Chic canine Bruce looks rather fetching in his doggy dress-ups. The two year-old Frenchie, who is owned by Werribee couple Helen and Brad, is participating in Petember. The charity campaign is asking animals and their humans to attire themselves for weekly costume challenges, to raise money for Variety – the Children’s Charity. Funds raised during Petember will help Variety provide assistance dogs for children with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, anxiety and epilepsy. It can cost up to $40,000 to train one assistance dog. Helen said that Bruce did not mind wearing costumes as “he knows he gets treats”. The photogenic pup, who has more than 3400 followers on his @ monsieurbrucealmighty Instagram account, has one ear smaller than the other. Bruce has already helped Helen and Brad to raise more than $1000 for Petember. Helen said she was running $4 Fridays during which she asks people to donate $4 to Bruce’s campaign. “Every dollar counts, it doesn’t matter if you donate $1 or $100, so many people know someone, or are affected by, things like autism and anxiety,” she said.

Bowser bill blues bite Wyndham motorists have questioned why they were paying more than the rest of Melbourne for unleaded fuel last week. Data from fuel price monitoring apps and websites, such as PetrolSpy Australia and the RACV Fuel Tracker Map, shows that the cost of unleaded fuel at many Wyndham outlets was between 20 to 30 cents higher than elsewhere in the state for most of last week. Last Wednesday the average unleaded
fuel price in Melbourne was $1.45 per litre. However, several stations in Wyndham were charging between $1.48 to $1.53 per litre. Five Werribee outlets were charging between $1.53 to $1.58 per litre and seven outlets were charging up to $1.63 per litre. Many residents described the situation as an “absolute rip off” on social media. Parul wrote that petrol in Footscray, where he works, was “way more cheaper than here in Wyndham”. Steve commented: “A few weeks ago, I filled
a full tank at Little River. Cost me $70. If I had filled here in Werribee it would have been just on $100. That’s a huge difference.” Michelle said: “I had to go to Altona for business – petrol in Werribee was $1.75 and Altona was $1.43 – guess where I filled up.” Several people commented that they often see cheaper petrol in Geelong and always check a petrol price app before filling up. RACV’s head of communications and engagement, Andrew Scannell, said Wyndham’s fuel prices were determined by a
range of reasons, such as levels of competition in different suburbs, wholesale prices, taxes and other factors. “Wyndham and regional prices don’t always change at the same time as the Melbourne or metro prices which is what can cause fluctuations or differences between locations because they are not in the same pricing cycle,” Mr Scannell said. “RACV suggests consumers shop around for the best deal on fuel by using the Fuel Tracker on the RACV website, or in the arevo app.”
