— Hannah Olson, Class of 2023 College for Women Commencement Speaker

From the President

Nature and nurture. Faith and reason. Idealism and pragmatism. It’s easy to talk about all of these as if they cannot exist together, when our real, lived experience of these pairs is much more nuanced. In short, they are false dichotomies.

At St. Catherine University, the supposed dichotomy between the liberal arts and careers is one that comes up not infrequently, and it’s a question we’re continually discussing, exploring, and responding to at St. Kate’s and in the academic world.

We know, thanks to you — our partners and donors — and thanks to the enduring vision of our founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, that the intersection of liberal arts and professions is key to our students’ success. Thanks to your investment in LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence , collaborative research opportunities, upgraded facilities, financial support, and so much more, Katies graduate with practicable skills embedded in critical inquiry and social justice teaching.

The fruits of this cross-pollination between the liberal arts and careers are everywhere we look at St. Kate’s. Students in our fashion design and merchandising program enjoy creative and realworld opportunities like Katwalk to prepare for careers in the field, and they do it all with sustainable practices integrated into every class. Community members University-wide dive into

the Integrated Learning Series, which ties academic learning to the world in which we live and work, through thematic programming like the 2021–23 series on Indigenous Thought Leadership. Each year, faculty members from the School of Business produce the Minnesota Census of Women in Corporate Leadership (stkate.edu/census), placing the local professional community under the microscope to increase accountability and support for women.

Together, our donors and students prove out the essential vitality of pairing liberal arts and careers every day. Your investment in St. Kate’s current students enables continued generations of future leaders, supported by your generosity in these most crucial areas of growth for the University: the success of our students (page 8), innovation and development of our faculty (page 10), renovation of Mendel and Our Lady of Victory Chapel (page 12), and the expansion of financial aid through the Katie Fund (page 16). Through the campaign, we committed to meet the needs of today by investing in each of these areas, all of which support our goal of helping students unlock their full potential and preparing the women leaders our world needs. We are confident that, with the support of our community, the direction of our campaign, and leadership rooted in liberal arts and professional skills, we can help our students stake their claim.

Thanks to You, We Are Reaching the Next Level of Excellence

Let me begin with a humble and heartfelt “thank you.” What you have chosen to give back to St. Catherine University is powerful, meaningful, and thus beautiful.

From the steady progress toward our record-setting goal, to the unmistakable signs of construction fencing and scaffolding, to the palpable excitement among our students and faculty who embark on academic and professional journeys that before seemed unattainable, your support has been vital to every step forward.

Gifts of all sizes have made it possible to fund more student needs and educational opportunities. Funding and community partnerships have enabled our faculty to create new learning models. Our beloved campus landmarks can endure another hundred years to serve students, alumni, and community partners.

This comprehensive campaign embodies more than just a goal to achieve. Our Next Level of Excellence serves as the point from which we continue St. Kate’s mission, venturing forth to chart a bright and beautiful future the likes of which our founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet could only dream. Out of all the gifts this campaign has brought to St. Kate’s, I think these new heights toward their vision are the most precious of all.

The journey is nearly complete; if you or someone you know is waiting for the right time to join in and celebrate our success together, that time is now. You will read in the following pages how our community members connect to their own St. Kate’s experiences, and how they have translated those experiences into gifts to share with future Katies.

Thanks to you and your generous support, our collective mindset here has most definitely shifted from the anticipatory “what could be” to an energetic “what is now.” On behalf of our entire St. Kate’s community, thank you!

Our Next Level of Excellence serves as the point from which we continue St. Kate’s mission, venturing forth to chart a bright and beautiful future the likes of which our founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet could only dream.”

STUDENTS WROTE THANK YOU CARDS TO DONORS ON GIVE TO ST. KATE’S DAY 2022.

Finishing Strong: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence

Just months away from the campaign’s conclusion, our donors’ generosity is already making an impact.

LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence is the largest campaign in the history of St. Catherine University… and the finish line is almost here!

When President Roloff began her tenure in 2016, among her highest priorities was to work with the senior leadership team to complete a comprehensive review of the entire University — our mission and vision, financial standing, graduation and enrollment numbers, and the rest of the wide array of important resources that will carry our community into the future. The result of these meetings was the rigorous and comprehensive Setting Our Sails strategic plan and the framework of LEAD & INFLUENCE, a campaign designed to support, expand, and enrich the most critical elements of the University: Our Students (page 8), Our Faculty (page 10), Our Place (page 12), and the Katie Fund (page 16).

