Mendel was a 19th-century monk and scientist regarded as the father of genetics. This is the school’s most prestigious award. 2023 GREGOR MENDEL AWARD RECIPIENT MAYOR ANTHONY FANUCCI ’90 The 2023 Gregor Mendel Recipient, Anthony R. Fanucci ‘90, has lived a life rooted in the values of education, family, and service to others. Anthony’s life journey has been deeply rooted in the values of education, family, and unwavering dedication to serving others. His story is one of a proud product of Catholic Education, first at St. Mary’s of East Vineland and then a proud 1990 graduate of St. Augustine Prep. His personal values harmoniously align with the Core Values of St. Augustine Prep — Truth, Unity, and Love. Currently, Anthony is serving his second term as the Mayor of the City of Vineland, having been re-elected in November 2020. Prior to this role, he served as City Council President and was a two-term member of the Vineland Board of Education. Anthony’s commitment to public service extends beyond his city, as he also holds positions on the New Jersey Conference of Mayors Board of Directors and the Executive Board of the New Jersey League of Municipalities. In addition to his public service, Mr. Fanucci is the proprietor of A.R. Fanucci Insurance and A.R. Fanucci Real Estate. He is a proud member of esteemed organizations such as the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the National Association of Realtors, the Cumberland County Board of Realtors, and the Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce. Anthony’s dedication to community well-being is evident through his past involvement with the United Way Foundation Board. Throughout his illustrious career, Mayor Fanucci has been honored in numerous capacities, underscoring his outstanding contributions to the community. These 2023 GREGOR MENDEL MEDAL AWARD DINNER

accolades include the Spirit of Achievement Award from the Italian Cultural Foundation of South Jersey, the Teach Anti-Bullying Community Award, the Greater Vineland NAACP Unit 2115 Community Award, and the Cumberland County Guidance Center Mental Health Distinguished Community Leader Award. Anthony’s connection to St. Augustine Prep is a source of immense pride. He is a distinguished member of the Prep’s Hall of Fame and remains an active participant in the Hermits Alumni Network. Anthony has generously shared his time and wisdom by mentoring students and serving as a career counselor. During his student years at the Prep, Anthony was deeply involved, serving as a four-year member of the Student Government and participating on the school’s inaugural football team. His commitment to the school endures as he actively supports various philanthropic programs, with a special focus on the “Keep Them in Blazers” program. Central to Anthony’s life is his beloved family. He shares his life journey with his wife, Stacey, and their children, Vincenzo, Giavanna, and Adrianna. His dedication to family, community, and education serves as an inspiration to us all, and we are proud to honor Anthony R. Fanucci as the 2023 Gregor Mendel Recipient!
