The St Catherine’s School Foundation was established by St Catherine’s Council in 1996 with Sir Zelman Cowen, AK, GCMG, GCVO, QC as its founding President. Our role is to inclusively encourage and recognise financial support for our School, and our girls, by our wider community, including current and past parents, alumnae, current and past staff.

The St Catherine’s School Foundation is administered by the Foundation Board, a Standing Committee of the School Council, represented by current and past parents and alumnae.

The Foundation Board strategically develops philanthropic programs for St Catherine’s with the students at the centre of all its endeavours. Given that income from fees alone cannot provide the financial basis for our future development, St Catherine’s relies on the generous support from donors to deliver the School’s educational aims and bring its long-term vision and goals to fruition.

Every generation of students benefit from the facilities and resources provided by the previous. By working and giving together we can ensure our girls have the best possible facilities and programs for the enrichment of our students.

Recognition The Foundation delivers a range of activities annually to promote, celebrate and recognise the philanthropy so generously provided by our members. This includes: ANNUAL SOCIAL EVENING

As the hallmark annual event, the Social Evening is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate Foundation members’ contributions as well as providing an occasion for community members to connect.

ANNUAL IMPACT OF GIVING REPORT

The Report outlines the tangible difference Foundation members are making for current and future students of St Catherine’s School. It includes a list of our donors and members, profiles of supporters, key projects and a snapshot of our giving results.

JEANIE HOOD SOCIETY

Our most generous and caring supporters are recognised as members of the Jeanie Hood Society, named in honour of our founding Principal. Jeanie Hood Society members are invited to an annual dinner with our School’s leaders as well as receiving greater levels of recognition and stewardship.

ANNUAL BENEFACTORS’ ASSEMBLY

The Assembly provides an opportunity for our Senior School girls to learn about the importance and impact of philanthropy with a presentation from School leaders and Foundation members.

MAJOR EVENTS

These events include opening new buildings or the announcement of a new scholarship.

Our Programs The Foundation oversees several programs supporting our women of the future. These include: CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS

To provide the best facilities for teaching and learning, regular renewal and redevelopment is essential. It is only through major philanthropic support from significant campaigns that St Catherine’s remains at the forefront of girls’ education, providing the resources and infrastructure necessary to facilitate contemporary learning.

ANNUAL GIVING

Our Annual Giving campaign provides all members of our community with an opportunity to support St Catherine’s vision of building the foundations for life-long, independent learning through cutting edge educational facilities and programs. A range of smaller, more immediate projects, are usually funded through Annual Giving.

BEQUESTS

Leaving a bequest in your Will is a wonderful, lasting impact for current and future generations of our School.

Bequestors become a member of The St Catherine’s Society, a community of like-minded people who recognise the impact of a St Catherine’s education.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships ensure talented students from a diverse range of backgrounds and locations are provided the opportunity of a St Catherine’s education.

SPORTING EQUIPMENT

Equipment such as rowing boats or diving blocks provide students with the resources to enjoy the thrill of competition while supporting a balance between academic and sporting development.

The Impact of Giving St Catherine’s is privileged to have the generous support of caring families and alumnae; all of whom should be justifiably proud of the impact of their giving on our School. In recent years, major philanthropic support has led to: EARLY LEARNING CENTRE AT CAMPBELL HOUSE: THE ILHAN FAMILY CENTRE

The redevelopment of our historic Campbell House to become The Ilhan Family Centre has provided beautifully designed learning and outdoor spaces to inspire our three and four year old boys and girls to wonder, question, discover, imagine and create.

MARIGOLD SOUTHEY SPORTS & AQUATIC CENTRE

The construction of state-of-the-art aquatic facilities has enabled students, and our wider School community, to enjoy Learn to Swim programs, Water Polo, Diving and Squad training. With the recent launch of the St Catherine’s Aquatic Club, our girls can prepare for national and state swimming competitions on campus.

SENIOR SCHOOL RENEWAL:

The Ruth Langley Research and Learning Centre and The Edna Holmes Centre for Science renewal completed in 2015, provides contemporary facilities for learning, discovery and Science, preparing our girls to make their mark on the world.

The Mary Davis Centre, at the heart of our campus, provides a social hub for our students, parents and alumnae.

MERCANTILE ROWING CLUB

The partnership established with the Mercantile Rowing Club on the Yarra River has not just provided first-class training facilities, it has produced outstanding results, including success at the National Championships in 2016 and, most importantly, high levels of participation by our Senior girls.

JUNIOR SCHOOL – BARBRECK

The redevelopment of our Junior School will provide the facilities essential for our next generation of learners. The new Junior School will include vibrant flexible spaces responsive to the interests and abilities of each girl, including new spaces to build science and language skills necessary for the 21st Century.
