Ban for the birds

By Derek Schlennstedt There are some experiences synonymous with the Dandenong Ranges and feeding birds at Grants Picnic ground is one of them.

In its formative years, children, parents and tourists would flock to Grants Picnic Ground to feed the colourful rosellas and king parrots that called it home.

In recent years flocks of Sulphur-crested cockatoos have pushed the rosellas away, and the cockatoos have drawn the ire of residents due to their insatiable appetite for verandas.

Those residents may soon get what they want with Parks Victoria announcing that they are seeking new tenants to take over from February 2020 onwards.

As part of the new lease the bird feeding site will be banned.

The popular tourist destination receives around 750,000 visits every year and is currently the only place within Parks Victoria managed land that still offers bird feeding.

Victoria Purdue, Parks Victoria District Manager for the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Ranges said the lease includes the opportunity to 'repurpose the existing bird feeding area, as bird feeding will no longer be permitted from February 2020.'

She said the decision was made in line with conservation best practices.

"The removal of bird feeding in February 2020 presents a new opportunity and we are excited to see what immersive and innovative concepts the market responds with for Grants," Ms Purdue said.

"Set amongst majestic Mountain Ash, sclerophyll forest landscapes, Tree Ferns and Lyrebirds, the lease site holds great opportunities for the next 21 years."

While residents have raised concerns that the current cockatoos will substitute the lack of food by attacking properties, Parks Victoria stated that a report provided by an independent wildlife consultant showed that no adverse impacts would be expected from the removal of artificial feeding.

"This, coupled with the potential risks posed to bird health as well as visitor safety has led to the decision not to permit wild bird feeding under a new lease."

Grants Picnic Ground is now open via expressions of interest.

Have your say on laws

By Derek Schlennstedt The council is undertaking a once-in-a-decade review of its General Provisions Local Law, which has over 150 rules covering everything from street parties and charity bins to management of bees and wasps.

Residents will have the opportunity to have their say on new laws which also cover areas including how many dogs or cat you can have, drones, abandoned care and whether you can keep a rooster or galah.

Every 5-10 years Council reviews the lo-

cal laws to ensure they remain relevant to the changing needs of our municipality and represent the community as a whole.

This year the review is a chance for residents to provide feedback on what local laws they feel need to be reformed to accommodate new community trends and expectations.

"We really want to simplify and make it readable so people can understand it, and ensure that it's applicable today," Yarra Ranges Mayor Tony Stevenson said.

What we want and what we value are hav-

ing good neighbours, peole who live wlela nd work well together and that's the ultimate aim.

"Sometimes there is a lack of clarity about what are the community standards what are the community values, how should we all live well and easily together."

While residents can raise their concerns and make suggestions online, a number of pop-up events will also be held around the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.

These pop-up event will take place on 23 march at the Mooroolbark Festival, 28 March

at Lilydale Market Place, 29 March at Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, 30 March at Seville Shopping Precinct, 6 April at Kallista Market, 7 April at the Adventure Dog Event, 10 March at the Yarra Glen Shopping Precinct, 13 April at the Warburton Market, 14 April at Belgrave Big Dreams Market, 2 May at Mt Evelyn Shopping Precinct, and 3 May at Healesville Shopping Precinct.

The little fern film festival

By Derek Schlennstedt A group of 20 Mount Dandenong Primary School students will be showcasing their original short films at the inaugural Little Fern Film Festival on Friday 22 March.

The Little Fern Filmmakers was the dream of Grade 6 student, Rory McCluskey, who wanted to run a film making club at school.

"One of the first films I ever saw has a group of kids in it making their own movies, and I just wanted to do that myself," the grade 6 student said.

"When I was in Prep I said that I wanted to be a filmmaker, but I knew I couldn't do it by myself.

"So I asked my mum and dad for help, put in some good words with our Principal and a movie club was born.

"I was expecting about five kids but we now have 17."

The club has met once a month for a year, developing scripts, characters and sets for three original live action short films.

Those three original live action films will now feature as part of the Little Fern festival, along with others.

The club has also produced over ten stop motion animations using plasticine and Lego.

No expense has been spared in the set-up of the festival, and Rory said it will be just like the Cannes film festival - complete with red carpet.

