We are aware that injuries can happen or you may get in to trouble. If you need assistance, please contact Event Control on 07780 330 681 or if you know where you are, try to get to the next marshal point as indicated on your map if it is safe to do so.

If you are walking the Gold route, we need to ensure that you arrive at the cut off point at mile 9 by 11:00am. If not, you will be asked to walk the Silver route for your safety.

If you would like to switch routes on the day, for example you registered for the Gold route but would now prefer to do the Silver route, this is not a problem. Please alert our Event Staff at the closest water point or checkpoint to your change.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

The Howe, checkpoint two: Soup and rolls, fruit, snacks, water, tea and coffee.

For anyone who picks up a minor injury or niggle, there will be physiotherapists located on the route at checkpoint two, The Howe. Anyone with an injury should check in with our medical team as soon as you can.

All other checkpoints and water stops: Fruit, snacks, hydration drinks and water.

HINTS AND TIPS Whether it’s blinding heat or pouring rain, you need to be prepared for every eventuality while you are out in the Pentland Hills.

Here are a few tips to keep you comfortable throughout your day: •D rink often to stay hydrated. You don’t need to carry too much water with you as you can refill at all our stops on the way.

•R emember to use sun cream and a hat to prevent sunburn, even on cloudy or cold days – you can still burn!

•D on’t forget to fully charge your mobile phone – a phone can be your saviour in case of emergency.

•B ring two extra pairs of socks - changing socks in the middle of your walk is the best way to keep your feet comfortable and dry.

Trust us – you feel like you have new feet on!

• Try using a lubricant like Vaseline to avoid chaffing on those sensitive areas – between the legs and on the chests for the gentlemen!

• If you are using energy supplements like drinks or gels then please make sure you have tried these before.

They are great for giving you a boost of energy however, they can make you feel a bit queasy if you haven’t tried them before.

• Make sure your rucksack is waterproof – or has a dry bag inside.

You don’t want the contents of your rucksack getting wet should it rain!

•L ayers! Break your clothing into three layers - base layer, middle layer and outer layer. Your base layer should be breathable to keep you dry from sweat and to provide heat from the cold.

Your middle layer should be comfortable and warm and easily removed. Your outer layer should be water and wind proof with a hood for at the top of those windy peaks!

•D on’t wear anything on the day which you haven’t already worn on a training walk – those new trousers might look nice but you may find them uncomfortable on the day!

•A nd finally…go at your own pace – stick to a pace that you are comfortable with and don’t push yourself too quickly!

AFTER YOUR CHALLENGE Hip, hip hurrah! You made it to the finish line! Now sit down, relax and bask in the glory of your success. Celebrate your achievement with great music, delicious food and a well-deserved drink!

Hog roast and all the trimmings, and for the veggies a falafel burger with side salads aplenty.

Strike a pose! Head to our photo board to get your finish line photo with your medal! All the photographs from The Push will be published on our website shortly after the event.

We have special prizes for the best fundraising team, the best fundraising individual, the best team name and the best team photo. We will be announcing these after the event so keep your eyes peeled!

ENTERTAINMENT We have a great MC and DJ team playing throughout the day.

If you have a favourite celebration song, ask them to play it for you!

MASSAGE TENT Time to relax and enjoy a massage from Athlete’s Angels. They will be providing physiotherapy and massage that will help your weary muscles after a long day out on the Pentland Hills.

VISITORS Encourage your friends and family to come and cheer you on as you cross the finishing line. There is plenty of entertainment to keep children and adults entertained so why not rope in a support team!

BAR Enjoy a well-deserved cold one at our cash bar.

St Columba’s Hospice provides care and support to people from across Edinburgh and the Lothians. We provide specialist services at the Hospice in our inpatient unit, outpatient unit, day services and our community specialist nurses take our care to people in their own homes. We work with patients and families to make the time patients and families have together precious and meaningful.

Our care is provided free of charge and without the support of you, we would not be able to raise the £8 million we need every year to keep our doors open to help our local community.

The Push is an amazing event that really challenges people to dig deep and quite literally push through the mental and physical challenges of walking the 14, 20 or 26.2 miles. What makes the event even greater though, is that it brings people together and fosters an incredible teamwork ethic that is felt in the lead up to the event and throughout the course of the day itself. Everything about The Push involves teamwork, whether that be the volunteers who have taken time out of their own weekend to ensure that the event runs without any glitches, the team at St Columba’s Hospice who continue to motivate and show their support for everyone who takes part and, of course, the incredible teams of people who partake in this mammoth physical challenge. It’s really inspiring to see so many people coming together to push their own boundaries and challenge themselves, whilst at the same time showing their support for St Columba’s Hospice.

Without events like The Push, St Columba’s Hospice wouldn’t be able to achieve the £8m per year that it needs to help and care for its patients or continue the amazing work that they do. I, and everyone at Teviot, would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person who is taking part and showing support for this wonderful event. Without all of you guys and girls it just wouldn’t be possible.

Not only do we take part in the event but we also work closely with St Columba’s Hospice to continually develop the event branding every year as well.
