Title of Work : Unenlightened Synopsis : Georgia has been looking at Architecture while traveling around cities in Europe, which inspired her to look at alternative ways of painting architecture. Using the inspiration of Sunga Park she has created a dream-like painting of Bath Abbey. The unfinished, washed away sections are meant to leave your mind to imagine the rest of the scene. Georgia's work runs off the page in the same way that a memory slowly fades away only leaving small details behind. Next year Georgia is planning to do a foundation year at Weston College or Bristol School of Art to study Art and Design.
Synopsis : Ellie’s project is based upon natural forms, focusing on shells. She has concentrated on the magnified view of the shells, so she could capture every detail of its surface. Ellie has created large monotone biro studies, inspired by Japanese Artist Hiromi Miura. She has transferred her drawings using screen prints, collograph prints and paper cuts, combining them to create this installation. She has also stitched into some of her print to create the rough texture of the shell and to make the whole installation glisten.
Synopsis : Mary-Lou’s work captures decrepit Gothic architecture within each image. She has used newspaper clippings for texture and a layer of emulation that she has rolled on to A1 card. Her influence has come from Ian Murphy who creates architectural building and applies colours that are murky and sinister that gives the image an eerie feeling. She has depicted this into her own figure, but instead has created a statue with certain sections that provide the same feeling. She has used obscure isolated colours of ink to give the viewer a sense of obscurity when looking at the figure, to capture the true darkness of gothic architecture. Next year Mary-Lou intends to progress on to a foundation course in Weston for both, Art and Photography.

Synopsis : Molly’s project was based around natural forms and using different print methods to re-create them. Inspired by different artists she decided to look closely at Natalie Ratcliff’s work, who uses screen prints to create detailed motifs onto geometric shapes. In this piece, Molly used mono printing which shows the extra details of the leaves and also gave the piece much more tonal elements. After St Brendan’s Molly will be taking a gap year to then a BA (Hons) Graphic Communication Degree at Bath Spa University.
Synopsis: Katherine’s project focuses on Urban Landscape, presenting a final piece that shows an overlay of two photos using acrylic paint. She shows the variety of colours which makes the piece very abstract and bold. Furthermore, she uses white to highlight certain parts of the buildings to make them stand out, and the small risen parts give it a 3D-effect which creates a depth of field.

She has hung the cassettes within a frame and joined them together using fishing swivels, allowing the viewers to interact with the piece and twist them around as well as creating interesting shadows on the backdrop. Gabriella wanted to capture this temporary moment in time which is usually over too quickly to appreciate. Synopsis : Through the course of AS and A2 Fine Art, Matthew has found that Still Life is his strongest aspect of working. Looking at trainers for his Still Life, he was trying to capture through the mixing of paint and aspect of realism, and also capturing the surfaces of the objects through the rendering of paint. Matthew has also used screen-printing, while looking at Warhol’s artwork to take simple ideas and use them in his final piece which will be exhibited in Paintworks. Matthew hopes to get an apprenticeship in Accounting as this is the career he wants to be in.
Synopsis : Iman has created a sculpture based on organic forms after exploring in clear detail the shapes and patterns of vegetables. She took inspiration from several artists including Henrique Oliveira who creates abstract installations deriving from nature and his surroundings. Her sculpture has been developed after drawing several sections of a garlic, over-exaggerating the curls and layers of the shell whilst also making it look more abstract and focusing on the internal shapes and sections. Next year, Iman is planning on studying BA Architecture at Manchester University.

Synopsis : Maia’s work captures expression within the body. Initially focusing on how people react to their environment her work was bold and freedom in the paint marked movement and emotion. This slowly adapted to a more controlled approach as movement was revealed via the hair and clothes of her subject. A tension and struggle is portrayed through taught fabric and frantic hair emphasized by careful brush strokes. A moment of personal, emotional release, highlighting struggles that we may not outwardly show but feel. Maia wishes to pursue her creativity within a working environment and out. She is hoping to study BA Photography at the University of Gloucestershire.
Synopsis : Billy-Joe has been looking at hands throughout the year, developing his work from singular hands, to portraiture. He has included hands and faces in his work and used emotion from his model to show feelings through his pieces. He was interested in the way the hands created unique shapes and forms when the pushed against the face. Next year Billy-Joe plans to study BA (Hons) Computer Games Art at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.
Synopsis : Ella’s work captures the essence of a seascape through the observation of movement, sound and atmosphere. The inspiration for these pieces stemmed from days at various beaches, experimenting with different ways to express the sea without using typical mediums. The lines and shapes within are interpretive to the individual but with a core idea of what one feels and sees when at the sea.

Contrasting Elements
Synopsis : Kelsey has explored the theme of ‘contrasting elements’ inspired by the fashion illustrator Shamekh Bluwi and fine artist Patrick Caulfield. Kelsey’s work incorporates contrasting styles such as digital painting and drawing combined to create her illustrations, making us look again at familiar scenes and seeing these in new ways. Kelsey’s work uses varying backgrounds, sometimes through window cut outs but also through dominant line over the top of digital illustrations. After finishing her A-Levels, Kelsey intends to study a Foundation Degree in Art and Design at Bristol School Of Art., Queens Road.

