The Sutton Trust US Programme is a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore what studying in the US is like. It will give you a taste of what it's like being an international student in the US and help you see if it could be the right fit for you.

It's a fully-funded programme so we'll cover all costs, including travel, residential events, accommodation and food.

Eligible applicants must:  Currently be in Year 12 in England and Wales, S5 in Scotland or Year 13 in Northern Ireland  Attend, and have always attended, a state-funded school or college i.e. non-fee paying  Not hold US citizenship  Be from a low or middle income family (generally, this will mean a household earning £45,000 or less)  Be interested in US culture and higher education  Meet the Widening Participation Criteria. The more you meet the more likely you are to get a place on the programme.

As part of the application process, Applicants are required to complete five short essays, each with a word limit of 150 words and a video interview. This helps us to get to know you better. Full details of these can be found within the online application. You will also need a reference from a teacher at your current school as part of the application process.

‘Become a Paramedic’ Taster Event Saturday, 28 March 2020 at UWE This event is designed for college and A-Level students who are considering a career in the Ambulance Service. It provides an action-packed and interactive day where you can learn what a good University application looks like, how to do CPR and control haemorrhage, attend interactive discussions with SWASFT Paramedics and witness an exciting demonstration provided by the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

A full lunch, tea and coffee will also be provided.

Tickets cost £25 and students are welcome to bring one additional adult free of charge.

Health and Wellbeing Practitioner Taster Day We are delighted to launch our new BSc Health and Wellbeing Practitioner course with our Taster Day on Tuesday, 21st January.

Applications for 2020 entry are open and this exciting course has been developed in consultation with three NHS trusts to meet the increasing demand for NHS services and the need for a different type of Health and Wellbeing professional to work within the NHS. On our taster day, as well as meeting specialist active health and wellbeing practitioners, attendees will get hands-on experience by taking part in our Practical Health Checks in our labs, as well as by creating solutions for health and wellbeing problems.

We have 2 opportunities: Level 3 Apprentice Transport Technician

Level 3 Apprentice Technician - to join us on our award-winning programme in Bristol, starting in Summer/Autumn 2020.

As an Apprentice at Stantec, you will be part of an industry leading programme designed to develop the best Engineers. We will pair you with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor you through the initial phase of your career. You’ll be involved in the design and delivery of some of our projects from start to finish. We will teach you how to use programs such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) to produce drawings for building and infrastructure projects. You will learn technical skills such as civil engineering calculations and report writing.

No previous experience is required. You will be a positive and proactive team player who demonstrates enthusiasm for engineering and a willingness to apply yourself in a workplace environment.

Job description Groundworks apprenticeship will involve: working with groundworks operatives on a day to day basis

Assisting and carrying out groundworks tasks such as installation of roads, sewers, foundations, plot drainage and external works There will be a weekly day release for college at Trowbridge College, Wiltshire which will commence with the September 2020 intake, an allowance will be given for travel costs from Bristol.

Course Content - This qualification supports the learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge As an apprentice you will cover knowledge in three core subject areas: Health, safety and welfare Information, quantities and communication Understanding civil engineering technology The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in: Establish work area protection and safety – general construction Lay domestic drainage Place and finish non-specialist concrete The qualification requests the learner to demonstrate, in a real workplace environment, that you are competent against a set of performance statements. You are assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you through your programme of learning.

The Business Insight Week is just for students from Social Mobility backgrounds and coaching will be available to help students through the application process.

University of Oxford Access Scheme ‘UNIQ’ Applications open 2nd December and close 27th January UNIQ is open to students studying in their first year of further education, who are based at UK state schools/colleges. Students make a single application between December and January and can be selected to participate in one of two activities: UNIQ Digital or UNIQ Spring and Summer.

UNIQ Spring and Summer gives you a taste of the Oxford undergraduate student experience. You will live in an Oxford college for a week, attend lectures and seminars in your chosen subject area, and receive expert advice on the Oxford application and interview process. The timetable also allows plenty of time for social activities; in the evenings you are free to tour the city, sample some of the University's sports and cultural facilities, and let your hair down at the farewell party.

