And they’re racing Mark Sunday, December 8, in the diary because this year’s TAB Werribee Cup promises to be even bigger and better again.

Spendthrift Australia Park general manager Adam Wilkinson says the second Sunday in December is firmly fixed on the Country Racing Victoria calendar and, more importantly, in the minds of the Wyndham community.

“The Werribee Cup has a rich history, so a consistent date for the community is important,” Adam says. “We are striving to continue to grow and re-establish the Cup’s status as one of the leading Country Cups, as well as expand the biggest sporting event in the City of Wyndham.

“This is now the fifth year the Cup has run on this date and we are seeing considerable growth year on year.”

Although the racing takes centre stage, Werribee Cup day is great for family, friends and work colleagues to get together to hold Christmas parties, with loads of entertainment and a fun and friendly atmosphere assured.

“Bookings are already up on the same time as last year; however, we still have room with hospitality packages available – except for the sold-out Birdcage Cocktail Bar,” Adam continues. “There really is something for everyone on the day, children included.

“A new initiative launches this year, the Park Hotel Werribee Village, while the premier Diva Marquee is a cup day destination in its own right.

The Werribee Cup team is also excited to see Fashions on the Field back again after its resounding success last year.

“The event is supported this year by Pacific Werribee and Myer. This much-loved fashion fest brings even more colour to the day – and competitors make Wyndham proud with the sophisticated outfits we get to see.”

As always, the Werribee Cup is super family friendly. A host of kids’ activities include face-painting, jumping castles, Kelly sports activities and more. Children 17 and younger get free entry.

Fashion is on course for raceday flair Carole Levy When the Queen appeared in a recent photo with hands placed casually in her dress pockets, it created a huge online stir. Elizabeth II had broken with tradition, oh my. As Carole Levy reports, the same break with fashion ‘rules’ are being seen on racetracks, and this year’s Werribee Cup is likely to be no exception.

There will always, however, be a place for beautiful trackside fashion, with stunning frocks, suave suits, knockout shoes and gorgeously tailored millinery. Such sartorial effort is to be applauded and drooled over – and long may it last.

Raceday, after all, provides one of the few occasions to get dressed up to the nines these days, and those ‘nines’ will never be more evident than at the Fashions on the Field contest, this year sponsored by Pacific Werribee and Myer.

The hugely popular event will be hosted by racing personality Casey Bruce, well known for her many years of presenting racing occasions throughout the state. Interestingly, Casey is also a former jockey.

Judges will include representatives from fashion label Review, along with sponsors’ special guests. Participants need to register in front of the members grandstand, noon-1.15pm.

So, how has race fashion become more casual (and therefore likely easier on both budget and comfort)?

For starters, while a chic hat can be a thing of artistic beauty, it can also be expensive and stiff-breeze-intolerant. Fashion pundits are now saying that a gorgeous silk scarf knotted around a ponytail can be every bit as sophisticated. Puffy oversized velvet headbands and even bows are considered statements, too.

Pair your outfit with killer shoes that don’t kill you, and you’re good to go.

The frock? Bold solid colours, soft feminine lines, off-the-shoulder dresses, softly structured jumpsuits, mini to mid-calf hemlines seem to be on all the fashionistas radars this year. For the men, stylish separates are the go – and the styled up littlies will look gorgeous, no matter what.

Raceday fun is a walk in the Park Park Hotel Werribee has long been a keen supporter of the Werribee Cup and this year is no different.

Last year, it was all about the Park Hotel Pavilion but this time the hotel is sponsoring an entire “village�, defined by a grand arched entry to a picket-fenced area with the moniker of Park Hotel Werribee Village.

Marquees – suitable for up to 10 people – will dot the village which will be the hottest ticket around for young adults.

Live acoustic music will be from Soul Obsession, and there’s a village bar, and numerous food trucks – such as Flying Calamari Brothers and Wood-Fire Pizza – to feast from.

A wall will be set up as the backdrop for brag-photos, ready to post online and to send to friends and families as a reminder of just how fun life can be at the races.

The same buses that will transport Park Hotel patrons to the race course every 20 minutes will also stand by post-racing to take people back to Park Hotel’s amazing Werribee Cup Official After Party.

This unmissable event promises tunes on vinyl from a DJ and flat-out fun throughout the evening until late, along with great food, rockin’ cocktails and other drinks on offer.

The dynamic duo perform at weddings and other occasions throughout the western suburbs and have proven to be very popular.
