Vax is back Darling Downs Health has returned to provide doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the Warwick Showgrounds. The clinic will be open on Thursday 23 September and Friday 24 September from 7.30am to 6.30pm, and on Saturday 25 September from 7.30am to 1pm. The clinic is providing second dose vaccinations to people who attended the clinic in August, as well as first doses to locals. Full report – Page 3

Iconic parade set to return

Southern Downs Regional Council is calling on local businesses and community organisations to be part of Warwick’s iconic annual street parade by entering a float or even a decorated bicycle or two, promising big cash prizes are up for grabs. The iconic parade will take place on Saturday 30 October. The 2021 Warwick Rodeo Street Parade promises some exciting new inclusions guaranteed to make this the ‘must-do’ familyfriendly event on the October calendar. Full report – Page 10

A record number of Southern Downs residents celebrated becoming Australian citizens last week, pledging their loyalty and commitment to the nation at Warwick Town Hall on Wednesday 15 September. Bernadette Hartnett (pictured) met her husband-to-be, from Warwick, while visiting Australia. She said life is so good here, the final step for her was becoming an Australian citizen. Trees of change will be replaced with planter boxes “to freshen up the streetscape”. The spokesperson stated that they want to retain the CBD’s iconic tree-lined streetscape, however did state that “if successful, the current trial could ... possibly be rolled out further”. The trees were removed in part due to

the roots damaging footpaths and the street. SDRC Chief Executive Officer, Dave Burges, stated that “the trees were not in the best of health, they had some disease“. He stated that damage caused by the trees to Warwick CBD streets is very evident. “So we chose those four, we didn’t consult

with community because we had to do it, and we tried to minimise the impact by doing just four at this stage.” The CEO stated that they will be engaging with the community for feedback on the planter boxes before rolling out anything further. Full story – Page 3
