CALD populations can cover a number of definitions, including a person’s country of birth, their ancestry, where their parents were born, what language or languages they speak andtheirreligiousaffiliation. The AIHW paper highlighted that linked data provided the opportunity to explore the health outcomes and service use using a combination of CALD variables. However, the AIHW paper also showed that a number of factors influenced the health of CALD populations, making it difficult to consistently capture a snapshot of the needs of CALD bi-cultural-work-programDetails:communities.www.cohealth.org.au/get-involved/

Renters shiver through winter

By Matthew Sims West Footscray renter Carol, who has requested her surname to not be published, has lived in the same rental property for more than 10 years and has struggled with keeping the property warm during winter. A single mum living with a chronic lung disease and raising two children, the eldest of which is in year 12, she said the conditions she and her family have had to live in have been “getting worse and worse”. Having a heater in every room and purchasing extra bedding, Carol said her power bill was still “eye-wateringly high”.

“It just me very upset that my landlord is able to look after him and his family,” she said. “We’re second-rate citizens. “You just have to suck it up.”

Time-twisting theatre

“I still can’t heat my home well,” she said. Carol participated in Better Renting’s Winter Renter Researchers project, which tracked winter temperatures in the homes of more than 70 participants across the country using smart thermometers which track temperature and humidity at one-minute intervals, with participants also contributing qualitative data through surveys, phone interviews, webinars, and digital chat groups.

Better Renting’s Cold and Costly report indicated that there needed to be better government standards to allow for retrofits to rental properties, such as installing ceiling insulation, window treatments and more efficient reverse-cycle heating systems. From a prince looking to kill his father to claim the throne to characters searching for love through time and space, Western Edge Youth Arts’ newest work is a unique beast as it combines the work of three Edge Ensembles theatre groups. The Footscray, Wyndham and St Albans ensembles are combining their separate works which they developed for 15 weeks to create ‘Distortion’, a story combining time travel and curses to tell a story of power and greed.

The study showed that despite the World Health Organisation [WHO] recommending 18 degrees Celsisus as the minimum healthy indoor temperature, temperatures fell below this mark for more than 17 hours a day across the surveyed households. Carol said her situation often made her feel “deep rage and disappointment” at the government’s standards and the power imbalance between landlords and tenants.

Maribyrnong targets air quality

Hospital admissions for breathing and lung-related illness for young people aged between 3 and 19 are 70 per cent above the Victorian average. A number of the short-term actions outlined in the report involved the council advocating to the state and federal governments, with outlined actions including advocating to the state government to ban all diesel trucks (except delivery trucks) from residential streets and advocating to the federal government to ban all diesel and petrol vehicle sales by 2030.

Williamstown’s Church of Spiritual Enlightenment has celebrated 50 years of history supporting people through their spiritualLaunchedlives.in 1972, the church has helped members realise their spiritual potential, including providing clairvoyant support, weekly healings, teaching and development circles, as well as hosting a number of workshops and guest speakers.

“It’s an emergency situation,“ he said. However, Mr Wurt said the group hoped to receive further reports about the form and results of any advocacy work.

Maribyrnong Truck Action Group [MTAG] president Martin Wurt said the group has welcomed the plan’s analysis of the current impacts on air quality and its outline of advocacy actions.

We are hoping to see a dedicated headspace office established in our municipality –currently, the closest office is in Sunshine. We’ve also been liaising with the state government following the release of the landmark Royal Commission Report into Victoria’s mental health system, which outlines changes to create a future mental health and wellbeing system that provides holistic treatment, care and support for all Victorians.Council is providing input to support the development and roll-out of additional services within our region (with youth mental health being one of the top priorities) as part of the implementation of the report recommendations.Therehasalsobeen work at a federal level, with council formally writing to the Health and Aged Care Minister Mark Butler to advocate for better access to youth mental health support services for our community.

While these are notable achievements and milestones, there is still a lot to be done in this space – but together with our partners, I am confident that we as a community are becoming better equipped to serve our young people especially during times when their resilience might be tested.

By Cr Anthony Tran One of my passions as a councillor, and now mayor, is to advocate for better access to mental health and wellbeing support for young people in the inner west. Council resolved on my notice of motion in February to ensure the first steps would be taken towards this becoming a reality. In the months since, I am pleased to report on the significant amount of work we have carried out in this space.

Another important milestone was the decision by LeadWest (an advisory committee to councils in Melbourne’s west) to declare youth mental health as a regional advocacy priority.Celia Haddock, the chief executive of Maribyrnong council, and I also met with the chief executive of headspace to advocate for more locally-based services.

Mental health is a top priority

Tristan Hearne, 41, was due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 17, charged with seven offences after human remains were stolen from mausoleums at Footscray General Cemetery in Yarraville. The body parts were stolen from graves between January 28 and February 1, with detectives later uncovering them at a Footscray property. Doctors push for fourth vaccine

“A whole bunch of people haven’t had their third jab at all, many of them are coming in positive now,” he said. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued a provisional determination to Moderna and Pfizer to start approvals for an Omicron-specific vaccine earlier this year. Dr Haikerwal acknowledged the development of a new vaccine was not cause for people to delay their vaccination, as the new version wouldn’t be available until at least the end of the year.

