In our school, we use different assessment strategies to inform us of where the children are in their learning and what they need to move forward.

Assessment is done WITH children and not TO them.

We use continuous assessment to make a judgement about a child’s learning and what they need.

We also use summative assessment in conjunction with continuous assessment to help us make a judgement of the child’s level in reading and maths.

We track the children at 3 points in the year to check for progress. [In Nursery we record progress using a computer programme called isams]

The best state for learning is ‘relaxed alertness’.

Children who are stressed can’t learn.

Role play in the Home Corner and play with construction sets.

Promoting a Positive Attitude If the children have a positive attitude then they can they become highly motivated and ready for challenge.

We are constantly looking at offering a creative curriculum that makes learning fun!

Practising motor skills during outdoor play.

We gather information in many ways to inform us about a child’s learning Observing pupils – this includes:  listening to how they describe their work and their reasoning;  questioning, using open questions, phrased to invite pupils to explore their ideas and reasoning;  setting tasks in a way which requires pupils to use certain skills or apply ideas;  asking pupils to communicate their thinking through drawings, artefacts, actions, role play, concept mapping, as well as writing;  discussing words and how they are being used

Use effective questioning to move learning forward We ask open questions to encourage thinking skills Questions are differentiated Children’s answers inform our assessment and we may change the lesson or go on a different pathway Children need to be ready and alert. We use a range of strategies to encourage this: • Talk partners We give children time to answer We encourage children to ask questions

WHAT DOES A CLASS REPRESENTATIVE DO? • Liaise with the class teacher to organise a list of volunteers according to the class teachers’ needs (trips, activities etc.)

• Help get parents together and to create a positive, supportive spirit for all the class community • Support the PTSA for school events (social and fund-raising) • There can be more than 1 class representative per class
