Description
Short description Please provide a short summary/description of your project (1 paragraph-1000 char.)
Username-password - This project is about interculturality, inclusion and cultural heritage. People, who seemingly look different from us and have different cultures, have the same rights with us and we have to respect and embrace them. In the project, we embrace diversity in our schools! Our starting point is our pupils' nationalities, culture, habits and traditions. We set our project objectives, discuss the activities and get to know each other with Twinmails and our eTwinning profiles. We brainstorm about what interculturality is and make research on how intercultural is our school. We find ways to develop intercultural communication and and share our traditions and customs. We create collaborative products, like poems and videos, and play intercultural games. We learn each other’s traditional dances In the end, the students from different origins realize that they are part of a big family, where each member has their own features, customs and culture, but all members have a common ground: we all deserve respect.

Project description Pedagogical Innovation and Creativity Characters 2000 Please provide a description of your project (1 paragraph). Please describe the various pedagogical methods you have used with your pupils during the project work. (Examples; small group work, independent research by pupils, etc.) If your pupils are very young, please describe the methods you used to engage their interest in the project. The students work on groups. They get to know each other and write Twinmails in their Twin Profiles according to the first letter of their name. They get aware of how to use the Twinspace and of possible contents and activities in the Pages, that are created by the teachers. Then each school brainstorms, doing an independent research on what interculturalism is. Each team chooses freely the way of presenting the results (on white board, on posters, on digital mind maps, on digital posters) and share them in a padlet. A research follows about how intercultural is each school. They have intercultural christmas activities and discuss their ideas about the ways of cultivating intercultural dialogues in a shared document. The partners create a common video about intercultural communities, they create a common poem about interculturalism ia a shared document and have common activities in celebrating the Safer Internet Day 2018. Moreover, they taught each other their traditional dances and they danced others´dances too. To sum up, we used independent learning, work in small, large and international groups, inquiry-based learning and project-based learning.
Curricular integration 2.000 Please describe (in steps) how you tried to integrate the project into your existing curriculum. What competencies did you try to develop in your pupils during the project work? In this class I teach greek language, maths, environmental studies, art & new technologies. All these subjects were involved in this project. As for the language, the students had to express themselves, talk about their school & country.Because of their age,I had to translate their mails from greek to english. They first exchanged messages in their eTwinning profiles and Twinmails with their partners,to get to know each other. This way, they used their language skills. Then, they brainstormed about what interculturality is, so they developed analysis & synthesis skills. They created posters with their findings (creativity).Taking part in a research about how our school is intercultural helped them develop social skills(in Greece we have the course “Environmental Studies). In Christmas, they created cards and exchanged them (creativity & communication skills). They found a video in youtube about how we can develop communication between different cultures, which they watched with their partners, so all students shared their opinion in a collaborative document (meeting words). This helped them develop their communication &opinion sharing skills. This was enhanced by writing a collaborative poem about interculturalism. The students also created a collaborative video about respect &acceptance of different cultures. This way, they developed their creativity & ICT skills. For the Safer Internet Day, all partners created posters and played games about how to stay safe online(ICT,critical thinking& communication skills). They created a collaborative video about how to stay safe online and an eBook(synthesis skills). The students presented the project to their peers in our school onsite and uploaded all their work in the school webpage for dissemination. They also presented the results of their project to their parents at school. The project was also disseminated in Directorate of our region in Chania,in an event of the department of School Activities,by publishing an eBook in greek(public relation skills). Communication and exchange between partner schools 2.000 How did you organise the communication between you and your partners? What communication activities did you design for or with your pupils for sharing the work of each class on the themes of the Project
The communication between the teachers was done by the Teachers Bulletin, Twinmails, eTwinning Live mails and emails. The communication between the students was scheduled by the teachers in the beginning of the project and during the school year. The students communicated via Twinmails, TwinProfiles, Project Journal and padlets in the Twinspace pages. We chose Padlet because the students find it easy, interactive and attractive. They can also share pictures & videos there. Another way of communication was the research process, which was very appealing to the kids. The students also communicated online in meeting words web tool, to write their collaborative poem. Moreover, they exchanged cards by post. The communication between the teachers was in the Teachers’ Bulletin, but mainly with emails, because this way all members were informed about the activities instantly. Collaboration between partner schools 2.000 Collaboration activities go beyond communication. Please describe the work process of the project clearly outlining the division of work between you and your partner(s). Most importantly: In what aspects of the project did you and your partner(s) collaborate? In what activities did pupils collaborate and work together? Describe how the final products of the project were achieved by the pupils In the beginning of this project we,the teachers, had the whole plan of the project available, with the aims and the activities of it, in order to be aware of the whole process, keep the deadlines and have our students engaged to what they will have achieved by the end of it. This is why we had a timeline in hand. The pages in the Twinspace, even if they were pre-designed, were opened accordingly to the project schedule, so all partners are engaged to the plan. The students presented themselves, their school & country in videos, padlets & interactive tools, to have feedback. The students communicated in the beginning of the project Profile twinmails and then, they created posters, which they shared in padlets and “liked them or commented them. By the time the kids started studying interculturality and inclusion, the collaboration went far & beyond, because they created common poems, ebooks, presentations and videos.
Use of technology 2.000 Please describe how technology has been used to further the work of the project both by your partners and you, and by the pupils Technology was the main vehicle to accomplish this project. Twinspace was the platform to share the main units of the project. We used the Teachers Bulletin, the Project Journal, the Twinmails, Pages and emails. In the beginning of the project, we created a Page to help the students use the Twinspace. We created usernames and passwords for all the students. We also took advantage of a series of web tools that enhance the collaboration. Padlets, google docs, youtube channels, vimeo, Answergarden, Jigsawplanet, Thinglink, eMaze, Issuu and Google Forms, word clouds and mindmapping tools. There are many web tools we could have used more, but we selected the ones that our students are familiar with and improve collaboration.
Results, impact and documentation 2.000 What impact do you think this project has had upon your pupils and your work as a teacher? How did your school benefit from participating in this project? What do you regard as the most successful result of this project? Have you given links to all the documentation relating to the planning, progress and outcomes of the Project This project had a huge impact in my students because they dealt with a topic which is actually a human crisis, accepting the other who is different from us, in our countries and schools. The children became open minded and welcomed the idea of working with foreign people, children of other cultures and religions. Now, they talk about how their peers have different habits and customs. On the other hand, they realized how many things we have in common with them and how much we have to respect all humans. The impact of this project was presented to the students’ parents and the teachers and head teacher of our school. The students presented them what they had done and what they learned about interculturality. The parents were impressed about how young children , in the age of 7, know about interculturalism and respect. Our school has not many cultural differences, so it was crucial for them to get acquainted with this kind of topics. We tried to “open our school to different people and different cultures, and it
was quite successful. The collaborative poem, video and the learning of foreign traditional dances, as well as what the students said about what eTwinning is for them in the eBook and video, was the proof of that.
