Graffiti hit is a fine mess A woman whose Sunshine West business was vandalised with graffiti has been told she may be the one to face fines from Brimbank council if it is not removed within two weeks. The Medical Corner owner Dr Margaret Vo said the fence of her Glengala Road business was branded with graffiti on January 12. She said council told her she will face a fine of $800 if she does not remove the graffiti by January 26.

Dr Vo said it would be an “extreme struggle” for her to find time to paint over the graffiti between patient consultations.
Compounding the problem for Dr Vo is the fact the January 26 deadline coincides with the Lunar New Year, a time in her culture where “tidying is not supposed to be done”. She has criticised Brimbank council’s handling of the situation. “Brimbank council has been useless at preventing graffiti attacks and then penalising the landlord for no reason, it is no fault of their own,” Dr Vo said. “I have been offered an $80 Paint Spot voucher but this is not even automatic. I have been put on hold 15 minutes multiple times

and then finally told to email two different parties to see if I qualify for a voucher.” Acting infrastructure and city services director Tom Razmovski said council could not comment on Dr Vo’s situation, however it encouraged all businesses in Brimbank to keep their premise clean and tidy. “Council endeavours to remove graffiti that is accessible from the footpath in and around business and public areas,” he said. “Officers may have asked the proprietor to clean up the graffiti, but we understand they aren’t the ones that have caused the damage.”
