Huge motel plan By Jess Baker A huge new accommodation development has been approved for Stanthorpe’s CBD, with construction expected to create and support local trades and businesses. An application from John Kearney to develop a 24-unit motel at 2 Rich Street was ap-

proved by Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) at an ordinary meeting held Wednesday 14 April. The development is expected to accommodate 62 guests in four styles of units, as well as a manager’s residence, office and 30 car parking spaces for guests and management. Two submissions, both objecting to the

proposed development, were received by SDRC officers and noted in the April ordinary meeting. Both submissions cited stormwater drainage issues at the site and an expected loss of amenity due to high population density as grounds for objection. All Southern Downs councillors voted in fa-

vour of the development and it was approved subject to a number of conditions, including the provision of a Stormwater Management Plan. Applicant Mr Kearney said the issues raised in the objections received for the site will be investigated and taken into consideration. Story page 3
