Sports hub’s big tick

Macedon Ranges sports clubs, community groups and their supporters are rejoicing after the council endorsed the concept of a Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Hub. The council has vowed to seek funding for the $28 million hub to be built on the corner of Barringo and Hamilton roads New Gisborne.

It will combine the sports hub with the $14.2 New Gisborne Regional Sportsfields project, currently being planned for the same site, to form a new project known as the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct.

Hub campaigner Megan Condron told Star Weekly everyone behind the project was “so relieved” by the “really good outcome”.

She said the council’s decision last week embraced the collaborative effort of Macedon Ranges groups to achieve the sports hub and was a crucial step in seeing it built.

The community has pushed for a regional sports hub to be built in New Gisborne for more than two years to overcome a shortage of sports facilities.

The Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Hub Feasibility Study, released in February, was federally funded in response to a community campaign in 2016.

Ms Condron said Gisborne Bulldogs Basketball Club had turned away up to 20 players because of a lack of space.

The feasibility study highlights a shortage of indoor sports courts in the Macedon Ranges and predicts the deficit will rise to 16 courts by 2036 if no new courts are added to the existing eight.

It suggests the indoor sports hub be built across two stages at the New Gisborne site.

The council will consider funding $6 million of the $18 million needed for stage one of the hub and will seek funding of $6 million each from the state and federal governments.

Ms Condron said the community and the council needed to enthusiastically lobby for funding in the lead-up to the state and federal elections.

The council will work jointly with community groups involved in both the sports hub and sportsfields projects to secure funding.

Scoot on down to Lancefield Skate Park on Saturday for a free scooter event.

Run by Macedon Ranges council’s Music in the Sticks team and FreeZa, the Scoot-Fest will be open to scooter riders of all ages and abilities.

There will also be a barbecue, entertainment and prizes on offer. For $5, scooter riders will have the chance to learn new skills and challenge themselves in workshops led by globally renowned riders Dylan Morrison and Angus Varney.

A free community bus will transport participants from Kyneton, Gisborne and Woodend.

Bookings for the bus are essential.

Scoot-Fest will run from 10am-2pm.

Heritage overlay feedback call

The council is seeking community feedback on its proposal to apply the heritage overlay to the sites, including residences, public halls and railway bridges.

The proposal is based on recommendations made in the Gisborne and Kyneton Heritage Study 2017.

The study was conducted after a 2015 council assessment of unprotected sites of potential

Submissions about the amendment can be made at mrsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay before Wednesday, May 2.

The council has applied to Planning Minister Richard Wynne for interim heritage controls to be placed on the properties while the proposal receives feedback from the community.

A panel hearing on the council’s amendment has been scheduled for the week commencing July 23.

Call for dog only park

Macedon Ranges dog owners are calling for safe spaces to let their four-legged friends roam free.

An online petition has been created asking Macedon Ranges council and Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas to establish dedicated dog parks in the Macedon Ranges.

Dogs are already allowed to be off-lead in public in the Macedon Ranges, unless the area is signed otherwise, but the petition calls for the establishment of enclosed dog parks.

Petition organiser and Kyneton resident Andy Joachim said many dog owners did not feel comfortable letting their dogs off-lead in regular parks. He said enclosed runs were needed to allow dogs to safely run, play and socialise.

Mr Joachim said the closest dog park to the Macedon Ranges was in Sunbury, which was a 40-minute drive for Kyneton residents.

He has suggested vacant grassland in Campaspe Drive, Kyneton as the “perfect area” for a dog park.

The petition gained more than 90 signatories in its first three days last week.

“I have been wanting a dog park in this area for years! This would be a fabulous community development opportunity for council to build a space for dog owners to come together,” one signee wrote in the petition comments.

Another participant said a dog park would be a good recreation area for people without kids and those who had limited interest in sports facilities.

Kicking on for taekwondo gold Gisborne might have an up-and-coming taekwondo champion in six-year-old Qays Moiz. The Gisborne boy took out a gold medal at the Arnold Classic 2018 in the poomse, yellow-belt competition for boys aged six to eight. Qays performed a set pattern of moves in front of the scrutiny of five judges and an audience of hundreds of spectators. Qays’ coach, head instructor at Gisborne Taekwondo Glyn Thomas, said he was beyond impressed with his student. “If he keeps going he’s going to be a champion – there’s no doubt about it,” Thomas said. Thomas said the six-year-old remained “so relaxed” during his performance and picked up the form very well. Qays has been training in the martial art at Gisborne Taekwondo for a year. His mother, Rashida, said she was “definitely very proud” of her son.

