“Don’t go far, ChiChi,” Momma Bird said.

“It’s a big world out there for a little bird like you!”

But ChiChi didn’t listen.

When Momma Bird wasn’t looking, she wandered off alone.

Twisting and turning through the tall, tall grass, ChiChi realized it really was a big world out here.

There’s so much to explore!

ChiChi came across an earthworm.

“Hello Mr. Worm!” She said.

But he only stared.

Then she came across a lady bug.

“Hello Lady Bug!” Said ChiChi. But she just kept walking.

ChiChi kept going until she found a great big calf.

“Hello Calf!” She said.

“Moooo....” Said the calf, but ChiChi couldn’t understand.

Then she found a little puppy.

“Hello Puppy!” Said ChiChi. “Woof woof!” Said the puppy, but he played a little too rough.

Farther and deeper ChiChi went, over fallen leaves and under heavy logs.

There, in the darkness, ChiChi saw two red eyes, watching her.

“H-hello...,” she said.

“Sssss...,” said the snake as he slithered out of the shadows. He opened his jaw wide, showing big, sharp fangs.

This was it for ChiChi.

But here came Momma Bird! She hopped up and kicked the snake in the face, sending him back in a daze.

The snake slithered back to his bush in defeat.

Momma Bird did not say anything to ChiChi. She was just glad ChiChi was okay