"We will have a red carpet," he said enthusiastically.

"We will show three short films made by students at Mt Dandenong Primary School and over ten mini animations.

"We will have food and drinks with the help of our Possum Cafe and our Enviroknights, who are supplying the popcorn, and between you and me there will be awards for our filmmakers, too."

Little Fern Film Festival is screening on Friday 22 March from 6.30pm - 9pm at Mt Dandenong Primary.

The films will be shown under the stars on the school oval, weather permitting.

IT’S NONE OF OUR BUSINESS BUT‌ The toilet tree Tecoma's hard rubbish elevated to new heights on March 4 when residents recognised the contribution of some modern art.

A post on the Hills and Dandenong's Facebook page shows a toilet which has been daintily placed onto a tree in Tecoma.

Pictures of the elusive toilet tree were posted on the Hills and Dandenong's Facebook Page which immediately attracted attention from residents.

Not much is known about the rare and elusive toilet tree and it seems its origin remains unknown.

Kangaroo helped

kangaroo during the Bunyip State Park bushfires.

Lieutenant Craig Williamson at Montrose CFA told the Mail a resident approached the Montrose Tanker crew while they were patrolling at the Bunyip Fires asking what to do with injured wildlife.

He said the crew found the kangaroo at the end of a fallen burnt out tree, snorting, black and with a dodgy eye.

"Volunteers ended up giving him about 6 bottles of water, then notified parks Vic wildlife," Mr Williamson said "The crew spent about 15 minutes with him first time round, came back an hour later and he had perked up heaps."

Parks Victoria has announced that bird feeding at Grants Picnic Ground will be banned form February 2020 onwards, but has anyone told the birds?

Protect a platypus

By Derek Schlennstedt The future of an isolated group of platypus in Monbulk Creek hangs in the balance.

Melbourne Water, environment group Cesar, and Belgrave Platypus have been monitoring a small, isolated pocket of platypus living in Monbulk Creek that are at a high risk of being lost.

In a recent survey conducted in early March two healthy female platypus were located in Monbulk Creek and although this latest count suggests numbers are slowly increasing, Josh Griffiths, Senior Wildlife platypus Ecologist at Cesar said there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure the full recovery of this group.

"We got 2 females; one was a recapture we captured a few years earlier and one was a new female which was probably the most exciting find because there are very few females in the area," Mr Griffiths said about the recent study.

"Any time we get a new animal is really re-

ally exciting and the fact that this one has survived through to adulthood is a good sign for the population."

According to historical surveys platypus numbers within Monbulk Creek and the Dandenong Catchment have continued to decline and are now at the point where only a handful of platypuses remain.

Mr Griffiths said litter and urbanisation has continued to plague the vulnerable platypus population.

"I've been doing surveys here since 2010 and longer term there has been surveys done in Monbulk creek since the mid 90's.

"Over that time we've seen a reduction in abundance, but also they've been contracting towards the upper reaches - from Birdsland Reserve up into Belgrave - so the population has been really declining."

"We have started to see a bit of a boost in numbers but it's a very slow process."

bourne Water aims to protect, improve and create habitat for the remaining platypus population within 12km of Monbulk Creek in Belgrave Heights To assist with this program Melbourne Water are asking residents for ideas on how to improve the health of Monbulk Creek and identify key issues, opportunities and future priorities. The survey can be accessed here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Platypus Mr Griffiths said residents can also assist in protecting these unique Australian mammals by recording any sightings in the platypusSPOT app which helps scientists track platypus numbers.

"These platypuses are in a very vulnerable position at the moment," Mr Griffiths said.

"Imagine in a few months' time going for a walk around Birdsland and seeing platypus in those lakes ... that's what we're trying to work towards."

Pub goes down after sitting in ruins

By Kyra Gillespie On 12 March the charred remains of Gembrook's beloved Ranges Hotel was demolished.

The historic pub has been sitting in ruin for six months after it was destroyed by fire in September last year.

Bulldozers and heavyweight vehicles have arrived on site on Tuesday 12 March to flatten the structure - but it's not a free-for-all.

Due to the pub's heritage overlay, Cardinia Shire has instructed the demolition company to save a number of items of historic significance - particularly the fire place and the bird room.

