Auction Art
PK – Pieces of Us
Inspired by LEONARDO DREWS’ work, each PK student brought some of their favorite small toys and had fun being creative by building this contemporary piece. Leaving a little piece of themselves, they created an abstract beauty. This art was mounted on an oak board, painted, and then covered with epoxy. Look closely - you never know what you will see.
Art Chairs: Danni and Brian MacMaster Size: 36” x 36”
Kindergarten – Brilliant Bonds
Four separate, sun-shaped, 3D metal sculptures were created to represent the individual kindergarten classes. Each little light of ours painted their own piece of metal in their coordinating class’s color. Signifying the unity of this grade, the metal pieces were bonded to create one cohesive art piece. As we rise and shine each day with our little ones, let this be a reminder of this energetic season of life. May you always remember STA’s night on the bayou with your own southern sunset at home. Hang vertically, horizontally, in a square, or however you like. The sun-lit sky’s the limit!
Art Chairs: Julee Bailey and Nicole Leucht Size: 16” diameter each
First Grade – Just Crabbing Around
Inspired by Gulf Coast artist, Walter Anderson, our first graders did an amazing job creating their very own take on the Blue Crab. We all have a unique attribute about ourselves to highlight. The students have done just that with this beautiful piece of art. These crabs express the colorful and bubbly personalities of each of our precious first graders. The children were guided to draw their very own version of the blue crab and then finished it off beautifully with watercolors. We showcased the best feature of each crab and completed the piece with a custom mat and frame.
Art Chairs: Jennfer Lonergan and Julie Eisenberg Special Thanks: Ms. Ann Stautz Size: 27” x 27”
Second Grade – Faith Unfolding
The spirit of this piece ties the craft of origami, which is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture, to the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. As the second graders prepare to receive this sacrament, they transformed mixed paper products to create a large, vibrant origami cross in this collaborative work of art. It is a beautiful representation of each child as they become people of our church, receiving the Eucharist for the first time.
Art Chairs: Emery Bastable, Julia Carpenter, Annie Grant, and Whitney Wagner Special Thanks: Lindsey Diaz and Ms. Ann Stautz Size: 36” x 48”
Third Grade – Circles Together
Since the beginning of time, circles have been symbolic of community and inclusion. Drawing inspiration from this powerful symbol, this year’s third grade art piece represents the coming together of a diverse and inclusive community. Our children had the opportunity to showcase their individuality through the creation of their own original watercolor paintings. Hand-painted in bright colors, the masterpieces were then cut into circles and arranged on an oversized wood panel, illustrating our students’ connection to the world around them and their place within it. This one-of-a-kind piece is truly a celebration of our amazing third graders!
Art Chairs: Kate Pienovi and Melissa Youngblood Size: 36” x 36”

Fourth Grade – Tessellations
Fourth graders at St. Thomas Aquinas are multi-faceted. They are figuring out who they are as people, finding their stride at the Upper School, and beginning to transition into the middle school years. This year for their art project, the fourth graders chose a color to represent them and used a sponge to paint a square of paper that color. They chose the pattern, density, coverage, and expression of their color. Once painted and dried, those squares were cut into hexagonal shapes and fit together like a puzzle in much the same way the kids themselves fit together. The final composition was poured with resin to a high shine.
Art Chair: Kristen Devlin | Contributors: Laura Baines, Corinne Fettig, Sarah Gantt, Stephanie Krahe, Taylor O’ Rourke, Monica Waddell, Dionne Rainey, Mary Reeh, and Wendy Skorburg
Size: 18” x 48”
Fifth Grade – Blue Dog Comes to the Big D
What does the Big D mean to you? This year’s fifth grade class gave input on their ideas of what represents the city of Dallas and helped cut out images provided to them. A replica of legendary Louisiana artist George Rodrique’s infamous Blue Dog was then hand-painted and surrounded by a collage that represents all things Dallas. The collage includes classic and modern icons such as Reunion Tower, The Perot Children’s Museum, Nick and Sam’s, Big Tex, The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, and many more! In the foreground of images is news print where you can catch a glimpse of references and small headlines near and dear to the hearts of Dallasites and articles about Dallas trailblazers. A remarkable story is embedded within this artwork’s pictures and text. This statement piece comes complete with an additional 8.5” x 11” artwork label with detailed names of each image.
Art Chair: Joan Leslie Size: 49” x 49”
Sixth Grade – Dance to the Beat of Your Own Drum
We all knew it was coming, but we had no idea how fast it would get here. It’s the day when our babies grow up and begin the process of changing into young adults. Middle school is marked by so many changes individually and socially. Our children are faced with new freedoms of expression and increased responsibilities in academics, as well as extracurricular and social activities. This transition introduces new challenges for both students and parents. We as parents have the greatest privilege of guiding them and reminding them that it’s okay to “Dance to the Beat of Their Own Drum” and be unique! The sixth grade students had fun coloring these jazz band instruments and expressing their individual styles. We shrunk them down from their original size to create a custom framed collage.
Art Chairs: Jennifer Lonergan and Lisa Nelson | Special Thanks: 6th grade teachers
Size: 24” x 24”
Seventh Grade – Sweet Magnolias
Our 7th grade “Sweet Magnolias” used the leaves of the prettiest tree in the south to create this ,-incredibly modern work of art, combining nature and medium to present a beautiful piece.
Art Chairs: Amanda Lang and Diana Nelson Size: 20” x 20”
Eighth Grade – God’s Fingerprint
Each fingerprint is unique and special in its own way, just like our children. God has a purpose for each and every one of us. A fingerprint helps us discover the identity of each individual. This artwork is a perfect reflection of God’s identity through scripture in our children’s eyes. As our children prepare for their next journey to high school, each one is leaving behind their fingerprint through God’s word. Each student listed their favorite bible verse, and they are written together to create the imprint of a fingerprint, “God’s Fingerprint.”
Art Chairs: Judy Macy, Gina Murphy, and Mary Shah Size: 42” x 30”