A colourful parade of 100 classic cars will circle the Macedon Ranges this Saturday for the 15th annual GREAT Macedon Grand Tour.

Locals are being invited to watch the tour right from the “flag off” outside the Old Gisborne Courthouse at 9am.

The cars, which are all more than 25 years old, will be on display in Gisborne beforehand from 7.30am. Most of the vehicles will also be parked and available for viewing in Riddells Creek from 10.30-11.30am and in Malmsbury from 1.30-2.30pm.

Organiser David Ellis said Holden would be the featured marque at this year’s event to commiserate Holden halting production in Australia last year.

Collision charges

Joining the tour’s Holdens will be the event’s oldest vehicle – a 1929 Holden-bodied Chevrolet AC Sedan.

The tour will use the catering service of local community groups to take care of its 220 participants and help raise money for charities.

Gisborne Bowling Club, Riddells Creek Junior Mixed Basketball, Malmsbury CFA and Woodend RSL will feed the guests, while Riddells Creek Men’s Shed has made the event’s trophies.

A 21-year-old Sunbury man was charged with a number of offences, including careless driving, driving while suspended and driving an unsafe vehicle, after two cars collided in Bulla about 9.30am on March 25. It is alleged the driver of a red Holden ute travelling north on Bulla Road lost control, colliding with an oncoming car.

The Sunbury man has been bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates Court on June 14.

Traffic the big headache

By Serena Seyfort Hume residents have labelled traffic and parking management as the municipality’s biggest issues in the council’s Community Survey 2017-18.

Traffic and parking was the main concern identified in each ward, with the Jacksons Creek ward leading the way with the highest percentage of respondents, 44.9 per cent, prioritising the issue.

The ward, which contains the suburbs of Sunbury, Bulla and Oaklands Junction, gave

the council a mean score of 2.7 out of five for providing enough parking around shopping areas.

Lack of parking has been an enduring issue in the Sunbury CBD, with retailers attributing the lack of business to residents being unable to find a park nearby.

A score of 2.8 out of five was given by the Jacksons Creek Ward to the council for its management of urban growth.

Mayor Geoff Porter said the survey was “one of the best ways to get a deep insight” into residents’ needs.

“Residents want to see improvements in areas such as traffic and parking management and cleanliness,” Cr Porter said.

He said the results would be used “to guide and develop” the council’s plan and budget, which would be released in late April.

Community satisfaction with the council’s overall performance has increased over the past year. The council received a mean score of 3.7 out of five from respondents, up from 3.1 last year.

Jacksons Creek gave a score of 3.6 for the council’s overall performance.

Teens focus on mental health Hundreds of year 8 students from secondary schools across the Macedon Ranges came together last week to focus on youth mental health.

The teenagers launched the 2018 edition of Macedon Ranges council’s Life4Life program, which is aimed at increasing understanding, reducing stigma and improving mental health knowledge in the Macedon Ranges.

Students from Braemar College, Gisborne Secondary College, Kyneton Secondary College, Sacred Heart College and Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School (Bullengarook campus) will continue to learn about mental health throughout the 2018 school year.

Woodend train station revamp A major upgrade has started at Woodend station carpark to seal and mark 200 spaces, install new lighting, CCTV, footpaths and drainage.

The long-awaited work is being carried out as part of the state government’s Road and Rail Minor Works Program, following a community consultation session on the intended improvements in July last year.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas launched the start of the construction on March 23.

“Public transport is of incredible importance to the people of Woodend and these upgrades will make this busy station more accessible and safer,” she said.

Upgrades will include a pathway that directly connects the station and existing pedestrian railway crossing to Corinella Road, so that people no longer have to walk through the car parking area to get to Corinella Road.

The work is being carried out in two stages and is expected to be finished in June.

The carparks at Macedon and Clarkefield station are also due to get upgrades as part of the Road and Rail Minor Works Program, which is designed to make it quicker and easier for commuters to take the train.

