APPLYING FOR AID Financial aid comes in three forms: grants and scholarships, which don’t have to be repaid; loans, which must be repaid; and work study.
STEP 1 Apply for admission to St. Catherine University. STEP 2 Complete your FAFSA online as soon as possible at studentaid.gov using your family’s financial information. Be sure to include St. Kate’s code (002342) on the list of schools receiving your FAFSA information.
STEP 3 Once you’re accepted to St. Kate’s and your FAFSA report is reviewed, you will receive a financial aid offer listing the types and amounts of assistance you are eligible to receive during the academic year. You are automatically considered for scholarships, grants, employment opportunities, and low-interest student loans when your financial aid package is prepared by one of our financial aid counselors. Financial aid packages will be sent out starting in early spring.
STEP 4 Y ou must resubmit your FAFSA annually by April 15 to be considered for need-based financial assistance throughout your college years.
OCTOBER–NOVEMBER • Gather your family’s financial paperwork in preparation for completing the FAFSA, which will ask for 2024 tax year income information. • Complete the FAFSA online at studentaid.gov. Include St. Kate’s code 002342. • Conduct an outside scholarship search. Visit stkate.edu/outsideaid for resources.
DECEMBER–FEBRUARY • If your FAFSA is complete, watch for your financial aid offer letter to arrive in the mail. Offers will be mailed to admitted students on a rolling basis. • Submit any requested documentation to complete your financial aid application.
MARCH–APRIL • Schedule an individual appointment with a counselor to talk through financial aid and get your questions answered. • For priority consideration, submit your FAFSA by April 15. • Call your admission counselor to go over your financial aid offer and complete a Cost Estimation Worksheet. • Submit your completed student employment application by the posted deadline.
MAY–JUNE • Submit your $200 deposit to secure your spot at St. Kate’s. May 1 is the national college decision deadline. • Attend our New Student Registration program to enroll in fall semester courses.
JULY–AUGUST • Notify our financial aid office of outside scholarships received. • Respond to any request for additional information and complete any paperwork sent to you to finalize your financial aid offers. • Apply for student and/or parent loans. • Select payment option and/or sign up for payment plan.
There are two kinds of scholarships: those awarded by St. Catherine University and those from outside sources. Our merit scholarship program is based on your potential, talents, achievements, and contributions. For priority consideration, apply for admission by February 15. St. Kate’s scholarship amounts are not affected by outside scholarships.

Our most prestigious scholarship program based on outstanding academic performance, extraordinary artistic or musical talent, or excellence in extracurricular accomplishments. Each year, 25 students are selected as Sister Scholar finalists. One student is chosen as the Sister Scholar and receives full tuition and fees for four years. All Sister Scholar finalists will be eligible for an additional scholarship.

What is the FAFSA? To apply for student financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. File as soon as possible during your senior year of high school. St. Catherine University FAFSA code is 002342.
How can I finance my education if my family doesn’t qualify for need-based aid? In addition to merit scholarships for which you may qualify, students can help meet college costs through a federal student or parent loan program or a job on or off campus.
How is financial need determined?
What job opportunities are available to me?
The Student Aid Index (SAI) is used to determine a student’s eligibility for aid. The SAI is parental contribution plus student contribution. Expected parental contribution is based on income, assets, and family size. Student contribution is derived from income, savings, and other assets. If your SAI is less than your total cost of attendance, you are considered to have financial need. St. Kate’s will meet as much of this need as possible through a combination of St. Kate’s scholarships and grants; state, federal, and private grants; student loans; student employment (workstudy); and low-interest student loans.
Students offered work-study may use St. Kate’s Priority Job Placement program or apply for jobs in their first year via KatieCareer by Handshake.
How is financial aid offered? A financial aid offer includes grants and/or scholarships, student loans, and on-campus work for students who qualify, and it is prepared by one of our financial aid counselors. A student is not required to accept a job or loan to receive a scholarship or grant.
What will my financial aid package look like in subsequent years? Merit scholarships are renewable, provided you stay enrolled full time and make satisfactory academic progress toward your degree. You must reapply for need-based financial aid each year. Assuming your family’s financial circumstances remain consistent from year to year, you can expect a similar level of aid for each of your undergraduate years, subject to federal and state regulation and appropriation. You must also meet application deadlines and maintain satisfactory academic progress as outlined in the financial aid policy section of the St. Kate’s catalog.

Student employment You can help with college expenses by working part-time on campus or in the community. Students who work just 7 hours a week each semester can earn $3,000 or more per year. Open positions are posted on KatieCareer, our online job source. You’ll be paid at a rate higher than the federal minimum wage, and make valuable connections with other students, faculty, and staff.
