Dear Roadrunner Fans:

The athletic program at State Fair Community College is growing and with that growth comes wonderful new opportunities for student athletes. This season marks the first for many new sports at SFCC including, cross country, track and field, clay target shooting and esports.

These new programs, when added to our already successful basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, spirit squad and golf, create 14 teams on which incoming area high school (and transfer) athletes can now extend their play and hone their skills for the next level.

This past year, SFCC had two sports earn allacademic team honors for their grades. The softball and baseball programs made college history with this achievement and I commend the dedicated coaches and athletic staff for their commitment to academic excellence and their drive to push student athletes to compete in class and on the courts.

The SFCC athletic programs do more than extend athletic careers though. They connect the college to the community and build support from stakeholders. Our student athletes enrich the college experience for others and provide exposure to many cultures and backgrounds from all over. What’s more, our student athletes make the most of their learning experience at State Fair Community College by winning, not just on the field of play, but in the classroom as well.

Together, we can create the support system these talented young student athletes need to succeed and have the characterfirst mentality to reach this level of success consistently.

It is my hope that next year, we will have even more teams rise to this challenge and I am confident we can achieve this with the encouragement and support from all coaches, athletic staff, faculty, staff, parents and boosters.

This is why I wish to extend a big “thank you” to the businesses who show support for Roadrunner athletics through sponsorships and the Booster Club for its hard work providing much needed funds for equipment, gear and travel expenses. On behalf of the SFCC Board of Trustees, please accept

Dear Fans, Another athletic and academic year is upon us.

Our studentathletes, coaches, and staff members are ready to begin an action-packed fall season.

The men and women’s soccer programs, along with golf, are preparing to get our year off to a good start. Our women’s soccer team has earned a spot in the NJCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Preseason Rankings.

During the 2021-2022 year, SFCC has added several new sports to enhance the opportunity afforded to studentathletes to continue their academic and athletic careers both inside and outside our service area. We will debut men and women’s cross country, esports, clay target shooting, as well as men and women’s track and field. I am very excited about the additions to our athletic department and excited to see where they take us both now and in future.

All our athletic teams will once again face tough competition both outside and inside our region. I look forward to seeing all our student-athletes succeed inside their various venues of competition.

I am also very proud of the academic success of our student-athletes. Each year we continue to see an increase in the number of NJCAA Academic StudentAthlete Award winners. During the last academic year, our baseball and softball teams both earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. This was the first year that State Fair Community College had two teams earn this prestigious honor.

Our softball team earned the honor for the second consecutive year.

I believe the expectation is to win, however, the most important thing we must do in intercollegiate athletics is to retain and graduate our student-athletes.

We want to put forth our best effort, while competing and maintaining our academic standards.

SFCC History In September 1968, State Fair Community College opened its doors to 436 students. Located on land west of the Missouri State Fairgrounds, it had just one building – a 35,000-square-foot facility made of six modular units connected by a central hallway. This facility would become affectionately known as “Plywood U.” It wasn’t fancy, but to the staff, students and supporters, it was everything.

That day marked the culmination of more than three years of hard work by a group of dedicated Sedalia Jaycees who lobbied to bring higher education to the area.

On April 5, 1966, voters approved the creation of the Junior College District of Sedalia. On April 10, 1968, the college officially became State Fair Community College, the outcome of a “Name the College” contest won by Smith-Cotton High School senior Brenda Weathers.

From the beginning, SFCC’s leadership has been strong and progressive.

The founding president was Fred E. Davis, whose energy and thoughtfulness laid the groundwork and set the standard for putting students first. The Automotive Technology Building, the Charles E. Yeater Learning Center and the Marvin R. Fielding Technical Center were built under his watch, and an additional 113 acres were purchased for future growth.

In 2017, more than 13,758 students chose SFCC for credit and continuing education classes online and on campus in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, the Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, and Whiteman Air Force Base.

