“We went through all the entries and there was one family that stood out to us. Despite being laid off from work and having to support her family with three children, this lady wanted to share her hamper with another family who also has been unable to work due to Covid. “Her kindness and friendship to share her hamper with another family was what stood out for me.“ After talking to Chloe and Alexa, Lan decided Chloe’s Dumplings would double the hamper value to $100 to allow for both families to benefit.
“The girls and I spent the afternoon at the supermarket picking out foods for the families,“ Lan said. Chloe and Alexa helped choose food for the hamper, which included their favourite chocolate, popcorn, muesli bars and fruit, as well as some of their famous home made dumplings. “We love food, we love cooking and love to bring food into people’s lives,” Lan said. “We saw everyone struggling this time around during lockdown and reached out and offered some support.”

A small home-based dumpling business in Officer has generously helped a struggling family during the lockdown with a food hamper. Lan Hughes set up ’Chloe’s Dumplings’ during lockdown last year, as a fun activity and side-hustle with her daughters Chloe and Alexa. Seeing the business grow since then, Lan and the girls decided they wanted to do their part to help the community during lockdown 4.0. “We saw neighbours looking defeated and
feeling a bit down and thought there must be so many other people out there in the same boat,” Lan said. “So we thought we’d reach out to help the community.” Chloe and Alexa shared a video to the business’s Facebook page, letting everyone know that they would give away a $50 food voucher for someone in need. “It was not easy to select one family to give this hamper to as everyone was deserving of some help to get them through this week,” Lan said.