With a $130 million final goal, this seminal campaign would transcend previous efforts to advance the University. We are pleased to announce that we are now at 96% of that goal. Thanks to the incredible generosity of over 15,000 donors, we have raised over $125 million. These contributions have been making deep impacts already, and now we are thrilled to begin rolling out our preservation and renovation projects here on campus.

Restoration has already begun on Our Lady of Victory Chapel, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and, most importantly, treasured by our community (page 12). The Chapel was closed to the public this winter with the assembly of a temporary wall to cordon off the work area, and the historic windows are currently being refitted with specially-made

reproductions. All construction work will be complete in time for the Chapel’s centennial celebration in October 2024. (Stay tuned for details!)

Renovations are also underway at Mendel, with fencing installed and construction beginning in May (page 14). Mendel will remain partially open throughout the process, to continue serving our STEM students and faculty. We anticipate that all work will be concluded by December 2024.

Campaign Progress

We have surpassed the $125 million milestone! Progress continues in our effort to raise $130 million to achieve the Next Level of Excellence

Thank you, donors!

We’re receiving strong support for all four of the Next Level of Excellence campaign priorities, which you can learn more about by visiting stkate.edu/campaign.

LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence progress is current as of 05/31/2023.

Endowed scholarship pays tribute to a great intellect and mentor

An endowed scholarship fund has been established in honor of the late Mary (Kevin) O’Hara, CSJ, ’45, PhD. A beloved philosophy professor, Sister Mary graced the St. Catherine campus with a towering intellect, imposing physical stature, and dedication to mentorship that helped advance the careers of many academics and professionals.

The $1.5 million fund was created as a bequest of the estate of Agnes Hyungnam Moon, PhD. The Sister Mary L. O’Hara Scholarship Fund will provide tuition support for students with financial need. The bequest will also create a second endowed scholarship, the Anna Jayoung Chung Endowed Scholarship Fund, named after Moon’s mother, who was a woman considered to be ahead of her time in early 20th century Korea for her commitment to women’s education. Both funds will be awarded with a preference for students studying philosophy.

The two scholarships align with the mission of St. Catherine University completely, says President ReBecca Koenig Roloff ’76. “Our mission, educating women to lead and influence, attracts students who are leaders, grounded in reality and powered by values. The generosity of Dr. Moon’s bequest is a grand statement of faith in our students.” The funds honor Sr. Mary’s history of mentorship by preparing women to be changemakers with a grounding in the liberal arts.

Though not a St. Kate’s alumna, Moon herself flourished thanks to the support of Sr. Mary, whom she met at a professional conference. The two became friends, and eventually Sr. Mary grew to be a personal and professional mentor to her.

When you were around her, you felt you were in the presence of a great intellect, but you also felt her kindness — and her interest in encouraging your ambitions.”

Anita Pampusch ’60, PhD, St. Catherine University president emerita and a former student of Sr. Mary’s, recalls that the professor made a strong impression on just about everyone she met. “Everyone recognized her as one of the most intelligent faculty members on campus,” says Pampusch. “She was a very good teacher and made philosophy a tremendously interesting subject.”

Other Katies shared this experience. Back in 1991, Mary Ann Healy Kren ’66, sociology major, told the campus magazine SCAN: “We almost all graduated with a philosophy minor. Sr. Kevin could teach philosophy to a rock!”

Pampusch says that though students and faculty were sometimes intimidated by Sr. Mary’s height and regal bearing, those who knew her well understood that at her core beat a true mentor’s heart.

Pampusch spent her young adult years as a CSJ, earning her undergraduate degree in math and chemistry. She’d always assumed her life’s work would be in teaching, but after taking Sr. Mary’s courses, she developed a deep love of philosophy. Sr. Mary recognized this love in Pampusch, and eventually convinced her fellow sisters to send her on to graduate school.

“She took me under her wing,” Pampusch recalls. Members of religious communities need approval to attend graduate school, she explained: “Sr. Mary stood up for me in that. She was my mentor. She pushed it with the powers-that-be in the order.”

Thanks to this advocacy, Pampusch went on to earn a PhD in philosophy, later becoming St. Kate’s academic dean — and then first lay president. She also served on local, regional, and national boards, and served in the prestigious position of president of the Bush Foundation.

