Local officials and community leaders visited the Operation Border Health Preparedness Operation site at Veterans Middle School in Rio Grande City. The operation brings much needed free health services to our communities. More than 100 members of our community have received free medical health services every day.

On behalf of County of Starr Judge Eloy Vera we would like to commend and thank all of the participants who made this operation possible.

As the City of Rio Grande City prepares for the upcoming Fiscal Budget Adoption, the newly appointed Pay Scale Committee met with staff from different RGC Departments to discuss current pay rates and how to make improvements moving forward. City employees were able to voice their opinions directly to City Commissioners Ediel Barrera and Rogerio Olivarez as well as Interim City Manager Gilberto Milan. Items for consideration included levels of experience, longevity, cost of living, and merit.

Medina Electric Cooperative Receives Small Community Library Advocate of the Year Award

The Small Community Library Round Table, a unit of the Texas Library Association (TLA) comprised of library directors and librarians from small community libraries across the state, presented their Library Advocate of the Year Award to Medina Electric Cooperative at the TLA Annual Conference in April.

Medina Electric Cooperative has long supported small rural libraries through its Community Empowerment Program (CEP).

Grants are awarded for capital projects that support community and economic development in any of the 17 counties served

by Medina EC, which include Atascosa, Brooks, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, Frio, Jim Hogg, Kinney, LaSalle, McMullen, Medina, Real, Starr, Uvalde, Webb, Zapata and Zavala.
