Before the dandies came back to power, there was a time when I would wake up in the morning with a burning desire to show up for work at the agency. There was a time when we produced campaigns without computers, planners, and testimonials. There was a time when every ad had to contain a part of us. There was a time when, every day of every month, we worked by day for the clients who could pay and by night for the others. At that time, the dandies had had to sit down and watch. At that time, many of the works gathered in this book were born.

        Maria Palombi Edition 05/2024
        Of Lost Causes Stefano
The Palombi & Palombi law firm had been patiently waiting for me since the day I was born.
As a child, on Sundays, I used to enjoy entering the empty offices, opening the closets of stationary supplies, and filling my pockets with pens and strange erasers before the smiling eyes of grandfather Vincenzo.
Later, when I was already a bit older, on my way back from some endless soccer game, I would drop by without forewarning and, in the waiting room, find litigious couples waiting for my father and funny moustached smugglers waiting for grandfather.
I tried studying law, but never managed to keep my concentration §for an entire lesson.
Everything was horrible. Classrooms, students, professors, books, and exams.
I took ten of them, I think, but at least six had been only so as to avoid doing military service. And yet I would have liked being a lawyer, and yet I did become one in a sense.
In the course of my first year as a creative director, in fact, in addition to learning all about the many different shades
          2
of human frustration, I was dumbstruck by a beautiful and unexpected truth: I would be able to use everything that I was learning about the ins and outs of communication, not only to advertise goods and services, but also to speak, to challenge, to defend. This is what I wanted to become, a copywriter of lost causes.

SUBSCRIBE TO AVVENIMENTI, THE WEEKLY THAT BOASTS ZERO ATTEMPTS AT IMITATION.
Is it possible that everyone tries to imitate the Settimana Enigmistica (Italian puzzle-solving weekly, NOW(), NOW()), whereas no one tries to imitate us? Possible. Is it possible that someone can resist the discounts and prizes for new subscribers? Impossible.

WHY SUBSCRIBE TO AVVENIMENTI? GOOD QUESTION.
Let’s see: because Avvenimenti is strong with the strong, gentle with the weak and generous with subscribers (as the long list of presents described in the postcard alongside here proves). Accurate, concise and thorough: good answer.

IF YOU SUBSCRIBE WE’LL SUBSCRIBE (ALLOT) YOU. What? A cool one-thousand two-hundred Lire per issue. What we won’t allot you instead, if you subscribe, is the pleasure of choosing, from the list alongside here, one among the many presents. Many greetings.