In 2018, SFCC celebrated 50 years of living its mission to “provide relevant and innovative learning experiences that successfully prepare students and enrich the intellectual, economic and cultural vitality of the communities it serves.”

This year, the college announced its new slogan “It’s about community,” recognizing its role in providing top-quality programming for certificateand degree-seeking students in the 14 county service region.

Athletic Program Mission Statement State Fair Community College embraces intercollegiate athletics as an educational experience that is an integral component of the academic mission. Through educational ideals learned both on and off the field of play, we instill in our student athletes the benefits of competition, sportsmanship, hard work, commitment and teamwork. Additionally the Athletic Department serves as a link between the college and the community. Academic success, community involvement and a dedication to excellence are all critical to the success of the program.

Administration and Staff Darren Pannier Darren Pannier begins his 22nd year at SFCC. He is the Athletic director, Physical Education program coordinator and Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center director.

Pannier has been instrumental in adding sports during his tenure - women’s soccer, softball, restart of men’s soccer and baseball, and co-ed golf. New this season are men and women’s cross country, track and field, clay target shooting, and eports.

Pannier is active on the regional and national levels in the National Junior College Athletic Association. He received the George E. Killian Award of Excellence from the NJCAA’s National Office Staff in 2017 for dedication to the organization’s ideals of volunteerism, achievement, service, leadership, and excellence.

For five years, Pannier was head basketball coach of the Lady Roadrunners and coached many All-American student-athletes. His teams ranked in the NJCAA polls for four seasons. For seven years he was assistant coach for the Lady Roadrunners.

Arnold completed her bachelor’s in Athletic Training with a minor in Health from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri in May 2018. She currently resides in Sedalia.

David Rohrbach

Rohrbach volunteered three seasons for the UCM Jennies Soccer team and assisted with keeping shot charts and tracking other statistical information.

Rohrbach graduated from Green Ridge High School in 2001 and resides in Green Ridge.

Kirstin Arnold

Kirstin Arnold is in her fourth year as the Athletic Trainer at State Fair Community College.

She is responsible for injury evaluations, treatment, and rehabilitation for all the student-athletes at SFCC. Arnold is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer.

Arnold is CPR certified by the American Heart Association.

She is certified in Kinesiotaping and has training in Psychological First Aid. She has completed a dry needling certification. Arnold also has a Graston Technique certification.

While an undergraduate student at Culver-Stockton College, Arnold totaled over 900 hours of experience as an athletic training student. She gained clinical experience and performed treatment and rehabilitation, while working with football, baseball, women’s soccer, women and men’s basketball, and men’s volleyball. She also worked in clinics and with high school athletes.

She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Missouri Athletic Trainers Association.

David Rohrbach has been an SFCC Athletics staff member for 12 years. He assists with athletics media relations, writes game stories and website content and has had articles published on the National Junior College Athletic Association website.

Rohrbach oversees compiling SFCC’s statistics and regularly assists with livestream broadcast play-byplay for Lady Roadrunners basketball and color commentary for Roadrunners basketball home games.

Rohrbach came to SFCC after completing his undergraduate studies in journalism and political science and graduate studies in physical education, exercise and sport science at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg. He worked almost three years as a student assistant in UCM’s Media Relations and assisted in game day operations for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball. He wrote season previews and editorials for media guides and updated statistics and records.

Kathy Rumsey Kathy Rumsey is in her second year as the Administrative Assistant for the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center and the SFCC Athletic Department.

She assists with all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the multipurpose center and athletic department.

Rumsey is in her 19th year working at SFCC. She started her career in the Student Services Office and later moved to the Admissions Office.

She enjoys watching her kids play sports and show livestock during her free time.

She and her husband Kyle reside in Smithton, Missouri and are the parents of Meredith, Harley, Carter, and Maverick. They also have one grandchild Peyton.

Pannier is active in the Sedalia community serving on the West Central Missouri Boys and Girls Club board, Sedalia Country Club board, and Sedalia School District Foundation committees.