Like Moon, Pampusch will always be grateful for Sr. Mary’s mentorship. Without her, she says, her life would have gone in a completely different direction. “When you were around her, you felt you were in the presence of a great intellect,” she says of Sr. Mary, “but you also felt her kindness — and her interest in encouraging your ambitions.”

The generosity of Moon, and donors like her, enables continued mentorship of students in their academic and professional paths to leadership, supported by the wellpaved tradition of Sr. Mary and countless other St. Kate’s professors.

Our Faculty

Expanding scholarship and interprofessional partnerships

Grant funds allow St. Catherine University faculty members to pursue exciting research projects, while providing our students with invaluable hands-on experience and opportunities for research and collaboration across disciplines. These grants augment student opportunities and resources that prepare them for success in their careers, including interprofessional education (IPE) in the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health Sciences. Through IPE, students gain exposure to other healthcare professions via state-of-the-art coursework, simulation activities, collaborative research, and hands-on opportunities, developing the skills to provide excellent, holistic patient care.

One such research project, made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Delta Dental Foundation, partners St. Kate’s with Ready, Set, Smile, an organization providing dental treatments and oral health education to children right inside their Twin Cities schools.

This IPE project began in 2019, with occupational therapy students building on the in-classroom work of Ready, Set, Smile to include outreach to the children’s families. The students designed educational materials promoting oral health and dental hygiene routines, and sent them home to families in packets that included toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and a two-minute toothbrushing timer.

The partnership may not seem like an obvious fit, as dental care is traditionally kept separate from the rest of healthcare.

“There’s this huge silo,” says associate professor Stephanie de Sam Lazaro, OTD, MA, OTR/L, the project’s principal investigator. “And part of the reason Ready, Set, Smile found St. Kate’s to be such a great partner is that we have so many different allied health disciplines,

and they are so passionate about breaking down that medical/dental divide.”

To that end, in the past few years, the Delta Dental funding has allowed the project to expand to include faculty and students in public health, nutrition, and social work. “I am always looking for experiential learning like this to link and reinforce the classroom experience,” says Kathy Thames, MS, RDN, assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics, who has incorporated the project into her curriculum.

The grant has also provided opportunities for students to be paid research assistants and receive stipends for travel. The three research assistants for this project are Hannah Bahma ’24, a nutrition and dietetics undergrad, and occupational therapy graduate students Jo Nguyen OTD’25 and Athena Yang MAOT’23. They are excited about the opportunities the project has opened up, including collaboration with Katies in other healthcare fields, direct interaction with children in their classrooms, and opportunities to publish their research and present at conferences.

Now that they have a full year of data, the research team is better able to assess how the project is going. This includes measuring how informed families are about oral health, as well as measuring rates of decay in the teeth of the children served. But the faculty are also measuring the component most essential to their work as educators: are their students increasing their knowledge about oral health, and will the knowledge gained be applicable in their future careers? So far, for the three research assistants, it’s a resounding “yes.”

“Being with Ready, Set, Smile has allowed me to diversify my skills,” Yang says. “[The project] has made me realize the impact occupational therapists have on addressing oral health in the community setting by implementing and promoting habits and routines into families’ lives to prevent oral disease.”

Our Place

Alumna’s gift honors enduring Chapel legacy and the power of reconnection

Donna Krzmarzick ’62, ’86 has returned to St. Catherine University season after season in her life. For her, as for so many others, one place that encapsulates this deep connection to St. Kate’s is Our Lady of Victory Chapel. Since its opening in 1924, it has endured as an iconic landmark, treasured gathering place, and “one of [Krzmarzick’s] favorite sites on campus.”

A two-time St. Kate’s graduate — with a 1962 associate degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing and a 1986 bachelor’s from the College of St. Catherine — Krzmarzick’s path to St. Kate’s began with her parents’ hopes for her education. “My mother was not allowed to pursue her dream of further education, but she became a strong advocate for all of her children to attend college,” says Krzmarzick. “St. Kate’s was my first choice because it was a Catholic women’s college with an excellent reputation.”

