Vale to true Warwick icon Brilliant and compassionate, Graham Buchner devoted most of his life to serving the Warwick community. Mr Buchner passed away last week at age 81. He leaves a legacy as a local icon whose name will be remembered in every part of his beloved city. Full tribute – page 5
Name street, not building Eyes on gold
Southern Downs Regional Council may have opened community consultation for the naming of the new radio station in Victoria Park, but members of Rose City FM aren’t so keen on naming the building. They do, however, have thoughts on how to honour a beloved local in a different way. John Moulder, President of Rose City FM, says the road leading up to the new building, which is currently unnamed, could be named in honour of community hero, Graham Buchner, who sadly passed away earlier this week. Tony Q and Nick Lelay are all smiles because, after a one-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup Campdraft is set to make its way back as the lead event in the Southern Downs. Read more on page 5
More border pain Border residents were once more dealt a blow over the weekend when their border passes were unexpectedly cancelled. Residents with the post code 2476 received a text stating that their address indicated they were in Kyogle Council and as a result their
passes were no longer valid. While border residents were not in a restricted area, the oversight caused chaos at the border on Saturday. Many residents did not receive the text due to poor mobile coverage, and arrived at the border without realising their passes had been
deemed invalid overnight. Multiple residents reportedly phoned Queensland Health. One resident says he has never seen Killarney people so angry about how those living on the New South Wales side of town are being treated.
“People are being so supportive,” he says. While residents reported last week that they felt ‘othered’ in town, the resident we spoke to says he knows their hands are tied when it comes to the bubble. Full report – page 4
