Craft apprenticeships The core training takes a minimum of two years. Apprentices will be required to achieve the City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 and Level 3 Qualifications in Electrical Technology Engineering delivered through Manchester Open Learning. Apprentices will need to keep a Technical Apprenticeship Record (TAR) Portfolio which has a significant impact on the overall qualification. Your first twelve weeks will take place at one of our Training Centres.

The Young Engineer Programme London - Sunday 25th March We write to update you on The Young Engineer Programme to be held at UCL on 25th March. We anticipate being fully-booked in the next 3 weeks.

The Foundation Year is a free and fully funded, year-long course designed to enable students from under represented backgrounds to reach their potential. As a student on the Foundation Year you will live and study at Lady Margaret Hall, a college of the University of Oxford. Over the academic year, you will receive tuition in your chosen subject and in two core subjects. All of this teaching is aimed at preparing Foundation Year students to go on an excel either at Oxford University or at another top Russell Group university.

Lowered grade requirements: We recognise that achievement at GCSE and A Level is not necessarily an indicator of academic potential, and so we accept students onto the Foundation Year with grades that are lower than the traditional Oxford offer (e.g. BBB instead of AAA). Hair and Beauty Taster Session Date: Monday 12th February Time: 10am – 2pm Location: City Centre Campus, Roper Building Activities to include: file and paint, arm and hand massage, and hair styling.

Students will have a tour of the facilities and be able to ask questions about the courses offered.

Nova Aluminium are looking for trainee fabricators to work in their aluminium signage and glazing divisions! You'll receive full training and get hands-on experience. Perfect if you are interested in engineering!

2018 BRITISH AVIATION EXPERIENCE Students attending the programme will experience many aspects of life in the aviation industry, including flying lessons on light aircraft, Boeing 747 simulator, and emergency training with British Airways. Students will also learn about the maintenance and engineering side of the industry by visiting maintenance facilities and attending talks with professionals. There will also be visits to aviation museums, an airline headquarters as well as some exciting recreational activities, visits to London and Cardiff. The students’ accommodation will be in Oxford convenient to Oxford Airport where the flying lessons will take place.

This is an excellent way to help young people to decide whether they would like a career in aviation and provides a wonderful experience for the participants.

They will go home having gained valuable experience of many aspects of the industry, flying hours logged, and a broader outlook on life.

To join this three-year Degree Level Apprenticeship scheme starting in September 2018, you have (or are expecting to have by September 2018), 3 A-Levels in any subjects at grade C or above (or equivalent). You also have a minimum of 2 IGCSEs/GCSEs in STEM subjects, at grade 6/B or above, one of which is in maths.

A keen interest in programming, computing and technology is essential. Although previous experience in coding would be advantageous, it’s not required as you’ll have the opportunity to develop these skills on the apprenticeship.

2018 Foundation Apprentice Programme

Job Purpose The UK Power Networks Apprenticeship Programme, endorsed by E&U Skills and Accredited by the IET, provides the opportunity for individuals to become fully trained, qualified and competent “craft” persons in an electrical distribution industry in one of the following trade’s cable jointing, overhead lines or electrical plant fitting.

Principal Accountabilities: Apprentices are expected to learn all aspects of their chosen craft and apply the knowledge, skills and techniques gained through the Apprenticeship Programme competently, safely and in accordance with Network standards.

Apprentices will follow a Trailblazer Apprenticeship Framework which will include a Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering and a competency based qualification in Electrical Power Engineering whilst on the Programme. Apprentices are expected to undertake duties in accordance with their chosen craft: Jointers - Jointing duties, such as the maintenance & restoration of electrical supplies on the UK Power Networks distribution system, by means of carrying out jointing repairs on the HV and LV cable networks under the supervision of the area team as appropriate.

Overhead Linespersons - Overhead linesperson duties, such as the maintenance & restoration of electrical supplies on the UK Power Networks distribution system and carrying out reinforcements and new connections under the supervision of the area team as appropriate.

Fitters - Maintenance fitter duties, such as electrical fitting activities on plant (construction, maintenance and fault rectification as required) under the supervision of the area team as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience: Suitable applicants will be new to the power distribution industry and have recently achieved or be on course to achieve GCSE’s Grades A to D or 3 to 9 in English, Maths

McDonald’s Management Degree Apprenticeship McDonald’s School Leaver programme lasts five years and gives students the opportunity to follow a structured training programme, which leads to valuable qualifications. At the end of it, participants will have gained loads of practical experience and progressed through different management roles. They will have helped make real business decisions and could even go on to manage their own restaurant.

There is a financial advantage, too. The School Leaver Management Degree Apprenticeship is a great opportunity to earn while you learn. You won’t have the tuition fees, or the student loan, but you will be paid a competitive salary that increases as you progress through the programme.

The programme initially leads to a level 3 apprenticeship. You then have the opportunity to gain a BA (hons) degree in business management and retail, and chartered manager status with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

We have recently launched Business Insight Week 2018 with opportunities across our Cardiff and Bristol offices.