The Dust Mites
Synopsis :
Joe has worked towards humanising the idea of dirt. Developing the creatures he calls ’Dust Mites’, Joe has been sticking the monstrosities into the nooks and crannies of Bristol and creating an eco system of these creatures. The Dust Mites are usually attracted towards areas of financial and social corruption - festering and breeding in these areas before withering away and turning into dust. There are over 20 Dust Mites hidden around Paintworks - see if you can spot them all. Next year Joe plans to study an Arts Foundation in Queens Road, focusing on illustration.
Title of Work : “Bleeding all the colours of the Rainbow” Synopsis : For this project Dana has used procion dyes to create a series of portraits that use colour to express different emotions. She wanted to use a range of techniques such as letting the dyes run down the page and blend with each other freely. By doing this Dana wanted to show that sometimes our emotions can not be controlled and pour, drip and leak from us in an untamed way. Dana was inspired by artist Agnes Cecile who also uses watercolour in a similar way. Destination : Dana plans to apply for apprenticeships once she finishes her ALevels.

Laura has depicted this construct while exploring the development of colours. She used a medium sized brush to display a varying colour pallet, which included natural tones as well as exaggerated colours. This changed depending on the subject of her painting. The colour use, the bold brush stokes and the loose use of ink creates an expressive interpretation of each individual. Next year Laura hopes to take an Art Foundation course at The Cardiff Art Academy.

Double Exposure Portraits
Synopsis : Sofia has created double exposure portraits, where she has manipulated two images together to create a double exposure effect. Sofia has experimented by drawing just the portrait on cartridge paper and then placing the double exposure drawing on acetate on top of the portrait drawing. Sofia has also experimented by using a screen print for the outlines of the second portrait drawing to create different mediums. Next year Sofia is planning to study BA (Hons) Textiles for Fashion and Interiors at Bath Spa University.
Title of Work : Georgie Synopsis : Shola was inspired by portraiture artists such as Clearwen James and Rob Beckett, for the development towards her final piece. She has used her younger sister to produce this bold piece, capturing many emotions in her face. After having experimented with colour and different mediums, shola decided that Chalk Pastel’s was her favourite. The child in the portraiture is happy, however, the chalk suggests otherwise. This is how Clearwen James uses colour in her work. Shola plans to continue Fine Art and Graphics through an Art Foundation Course at Clifton’s School of Art.

Synopsis : Roksana’s work is based on line and liquid portraiture. Inspired by Georgina Luck and Alvaro Tapia, Roksana has focused on exaggerating colour and digitally recreated outlines, based on her photographs of the models, in order to represent expression within us that is not always presented to the outside world.

Synopsis : For this project Hope decided to focus around her own personal struggles with body image and mental health issues, finding innovative and creative ways to portray those feelings and difficult subjects in her work. She took inspiration from artists Gillian Lambert and John Rankin, who both found ways of showing emotions through their own portraiture projects. Next year, Hope plans to study BA (Hons) Criminology at Plymouth University.
Title of Work : Portraiture Synopsis : Bethany has explored the idea of drawing on cardboard canvases. She found that she enjoys using a variety of materials as it allows her to create dark tonal pieces that captures the attention of the viewer. She has used 9B and 8B graphite pencils, white chalk, charcoal, and white emulsion paint, where the simple background allows the portrait to stand out alone. With the composition of one of the portraits looking at the other portrait, it has a feel that the individual drawn is looking at themselves, as well as the viewer. Next year, Bethany hopes to attend a Counselling course at Filton college.

Synopsis : Within her figurative theme, Sophie has been focusing on ‘Bodyscape’ images. The close-up presence of body parts have been altered to reflect the expressionist work of Egon Schiele along with a mixture of colours created with ink. Julião Sarmento has influenced Sophie to explore the use of space within her work to generate subtle but effective pieces.
Holly Risdale’s work captures innocent features of a fuchsia flower. Since the summer of 2015 she has been experimenting with natural form subjects, and a range of mediums during her Fine Art A-Level. One of her most successful pieces of work initially was her small fuchsia paintings, which were created in an A5 sketch book. From her sketch book illustrations she has enlarged delicate pieces which show the intricate details from a different scale. After college Holly plans to take a gap-year where she plans to pursue a future career in Graphic Design and Illustration.

Title of Work: La Main Synopsis: Jasmine’s project focuses on the idea of using light against parts of the human body, creating bold shadows and highlighting detail. Inspired by the work of CJ Hendry, she loved her use of white space to put a spotlight on the object. By using pointillism she has shown how detail and realism can be created through the simple art of miniscule dots to make the illusion of a solid form. Jasmine has been offered places to do an Art Foundation Diploma next year.

Synopsis : References to still life Dutch painters, Thomas has been inspired by the themes of ‘Momento Mori’ with each visual object conveying a symbolic underlying meaning. Each element illustrates the significance and value of earthly wealth and possessions, both seen as luxuries and indulgences of life. Thomas includes the skull as a cautionary reminder that even the wealthiest can not escape inevitability of death.
Synopsis : For this project Kat decided to focus on the line quality to present the texture that is found on the buildings. Kat’s work has been inspired by artists such as Lucinda Rogers and Luis Ruiz Padron, who both focus on the use of lines when depicting architecture. Kat has worked with different media such as drawing, screen printing and digital software to achieve her final piece.
Next Year: Thomas hopes to attend a Foundation Diploma course to further his art studies.