Those upgrades are expected to be completed this year.

CONSIDER THE SAUCE Kenny Weir uncovers an Italian masterpiece The Harley & Rose dining room has a cosy, almost clubbish, vibe about it.

The place appears to have already earned places in the hearts of many, including West Footscrayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s young family demographic.

And, yes, there is a kids menu.

The Team CTS of four on hand can rise to the occasion of three-hour-plus meals.

But mostly weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re very much of the â&#x20AC;&#x153;bring us food and make it snappyâ&#x20AC;? school.

So we really appreciate the terrific service and the beautifully paced arrival of our various choices.

It could be said that Harley & Rose serves mostly orthodox Italian â&#x20AC;&#x201C; but that would be misleading.

For instead of bolognese or veal scaloppine or minestrone, there are wonderful surprises at almost every turn.

We share four starters.

Salami ($12), with caper berries on the side, has just the right perfume level of fennel.

Our other choices mostly display exactly the same levels of light and right.

They include Noix de Jambon with fresh fig ($15) and smoked ocean trout, Grand Marnier and horseradish ($16).

Though the crunchy/gooey gorgonzola dolce croquettes with quince ketchup ($9) certainly up the richness factor quite a bit.

For mains, for us, two pasta offerings and two pizzas.

Spaghetti cacio e pepe ($19) is profoundly simple, sinfully rich perfection â&#x20AC;&#x201C; just pasta,

From the short specials line-up, Bennie chooses rigatoni with a sticky tomato sauce including fermented chilli and pancetta ($18).

Loves it, he does, though its consumption concludes with a familiar refrain from him: â&#x20AC;&#x153;Wow â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that was bigger than it looked!â&#x20AC;?

If anything, perhaps our super dooper pizzas are the real high points of our eating evening.

Neapolitan ($20) with sweet pepper, tomato, anchovy, olives and oregano and and house sausage ($22) with pork sausage, fennel, tomato, eggplant and pecorino both exhibit great flavours.

Desserts? Oh, yes, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re definitely in that sort of mood. Tiramisu ($14) is a straight-up top-shelf rendition of a classic. Meringue with pink pepper melon and apple granita ($12) is amazing.

The blending of the poached meringue (a bit like a gooey marshmallow) with the cool pink cubes, crunchy granita and the all-important mint equals a taste explosion.

Youth and versatility the keys behind new-look Tigers Kyneton will be less predictable in the Bendigo Football League this year.

The loss of forwards Ben Weightman and Mitchell Scholard at the end of last season, has forced the Tigers to change their structure.

Weightman kicked 73 goals last season and Scholard 55, to place them both in the top four goalkickers in the competition.

Tigers’ coach Luke Beattie said those two departures would mean the team is more versatile up forward and he was hopeful it would reap benefits.

“With a turnover of personnel we will look a bit different,” he said.

“We’ve finished fifth the last three seasons

and this year we have the potential to be more creative with the footy.

“Instead of having key targets like Ben and Mitch, we’ll be more versatile.”

While the Tigers have also lost a number of other players, they’ve looked to add guys across the ground.

Jayden Exell will provide some experience in the back half, while Gareth Bowes will help the likes of Rhys Magin and the McGovan brothers in the midfield.

Jake Ward and Jack Exell will provide points of difference up forward.

Beattie said one of the most pleasing things this off season was the number of under-19 players coming through that could play key

roles.

Among them are Caleb Fisher and Leyton Chisholm, who are both part of the Bendigo Pioneers TAC Cup squad.

“The kids are coming through, which we haven’t had in recent years,” Beattie said.

“We’ve had one or two at a time. This year we’ve got a great bunch coming through.”

As well as having two players in the Pioneers squad, the Tigers have four VFL-listed players.

Max O’Sullivan is at Richmond, Tom O’Sullivan is at Port Melbourne, while Jordan Mangan and Patrick McCarthy are both with North Melbourne.

While Beattie would love to have all four at

his disposal every week, he’s thrilled they’ve got opportunities at higher levels.

The Tigers kick-off their season on April 14 at home against South Bendigo.

Beattie said it had been easier to get the team together in recent weeks and they had had “a remarkably structured and hard pre-season”.