Annually, he presents the Darla Pannier Most Valuable Player award for the women’s contest at the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game.

Pannier holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Central Methodist College and a master’s degree in Education Administration with an emphasis in Sports Management from the University of MissouriColumbia. He and his wife Sara have a son Brice and a daughter Kiser.

Clay Target Shooting Head Coach Sarah Manuel

Sarah Manuel is in her first season as the first Head Coach of the Clay Target Shooting Team at State Fair Community College.

Manuel serves as the Apprenticeship Coordinator at SFCC and brings an impressive resume in both high school and collegiate shooting sports to the program.

Manuel participated at the Missouri High School State Shoot for three years during her high school career as a member of the Kearney High School Trap Club, where Manuel also served as a Squad Leader for two years. She won two individual national championships at the Academics Integrity and Marksmanship National Championships in 2012 and 2013.

Manuel continued her shooting career with the University of Central Missouri Shooting Sports Club for two years. She helped her team to nine High Over-All Team Sponsored Shoots. Manuel earned ACUI (the Collegiate Shooting governing body) 16thplace in American Trap. Manuel also earned two Junior Olympic Invitations.

Manuel transferred to Missouri Valley College where she helped her team to an ACUI fifth place finish as a team in their division.

Cross Country Head Coach Brad Hagedorn

Brad Hagedorn is in his first season as the Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach at State Fair Community College.

Hagedorn brings considerable experience as a track and field coach at the high school level. He served as the head high school track coach at Smith Cotton High School, a position he held since 2006. He served as the assistant high school track coach from 1999 to 2005. He also previously served as the head high school girl’s track coach at Cameron High School from 1997-1999.

Coach Hagedorn has coached 61 academic all-state recipients since the award was instituted in 2016. He led his team to nine West Central Conference track and field championships. He helped Smith Cotton to a district runner-up finish in boys Class 4 track and field in 2008.

He coached a state championship girls Class 5 team in the 4x100 meter relay. Hagedorn has also coached a state champion in the girls Class 5 200 meter. In total, his student-athletes have earned 29 Class 4 or 5 track and field all-state performances and 56 team track meet championships during his time at Smith-Cotton

Coach Hagedorn earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Central Missouri State University in 1995. He also earned a master’s degree in Education with emphasis in Athletic Administration and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1997.

Cross Country Assistant Coaches Jason Cannon and Matt Clark

Jason Cannon is in his first year as an assistant coach for the State Fair Community College Track & Field and Cross Country programs.

Cannon has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Performance Enhancement Specialist for 10 years.

He has worked with athletes at all levels, including professional, collegiate, and high school.

Cannon has also coached basketball, baseball, and track and field at Green Ridge High School.

As a student-athlete, he earned All-Conference honors in basketball, football, golf, and track and field at Owensville High School.

Cannon earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of MissouriColumbia and a master of science degree from the University of Central Missouri.

Matt Clark is in his first season as an Assistant Cross Country Coach at State Fair Community College. Clark brings an impressive resume both as a professional and collegiate athlete, as well as college and high school coach to his position.

Clark currently coaches Track & Field and Cross Country at Smith Cotton High School. He has also coached at LaMonte High School and Buffalo High School. He spent four years as an assistant track and cross country coach at the University of Central Missouri. He holds a USA Track & Field level one and two certification.

After a standout high school career in cross country and track & field Clark continued his career at Missouri State University, where he was named All Missouri Valley three times, along with All Midwest Regional in 1995. He was a team captain in 1994 and 1995. Clark holds the school record in the 4 mile and was voted to the All-Decade Team 19902000 by the Missouri Valley Conference.

Clark also earned All-Conference Honors in the Missouri Valley Conference on the track in 1994 and 1995. He was part of a school record in the 4x1500 m relay.

Clark competed as a professional in the steeplechase and 5K run from 1995-1998. He also competed in the summer of 1995 and 1996 in Europe for Athletes in Action.