Lauren’s project developed as a result of an interest in body image. Lauren was initially inspired by the perceptions of Plantagenet King Richard III following a successful propaganda campaign from the subsequent Tudors, upon the discovery of his scoliosis. Lauren’s work was primarily inspired by Egon Schiele and Alberto Giacometti, who have also explored interests in perception/ alienation. As her project developed, she became increasingly inspired by Jenny Saville. Lauren has purposely kept brush strokes fluid, allowing the backgrounds and foregrounds to merge. Synopsis : Georgia has found that through the course working experimentally through abstracting natural forms is her strongest skill. Mondrian (her chosen artist) has inspired her work and helped her create a piece of art which is unique and bold. She has focused on the use of light and shadows to create the illusion of a forest and added detail in each tree to cover different aspects of visual media and processes used through screen printing, drawing and acrylic paint. Next year: Georgia will be taking a gap year to travel before further study.
Synopsis : Daniel’s work is inspired by the works of Moholy Nagy and Robert Delaunay, and combined them to create his own style. He has used paint as a media for his work and used squeegees to spread the paint and create patterns similar to the piece above. He has further developed his project by splicing images using Photoshop to add another dimensions to the work. Next year Daniel will be going to Cardiff Metropolitan University to study a BA (hons) in Graphic Communication.
Synopsis : Laura’s work focuses on the face in detail. The dark background and loose outline of the rest of the body ensures all attention is drawn to the face of the model. The pictures taken use dramatic lighting to create contrast and emotion.

Synopsis : Uti david has used charcoal, biro and chalk to create stempunk based environments and creatures. He combined this theme with Celtic art which is fine to create more defined and interesting figures. He combines this two stiles together with living creatures to create life forms mixed with machines.
Synopsis : Elsie has developed her work around natural forms by exploring the interaction of weight and light of sculptural items with their surroundings. The use of mixed media and the incorporation of natural elements in her work, has allowed her to create links between her installation and wall mounted pieces through similar tones and contrast created by the forms and materials. The installation pieces have been hung so that they will respond to the movement of air caused by the viewer . Elsie is hoping to attend an Art Foundation course before going to university.

‘Downtown Nightscape’
Synopsis: Sophie has been influenced by Impressionism and the work of the modernist American artist Edward Hopper. Through her investigations she has experimented in creating painterly effects of light through the application of loose brush marks of pigment, she also used various sizes of card to drag the paint across to then work into the composition further. For subject matter Sophie has focused on capturing Bristol’s iconic landscapes that reflect the vintage Americana of Hopper’s paintings, such as a cinema at night and the silver Airstream trailer café at Paintworks.
Next year Uti David will study BA (Hons) Graphic Communication at UAL, Chelsea. .

Title of Work: The Millionaire’s Shoe Diary Synopsis: A ‘millionaire’s’ shoes are her most iconic symbol of success and her journey to becoming a millionaire. “A woman carries her clothes. But the shoe carries the woman” People are able to judge wealth by looking at the person’s shoes which means your shoes carry your status/ class. Through my journey I have learnt about not just any shoes but finding even everyday shoes like for example my shoes would maybe a dancer’s pair of shoes, a ballerina’s pair of shoes possibly. So for my final piece I have decided to use pointe shoes and lined them up in screen print in different colours and as you can see the colours blend into each other like a journey, like a shoe diary.

Synopsis : For this project Myles was aiming to create a concept brand: Cyborg. The concept brand idea was a mobile software company which creates a new mobile operating system to simplify and make mobile tasks easier through simplistic design choices. Myles has designed the logo, advertising material and the mobile software design for the brand. All this combined creates the core elements of the companies design.

Mimi focuses her work on shapes and form. She has combined the form of the human face and patterns cut into shapes to make these beautiful pieces. Mimi is planning to study Graphic Design at University next year
Synopsis : Jodie has focused on her French Bulldog, Nico, as a subject for this project. She developed three colour screen print from her own photographs and drawings, and has used this image to create a series of cards presented in a stylish presentation box aimed at the dogloving market. Next year Jodie hopes to be doing freelance graphics and photography while working part-time.

Synopsis : Ellie’s project is based upon the theme metamorph where she combined a puffer fish and a sewing machine together. She has created many repeat patterns from her illustrations. She has produced designs digitally and repeating with screen prints. With her patterns, she applied them to a range of packaging for a textile company she has created, called Puchine. Next year Ellie hopes to study BA Textile Design (Hons) at Falmouth University.