He said fitness should not be an issue but admits it will take time to get going.

“We’re a work in progress.

“Playing consistent football might take a couple of weeks. Once we work through it, we’ll play some good football.”

Redbacks look to reload

By Tara Murray Romsey hopes to close the gap on the top sides in the Riddell District Football League.

The Redbacks finished fifth last season, knocked out in the elimination final against Riddell, after a strong first half to the season.

Redbacks coach Corey O’Sullivan said they know they need to keep stepping up if they are to put pressure on the top sides.

“We understand we’re a long way off,” he said.

“Riddell towled us up twice and we played Macedon once and they beat us.

“We have to take massive strides and we know they will be taking strides too.

“Riddell, Rupo, Diggers Rest and Macedon aren’t going anywhere.

“We know our best is capable of beating the best sides – we need to do it more consistently.”

The Redbacks will take a similar side into this year’s season, with little movement during the off season.

O’Sullivan said their key focus was re-signing the playing group they had.

“It was a major focus and we were able to do that,” he said.

“We’ve got some good juniors coming through even though we only have a small number of juniors.

“We’re going to work with what we have.”

He said they thought they had a good mix of young players with some experienced players around them.

Brayden Feltham won’t play because of work commitments, while 2013 Bowen medallist Darren Goodwin has retired.

His brother Matthew Goodwin has signed with the Redbacks.

Matthew, who was with Macedon, missed last season with a back injury.

Ricky Wood, who has come back to the club after spending the past few years in the Western Region Football League, is the other main inclusion for the Redbacks.

O’Sullivan said Wood was a player they wanted.

“He’s just turned 21 and is a good user of the football,” he said.

“He wins his own ball and adds pace.”

The Redbacks won’t have any time to ease into the season.

They face Diggers Rest, which finished third, under lights in round one on April 14.

They then take on last year’s runner-up Rupertswood in round two.

“It smacks us in the face straight away,” O’Sullivan said.

“We’ll find out where we need to improve early on.

“It’s the way you want it and if you want to play finals you have to play the best sides at some stage.”

While the Redbacks don’t start until April, six teams get their seasons under way this week.

Summer runs fast for Kahsay

Rupertswood in the Sunbury derby under lights on Saturday night, while Lancefield does battle with Woodend-Hesket on Sunday.

The netball match-ups are the same, with the exception of A-grade netball.

Riddell and Macedon will play each other as planned, while Rupertswood will face Woodend-Hesket, with both Lancefield and Sunbury Kangaroos not having A-grade teams this season.

It was another summer of success for athlete Elias Kahsay.

After a successful season the year before with Sunbury Little Athletics, Kahsay looked to progress and run faster.

He won a second straight 800-metre title at the Little Athletics Victoria State Championships, this year taking out the under-14 title.

As well as competing in the 800 metres, he added the 1500 metres to his program and finished second in the Little Athletic State Championships 1500 metres, taking almost five seconds off his personal best time.

“For me, this year was just trying it out to see how fast I can run the 1500 metres, so I didn’t really know what to expect,” he said. “But since I got a good time, I’m going to start working on it.”

He also won a second straight 800 metre title at the Athletics Victoria State Championships. Representing Keilor St Bernards and competing in the under-15 boys, he won in a personal best time of 2:07.38.

Kahsay said he thought this season was better than previous years as he was running quicker and that it was amazing to win back-to-back state titles.

On top of his state achievements, Kahsay competed at a second straight national championships.

Hoping to make an 800-metre final for a second straight year, he finished 12th, missing out on the final.

“It was an amazing experience once again,” he said. “But I realised that I really need to work a lot harder to get to the top level by increasing my training program.”

Cats add depth as they look to take the next step

Macedon has looked to strengthen its team after its disappointing exit from the Riddell District Netball League finals last season.

Having claimed the minor premiership, the Cats were knocked out of the finals in straight sets. They’ve since made a focus of adding more depth across the whole court.

Cats coach Ciara Stewart said they wanted to have different options available after being caught short last year.

Main goal attack Chloe Wilson was missing from both finals due to illness, and the Cats struggled to have their normal impact.

Stewart said the extra depth would also help when Victorian Netball League commitments meant players were on restrictions.

“Our lesson was learnt last year,” she said.

