Legal apprenticeship RPC Paralegal Apprenticeship Scheme in Bristol will help build the foundations of a successful career as a solicitor, with the training and support you’ll need to excel.

Applications are open for the ISSI 2019 Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute – for Year 13 The Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI) is a unique opportunity for Year 13 (ages 17-18) students to spend a month working as part of a research team alongside leading scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

As well as getting the chance to conduct real scientific experiments, students produce reports and present their findings to their peers before spending a week in a field school where they experience the diverse ecosystems, wildlife, and archaeology of the region.

Business Support Apprentice Opportunity An opportunity has arisen for a Business Support apprentice to join South Gloucestershire Council in the Business Support team at Badminton Road offices, Yate. You will be working within a very large team and be trained (at Level 2 in Business Administration) and gain experience in the business support team.

Over the duration of the 13 month apprenticeship you will be trained and gain work experience of carrying out a variety of administrative duties competently and effectively. You will also complete a course of study and have the opportunity to obtain work-related professional qualifications. You will receive supervision, guidance and support from your workplace supervisor and a workplace mentor.

Our amazing student ambassadors will, of course, always be on hand to answer questions, make students feel at home and prove to parents that students do really eat – honest!

We could tell your students how great Leicester is, but to really give a taste of what’s to come, they’ll need to see it for themselves.

Notification of changes for 2019 entry to Oxford University (applications October 2018) Admissions tests Physics Aptitude test (PAT) Calculators will be permitted. Guidelines about the use of calculators along with details of the syllabus and links to supporting materials which candidates are encouraged to look at for preparation are available on the Physics website.

History Aptitude test (HAT) The HAT will consist of one question based on an extract from a primary source, to be answered in one hour. The format of this question will be similar to question 3 of past papers which are available on the History Faculty website.

Geography There will be no test this year.

Proof of registration: Please note that this year, as proof of registration, we are advising candidates to obtain a candidate entry number from their school/test centre by 6pm on 15 October. Late registration will not be possible.

Test dates: Please note the test dates for the next few years. We consider many factors when setting test dates but please be aware that due to variations in the dates of school half-terms, the tests may sometimes fall outside of term time in some regions. If you would like some advice on how to manage tests out of term time please contact us using ox.ac.uk/ask 2018: 31 October (confirmed) 2019: 30 October (confirmed) 2020: 4 November (confirmed) 2021: 3 November (provisional) 2022: 2 November (provisional) Course change New four-year course in Biology From 2019 there will be a new course, called Biology. This will replace the existing course in Biological Sciences.

Students can choose to leave after three years and graduate with a BA, or they can continue to a fourth year and graduate with a Master’s Degree in Biology, an MBiol. All students must apply for the four-year MBiol but can opt to leave after three years with a BA. Progression to the MBiol is contingent on satisfactory academic performance in the first three years. Details of the new Biology course can be found here.

Admissions Tests Some Universities require students to complete admissions tests.

It is imperative that students who are considering applying to competitive courses and in particular medicine research the entrance test deadlines and processes required.

Information about these tests is available on the UCAS website and students should contact Alison Rayner our Exams Officer to arrange the tests through college on alison.rayner@stbrn.ac.uk For more information on courses requiring admissions test see https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/admissions-tests

All other applicants 3rd December – college internal deadline for completed UCAS applications, as with early applicants; it will take us up to two week to process applications to ensure that references are completed and applications are checked thoroughly for errors before sending to UCAS deadline of 15th January.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

At hop, skip and jump we provide flexible and wrap around care for children and young adults with additional needs. Our Bristol centre has a large area to explore with a wide range of areas including a dark sensory room, a white sensory room, soft play / ball pit area, a music room, a games room and an art room. We also have a fully working kitchen and a massive outdoor space equipped with climbing frames, swings, slides for all ages and abilities and a lovely sensory area.

We provide a range of different sessions throughout the year which include: Respite sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings), for children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviours.

Stay and play sessions: These sessions run every Saturday and during the school holidays (except Tuesday and Thursday mornings) where the service user can come with either their families or carers to use the centre independently. The service user is in full care of their family or carer.

After school club sessions: These sessions are currently run on Wednesday and Friday evenings 3:30- 6:00, offering children and young adults with additional needs and challenging behaviour a safe environment to build social skills and engage in fun activities.
