George L. Smith State Park Natural beauty, lakeside camping and cozy cottages, highlight this secluded South Georgia retreat. Best known for the refurbished Parrish Mill and Pond; a combination gristmill, saw mill, covered bridge and dam built in 1880. A group shelter near the bridge is popular for family reunions and parties.

The Mill Pond beckons anglers and paddlers through thick stands of cypress and tupelo trees draped in Spanish moss. While on the water, nature enthusiasts encounter beaver dams, blue heron, white ibis and other wading birds.

Boat rentals with guided paddle trips available. Hikers can stretch their legs on seven miles of trails while searching for gopher tortoises, Georgia’s state reptile.

The Georgia Southern Golf Course at University Park Voted one of Golf Digest Magazine’s Best New Courses of 2014, this 18-hole championship course is a beautiful addition to the Georgia Southern campus.

Open to the public, the course features a full practice facility with driving range, practice greens and bunkers. Averitt Center for the Arts The grand focal point of Statesboro’s revitalized downtown. From the Main Gallery and the Emma Kelly Theater in a renovated bank and movie theater, the ACA now operates five repurposed buildings in the business district, including the Center for Performing Arts, the Whitaker Black Box Theater, the Rosengart Gallery Fine Art & Gifts, and the Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts.

Through sponsorships and donors the ACA raises the standard for Arts education encouraging cultural and artistic development for area youth and adults.

The ACA offers a performance series of renowned shows, Averitt STARs productions, youth dance and theater showcases, chorale and chamber orchestra.

TORMENTA FC Pros start here!

A storm of soccer enthusiasm has taken over since the Premier Development League (PDL) Soccer Team, TORMENTA FC (Spanish for storm), flew into Statesboro. The semi-professional level of soccer starts kicking it up May 2016 with seven home games at Georgia Southern’s Eagle Field soccer complex in Erk Russell Athletic Park. The season runs through mid-July with Eastern Conference playoff games in late July and August. Tickets are available online and at the gate. Georgia Southern University Georgia’s “large-scale, small-feel” University, Georgia Southern has over 20,000 full-time students and is the largest comprehensive center of higher education south of Atlanta. With a Division 1, bowl-winning football team, GS is considered a powerhouse in the Sun Belt athletic conference with 15 individual sports competition teams including baseball, basketball, and soccer.
