Celtic festival The Southern Downs and Granite Belt are abuzz with excitement over a new local event and celebration of “all things Celtic”. CelticFest – a joint initiative of the Warwick Caledonian Society, Inverness Highland Dance Studio, and the Warwick Thistle Pipe Band – is set take place from 25 to 27 March next year. Organisers are already in the midst of planning day two of the festival, Saturday 26 March, which will be held at the Warwick Showgrounds. They are also working with local businesses and groups to develop satellite events across the region on Friday 25 March and Sunday 27 March. Full report - Page 3

Southern Downs locals had an opportunity to share coffee with a cop on Sunday 15 August, as Warwick Police launched Road Safety Week at Australiana Park. Officer in Charge of the Warwick Road Policing Unit Dominic Cremasco said if he could share one message with road users this week, it would be that road safety is everybody’s responsibility. The Warwick clinic is set to vaccinate a good portion of the community, after more than 1500 locals got their jab at the clinic held in Stanthorpe. A Darling Downs Health spokesperson stated that “Darling Downs Health’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Stanthorpe last week was one in a series of clinics we have held and are continuing to hold throughout the communities we serve”. The Warwick vaccine clinic will be held from Tuesday 24 to Saturday 28 August at the showgrounds. Full story - Page 3
Saleyards boost der the federal government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants program. They also agreed the council would contribute a minimum of $3 million towards the project. A report tabled at the meeting stated the proposed redevelopment works at the saleyards would include cattle pens, amenities, canteen and administration office, as well as
car and truck parking and internal roadworks. “The improvement to the Saleyards facility will assist (the) council in attracting more business to the Saleyards, thus driving regional economic growth and assisting with the creation of new jobs through construction and ongoing operations,” read the report. Chief executive officer Dave Burges said
a preliminary design for the redevelopment would be completed by the end of the month, in time for the application to be submitted to the federal government. At that time, he said the Saleyards Advisory Committee will be consulted and the community informed. Full story - Page 4