Synopsis : For this project Molly created illustrations of different buildings to create screen printed octagons of different sizes. The inspiration for this project came from the artist Nicole Crock, who in her exhibition ‘Tessellation’ took vintage photographs to create a piece of work which shows her nomadic lifestyle. Similarly to the artist’s work within the octagons are buildings from around Bristol, Molly’s idea for the project was based around ‘home’ and ‘community’. After St Brendan’s Molly will be taking a gap year to then carry on with Graphic Communication at university.
Title of Work : Octosoap Synopsis : Developed from drawings of an octopus and an electric plug, Jasmine has created a brand and packaging that has metamorphosed into a product that is Octosoap. Synopsis : Sophie has made a range of patterns using her drawings she created from photographs of headphones. Once she scanned the drawings in, she experimented with colour and placed the drawings in different positions to create effective wallpaper patterns such as the ones above. Sophie later used her designs within her product she created, which was a box for headphones, replicating that of a matchbox.
Synopsis : Gabriella’s current work has looked at the face and incorporating the environment within this. Inspired by found album covers, she originally drew the illustration by hand and then developed this digitally. The blues were created from a series of mark making. Her aim was to make the landscape element feel natural and as though the figure as grown from it.

Human Butterfly
Tracy’s inspiration came from the vibrant colours and features of the butterflies. Her work is a mixture of linear drawings and digital experimentation. Tracy’s images were taken at the Bristol Museum and natural spaces such as the park. In her work she uses methods which include illustration, ink and pen. Synopsis : Josie has created hand drawn and digital illustrations of iconic buildings and monuments in Bath, St Michaels Mount and rural France. Her simple linear illustrations focus on detail and texture and are intended to be used for promotional material and products for the places she has visited.
Synopsis : For this project Sam has photographed several images of musical instruments/ backgrounds that he digitally recreates into a solid colour design. These objects were photographed mainly at home but also throughout some studios in the Bristol area. Sam wanted to concentrate on this idea because he is very passionate about his music and also chose the design style because even though it is simple to make solid designs it can look quite complex at the final stage, just like music.
Synopsis : After selecting one animal (elephant) and one unrelated object (suitcase) , Kelsey created a morphed representation of both within her invented company ‘Elecase’. This moved on to creating screen-prints, repeat pattern and using these to produce travel products that include a tote bag and passport cover.
Next year, Josie plans to take Archaeology at Bournemouth University.

Synopsis : During her personal investigation, Aleksandra created illustrations inspired by two contemporary artists– Veronica Leto and Adams Carvalho. She experimented with the photographs she took and created illustrations. Aleks used different media such as screen printing, painting, collage and digital media, and applied quotes and lyrics into her illustrations to add another dimension to the illustrations.
Synopsis : Lauren Lloyd has produced her work from her ‘meta-morph’ project, where she was given owls and keys as starting points. By generating funky designs of owls and keys combined she was able to design a logo. Using her linear drawings of keys she screen printed in different variations to create effective patterns. By scanning in her prints she digitally developed her patterns to create surface pattern designs for her invented wrapping paper brand. Next year, Lauren hopes to study Art and Design Foundation at City of Bath College.

Synopsis : Niko’s exploration of the metamorphosis project captures the strongest characteristics from both the animal and object, this involves the sleek and sharp shapes from scissors and the more cute curves and collected movement of squirrels. The main techniques used are drawing, pencil rubbing and screen printing, followed by digital enhancement, influenced by the steam-punk style akin to Vladimir Grozder and Redmer Hoekstra.

Synopsis : For this project Shannon created illustrations based on three popular tourist destinations; Tokyo, London and New York City. Shannon incorporated iconic motifs from the three locations as well as more personal items to create unique promotional material for these cities.
Synopsis : Georgia’s original inspiration for this project was the animal of a shark and the object of a record player/ gramophone. She has used screen printing to create some of her repeat patterns of the shark shape which is made up of a disc illustration. She decided to go down the route of making the packaging to what would be a series of different bars of soap (representing each different scent with a different colour). Georgia produced 3 boxes for the soap bars with a wrap which brings them all together. Next year Georgia is planning to get an apprenticeship in Marketing and Advertising.

Synopsis : Kerry’s work is an exploration into the pattern, lines and shapes found in natural objects. In this work she is investigating the naturally occurring repetition found within fruit. The 50’s pop-art of Andy Warhol and imaginative colourful designs of Adam Slade, creator of Hide Your Toys Graphic Designs, informs Kerry’s ideas into which she injects her own contemporary approach. Kerry has reproduced the iconic image of the periodic table with a pop-art vibe by using repetition and strong colours. She represents the fruit details in a flattened abstract style by selectively reducing the information to a minimum to create this bold poster. Next year Kerry will be travelling to Japan to experience living and working within a different culture; she plans to use this opportunity to expand her portfolio in preparation for University.

The main focus of the images is to try and reflect the beauty of the models, using bold colours, makeup and posed positions which attempt to replicate the types of images that appear in the pages of modern fashion magazines. After this exhibition, Caitlin aspires to go to Bath Spa University to complete a film and TV production course. Although these subjects aren’t directly linked, she feels that photography has allowed her to gain a better understanding of technical aspects such as lighting, as well as the different ways the audience may perceive the images in front of them.
Synopsis : Jodie’s work shows urban landscape around Bristol at twilight in the winter season. Jodie wanted to show Bristol at night through digital photography. The selection of images she has chosen show the best of Bristol and the beauty of it at twilight at the Harbourside. Synopsis : Mary-Lou has conducted four different portrait photos for the exhibition. Her artist influence for this piece is Mark Wallace; who takes several images of women in a studio showing flesh and wearing clothes. Synopsis : William’s summer project focuses on natural beauty and elegance of pigeons. Synopsis : Natalie Dart’s exhibition focuses on disguising the identity of food through photographing with a macro lens. Her photographs are taken from a different and interesting perspective compositionally that you would not usually view the food from and allows the viewer to question the image. By using the macro lens which allowed her to photograph in intricate detail Natalie’s images range between having a shallow and large depth of fields to create a more intriguing viewer’s experience. To show the high level of detail from her images three of her final images are taken of a pineapple but appear beautifully displayed in three very different styles and ways.

