A Message from Fr. Robert J. Murray, O.S.A., Ph.D. Dear St. Augustine Prep Community,

We have made significant strides in the implementation of the Prep’s five-year Strategic Plan, known as “We Carry the Fire.” Our goals remain ambitious, aligning with our objective to formulate and evaluate an extensive academic and co-curricular strategy. In pursuit of this goal, we continue to advance our Innovation and Experiential Learning Initiative. This initiative aims to blend Augustinian Values with practical experiences in areas such as entrepreneurship, business, and STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Math). The level of support received has been remarkable.

We are dedicated to the ongoing execution of the Facilities Master Plan, incorporating capital improvements, safety measures, and cutting-edge technological advancements in our buildings, classrooms, and learning areas. As part of this commitment, ongoing construction is underway for the E.L.I.T.E. Center, taking the place of the Study Commons in the Edith Favretto Scarpa Arts and Sciences Building, alongside plans for enhancements to our Athletic Facilities. Simultaneously, we’ve bolstered academic support and wellness resources for students by reinforcing the school’s Counseling and Student Services Department.

Throughout this academic year, we continue to implore the school community to reflect on our genuine dedication to respecting all individuals through the school’s Inclusion Initiative.

Furthermore, the Prep’s Environmental Sustainability Project is in its second year and continues to emphasize the fundamental values of responsible stewardship of the planet. This project aims to prioritize environmental education, emphasizing our reverence and nurturing of God’s creation.

St. Augustine Preparatory School is truly a remarkable community of many gifted and generous individuals. I invite you to enjoy the many stellar mission-related achievements accomplished during another successful fiscal year. Now, more than ever, the Prep is positioned for continued growth as we journey together with “One Mind and Heart Intent Upon God”.

A group of Young Alumni gathered at the Prep in the fall to celebrate the impact of the Hermits for Life Alumni Scholarship. The group is eager to continue the momentum.

In 2021, Nate Segal ’14 established the Richard L. Segal P’14 Memorial Scholarship to honor his father and provide a Prep Experience for a qualified student facing hardship. Soon thereafter, a group of young Hermits Alumni (James Baumgardner ’12, Ted Baumgardner ’09, Andrew Baumgardner ’11, , Sean O’Leary ’09, Mike O’Leary ’10, Mike McMenamin ’11, Bill McMenamin ’12, Pat McMenamin ’12, Ian Larson ’12, and Tommy Totoro ’12) coordinated their efforts and discussed establishing the Hermits for Life Alumni Scholarship. In a similar spirit of Mr. Segal’s desire to help others, the mission of the Hermits for Life Alumni Scholarship is the same – to provide a St. Augustine Prep education and experience for qualified students and remove the financial barrier for families.

Now, in 2023, the two funds have partnered together for an even greater impact!

HERMIT LEADERSHIP St. Augustine Prep’s upperclassmen are where tradition meets inspiration. As students progress through their time at the Prep, they learn of their pivotal role in upholding the legacy of servant leadership ingrained in the Hermit Brotherhood. They stand as beacons, guiding and shaping the path for their younger Hermit brothers by setting examples that exemplify the values and expectations they are expected to uphold upon graduation.

Building upon the strong foundation laid by alumni who came before them, the school’s ‘Hermit Leaders’ embody the essence of leadership. They have been inspired and guided by the strong example of past classes, carrying the torch of responsibility with a deep sense of respect. As the bearers of tradition and progress, they epitomize the qualities and standards expected of all Hermit Brothers to continue this legacy of servant leadership.