Clark holds a bachelor of science in Education in Exercise Science from Missouri State University.

Esports Head Coach Jacob Coleman

Jacob Coleman is in his first year as the esports Head Coach at State Fair Community College. Coleman brings 14 years of experience in esports that ranges from competing in events, hosting tournaments, and becoming a partnered Twitch.tv streamer.

Coleman has been trained in communication, leadership, game strategies, and optimization. Coleman also brings experience in the business world to his position at SFCC, along with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to be innovative and detail oriented.

Coleman comes to SFCC after serving as an area manager for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Harrisonville, where he managed, motivated, and developed more than 70 associates. Coleman began his work there in June 2017.

Coleman worked as a store manager at GameStop in Lumberton, North Carolina from January 2011 to January 2013. He operated the top performing store in growth every year, was a district manager in training, and the lead store manager in the district. Coleman hired, trained, and developed new talent and team members.

Coleman earned an Associate Degree in Biology from State Fair Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Belleville University in Belleville, Nebraska in Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Management.

From January 2009 to January 2011 Coleman served as a department manager for the Wal-Mart in Clinton, where he supervised 20 employees and operated multiple departments. Coleman managed and motivated a team.

Golf Head Coach Wayne Ogle

Wayne Ogle is in his third season as the Head Men and Women’s Golf Coach at State Fair Community College. Coach Ogle restarted the golf program in the fall of 2019. SFCC transitioned to National Junior College Athletic Association Division II in both men and women’s golf in the fall of 2020.

When the program was restarted, SFCC was a member of the National Collegiate Club Golf Association. During the fall season, sophomore Hayden Brogdon earned a spot in the National Collegiate Club Golf Association Fall National Championship. The spring season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ogle is a Certified PGA Professional who brought a lot of experience to his position. He served as the Head Golf Professional at the Sedalia Country Club from 2012 to 2014, where he managed and oversaw the daily operations of the golf department, tournament operations, ladies golf, and junior golf program.

He served as the Assistant Golf Professional and Tournament Director at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Missouri in 2011. He assisted the Director of Golf and the Head Professional with the day-to-day operations of the golf shop. Ogle also managed tournament operations and billing.

Ogle served as the Assistant Golf Professional at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Missouri from 2010 to 2011. He assisted the Director of Golf and the Head Golf Professional with the day-to-day operations of the golf shop.

Ogle is an accomplished player finishing tied for 47th in the 2019 Jamaica Open.

He also played and competed in multiple APT events in 2018 and 2019. He competed in the Web.com Tour, prequalifying in 2018.

Ogle is an Insurance Producer and Agency Owner beginning in 2014 to the present for Shelter Insurance in Sedalia Missouri. He completed the PGA Certified Profession program for General Management in 2019. He completed his Class A PGA Professional Apprenticeship program in the fall of 2011, and he was elected to membership in 2012. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree from SFCC in General Studies in 2006.

He was the Assistant Golf Professional at the Sedalia Country Club from 20062010. In this role, he assisted the Head Golf Professional with all aspects of the golf operation.

He shot an 89 in the opening round and followed that up with a 97. Killingsworth shot 86 in the final round of the event. Sophomore Tucker Williams shot an 87 in round one, a 98 in round two and 94 in the third round to finish 33rd.

Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran

Jaime Beltran enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Roadrunners soccer program.

Beltran will also lead the Lady Roadrunners this season, his fourth as the head coach of the program. During the 2020 season, which was moved to the spring of 2021, he led the men’s program to a 4-3-3 season and an appearance in the Region 16 tournament semifinal round.

The Lady Roadrunners had their best season in program history in the 2020 season, which was moved to the spring of 2021, finishing with a regular season record of 7-4. The program achieved its most wins in a season and most goals in a game en route to achieving the program’s highest national ranking. The Lady Roadrunners advanced to the Region 16 Tournament Semifinal round.

Beltran led the men’s team to a 9-6-2 record during the 2019 season.