Synopsis : Lorena’s work explores the use of Bristol Waterworks. She explores different areas around Bristol that the River Avon flows through. Lorena worked in day and night situations to see the different colours and lighting effects, but chose to edit her images in Photoshop to black and white to show the contrasting tones in the water. She was influenced by photographers like Peter Watson that explored the movement of water in rivers and lakes. Destination: Lorena will hopefully being going to University after college to study Politics.
Death and how society deals with it. She wanted to look at the more celebratory side of life rather than the sorrow that comes with passing. She wanted to demonstrate how death can be a positive thing in cultures and how healing is a key part of moving on. She has done this by looking at cultural influences such as the Mexican tradition of “the day of the dead” and the social mourning process of funerals and burials. When Lizzie finishes College she plans to continue with photography in her spare time while focusing on work and family.

Synopsis : Georgia’s work focuses on the pure essence of nature and using natural elements to create an image of movement. She has looked at ways of portraying people being free to explore in nature. Alex Forrest is a 17 year old student who is currently studying at St.Brendans Sixth Form College. Alex’s summer project captures the inside of the sporting industry. Focusing on individual athletes, Alex has been capturing images in perspectives which identify the small details that take place in the process of becoming a successful. By using his skills in taking fast motion photographs, Alex was able to provide a wide range of different pieces of work. Once Alex completes his final year at college he hopes to take a gap year to earn money to save up to travel. For a future career Alex aims to become a self-employed personal trainer. To do this Alex plans on carrying out training courses whilst working within a leisure centre to gain money and experience.

Buildings Before Dawn
Natalya’s work captures images of architecture around the UK, in well known scenes recognisable to the audience. These were taken throughout the summer and Christmas holidays in multiple locations including: Newcastle, Glasgow, York and Bath. She experimented with the reflections of buildings in rivers and with flashes showing how they highlight buildings and can unveil more detail, as well as using a variety of angles while composing her images. Sophie’s photography project focuses on movement within portraiture; she got her inspiration from artists such as Bill Wadman; who used long shutter speed to capture full body shots of people while dancing and Djon Mili; who used a fast shutter speed and images taken rapidly and layered on top of each other to show movement. By using a tripod and either studio lights or a powerful flash she was able to keep the image stable where she wanted, but also show elements of movement in it. She has created two A2 final portrait pieces for the exhibition, she has taken influence from the artists but has also tried to make the images different and her own. Sophie has applied to art foundation courses in both Weston and Bristol so next year she can hopefully continue to learn and experiment with photography and help her start to work towards a career in photography.

Synopsis : Kiya’s project captures the urban everyday-lifestyle using a unique black and white film photography technique. Many of her images are taken during night time and utilise the effects of shadows and an array of lighting. The project was influenced by Brassaï’s street photography and Spooner’s 35mm format film photography, both portraying a strong sense of verisimilitude, which inspired the documentary style of Kiya’s project.
Title of Work : Synopsis : For this project Samantha chose to photograph landscapes in different light conditions, focusing particularly on the sunset and the sunrise. These images were taken at various locations in and around Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare using HDR photography. Samantha’s work is influenced by Charlie Waite and Ansel Adams after gaining influence from their lighting techniques, specifically Ansel Adams’ black and white zonal range. Samantha plans to go into an apprenticeship in sound design and will also continue with her photography in her spare time.

Alex’s personal investigation exhibition summarises the developments he has made as a technically skilled photographer. The final project ‘Digital Manipulation’ - showcases his passion and creative vision for the art. His previous project exhibited his Photoshop skills, deconstructing an image and making use of layering to alter the conditions under which the photographs were taken. This conclusion to his personal investigation takes steps to transforming his artistic values into commercial reality. The aim for producing these exhibition pieces was to develop Alex’s re-touching and colour correction skills with technical software to a professional standard. The vibrancy and colour depth of Alex’s images provides an insight into the digital and technical skills that are required in order to produce this high level of photography. The use of Adobe Light room has given Alex the opportunity to transform his artistic understanding into a physical form of art.

Synopsis : Joe has explored the finer details of fashion, using the different components such as lighting, composition, angle and depth of field to portray this fashion with a unique perspective. Within his work he has linked it to the work of Brian Alcazar, a New York based fashion photographer. They both focus on smaller details such as the colours and textures that come together to create the clothing. Joe intends to take a gap year next year to explore photography more freely before possibly going to university to study photography.
Frozen Fruit
Synopsis : Katie’s work focuses on aspects of Still Life photography; looking into the theme of food (mainly fruit). In past projects she has taken photos of fruit and vegetables in black and white and in this project she wanted to focus on the vibrant colours of the fruit and making the colours stand out. With the development of Katie’s ideas, she was able to take creative and quirky images using different compositions and layouts. By using a macro lens Katie was able to create very detailed images; she also used several flashes in order to create a good standard of lighting. She has used her photographer research throughout this project to inspire her with her photo shoots and final pieces. In the future she is planning on going to university to study TV and Film production.