“We want every position filled with two or three players.

“We’ll have a good solid side no matter who is on the court.”

The Cats have looked to add some experienced players to the line-up. Former Diggers Rest coach Amy Carroll is the biggest signing.

The goaler shared last year’s Ryan Medal for the best player in the competition and has been a standout in her time in the competition.

Stewart said having Carroll was a huge win for the team.

Karlee De Bono, who played a few games last season, is now a permanent player while Tayissa Coppinger and Caitlyn Alifraco both come to the club with Victorian Netball League experience. Coppinger will add to the defensive end, while Alifraco will add another element to the midcourt.

Stewart said Chelsea Kemp, who was no longer playing VNL, had really matured and looked like taking her game to the next level.

She said there was a good atmosphere at the club, with all the new recruits settling in well.

Captain Jack shoots high

By Tara Murray You only have to listen to Jack Bytel talk about football for five minutes to understand why he was made co-captain of the Calder Cannons.

A star bottom-age player last season and part of the NAB AFL Academy for the past two years, Bytel has a resolve to not only take his football to the highest level, but also the games of his teammates.

Using what he’s learnt at the academy, which included a week training with Essendon, Bytel is keen to pass on that knowledge.

“The one thing I took from training with Essendon was how much they take the little stuff so serious,” he said before the Cannons season opener.

“I am a serious person and take everything serious. It’s about not dropping off when I came back here.

“I’ve spoken with Kytey [Ian Kyte] and it’s about bringing other players with me.

“As a leader … I want to help others get drafted. It’s not saying that I will get drafted, but I want to help others as well and kind of bring them along for the journey.”

Bytel is sharing the captaincy with close mate Mitchell Podhajski.

The Ascot Vale resident said he took a lot out of how Podhajski handled missing out on being drafted last year.

He’s hoping both can get on AFL lists at the end of this year.

The inside midfielder said his biggest strengths are his clearance work, versatility and his quick hands and said he didn’t feel out of place during his time at Essendon.

“It was more the backing it up each day and getting there at 8 each morning and leaving at 6pm … I was then falling asleep having dinner.

“It was about day by day and getting through it.

“All the footy stuff I was fine with.

“From under-10s, I was winning best and fairests basically every year, so I knew I was decent at footy.

“It was more under-15s, when I made the metro team and played the carnival and played really well and made the All Australian team … that’s when it clicked that it could be a pathway for me.”

Bytel will juggle playing with the Cannons, with the academy and hopefully Vic Metro commitments.

He has high hopes for the Cannons and is looking forward to playing at the higher level later in the year.

“Last year we had a more dominant bottom-age group which brought us through,” he said of the Cannons.

“We’ve got a [academy] camp coming up in April with a game against North Melbourne VFL, I think on the MCG. It’s one of the games I’m looking forward to.

“To see whether I can keep up with the big body mids.”

The Cats have lost just two players. Young goaler Tara Burnip has joined Woodend-Hesket, while Tayla Hardiman is taking the year off.

Stewart said with the added players it would give her more opportunity to coach from the sidelines and focus on other elements of the game.

“We’ve been training since December and then started back in January,” she said.

“Everyone has been playing for the Comets [weeknight team] on a Tuesday, which is another bonus.”

The Cats start their season on Saturday against Riddell. Sunbury Kangaroos and Rupertswood, Woodend-Hesket and Lancefield, Broadford and Wallan, Melton Centrals and Rockbank and Romsey and Diggers Rest round out the rest of the round one matches to be played over two weekends.

Sunbury Lions on the hunt for more success The Sunbury Lions are again expected to be among the hunted in the Ballarat Netball League this year.

Having claimed the A-grade premiership and with three other teams playing off in grand finals, the Lions were one of the standouts last season.

And Lions coach Adam Boldiston said the early signs showed they would again be a strong club.

He said many of those looking to join were locals, while a few players had recently moved to the area and were looking for a club.

“We had a lot of players turn out for selections,” he said.

“It’s the most players ever to turn out and we ended up having three try-outs.

There’s a lot more versatility across all the sides.”

Boldiston said they had kept together the core group which lost just one game across the A-grade season.

The only omissions are Monique Clark, who will play in the Riddell District Netball League, while star shooter Chloe Curran is likely to play the first few rounds before moving overseas.

