Dear Parents and Pupils,
Welcome to St Benedict’s ‘Find Your Future’ careers fair!
This is the largest single event the school undertakes, driven by the desire to inspire our pupils to use their unique talents as positively and powerfully as possible in the workplace and the wider world beyond St Benedict’s.
We have more than 120 organisations attending this evening, covering a huge range of careers and pathways. We are deeply grateful for the many parents taking time following a busy working day to provide advice and insight to our pupils: and are so very happy to welcome back so many Old Priorians, reinforcing the Benedictine community ethos of the school as returning former pupils. Thank you also to the organisations attending who either support our work in Futures at St Benedict’s, or are within the wider community of which the school is a part.
Over the last term, we have been working with pupils in PSHE lessons on how to approach this evening, on how to research in advance the different careers which might interest them and how to prepare for meaningful conversations with the various career representatives attending the fair.
Our three featured speakers promise lively insights around life beyond St Benedict’s. Kate Chacksfield will be talking on acing interviews. Maddie Cleat of Varsity Nine will be presenting on securing sports scholarships at American universities. Finley Marron, the youngest business representative at the fair, will be discussing the skills gained from starting up a business with one of his mentors, Dom Morrey. We are also offering ‘on the spot’ drop-in on-line appointments with three highly experienced careers advisers in the Sixth Form Centre, and will be allowing parents to ‘play’ with Unifrog, which is a key Futures tool available to all pupils in the senior school.
Finally, we are most especially grateful to our colleagues across the teaching departments of the school, who have as ever been both brilliant and supportive over the past few months of bringing this Find Your Future fair to life.
Very best wishes,
Sally Hopgood and Kathryn Norris