Unfortunately, her family was unable to afford the cost of tuition, so Krzmarzick enrolled in a three-year program at St. Mary’s School of Nursing (now a part of St. Catherine University). After graduation, she began her career in psychiatric nursing and eventually found herself pulled back to St. Kate’s, where she graduated from the weekend program in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

After a career at multiple hospitals in executive leadership, Krzmarzick retired in 2012 and began reflecting on the University that had supported her goals as a Catholic woman committed to selfempowerment, excellence, and service. She became an active alumna, attending her 50-year Reunion, volunteering, and making donations. Krzmarzick also established an endowed scholarship for nursing students in order to help secure more resources and support for St. Kate’s students experiencing barriers to education.

Krzmarzick says her most personal philanthropic tie to St. Kate’s, however, did not come until her 60-year Reunion celebration in 2022, where she attended a session about LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence and learned about the Chapel’s need for restoration to protect it into the future.

I am deeply touched by Donna’s story… That daily reminder of the passing of light and life from mother to daughter within the heart of the community, the Chapel, is the genuine claiming of ‘our space’ as a women’s Catholic institution.”
— Sharon Howell,

Krzmarzick was moved to contribute as a way to honor reconnecting with her daughter Ange, whom she placed for adoption as a baby. “I decided I wanted to purchase a window with my name and the renovation of a pew with her name,” says Krzmarzick. “The light from my window will shine upon her pew, which will be a symbol of God’s gift to both of us.”

“I am deeply touched by Donna’s story and the ways she continues to pay forward the experiences of her life into the present and future,” says Sharon Howell, CSJ, director of the Center for Spirituality and Social Justice. “To have that daily reminder of the passing of light and life from mother to daughter within the heart of the community, the Chapel, is the genuine claiming of ‘our space’ as a women’s Catholic institution.”

Krzmarzick’s gift, and others like it, goes toward preserving the beauty of the Chapel and ensuring that this cherished space endures for another 100 years. Restoration will be complete in fall 2024, in time to celebrate the Chapel Centennial!

“It has been a blessing to have the opportunity to give back,” says Krzmarzick. “I treasure my education and experience at St. Kate’s and never regret giving to the University, as it reinforces the importance of educating women to lead and influence.”

WHY OUR DONORS GIVE TO OUR PLACE

Our Place

Fostering pivotal opportunities for women in the sciences

LaVerne Johnson Raab ’56 still remembers the sound of Professor Emil Berger’s voice. His booming math lectures, she says, were the first thing you heard when you entered Mendel, the St. Catherine University math and sciences building and setting for the majority of her classes.

But Berger’s more far-reaching effect on Raab was his ability to teach concepts. “He knew if you understood something or didn’t,” she says. “He’d approach the same thing from an entirely different perspective, and then I always understood. That was his gift.” With the foundation provided by Berger and other St. Kate’s faculty, Raab joined the first wave of women to work in computer sciences in the 1950s, an era in which the field was just starting to boom and computers took up entire rooms.

Now, Raab supports future women leaders in STEM by investing in Mendel through LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence , so current students can benefit from renovated science spaces and updated equipment, and launch their own careers in the sciences.

Upon graduating with bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics and psychology, Raab was hired as a software engineer by UNIVAC, where she was one of only five women to 30 men at her company. She worked at UNIVAC for 30 years in this role, a career she loved and found fulfilling. Over time, she says, “I realized how important my degree from St. Kate’s was. … It formed my whole life. All of the advantages that I got out of my job were things that I learned at St. Kate’s.”

TODAY’S KATIES ARE ALREADY ROLE MODELS IN STEM

“Upgraded technology and access to resources empower students to overcome obstacles, pursue our scientific passions, and contribute meaningfully to our respective disciplines,” says Kadiatu Kaya ’24, a pre-med biology major. “By ensuring that these resources are accessible to all, regardless of their background, [donors] are investing in the future of scientific progress and promoting equity and inclusivity in these fields.”

Kaya is one of the student leaders of St. Kate’s weeklong summer camp for middle school girls, which just concluded its second year. Funded by a 3M grant to Division of Math and Sciences Chair Taviare Hawkins, PhD, the camp is just one of many efforts underway at St. Kate’s to promote girls’ interest in STEM.

“Studies show that girls as young as 12 are already drifting away from math and science,” says associate professor of biology Tami McDonald, PhD, who led the camp with Hawkins. “Meeting and interacting with science role models like Kadiatu is one powerful experience that extends the window of interest in science.”

