Werribee racing date that’s a real winner Mark Sunday, December 9, in the diary because this year’s TAB Werribee Cup promises to be the biggest and best family day of the year.

Spendthrift Australia Park general manager Ashley Baker says the second Sunday in December is firmly fixed on the Country Racing Victoria calendar and – more importantly in the minds of the Wyndham community “The Werribee Cup has a rich history, so a consistent date for community awareness is, we believe, vital to growing and re-establishing the Cup’s status as a leading country cup and sporting event,” Mr Baker says. “This is now the fourth year the Cup has run on this date.”

Although the racing takes centre stage, Werribee Cup day is great for family, friends and work colleagues to hold Christmas parties, so plentiful are entertainment and fun.

“Bookings are already up on previous years, with all hospitality packages sold out except a handful of tickets remaining in the Birdcage Cocktail Bar,” Mr Baker says. “There really is something for everyone on the day, children included.”

The all-new Birdcage Cocktail Bar will be the scene of much fun, while the 18 to 35 year olds can dance the night away to the tunes of renowned DJ Spacey Space in the Park Hotel Garden Pavilion.

The Diva Reserve on Marque Hill is a corporate area with prime elevated views of the racing. The marquees have their own bar, the same dining as enjoyed in the upstairs Committee Dining Room and full TAB access.

Mini-marquees and umbrella packages are being snapped up and food and beverage offerings are upgraded across the entire course.

“We’re also excited to see the return of Fashions on the Field,” Mr Baker says. “This much-loved event brings even more colour to the day and competitors make Werribee proud with their beautiful outfits.”

As always, the Werribee Cup is super family-friendly.

A host of kids’ activities include face-painting, jumping castles, Kelly sports activities and more. Children 17 and younger get free entry.

Cup favourite returns to Werribee With so few occasions for dressing to the nines these days, Werribee Cup gives everyone a chance to frock up and step out in showstopper headwear and shoes. The same goes for the men, who can wear a scene-stealing suit, and the littlies who can strut their own race day finery.

With this in mind, Werribee Cup Day welcomes back the hugely popular Fashions on the Field event.

Participants need to register between noon and 1.15pm in front of the members grandstand.

Fashions on the Field will be hosted by Kate Watts, racing.com and Werribee Cup Day ambassador. Kate will also be one of the judges, alongside two representatives each from Review and Lavanya Day Spa, each of whom are generous sponsors.

Expressing a “modern femininity” seems to be the go. Ideas include a primary-coloured suit with matching clutch; a ’60s shift-style dress with a boater hat; or a pleated skirt that swishes when you walk.

The hottest ticket in town for young adults has to be the Park Hotel Garden Pavilion at this year’s Werribee Cup.

The marquee, in a prime spot at the end of the home straight, will be the scene for flat-out fun.

Nor will the fun end at the track – a free bus will transfer party-goers to the Park Hotel’s exclusive after-Werribee Cup party.

But before that, there’ll be renowned DJ Spacey Space as the pavilion’s headline act, spinning house and techno. He will be supported by local acts Luke Boicos, Thomas Adams, Slaypax, Steve Stiv and Mario Pirrone.

The music will be on all day.

Patrons will have access to a private beer garden, and there’ll be the fun of lawn games and a photo wall. They’ll also get a free drink from the bar on arrival, while up for grabs will be a limited number of gift bags from the amazing Melbourne Lux & Co.

So who is Spacey Space?

Known as part man, part myth, Spacey Space has been an exuberant presence in the Melbourne dance music scene for more than 25 years. He’s perhaps best known for his epic Sunday DJ sets at Revolver Upstairs in a converted parachute factory in Prahran – but he performs all across Melbourne and Australia.

Establishing his name in the ’90s and with a penchant for taking risks, Spacey Space’s upward trajectory continued into the new millennium and shows no signs of slowing.

Signing with Suckmusic has him back in the studio with the production flame reignited, working on releases due in the new year.

While his career moves into the stratosphere, Spacey’s feet remain firmly planted on the ground.

Inspired not only by the music he plays but who he plays it to, Spacey fosters a mutual respect between DJ and dance floor that sees the people taking him higher as he sends them into space.