The experienced Renee Hulls will help fill the void in goals. Hulls spent last season at Darley as their playing coach.

Hulls will also coach the Lions under-19 team.

Boldiston said they would also look to add another attacking option with plenty of options in defence.

In B-grade, the club is hopeful that Lauren Wishart and Nicole Elses will return from pregnancy and a knee injury respectively. Overall, Boldiston said they had more depth than they had last season.

“Last season I put out the challenge to them that I wanted all five teams to make finals,” he said.

“This year we’ve added depth to the under-19s with Renee coaching them and she can impart some knowledge on them.

“I think they can get some more wins on the board and play finals this year along with the other teams.”

Despite such high expectations on the club, Boldiston said the playing group was prepared for the challenge.

“The girls hate losing,” he said.

The Lions start their season on April 21 against Redan at Clarke Oval.

Velar is fashion with function

By Ewan Kennedy, Marque Motoring Land Rover has added another model to its already expansive range. The Range Rover Velar sits neatly in the gap between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

Velar debuts Range Rover’s latest Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, with two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens.

Naturally the Velar follows Range Rover’s long tradition of having a light, stiff, aluminium-intensive body. Keeping weight down not only gives even better off-road performance, but also makes it feel more agile around town and as a bonus it uses less fuel and creates fewer emissions.

Almost like a sleek station wagon rather than a 4WD, Range Rover Velar combines fashion and function beautifully. So clean are the lines that the Velar has a coefficient drag of just 0.32, some low slung sedans can’t manage this. A result of the sensible shape is the boot volume is 558 litres.

An interesting feature is the way the horizontal lines along the side are emphasised at various stages by cut outs, and even the door handle housings.

About the latter, all four door handles stick out from the side of the Velar as long as it’s unlocked. Looks a bit untidy to our eyes, but perhaps this feature is there to attract attention.

New Range Rover Velar is powered by a wide variety of engines; petrol and diesel; four or six cylinders; turbocharged or supercharged.

Our test Velar SE had a four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo-diesel. This comes in two levels of tune to provide132 kW or 177 kW of power. Ours had the 177 unit.

A V6 diesel has a huge 700 Nm of torque. A 280 kW supercharged V6 petrol engine enables the Velar to reach 100km/h in only 5.7 seconds.

Almost sleek in profile, the new Range Rover Velar combines fashion and function beautifully.

A sophisticated all-wheel drive system, class-leading ground clearance of 251 mm (213 mm in models with coil springs), and class-leading wading depth of 650 mm (600 mm with coil springs) show this is no pretty around-town pretend SUV. Traction technologies include Terrain Response 2, All Terrain Progress Control, Low Traction Launch, Hill Descent Control and

Gradient Release Control.

The Velar debuts the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. This has two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens. The upper touchscreen’s menu is divided into three panels for navigation, media and phone.

Interaction is similar to that when you use a tablet or a smartphone: swiping across the screen to change between menus, pinching

to zoom in and out, and with pressing and scrolling across the screen to pan across maps.

The lower touchscreen is integrated within the centre console and manages features including the climate control and Terrain Response functions.

The touchscreens are complemented by two rotary controllers that are configurable to enable them to perform several functions, for example adjusting cabin air temperature, massage seat settings or the Terrain Response mode. And much more. If you decide to take a Velar for a test drive may we suggest you allow at least an hour to let the experts run through the systems with you? There’s just one old-fashioned dial in the system. That’s to control the volume on the audio system. Which makes a lot of sense as it’s arguably the most used of all controls in all vehicles.

Advanced driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist, the latter lets you have the Velar drive itself at very slow speeds in heavy traffic conditions – but don’t forget you’re still in charge so never take your eyes from what is happening.

Active and passive safety systems are to the highest standard and it will be difficult to get into a crash even you want to. And should one sill occur the Velar will do everything it can to protect all occupants.

Fuel consumption from the smallish diesel typically ran in the seven to eight litres per hundred kilometres on motorways and easy country runs, rising to a still reasonable nine to 12 litres per hundred.

Range Rover Velar has an excellent combination of style, practicality and performance and we suspect many people will buy if for its looks - both inside and out.
