Mask rules relaxed By Esther Lauaki and The Age

Dog days Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve in Cairnlea will soon include an enclosed off-leash dog park. Brimbank mayor Ranka Rasic said council wants feedback from community members, visitors and dog owners about the concept design for the fully-fenced off-leash dog park within the reserve. “These upgrades will create an attractive and inviting place for dog lovers in our community to enjoy plenty of open space and improved facilities, all while getting fit and healthy,” Cr Rasic said. Once completed, the fully-fenced dog park will include a large run-about area, natural rummaging areas, dry creek and sand pit, separate spaces for old and shy dogs, a drinking fountain with dog bowl, double gated entries, dog waste dispensers, bins and signage. Other elements will include agility equipment, new pathways, seating, landscaping and plenty of tree planting for biodiversity and shade. “The upgraded park is planned for completion later in 2021 giving people more reason to get outdoors and enjoy some fun in the park with their pets,” Cr Rasic said. “This is an exciting project for the local area … your input … will help us make sure we deliver an outstanding dog park.” Details: bit.ly/2Vq26wd Esther Lauaki 12468826-SN45-20

Masks are no longer mandatory at Brimbank’s restaurants, cafes, pubs or offices as the state loosens more restrictions in its moves towards a ‘COVID normal’ Christmas. On Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews announced that masks would only be required on public transport, in rideshares or taxis, and some retail settings such as indoor shopping centres, supermarkets, department stores and indoor markets. The moves come after Victoria recorded 38 days of no new cases. Victorians are still required to carry masks at all times, despite there being fewer settings where they were mandatory. “Large, big crowds, people you do not know or [where] nobody has used a QR code, there is a need or requirement to continue to wear face masks in those settings,” Mr Andrews said. “It is important if there is a case or an outbreak, it will make the job of contact tracing easier, not easy, but easier. It makes sense to hang onto mandatory masks in those settings.“ Masks would also no longer be necessary during hairdressing, beauty or personal care appointments. The no standing rule in hospitality venues has been removed and dance floors have reopened with a one person per four square metre rule in place. Brimbank residents can look forward to bigger private gatherings at homes with 30 people now allowed per day, up from 15. Outdoor gatherings have increased to 100. Larger venues such as libraries will now operate with one person per two square metres, while gyms and indoor sport venues will operate with one person per four square metres as long as patrons are monitored by staff or COVID marshalls. Caps on the number of people able to attend funerals and weddings have also been replaced with a one-person-per-two-square-metre rule.