Community stalwart and president of the Gembrook R.S.L Norm Smith said it was a "sad" day for the township.

"It is very emotional; The Ranges has always been a meeting place. The footy teams would go there after games - even the opposition would meet and have a friendly drink.

"I had my first drink there when I was five years old; it was around 1938 and my dad sat me on the counter and I had a Schweppes lemonade. I remember it was so fizzy it went up my nose.

"I also had my last drink there on the Sunday before it happened on the Monday. It's a really sad thing."

Mr Smith said he's heard through the grapevine that owners Andrea and Colin Nippers will rebuild the pub.

However Mr Nippers declined to comment when contacted by the Mail.

The September 24 fire was deemed not suspicious by CFA investigators at the time.

It was ruled that the blaze started from a machine in the laundry room.

More than a dozen fire fighting vehicles and around 50 firefighters battled the flames, but were unable to save the heritage-listed building.

Theft from car On Monday 11 March, 2019, at 12:40pm Olinda Police were called to the Olinda Falls area regarding a suspect male seen looking into cars.

When the police arrived they located a car with a smashed window and were informed that a wallet had been taken.

After checking the car park a 31-year-old male from Kalorama was located with the wallet and arrested for theft from motor car, along with two charges for attempted theft from motor cars and charged with driving offences.

Police searched his car and located a World War 1 German bayonet.

The male attended the Melbourne Magistrate Night Court and was remanded to appear at a later date.

First Constable Inger, from Olinda Police, reminded residents to lock their doors and hide any valuable from sight. "leaving valuables in plain view is inviting this type of dishonest behaviour ... always conceal any valuables from view and place them in the boot or glove box prior to arriving."

Olinda fatal At about 3:55PM 15 March, a motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive on Olinda-Monbulk Rd near the intersection of Upper Coonara Road, Olinda.

The 64-year-old male rider died at the scene.The female driver and only occupant of the vehicle was treated for minor physical injuries.

Witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw the motorcycle travelling in the area prior to the collision are sought.

The male was riding a blue Suzuki sports bike and was wearing a dark jacket, a fluorescent yellow full face helmet and blue pants.

Bunyip State Park is still closed until further notice.

The fire has been contained but crews are back burning and fires are still going in the area.

Campers, accommodation or day visitors are urged not to visit the area due to the fire activity and Acting Sergeant Luke Hahir at Emerald Police said individuals going into the area were putting themselves in danger, There are still ongoing fires in spots. The weather conditions this week are heating up again and by visiting this area people are placing themselves at risk, if the conditions change suddenly."

Firefighters are working hard to control more than a dozen fires burning mostly in the east and southeast of Victoria, which will take time and means there will be an increased level of smoke which might be unhealthy for some people.

ACL can be Achilles heel ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) knee injuries in female sports has increased dramatically in Australia in recent years, correlating positively with the huge uptake of AFL by girls and women. In fact, there have been up to 43% (74% under 25 years) more ACL injuries over the past five years The peak rate of these injuries occur during the age of 15-19 years old & are likely due to increased participation levels and changes during puberty, plus a range of other physiological factors.

The ACL’s primary role is to resist excessive anterior translation and medial rotation of the tibia (lower leg) in relation to the femur (thigh bone).

It is more commonly torn in women than men for a number of reasons: ligament is smaller and less strong in female

strength, improved movement patterns and balance/agility).

In Australia such programs are readily available to sports clubs and trainers: the FIFA 11+ for soccer, FootyFirst for AFL and the netball KNEE program for netball.

One downside of the above programs is that they often take 20-25 minutes to complete, and when coaches only have their players for 1-2 hours of training they are reticent to spend this time on preventative training.

Our physiotherapy team have developed our own abridged version to assist local coaches, parents and trainers in the implementation of these programs. Evidence is unclear whether a shorter version is just as effective but the best exercise is the one that gets done.

Scholarships for youth of the future

By Derek Schlennstedt A PHD student at Monash University with a passion for Sustainable Development is one of 17 leading students Australia-wide named as a Westpac Future Leaders Scholar.

Kallista local, Jarrod Grainger-Brown was awarded a Future Leaders scholarship in December from the Westpac Scholars Trust, to help his research into urbanisation and sustainable planning.

