TheStarwindcovenwereenjoyingtheirusualafternoonteawhensuddenlythirteen-yearold Melody, who had just discovered her powers from a great aunt who she barely knew, burst through the doors of the Great Hall of the old manor house where they lived and whereshewasgettingmagiclessons.
“WherearetheChristmasdecorations?”sheasked.
“Wedon’tnormallybotherwiththemasweneverhaveanyonewhoenjoysthem,”replied Melody’sgreatauntCelia
“Well I’m going to change that. Everyone up!” Melody said determinedly. All of the coven stoodupandconjuredupavastamountofChristmasdecorationsand, withtheirpowers, they started to put them up. The fairy lights floated up as if by themselves around the room One of the other witches was putting garlands on the beams of the ceiling Melody andoneofthewizardsweredecoratingthetreesoneithersideoftheroom-onehadred andgolddecorationsandtheotherhadsilverandgreen Thesilverandgreentreelooked a little peculiar because Melody hadn’t quite managed to float the decorations high enough to be in the right place so needed help from the wizard to fix it Another witch moved her finger in a particular way and everything became twice as glittery and shimmery Once they were done with the inside of the Great Hall, they all went outside to start on the exterior of the house. The witches and wizards conjured up more lights and decorations than is even imaginable and started to put them up Melody’s aunt put a garland over the entrance of the house and then clicked her fingers to make the candles lightthemselves.Melodyhoveredthelight-upsnowmenintopositioninfrontofthehouse and one of the wizards put lights round the windows at the top of the house. “See!Itlooksmuchbetterlikethis!”saidMelody.Thecovenallnoddedinagreementwith her. They all felt much happier now they had decorated. Most of the coven had forgotten what it was like to properly celebrate Christmas, as they had been forced into hiding and had to remain as inconspicuous as possible up until recently. But this year was different. This year they would embrace their powers and teach Melody to embrace hers too, all whilstembracingChristmas.

Dearest Gentle Reader,
The merriest of Christmases to you all I have heard that her majesty Queen Charlotte is hosting a Christmas ball, to which all of the Ton are invited I know that it is unusual to be in London during the Christmas season, as most of you have retreated to your homes in the country, but I have heard that there will be guests of the highest rank in attendance It will be an excellent opportunity for the mamas to introduce their daughters to suitors if they were not successful in securing a match during the marriage season I expect to see exquisite gowns for the occasion in reds and greens… and even white I hope that you all enjoy yourselves and don't let the terror of being in front of the Queen put you off
Yours truly,
Lady Whisteldown
