CONSERVATION EASEMENT The conservation easement is held by The Nature Conservancy and protects the ecological and open space values on 540 acres. The property provides significant natural habitat for plants and wildlife, specifically the willows along Hinman and Coulton Creeks and nesting locations for sandhill cranes.
The easement expressly allows guest ranch, agricultural and ranching operations. It also allows for:
Limited additional building in “building envelope 1” (main guest ranch improvements location); Construction of a new rustic Homestead cabin or relocation of existing Homestead cabin; Enlargement or remodel of home on 20 acres (manager’s home); and Construction of one additional single family home in “building envelope 2” (north of managers home)
The following parcels are not included in the Conservation Easement:
35 acres with owners house (8,000 sf) and barn 13 acre property along Hinman Creek (consisting of one 6 acre parcel and one 7 acre parcel)

STAFF PROFILES Ben Martin-General Manager Ben Martin has over 15 years of experience in the guest ranch industry. Ben has been at Vista Verde since 2006. He has a degree in Marketing from Messiah College and a master’s degree in youth and family studies from Denver Seminary. In addition to professional level soccer-playing ability, Ben is a talented musician, singer and square-dance caller. Ben’s easy manner coupled with his strong leadership skills have helped elevate Vista Verde to the prestigious AAA 4 diamond rating. Ben’s strengths include a natural ability to connect with staff and guests, ranch management and stewardship skills, and leadership development. The emphasis he places on core values and being the caretaker of the culture at the Ranch. He leads by example and actively protects the health of the organization. Charlie Cammer-Director of Ranch Operations Charlie Cammer connects the organizational dots at the ranch. He handles he ranch operations and expenses, overseeing the ranch budget. Charlie’s education in hospitality management combined with his 15 years at Vista Verde Ranch have proven invaluable to the Ranch. He relates well to guests who look forward to seeing him each time they return and he mentors the young adults on staff, listening to them and motivating them. Charlie has the ability to make sure staff is in place where needed, when needed. He has excellent interpersonal skills as well as ranch management and stewardship skills. Stephanie Wilson-Director of Guest Operations Stephanie Wilson collaborates with the ranch’s leadership team, always employing the latest technology to effectively market the ranch to potential guests. Her degree is from U.C. Davis in Equine Science and over her 16 years in the guest ranch industry, she had gravitated toward the marketing arena. Stephanie attends conferences and tirelessly strives to keep the ranch ahead of the marketing curve. Stephanie also handles everything guest related—from landing to leaving, she makes sure the guest experience is exactly what the reviews on Trip Advisor claim.
Bill Backer-Property Manager Bill Backer knows every square inch of Vista Verde Guest Ranch. During his 22 years living on the ranch, he has seen and fixed a wide variety of maintenance items on the ranch. He oversees the water and septic system and is certified by the State of Colorado to manage the water system. Bill’s wealth of knowledge and ownership of his role as caretaker of the entire ranch and its facilities keep the ranch running smoothly. In addition to being a master furniture maker, Bill helps oversee the housekeeping and ensures consistency. Bill sets an excellent example for the younger staff members; he is asked to do so many different things, he does them well and they watch him.
Steve and Kelli King-Adventure Center Managers In their 13 years at Vista Verde Ranch, Steve and Kelli King have brought an exceptional level of professionalism to the guest adventure experience. They have put together a very well trained team with advanced medical training, guiding and knowledge of the natural surroundings. Both having degrees from Kent State, they are great educators for staff and guests alike and they take a holistic approach to guiding. Steve and Kelli help the guests understand their abilities and capabilities; they are very conscientious about safety. Like so many of the other long-time Vista Verde Ranch managers, guests look forward to returning and knowing the staff remains consistent.
Cholly McGlynn-Executive Chef Cholly McGlynn started as a sous chef 16 years ago at Vista Verde Ranch. Educated as an engineer at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Cholly provides the outstanding cuisine guests enjoy during their week at the ranch. An accomplished sommelier, Cholly also leads the wine tasting seminars offered at the ranch. The Vista Verde Ranch culture trickles down to the kitchen and is palpable among the staff. Under Cholly’s supervision, they treat each other well and enjoy being a part of the kitchen staff. Cholly brings out the best in his staff. He is humble and equips his staff with the skills and talent to consistently deliver the quality cuisine guests appreciate.
Brandon Martin –Fly Fishing and Ranch Hand Manager Brandon Martin oversees the ranch hands and the fly fishing guides. He is a Green Beret and has served multiple tours in Iraq. His military experience taught him about leadership, accountability, teamwork when it really counts.
Nathan Margason-Head Wrangler Nathan is the head wrangler at Vista Verde Ranch. Nathan oversees a herd of nearly 100 horses and handles the guest operations side of the horses, rides, and clinics with ease and talent. He has been at the ranch for five years.
Mandy Griffey-Head Trainer Mandy is Vista Verde Ranch’s head trainer. With a degree in equine science from William Woods University and apprenticeships under a notable horse trainer, she successfully oversees the breeding and training program. This is a snapshot of the outstanding staff at Vista Verde Ranch. Every one of the VVR employees exhibits great personal character. They take pride in doing positive things. They understand from Ben Martin and the upper management that there is a means to the end-and the ranch is the means. The ranch is the means to seeing positive life changes for the guests. They are empowered to take good care of those means.
