LET TER F R O M T HE D IRECTO R “Whatever comes, cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.” A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett is one of the first novels I ever read, and I immediately loved it. I grew up watching the Shirley Temple version over and over and later had the chance to be in a production while in middle school. I wanted to be like Sara....able to choose kindness, patience, and consideration for others like a princess in the face of loss, misfortune, and mistreatment. To have an inner beauty and ability to find joy and meaning even in hardship. And who could help loving sweet, loyal Becky? And Melchizedek the rat, whom Sara befriends, was another favorite character, although sadly unable to be present in our version today. Each of the characters in this story has their own struggles, and each of the students does a wonderful job bringing these personalities to life. I welcome back the now eighth graders as well as all of our new 7th graders and hope this is just one of their many productions at SCA. A special thank you to all our wonderful volunteers- George, Jacob, John, and Libby for the beautiful set, our talented SCA high school crew, and all the parents for their help and dedication. Thank you especially to Sister Josemaria and Diane Meier for all your help and support. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do and that we all might leave today’s performance a little warmer, kinder, and sweeter to each other. Totus Tuus. Sincerely,
Crystal Kurek