Synopsis : For this project Hope has decided to photograph traditional architecture around Bristol and Bath, along with experimenting with some more modern buildings. Hope’s work was influenced by the work of photographers Ezra Stoller and Hélène Binet as they both work in black and white photography, which she experimented with during her project. Synopsis : Holly’s work aims to portray the atmosphere of shopping areas during the winter season, where shops are at their busiest. She was inspired by black and white documentary photographers Lee Friedlander and Bill Brandt, capturing atmospheres that the public create. Amy has chosen to focus on the female form, in particular women on the larger size. Her work is influenced by photographers such as Carrie Levy and Annegret Soltau. The images were taken by using unusual angles and creative lighting techniques were used to accentuate the body’s contours and patterns. Amy’s intention is to show her audience that the body is beautiful no matter what size.
Rhea’s project focuses on body form and the idea that energy and movement can be projected through still images of dancers. The intricate detailed images allow viewers to see the dancers elevated muscles create shapes through close ups of the human body, whilst the long shot images portray projection of energy.

Amber Sawyer’s project captures the insight of those who struggle or have struggled with mental health issues. The project is based around the models personal experience and allows them to portray themselves as how they would want to come across as without being told what to do. The use of dark lighting and flash creates a lot of contrast in the images and allows more of a control on the lighting on the image – creating different tones and shadows, which is why she used this as a theme amongst all of the images taken. In the future she hopes to use photography as a part time job and taking images of things such as events, portraits and travelling photography.

Tianna’s project explores a modern theme of food photography. Tianna referenced her work to Stephen Lewis, a food photographer, and Dan Mountford, a double exposure and landscape photographer. Her photos are taken in the studio, using external flashes., then editing using Photoshop to create these beautiful pieces. After this year Tianna hopes to stay on and do A2 IT and Graphics Communication. She would like to then go on to a Foundation Art and Design course in Bath College.

Holly’s project focuses on emotion, specifically that of the model behind the camera. Her work looked at the emotions that a person would feel if they had been trapped in a room with only a camera to interact with. With the camera taking a low static position and the model coming towards the camera it makes the image feel more intimate and helps to exemplify the emotional state. With a sequence of images the viewer can see the journey of emotions that the model has gone through and in turn go on this journey too. Holly has a place on an Advertising course where she hopes photography will help her in her career to create visually stimulating advertisement.

Synopsis : Peter’s work was inspired by the minimalistic work of Richard Avedon. He has combined both fashion and portraiture photography to create a denim campaign for the S/S 2016.
Synopsis : Harriet’s work focuses on portraiture style images that explore the way people can look vulnerable through the use of photography. The pictures were taken in both a studio setting with professional lighting and also in the subject’s personal environments; this gave Harriet the opportunity to develop and refine her practical photographic skills. Harriet aimed to create simply composed images that are emotion evoking and represent different aspects of vulnerability, such as isolation and insecurity. Next year Harriet plans to take a gap year before attending university to study BA (Hons) Photography.

Synopsis : Ellie has focused her project on tropical plants where she has stylised her drawings, using Photoshop, to create bold and contrasting patterns. Her work is inspired by Hanna Werning, a designer that creates stylized imagery using an exciting colour palette. Ellie has explored different tropical plants, from her wallpapers based upon palm trees and the cactus, creating a very busy patterned fabric. The fabric has been screen printed with the cactus pattern. All of the prints are brought together by their colour schemes and a touch of hand stitch. Her work shows creative views of often overlooked cacti, showing their unique textures and shapes.
Synopsis : Molly’s work is based around classical architecture that she photographed on her visits to Greece and London. Her artist influence ,Aino—Maiji Metsola, inspired Molly’s work through the use of linear drawings and areas of bold coloured shapes. Her final pieces represent the fireworks against a night time sky of London which celebrate the New Year. Experimenting with different techniques she decided Procion Dyes gave the best effect.

Tree Shadows
Alexis looked at skeleton trees for the starting point for this project. Inspired by Finnish designers at Vallila interiors, she looked at artists whose work explored similar themes and winter colour schemes. She produced digital images from her photographs that were then turned into screen-print patterns and printed onto tiedyed fabric. Synopsis : This year River has been looking at gaming and electronics, focusing on the different motifs on objects such as controllers and circuit boards. He has also been looking at ideas of gender identity and expression, due to the stereotype of gaming being a masculine hobby and using pastel feminine colours in order to contrast with this. He has been heavily influenced by the Yves Saint Laurent ‘Le Smoking’ Collection that was originally featured in the 1960s, and this is reflected in his decision to focus on suiting and tailoring.
Synopsis : Albie Millers work was inspired by her summer holiday in the Cornish costal town of St Ives. Focusing on the Gulls, Albie created a series of experimental textile prints which she then developed into a interior collection of hand printed wallpapers and lampshades. Albie is looking forward to a career within the interior industry.