Naturelle Vang ’25, another camp leader, is a Hmong first-generation college student who only discovered her interest in STEM at the end of high school. “By then it felt rushed for me,” Vang says. “I had to think deeply about whether to pursue my passion for STEM in college, instead of it blooming naturally through opportunities like these middle schoolers get with the summer camp. Knowing that I didn’t grow up with that, but I can be there for somebody else — that’s really meaningful.”

For Vang and Kaya, the summer camp is a way to practice skills they’ll use in their careers, and take steps toward fixing the “leaky pipeline” of girls and women in STEM. Supporters like Raab and 3M are integral partners in providing today’s Katies with renovated facilities, collaborative research opportunities, and access to faculty committed to supporting and encouraging women — particularly women of color — to follow their interests into careers in STEM.

“This support is essential,” says Kaya. “It fosters a more inclusive and representative scientific community that can tackle the complex challenges of the future and benefit from a full range of talents and perspectives.”

Katie Fund

A crucial source of support for tomorrow’s leaders

Both current students and alumni credit the Katie Fund for enabling them to pursue their passions at, and after, St. Catherine University. The University’s annual giving program is one of the four priorities of LEAD & INFLUENCE: The Campaign for the Next Level of Excellence . The fund plays a vital role in helping today’s students graduate with the skills they need to succeed, supporting resources like curricular and cocurricular programming, emergency needs, and accessibility services. It also helps power the University’s ever-important scholarships, which support today’s students across financial obstacles and allow them to claim their St. Kate’s education, as Gray Meger ’25 attests.

Meger’s education at St. Kate’s has been made possible thanks to scholarships, “a lot of which came from the Katie Fund,” they say, adding to donors that “thanks to you, I am able to pursue my dream of studying biology here at St. Kate’s!”

Meger is a student in the Antonian Honors program, which — like a range of other student opportunities across the University — is supported by gifts to the Katie Fund. Donor contributions provide Katies with classroom resources, technology improvements, student activities, and numerous support centers.

As both alumna and staff member, Christy Jepperson MBA’21, director of annual giving, knows from experience the impact of the annual fund. “As an alum of the Graduate College, I’ve seen firsthand the difference the Katie Fund makes in helping students complete their degrees,” she says. “And through my work in development

at the University, I’ve experienced the generosity of our alumni and donors as they invest in future leaders. It’s an honor to work with these community members who continue to power the Katie Fund and make St. Kate’s educations possible.”

Nearly $2 million a year goes to students thanks to generous Katie Fund supporters called to further the St. Catherine mission or honor their own St. Kate’s experience, like Lakshi Gunawardena ’22.

“I am most grateful for the people I met and the bonds I forged at St. Kate’s,” says Gunawardena. “I am also grateful for the skills that I gained as a student. I give back to the Katie Fund as a donor because it provided me with scholarships and resources. I try to pay it forward so current and future students can have the same opportunities.”

Two major days of giving encourage Katies like Meger and Gunawardena to pay their experiences forward through the Katie Fund:

• The University’s single largest day of giving, this year’s Give to St. Kate’s Day takes place on November 1 and closes out the campaign. In 2022, more than 800 donors gave in support of the Katie Fund.

• Each February, Give to Honor Her encourages donors to recognize, remember, and honor women who have made a difference in their lives and education. This year, donors gave in honor of nearly 700 inspiring women, whose names appeared in a tribute in the Pioneer Press and Star Tribune on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Volunteer Impact Report

Connecting Katie to Katie, wherever we are

The global pandemic has profoundly impacted the way we connect with each other — hands up if you had a virtual meeting this week?

In 2022–23, St. Catherine University launched a new way for Katies to give back to the community: PeopleGrove, St. Kate’s online mentoring platform. A digital platform embedded right into the St. Kate’s website, PeopleGrove is a space where our alumni community can help guide, inspire, and support our students and each other — no matter where they are.

“What I think is really unique about this program is that our students can reach out to Katies across the world,” says Megan Retka Tidd, director of alumni relations. “No matter the time zone, our alumni community can be available to support students exactly how and when they need it.”

Whether it’s preparing their first resume, practicing interview questions, or seeking job opportunities in a new location, Katies are able to tap into a 700+ strong community of peers, staff, alumni, and employers. On PeopleGrove, they can join specific career groups, seek out peers in their degree areas, and reach out to alumni based on their interests, career background, and/or location.

“Today, our students are walking into the job market seeking really practical skills and advice,” says May Thao-Schuck, EdD, vice president of career and professional development. “PeopleGrove provides them with a space to get prepared and supported, as they connect with alumni in their field, or in the organization they are preparing to interview for — in real time.”