The programme has been highly popular in past years, attracting a wide variety of students from different backgrounds, having been promoted across a range of local target schools including schools that meet social mobility criteria. This August we are planning on taking 20 Year 12 (Lower 6th) students into our offices, inviting them to spend a week getting to know us across all LoS. Smart Futures is a ten month programme, which starts with paid work experience. This year, the Bristol programme will take place during the summer holiday. You will gain a variety of transferable skills that will give you a head start in your career. The programme can boost employability, helping you to get a job after school or go onto higher education.

After the work experience ends a mentor will support you throughout your final year at school and advise you on one of the biggest career choices you’ll make the first step in their working life. You will also be invited to a series of alumni events throughout this time.

Scholarship Cupboards Direct are proud to announce we have just launched our official 'Cupboards Direct Fund', awarded on a yearly basis.

All students around the United Kingdom currently (or prospectively) studying on business degrees, will be able to apply for this fund. Available to students on both undergraduate degrees and postgraduate degrees. Through the scholarship, in September of every year, we will award £1000 to assist with course fees.

Eligibility Requirements: You must be studying within the United Kingdom You must be applying for or currently studying on a business degree.

Alternatively, you may also be studying on a combined business degree.

Recent Developments

Bath Bursary For undergraduate students studying any subject full time. This is for up to £3000 per year of study for UK students who have a household income of £22,000 or below. You must also meet one or more of a set of widening participation criteria.

Local Student Start Up Award If a student is eligible for the Bath Bursary and they live locally to Bath they will ALSO be awarded an additional £1,000 in the first instalment of the bursary as a start-up fund for coming to university. The local area covered is huge including all of South Wales, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire .

Bath Gold Scholarship This awards £5,000 per year of study (not including any unpaid placement year and study abroad year) – these are new awards instituted to celebrated the 50th anniversary of the University last year. Associated with this award are compulsory enrichment activities to develop skills in general such as 50 hours of volunteering or fundraising per year, mentoring by alumni, skills training sessions, extra support. The criteria for eligibility are very similar to the Bath Bursary but the awards are discretionary so not everyone will necessarily be awarded one even if eligible.

Students cannot be awarded both the Bath Bursary and the Bath Gold Award, however both are definitely gifts, they do NOT need to be repaid.

We have tailored a bespoke prospectus for students giving them the unique opportunity to volunteer at our charitable projects in Sri Lanka whilst conducting an educational tour around the country. Our prospectus is available to schools as either a school trip (accompanied with teachers) or can be ran independently from the school. We believe that our prospectus will be of great interest to you and most importantly your students.

Pod Volunteer is an award winning non -profit organisation arranging ethical, inspiring and supported volunteering opportunities around the world since 2001.

Volunteers are needed from 1 - 12 weeks for animal, conservation, child care, education, teaching, building and community volunteering projects in Belize, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Ghana, India, Madagascar, Namibia, Nepal, Peru, South Africa and Thailand.

Trip to Auschwitz with The Holocaust Educational Trust The Holocaust Educational Trust offer two places per college to go on a trip to the concentration camp at Auschwitz. This involves an orientation seminar; a day trip from early morning to late at night flying to Krakow and going to Auschwitz; and then a debriefing session; with an opportunity to share your learning with the rest of your college community. It is very well and sensitively managed and students derive a great deal from the trip.

This is open to all students.

The place is subsidised, so that your only expense is to get to the two seminars and to and from Birmingham Airport.

The dates are: Sunday 11th March 1 - 6pm in Birmingham Thursday 15th March Birmingham - Krakow - Birmingham Tuesday 20th March 3 - 6.30 Birmingham

We have an exciting opportunity for sixth formers to get involved in the running of one of the largest businesses in our region. This is the first year of Bristol Water’s Youth Board which brings the views of young adults into the decision-making they do to plan their future operations.

We’re recruiting 20 individuals who live in the Bristol Water region to join the board, which will allow their voices to be heard at executive level and provide a unique opportunity for them to kick-start a career in the world of business.

How will your sixth formers benefit?

They will have real influence on the decisions made by senior management as well as: see inside the workings of a major business meet other like-minded sixth formers from around the region get a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship applications get a £100 reward for taking part.

What’s involved?

The Youth Board will attend board meetings on two occasions, Monday 29th January 2018 and Monday 19th March 2018, at Bristol Water’s headquarters in Bristol. The meetings will start at 10am so applicants need to be able to get to Bristol for this time. We will reimburse individuals for all travel expenses to board meetings. The meetings will finish at approximately 4pm and will include a mix of briefings from senior executives about the business and the challenges it faces, and facilitated problem-solving exercises.

The Youth Board will be given real issues to think about and will work in teams to come up with solutions. Between the two board meetings, members will prepare for team presentations at the second meeting, and also complete a number of online tasks.

Work Experience

We announce our Spring Term programmes are now available for booking online. Following multiple requests for us to expand outside London, we are pleased to say that three of our programmes - the Young Investment Banker, Young Lawyer, and Young Doctor programmes - will now be held in both Manchester and London. Our programmes provide 15-18 year-olds with live and interactive professional experiences in some of the UK's most sought-after industries.