She was inspired by book illustrations from Lauren Child and Quentin Blake and has used similar techniques in developing her ideas. Synopsis : Throughout the year, Jaz’s main focus has been Doorways. You can see some influence from this in her work, such as in the ‘wire’ inspired bottom and the idea of growing vines. However, after a visit to Alexander McQueen's ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition, Jaz has also been inspired by less conventional materials, such as use of frozen flowers and dissolvable fabric. Additionally, the visit influenced her to look at and take inspiration from gothic romanticism. Next year Jaz is considering an Art Foundation course or taking a year to work independently on her textiles.
Synopsis : Sofia has created a variety of 2-D paper and fabric dresses using a print design inspired by teacups. The fabric is designed and made by appliqueing, tie dyeing, screen and block printing. The paper design dresses are digitally manipulated. The style of the dresses are inspired by Horrockses Fashion from the 1950’s.

Synopsis : Kat has focused on the iconic architecture around London, which she saw whilst in London. Artists such as Maija Leuokari and Aino- Maija Metsola have inspired Kat to look at different methods of laying her drawings of iconic monuments in London digitally to create captivating and unique fabric pieces. Kat has used different media through this project such as screen print, hand embroidery to give more texture to her work and digital software.
Synopsis : Peter’s work is inspired by his trip to the Philippines during the summer holidays. He was drawn to the colours and the textures of his homeland, which have inspired his fashion collection. The ready-to -wear pieces were mainly inspired by Delpozo’ architectural construction which is suitable for an elegant and youthful woman.
Synopsis : Rhian began her project inspired during a summer trip to Westward Ho’ in Devon. The waves crashing against the rocks and more specifically the pebbles provided the inspiration for a spell binding array of circular patterns and the obvious textures that this natural phenomenon provides. Rhian has translated this into a wonderful collection of colourful patterned designs focusing on orange, white and grey that will transform your home and inspire your natural creative side.

Synopsis : Mehnaz has decided to design a

modular home that is issued to people who are homeless and do not have a shelter, such as refugees. Mehnaz’s design reduces the construction period from 48 weeks to only two weeks. This is useful for displaced refugees who might otherwise wait months for suitable accommodation. She found a reliable and easy solution to overcome this problem as modular homes are very easy to build and less expensive due to the simple panel fixtures and fittings required. Mehnaz has a produced a CAD design which shows the interior parts of the house and the conventional features of a house. It has a living room, bathroom and a shared bedroom with furniture. It is suitable for any family. Destination: Architecture - Birmingham City University.
Flood Safe Home
This project is aimed at designing a prefabricated, flood-proof building to be built on either flood plains, or as a rejuvenation scheme where houses have been damaged by flooding and need rebuilding. The garage area does not aim to keep flood water out but allows it to fill up and then naturally drain out due to the buildings permeable foundations, acting as a deadspace. Aspects such as the double height ceiling and open plan living space make this house a desirable place to live while the thick timber frame walls give the homeowner a sense of security against the extreme extents of the elements.

Rachel Clayton’s project is focused on designing a high chair, that aims to improve the safety of the child by addressing common problems that tend to occur, such as children slipping by not having enough support. Rachel feels strongly about improving the welfare of children and has realised that high chair safety is still a problem, so feels this product is needed for todays market. She has looked at various news articles and has researched common issues to allow her to gain a greater understanding of how to make a high chair safer. Her main focus was on the chair section itself, where she has developed her designs to make them ergonomic so that the child is able to sit comfortably and securely. She also has aimed to adapt basic high chair components such as the tray and crotch post so that the safety of those are maximised.

Synopsis : Iman has designed a home that can withstand harsh hurricane wind, preventing it from destroying it and causing injury to the people living in it as well. The home is specifically designed in an aerodynamic shape to allow the wind to flow around it smoothly. Part of the home is underground to make it more secure and give less advantage for the wind to potentially damage it or any other harsh weather change. The two houses are designed to create a single circular shape that allows them to protect and shield each other from the hurricane. Destination: BA Architecture at Manchester University.
Synopsis : Billy-Joe has been working on designing an easily portable medical crutch. Designing ways it can be folded together when not in use, or easily carried when on public transport. He looked at other products to get inspired to design a new, more attractive crutch.

Flood resistant door
Synopsis :
For this project, Megan has designed a door that is intended for homes in areas of high risk of flooding in the UK. The unique expanding mechanism in the interior of the door allows the outer edges of the door to expand, providing a watertight seal. Megan has designed this due to the lack of products currently on the market, as most existing flood defence systems are temporary structures that are not aesthetically pleasing. The main intention for her design was to be a permanent structure that did not interfere with every day life, yet still provided a good flood defence. Next year Megan intends to study BA (hons) History of Art at Plymouth University.

The current drill design is based and built to suit an older generations needs. A lot of retired men and women still enjoy the freedom of doing their own DIY around their house. So Ashley has designed and built thinking of all the areas that he would think they struggle with while getting older, due to the control they have over a drill due to its weight and also its power. Ashley has looked at reducing the weight by lowering all needs of silly areas that are not needed, and then looked and studied at how he can make it much easier for his target market, especially those still enjoying the freedom of DIY. He has also looked at the power and control of the drill by adding the 360 degree turning grip that allows the user to have much more control at all angles and heights. Ashley has decided to use a powerful but easy 12v battery that is still very effective but won’t take control of the user when in use due to lack of strength the retired user may have.

