It’s spooky and kooky

Manor Lakes residents Andrew Price and Maria Lodola-Price are again gearing up for a spook-tacular Halloween. Each year, the husband and wife decorate their house for Halloween and invite neighbours to attend a special viewing event to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. However the pandemic means fundraising efforts this year have taken a different direction. The couple will host an online house decorating contest, Amazing Race competition, family costume and pet costume contest and colouring competition. The Manor Lakes Estate will donate $50 for every entry received into some of the costume and decorating categories. Ms Lodola-Price said they were hoping to raise at least $1000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation this year. “Lots of local businesses have donated prizes, I think it’s amazing, even though many have probably been negatively-impacted at this time,” she said. Metro lockdown lifted By Goya Dmytryshchak and Laura Michell Melburnians are today celebrating after the end of a 16-week lockdown, with cafes, restaurants and pubs to reopen but some limits on household visits remain. Victoria on Tuesday recorded no new cases of coronavirus or deaths for the second consecutive day since June 9. There were 14 active cases of COVID-19 in Wyndham as of Monday, out of a total 2265 since the pandemic began.
Premier Daniel Andrews said under the third step, from 11.59pm on Tuesday, Melbourne would move from “stay home” to “stay safe”, with no more restrictions on reasons to leave home. However, the 25-kilometre travel limit from home and restrictions on travelling between Melbourne and regional Victoria remain. Two adults and their dependant children will be able to visit another household, with only one “visiting event” permitted each day. Visits must occur within the 25-kilometre limit until at least November 8.
Cafes, restaurants and pubs can reopen with outdoor caps of 50 patrons and indoor limits of 20. Beauty and personal care services can resume and outdoor contact sport for those aged 18 and under will also be permitted, along with non-contact sport for adults. Personal training, fitness and dance classes are allowed outside with up to 10 people, and up to 50 people are allowed at outdoor pools. Mr Andrews said up to 20 people would be allowed for outdoor religious ceremonies and up to 10 inside.
Weddings can have 10 people, and funerals 20. “From 8 November, and if we can continue driving case numbers down, the 25 kilometre limit will come off and Melbourne will be able to meet regional Victoria at the same level,” Mr Andrews said. Mr Andrews said he would provide an update on Sunday, November 8 on the timelines and thresholds for taking the last step. He said today should be a “period of pride and optimism that we have defeated this second wave”.
