World’s best on the table A Sunshine West table tennis facility will soon be serving up the world’s best players. Loops Table Tennis has just been made Australia’s first national training centre, making it the country’s premier table tennis facility. Owner Simon Gerada said it’s reward for hard work. “Three times a week the national team will train here. That means the Commonwealth Games team and the Olympic team will be training here,” he said. “We’ll also have international training camps and guests coming in and using the facility. The world’s best will be here.” The accreditation caps off a busy time for Loops, which has two major tournaments this week. The Melbourne Open will be held from January 26-27 and is open for players of all ages and skill levels. The club will also host the National Hopes championships which will feature 30 of the country’s best junior players from January 21-25. The event serves as a pathway to world level competitions. Mr Gerada said it’s a good opportunity for locals to see a high level tournament in their own backyard. DANIEL

In October last year, the complainant lodged an application with the Principal Councillor Conduct Registrar to have the matter dealt with by a panel. The document states that newly elected mayor Lucinda Congreve called a meeting on November 22 to see if an agreement could be reached to avoid a panel hearing. The meeting ended when she determined “it was obvious that nothing further could be achieved by continuing”. Cr Hedditch declined to comment.
“I’m all for transparency, but there’s a due process that needs to be followed and adhered to,” he said. The panel hearing is expected to be heard over several days. If the panel finds the councillor guilty of serious misconduct, it can apply a range of sanctions, including suspension for up to six months. The panel may also refer the matter to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on appeal only.

A former Brimbank mayor has been accused of bullying and serious misconduct. Cr John Hedditch is expected to front a councillor conduct panel hearing in Sunshine this week. The hearing is the result of complaints made by a fellow councillor about Cr Hedditch’s conduct during his time as mayor and as a councillor. Cr Hedditch was elected to represent Harvester ward in 2016 in the first council
elections since administrators were appointed to Brimbank. He served as the new council’s first mayor. Star Weekly has obtained a document that alleges Cr Hedditch failed to declare a conflict of interest and exhibited aggressive and bullying behavior towards councillors and staff. The complainant alleges the conflicts of interest involved “many millions of dollars’ worth of council decisions”. Star Weekly has been told the hearing follows failed internal reconciliation attempts. 1182408-CG18-15
