SRP Superstars: Year 7 on the Podium!
Three of our Year 7 pupils have set an incredible standard so far this academic year by securing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place across the whole of Key Stage 3 for their Sparx Reader Points. Well done to Umar (7H1), who has read for 155 hours since September; Josiah (7H1) who has read for 90 hours, and Eyueal (7A1) who has read for 54 hours. Their dedication, consistency and enthusiasm for reading have truly paid off, and they should be extremely proud of this fantastic achievement.
It is brilliant to see such a strong reading culture being led by our youngest pupils, showing that hard work and reading for pleasure really do make a difference. We look forward to seeing even more pupils rise to the challenge as the competition continues!
Forming great readers
This term, we launched the Sparx Reader Form Competition, bringing a buzz of friendly competition to form time reading. Form classes are going head-tohead to earn the most Sparx Reader Points (SRP) by the end of the term, with reading effort and consistency really making the difference. The topperforming form in Years 7, 8 and 9 will each receive a class prize at the end of term. It is an exciting way to motivate readers, build teamwork, and celebrate the fantastic achievements our pupils continue to make with Sparx Reader.
Two is better than one!
Why not team up with a friend this half term and double your reading power? Borrow the same book, read it together over the half term, and become your own mini book club. Once you’ve finished, write a joint review and submit it to the library for a chance to win a special prize. Share the love of reading and discover a great book together!
Pupil Book Reviews
Maggie Blue and the Dark World
By Luke Chandler, Year 7
"The book was quite interesting. In some parts it was rather unsettling but still manageable to read. I totally would recommend this to someone who likes scary or an adventure book! If I could read this again I would!"
What is your favourite book and why?
My favourite book is ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ by Diana Wynne Jones. I love it because it’s whimsical, clever, and comforting, with characters that feel complex and realistic despite the fantasy setting. It also balances humour and magic in a way that makes it a comforting story to read (and even re-read!)
When and where do you most like to read?
I most enjoy reading in the evenings, especially when things are quiet. I prefer somewhere comfortable and quiet like a cosy corner of the sofa helps me fully immerse myself into the story without distractions.
Why do you enjoy reading?
It lets me escape into other worlds and perspectives It’s both relaxing and exciting, and it helps me unwind while also experiencing an escape to worlds where anything can be possible