He led the SFCC men’s team to an 8-10-1 record in his first season as the head coach.

The win total was double that of the first year of the program. He led the women’s team to a 4-12-2 record, which showed

Beltran came to Sedalia from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, where he spent the 2016 season as the head coach for the men and women’s soccer programs. He took over the program less than two weeks before the season began. The women’s team earned the first two official wins in program history. The men’s team tied the school record for wins in a season.

Prior to his time at Jarvis, from 2011-2016, he spent five years at Ranger College in Ranger, Texas, where he coached the men and women’s soccer teams. During the 2011 campaign, the men’s team won its first-ever game at the region tournament and made its first appearance in the region championship game. Beltran led his men’s team to a Region 5 runner-up finish. In 2013, he guided the team to a Region 5 Championship and a NJCAA Division I National Tournament appearance; both were firsts in the program’s history. He was named the NJCAA Division I Region 5 Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2013-14.

During the 2014 season, he led the men’s program to its best regular season in school history. The men’s team broke the program record for wins, recorded the program’s first-ever 10 win season, and went undefeated at home.

The women’s team went winless the year before Beltran’s arrival. Under his direction in 2011, they went 8-7 in his first season. The 2011 season was the first winning season for the women’s team. They broke the school record for number of wins in a season, number of region wins, most goals scored in a season, and the fewest number of goals allowed in the season.

Beltran led the men’s program to a 5-6-4 record in his second year at SFCC. The Roadrunners improved their winning percentage for the second year in a row. He guided the women’s program to a 6-9 record. They showed continued improvement over the previous season, finishing in the top spot of the regular season standings.

Coach Beltran cont’d...

The number of graduates went up throughout his tenure, from one in his first year to 19 in his final year.

Beltran also served as the assistant athletic director at Ranger, as well as technical director, where he created and maintained the athletic department website.

From 2008 to 2010, Beltran coached at the University of the Southwest, an NAIA university in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was the head men’s soccer coach during the 2008 and 2009 season. He led the women’s program during the 2009 season.

He also brings coaching experience from the club soccer level. He was a staff coach for the Gaston United Soccer Club in Gastonia, North Carolina from 2004-2006 and 2007-2008.

He served as the Director of Coaching for the Burke Soccer Association in Morganton, North Carolina from 2006-2007. He was responsible for coaching assignments, as well as management and direction of

the club coaching staff. He created and managed the structure and budgets for the club and teams. He also organized club wide tryouts and coached the “89 Boys” team.

Beltran also brings high school coaching experience to his position. He was the varsity boy’s head soccer coach at Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, New Mexico in the fall of 2010.

He was the Head Soccer Coach at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, North Carolina from 2004 to 2008.

He served as the boys’ varsity head coach for four years and the girls’ varsity head coach for three years.

Beltran has a United States Soccer Federation-National D Coaching License.

He received a bachelor’s in Psychology from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina in 1997.

Beltran and his wife Cherie have two children a daughter Emily and a son Eric.

Soccer Assistant Coach Roberto Tucker

Roberto Tucker is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners soccer program.

Tucker brings a wealth of experience as a player and a coach at all levels to his position.

During the 2020 season, which was moved to the spring of 2021, he helped the men’s program to a 4-3-3 season and an appearance in the Region 16 Tournament semifinal round.

Coach Tucker coached Inter City, a United Premier Soccer League Team from El Paso, Texas, a pro development league from 2019-2020. He also possesses a background in youth coaching. He coached the FC Dallas West U-15 and U-17 teams for six years from 2012 to 2018. Coach Tucker had a successful stint as a high school boys’ soccer coach at Cathedral High School in El Paso, Texas from 2002 through 2020. He led his team to a State Championship in 2002. He Led the El Paso Patriots, another professional team for five years from 19952000. In 1987, he began his coaching career at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he spent four years and led his team to a Men’s Soccer Club National Championship in 1989.
