Seagulls celebrate flag By Lance Jenkinson Williamstown is awash in blue and gold as it celebrates a sweet 16th VFA/VFL premiership. The Seagulls routed Box Hill Hawks by 54 points in a lopsided VFL grand final at Etihad Stadium on Sunday to claim their first flag since 2003. But this was one of the Seagulls’ greatest premiership triumphs, as Williamstown is a stand-alone club in a competition filled with AFL-aligned heavyweights. The Seagulls proved you don’t have to be a

full-time footballer to succeed at this level, but you do need to put in the hard work long after clocking off from your day job. Seagulls coach Andy Collins praised the playing squad for the sacrifices they had made since the start of preseason. “I just love them; they’re a really good group,” he told Star Weekly. “It’s a real credit to the guys that they also work hard away from the footy club.” Williamstown is the second stand-alone club to win the VFL premiership in five years, following in the footsteps of rivals