“It’s a long time to go without the maximum available protection, which you can get now, from your GP or pharmacist or vaccination centre, for free,” Mr Carter said. Western Public Health Unit acting director Dr Charles Alpren said vaccination was the best defence against becoming severely unwell with“WithCOVID-19.lotsofvirus still circulating in our community, we are urging Victorians not to delay getting their fourth dose. “The best vaccine is the one you can get now.”

By Olivia Condous Residents from across the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne are delaying their fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, according to health professionals working in the area. Doctors have reported that some patients are putting off receiving the vaccine as they have heard that a better version, which is more targeted toward the dominant Omicron strain, is in development. vaccineHealthprofessionalshavesaidwhileanotherisontheway, itwon’tbeavailablein

As a survivor of child sexual exploitation in sport, Dr Pankowiak said she was committed to advocating for the development of safer sport“Asenvironments.researchers,we want this to be a critical first step in both measuring the extent of violence experience in community sport and enhancing the effectiveness of the work in preventing this violence,” she said. “Ultimately, we want to ensure that violence against children does not negate the many health and well-being benefits of participating in community sport.”

Summing up Kia Niro hybrid is an exceptional vehicle in many ways, it has minimal fuel consumption if driven correctly and is still pretty economical if push hard. It’s attractively styled and practical. Combined with that very impressive warranty it’s certainly one to be added to list of under consideration in its class.

Gators lose best-of-three semi final Altona Gators have lost their best-of-three semi finals series 2-0 against the Pakenham Warriors in the Big V men’s division 2. The Gators played the game in Pakenham on Saturday night, which playing coach Jordan Lino said the team knew would be “hard slog uphill”.Bythe end of the first quarter the Gators were down by 15 points, 22-7, but fought until the end to finish 76-65. “We’ve been to their place before and last time we were there the crowd was a major factor in spurring their team forward,” Lino said.“We knew it was going to be a hard slog but we were up for the challenge. “Unfortunately when we got there, the first quarter didn’t really go our way. “We just couldn’t buy a bucket, and it felt like every single time they touched the ball, the ball would go in.” He said it was Gators players Dut Dut and Jovan Bojanic who helped pull the team out of their early game slump, the top scorers making 15 and 16 points each respectively. Thomas Georgiadis and Samson Rocker also made double figures. “[Dut] loves the physical contact, he loves the aggressive game style, the fast-paced game and I think he was a very good spurt of energy when we really needed him to pull us out of the first quarter,” Lino said. “[Bojanic] did really well on the offensive end, making his trademark, mid-range elbow shots. He really drew out the defenders and allowed some of the other players to attack the ring when we needed.

“Welostsixgamesinthelasttwoyears. This is two years in the making.” Wilkosz said they were trying to keep calm on the side lines when the Redbacks were hitting back. He said it was captain Jess Rarity, who really stepped up when needed. She could be playing at a higher level if she wanted to. “If we go up, she’ll still play at the same level.”Rarity finished with 18 points, while Sharna Appleby top scored with 28 points. The Gators will now face the Mornington Breakers in a best-of-three grand final series. The Breakers won the last match between the two teams in earlier in the finals. Wilkosz said they had a score to settle in the best-of-three grand final series. “They are the only team we haven’t beaten this year,” he said. “It’s an important game one at home this coming week. They’re such an impressive team on paper, we have to beat them on the court.”With the first game on their home court, Wilkosz said this was a chance to give back to the people at Altona who do a lot of hard work behind the scenes. “Last year was our first year back in the competition since 2017 when we went 0-20 and didn’t come close to winning a game,” he said. “We’ve come a long way and other people are involved as much as the achievement0 on the “Thecourt.youth girls have finished their season and Randy [Shanklin] is still at every training. Two years of hard work has paid off with the Altona Gators women’s side through to the Big V division 2 grand final series. Having been on top of the ladder last season when it ended early due to COVID-19, the Gators were on a mission this year to go back and do it all again. On Sunday, they ticked another box making it through to the grand final. The Gators were able to hold off the RMIT Redbacks, winning 73-67. Gators coach Cameron Wilkosz said it was a relief to have finally made the grand final. It was the fourth time the two sides have faced off, with this the second thriller. “It was a classic finals game and there were momentum swings throughout,’’ he said. “We got out to a lead and they fought back and they got a lead on us. “We got a classic finals game. We deserve to be in the grand final.

Parkside didn’t fire a shot in its semi final loss to Point Cook Centrals in the Western Region Football League division 2 on Saturday. Centrals entered the match as favourites having not lost this season, but the Magpies took plenty of confidence into the game after a good couple of weeks. It’s a game that the Magpies quickly want to forget as they lost 16.9 (105)-5.11 (41). They kicked just one goal in the first half. Magpies coach Chris Muratore said it was a disappointing day overall and was at a loss to explain what happened. “We didn’t fire a shot to be honest,” he said. “It’s it performance to put to bed and forget about.“We had some good meetings through the week and we thought we were ready to go, but Point Cook Centrals lifted the bar and we didn’t go with them.” Muratore said with no football finals for the past two years, it was a bit of a reality check of what was needed in finals. He said they thought they had enough experienced players in the side that would be able to step up when needed, but it didn’t happen on game day.