It’s not just for current students. PeopleGrove also offers a way for our alumni community to support each other. Alumni can utilize the platform just like students, seeking advice or inspiration from peers in their field or beyond.

McKenzie Meyer ’22 found her connection with a 2011 graduate to be a valuable resource in her burgeoning professional life. Her mentor “provided a lot of advice and insight, as well as her own experience,” says Meyer. “I came away with lots of new knowledge about the PA [physician assistant] career and possible next steps in my own career journey.”

While more than 120 alumni have joined the mentoring community so far, Retka Tidd is keen on seeing more alumni join, in order to reach more students and connect Katies in one space.

“I would encourage all our Katies to join PeopleGrove,” she says. “Imagine how we could change the world if our students had 52,000+ alumni at their fingertips to lean on as they navigated their careers!”

I have really enjoyed connecting with current Katies through the PeopleGrove platform. I remember being in their shoes so well — how big the world seems, how many choices — and trying to find the best path through it all. I’m not that much older or wiser than they are, but I like feeling that I’m giving back to the Katie community just a little bit!”

From the Board Chair

Dear St. Catherine University Supporters and Donors,

I bring cordial greetings from the Board of Trustees and deep thanks for your generous gifts to our beloved St. Catherine University. We are honored by your confidence in our mission of educating and graduating women who will lead and influence wherever their life journeys take them. Your ongoing commitment enables St. Kate’s to continue to work toward our vision of being respected globally for educating women who transform the world. All of this happens only in collaboration with you, our supporters and donors.

In supporting this campaign, you join many remarkable people and organizations who have come together in partnership with St. Kate’s and our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, to meet the needs of the times. For example, in the 1800s after the French Revolution, Countess Felicité de la Rochejaquelein came to admire the work of the Sisters of St. Joseph in France. She wrote, “The East of France is alive with the activity of these Sisters.” She noted their work in hospitals, pharmacies, schools, and jails and their manual labor, sewing, and weaving. The countess used her persuasive personality, considerable wealth, and web of connections to enable six Sisters to come to the United States to take on whatever work was needed there. Like the Sisters themselves, the countess saw a need and moved forward passionately to respond to it.

Similarly, in the 1890s, when Sister Seraphine Ireland purchased the land for a college that would educate women in the arts and sciences, her action was met with derision by some who thought this type of education was beyond women’s capabilities. Undaunted, she believed the time was right for this new venture and was joined by Hugh Derham, a farmer from Rosemount, Minnesota, who contributed generously to the construction of the campus’ first building. Hugh Derham, and many others since him, believed in and supported Sr. Seraphine’s vision.

118 years after its founding, St. Catherine University proudly claims its history and celebrates the accomplishments of its graduates. Our 2023 graduates from the College for Women, College for Adults, and Graduate College are steeped in the liberal arts and comprehensively prepared in their chosen professions. They join over 52,000 alumni who are leading and influencing in the Twin Cities, throughout our state, across our nation, and around the globe. With confidence and integrity, these Katies are partnering with others to create a more inclusive, equitable, and just world — meeting the needs of the times wherever they are.

The Board of Trustees wholeheartedly congratulates the entire St. Catherine community for the excellent work being done to create new ways of responding to the multiple challenges facing higher education at this time. And we thank you, our supporters and donors, for believing in the transformative power of a St. Catherine University education and giving so generously of your time, talent, and treasure.

With deepest gratitude,

LEADING THE FIGHT FOR WOMEN’S EDUCATION

In March, St. Catherine University welcomed Pashtana Durrani and Roya Mahboob to The O’Shaughnessy for the latest event in the Women of Color Leadership Series. Part of Katie Leadership Impact, the series is supported through the Manitou Fund.

Durrani, founder of LEARN Afghanistan, and Mahboob, founder and CEO of Digital Citizen Fund, testified to the need for courageous leadership in the ongoing struggle for equal education. The activists have been recognized internationally by TIME and the BBC for their efforts to educate women and girls in Afghanistan.

“My studies have provided me and my fellow Katies with greater insight and knowledge in the ways our global community can learn and grow, and bring forth unity and equality for all,” said student Gabrielle Agbenyiga ’24, who introduced the event. “Roya Mahboob and Pashtana Durrani have taught me that there will always be hope for our future generations.”