Synopsis : Uti David has created a protective gear set for workshop activities. This product is made up of goggles ,an anti –noise headset and a dust mask. Synopsis: Surfboards currently are very big and bulky which often makes it hard for people to transport them, especially in the UK. Jacob’s new design of a folding surfboard should allow people to be able to transport them in the boot of a car with ease. The folding design is also designed to get more people into surfing as a lot of people don't want to do it as they have no way of being able to store the board. However, if the board is able to fold away, they may be more inclined to start surfing. Jacob’s product also has a hexagon core to help with strength and stability as standard foam would be unsuitable. Destination: RAF

Synopsis : For this project Reece attempted
Synopsis : Many current systems that allow for
to tackle the problem of homes taking up too much room and not being compact enough. So with this idea Reece has designed a home with all the essentials but compressed into a much smaller space, which is a shipping container. Reece also made the addition of customisation within the home by making it modular, allowing for rooms to be moved to different sections and swapping rooms around. Doing so will allow the user of the home to have a home in the way they want whilst not taking up much room, allowing for many of the homes to be within the same area.

Jonathan has created an earthquake protection system that is the building itself, so minor damages to the structure are entirely eliminated. Jonathan has also aimed to create the building in a high tech modern style . This is so the user can be proud to call it their home.It uses Jonathan’s own shock damping system which allows the building to slide in all directions and spring back to its original position again. This means that the occupants of the home only feel a fraction of the earthquake inside of the building and are able to move around the home easily to gather up any fragile ornaments that may become damaged if they fall.

Synopsis : Drills currently on the market are professional, high powered equipment but this does not suit the target market Charlie is looking at. Charlie is looking at less able/experienced DIY members. Charlie’s product is an easy to use drill with a small focus on female users in ergonomics and with features to aid less experienced users. The drill does this by offering adjustability for the users hand position and the position of the drill. Next year Charlie intends to study LLB (Hons) Law at Plymouth University
After college Jonathan aims to go on and study architecture at university.

Title of Work : Natural disaster emergency shelters Synopsis : The main problem with most shelters that are currently being used is the longterm living conditions, such as crowded shelters, and most of the shelters used are tents with poor structure. To solve these problems Kat aimed to use high quality materials that are cheap and strong to make the shelter last for a long time . Also to improve the structure of the shelter, making it safer, as she wants to make the users feel safe after the disaster. Kat has also decided to have main shelters so the user can sleep and be relaxed, and have a separate shelter where the kitchen and bathroom will be shared. Destination : Interior Design at University

Synopsis : One of the largest problems with modern cities is the traffic, which wastes huge amounts of money and time. European cities in particular suffer from this as they are often older, so streets can be narrower making the problem even worse as the number of cars on the road increases. Dan felt the problem with current public transport is that they also use the roads so only add to the problem. A better solution would be to have a system that does not use the roads so it cannot be delayed at peak times. Dan aimed to design a transport system that is raised above the roads whilst also being a compact system that would have a minimal impact on current city layouts.
Synopsis : In our current generation back problems are a major issue that need to be resolved. Over 3 million people took time off work due to back pain in 2015. Jordan felt that something had to change and fast. He decided to create “Spinal X”. This is a product that looks at the major parts of the back and tries to support the users needs. Jordan’s main focus is the vertebrae because they are what make up the spine and can be easily damaged. The way it works is the product will stick to a backpack using Velcro strips and, due to the memory foam pads, it will mould to the users spinal curvature. Jordan hasn’t just created the product for one specific user, he has designed it for anyone to use.

Title of Work : Eco-Friendly Bike shelter Synopsis : The main walls and seating of the product is produced from a sustainable material called Mineral Added Plastic Lumber and the bike stands from recycled high carbon steel. Also the use of green concrete as foundations which uses limestone. The bike shelters design is modular, meaning that it is open to the client to decide the quantity of features or size of bike shelter needed. The design of the interlocking beams is intended to save on materials and also accommodate potential climbing plants. There is also the potential to add solar panels to the bike shelter. To provide the actual shelter tensile structures will be placed separately next to one or more of the bike shelter pods.

Folding Mountain Bike
Synopsis :
The modern folding bicycle is an innovative piece of modern day technology. Ollie has been looking at designing a folding bicycle that is more versatile than others. The point of this bike is that It can be used off road and on different types of terrain. This mean the bike has all the features of a mountain bike but can still fold to half of its size. The bike feels comfy to ride and grips well on different types of terrain. Ollie’s bike has been ergonomically designed to fit up to 95% of users with one frame and adjustable parts, while also being light enough to carry around when folded.

Flood defence mechanism
Synopsis : My product is a flood defence system which is designed with the aim to protect water from entering a property through the door. My product is aimed at a very narrow target range which is residents who live in an area which is threatened by flooding, in particular homes that are built on flood plain, there was a gap in the market for this type of product as there are not many products that can be fitted on to an existing house that will then protect water from entering through the door. The actual product consists of a three aluminium sheets of that are reinforced by a thin layer of steel frame to make the product stronger, panels, which fold out of a recessed man hole cover, to latch onto a door.
