MATHEMATICS Do you like problem solving and critical thinking? Are you interested in working with numbers and data and want to turn it into a rewarding career? Can you see yourself simplifying and communicating complex information? A degree in mathematics can open the door to a variety of careers in science, government, and business, to name a few. As a St. Kate’s math major, you’ll acquire a broad knowledge base in theoretical mathematics, applied statistics, and computer science, with an emphasis on developing critical thinking and communication skills in a collaborative environment. You’ll build writing and presentation skills in seminar classes that feature student-led discussions, and have the opportunity to work with faculty members on research and projects in both mathematics and computer science.

YOU WILL LEARN TO: • Understand critical math concepts and how to apply them to solve complex problems • Apply quantitative, logical, computational, and analytical thinking • Present technical information and logical argument in a clear and concise way

CAREER PATHS TO EXPLORE STATISTICIAN Analyze and interpret data to help businesses with important decisions, problems, and logistical scenarios DATA SCIENTIST Utilize computer science, statistics, and mathematics to collect and organize data from many different data sources, translate results into actionable plans OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST Use mathematics and logic to help organizations make informed decisions and solve problems ACTUARY Work in industries such as insurance to assess the risk of potential events and help businesses and clients develop policies that minimize the cost of that risk ENGINEER* Use applied math and science to develop, build, and test new solutions in many different industries *Requires advanced degree