UNIQ Digital provides comprehensive information and guidance on the university admissions process, and aims to give you a realistic view of Oxford student life through videos, activities and quizzes. The platform offers a range of forums where you can discuss both academic and social topics. These forums are monitored by student ambassadors, who are always on hand to answer questions and offer support.

University of Bristol - International Affairs Society FREE EVENTS We are the university’s leading forum for debate and discussion of key international, political and economic issues. We host speaker-driven events focused on a broad range of pressing issues in current affairs, whether it be Brexit, inter-generational inequality, or race relations. Routes to policing to change in 2020 The College of Policing’s long-term strategy, known as Policing Vision 2025, will see the police service professionalised and will require all future police recruits to hold a degree at the point that they are confirmed in post.

There will be three entry paths to policing and these will be via: Apprenticeship – You can join as a constable, and follow an apprenticeship in professional policing practice. This usually takes three years and when you successfully finish the programme, you will complete your probation and achieve a degree.

Degree-holder entry – If you already have a degree (in any subject), you can join the force and follow a work-based programme, supported by off-the-job learning. This takes approximately two years, and you will receive a graduate diploma in professional policing after completing your probation.

Pre-join degree – You can carry out a three year degree in professional policing and then apply to a force and follow a shorter on-the-job training programme.

At the University of Law, the BSc Professional Policing degree will run at our Birmingham, Leeds and London campuses in 2020, and includes modules in: Forensic and criminal psychology Investigating serious crime Intelligence and digital policing Counter terrorism Cybercrime Both the Apprenticeship and the Pre-join degree take the same amount of time at 3 years. While the Pre-join degree is designed for students who wish to become a Police Constable, it also provides a foundation for further postgraduate study in a relevant area like Criminology as well as careers in the wider Security and Criminal Justice Sector.

Nuffield Research Placements Programme Applications Now Open !!

Online student applications for the Nuffield Research Placements programme 2019-20 are now open, and will close on Friday 31st January 2020.

Nuffield Research Placements have been running UK wide for over 20 years. They are for year 12 STEM students who meet the GCSE and bursary or first in family criteria, offering them the opportunity of a 4 week long research based work placement in the summer holidays of 2020.

Suitable students will be studying at least one STEM course, including Maths, Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Geography, Geology and Economics.

Successful students work alongside a professional researcher in a university, industry or government agency and are supported to carry out their own research project, write a scientific report and design a research poster, which they present at a mini conference in the autumn. All students are supported by the Nuffield Foundation with daily travel costs to and from placement. In addition eligible students will receive bursary payments of ÂŁ100 per week while on placement. Most placements are desk based, with a few being lab or field based. Please note that we do not offer clinically based placements.

You will gain skills useful for university applications, such as research, academic writing and data handling, as well as the softer work based skills such as independence, teamwork and organisation. These can all help you to achieve better results and look great on university or job applications.

The EDT will deal with the administration arrangements informing the student.



The company will interview the student and decide whether they want to offer a placement to the student. If they do the EDT will relay the offer to the Student.

Engineering Work Experience - MBDA—Bristol 2019 Work experience can be the first opportunity for you to try a career that you may not have considered previously, as well as give you a better view of opportunities available on our Early Careers Schemes.

You may be given tasks to complete which will require you to collate information whilst spending time in many different departments.

Please note Work Experience is available for a nominal period of 1 week between March and August. Applications are open to school year 11, 12 and 13 only. Initial applications should be submitted by the student and completed via the application form below.

Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute – for Year 13 The Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI) is a unique opportunity for Year 13 (ages 17-18) students to spend a month working as part of a research team alongside leading scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

As well as getting the chance to conduct real scientific experiments, students produce reports and present their findings to their peers before spending a week in a field school where you experience the diverse ecosystems, wildlife, and archaeology of the region.