His PhD integrates the Sustainable Development Goals in urban and city planning, to ensure that the prosperity offered by cities does not threaten Australia's future sustainability.

Speaking to the Mail Jarrod (23) said the scholarship will further help his studies, and that he was humbled to have been one of 17 in the country to receive a scholarship.

"It's an amazing opportunity and as a student from Kallista it is incredibly humbling," he said.

"Really my PHD comes back to this idea of trying to ensure the prosperity that cities or areas offer without threatening Australia's future sustainability.

"Trying to balance sustainability and prosperity as the population in Australia keeps on expanding.

"To balance this sustainability and prosperity reality we need to think about quite a few issues at once ... so what I'm trying to do is make a reasonably simple framework that still consider lots of different factors and tries to balance these two."

With this scholarship, Jarrod said he will be able to travel to, and incorporate knowledge from distant countries and foreign contexts into his research.

"I think it will improve my studies in many ways," he said.

"Urbanisation and city research is occurring worldwide and all the cities around the

world are facing this problem and there's a lot of researchers looking at it.

"The ability to travel overseas and research for a reasonably long periods of time with an international university gives a better outlook and context to what my work will be.

"Planning on doing an comparison between the planning approaches in Asia and then another city in Europe so I can actually travel to these places and understand what they do rather than just reading it in a book."

New name for group

Unlike its predecessor - which existed as a committee appointed by Cardinia Shire Council, with guidelines and rules set by Council and Council endorsement required to be an EVC member - the newly established Emerald Village Association (EVA) Inc is a separate and self-managed association incorporated under broad rules set by the Victorian Government.

The new EVA will still be supported by Council but will have the advantage of being independent and able to formulate its own position on a range of community matters that are of interest to the residents and businesses of Emerald.

The EVA will issue a regular newsletter to keep the Emerald community up to date with activities in the town and this newsletter will be supported by a website and Facebook page.

Most notably, the EVA will be able to apply for grants from Council and other sources without the need to be sponsored by Council.

The new EVA Committee is currently after three more dedicated Emerald residents to join the team.

The EVA Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Emerald RSL at 7.30pm

Puppy pool party pawfect

By Derek Schlennstedt This year marked the fourth annual Doggy Hour at the Belgrave Heated Outdoor Pool and as per usual it was a huge hit with pets and pet owners coming from all around to go for a swim.

With the usual entry of a gold coin donation and funds going to Animal Aid, the now traditional final swim for the summer season was enormously well-attended and was the biggest event so far.

From 6-7pm on 11 March a menagerie of dogs descended on the pool to practice their swimming styles.

All sorts of dogs got in on the fun, from Golden Retrievers to English Bulldogs and even Great Danes.

Mail Journalist Derek Schlennstedt was there to grab all the pictures from the day.

Solar swimmers kick on Dandenong Ranges swimmers will be able to continue swim on cooler days during the next swim season, thanks to a solar heating system funded by the Australian Government.

As part of its $2.5 million investment in RidgeWalk through the Community Development Grants Programme, the Australian Government will be contributing up to $200,000 towards the solar heating system, which has been in use since the start of the year.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Tony Stevenson, welcomed the funding and said the heating will mean swimmers won't be put off by cooler days in the next swim season in November.

"Though our outdoor pools in Yarra Ranges open from November-March, the reality is that the water can be quite cold unless it's a sunny day with temperatures in the 30s," Cr Stevenson said.

"This solar heating project will mean the water is comfortable for swimmers on cooler days, encouraging visitors to come to the pool more often and make the most of this fantastic, community-run facility.

"Council's Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2017-2021 has a goal of ensuring people in the community are physically active, and this project helps us to work towards that.

"The solar power will also mean the pool saves money on energy costs while reducing its impact on the environment through green-

The Olinda Community Pool Association, Olinda Community House and Council have been involved in the planning of the project.

Olinda Community Pool Association President, Duncan Brown, said the pool had seen an increase in visitation since the heating sys-

"We've had plenty of positive feedback about the increase in pool temperature, which has clearly been reflected in our attendance," Mr Brown said.

"This project has increased the patronage at the pool and encourages more people to get

outside and be active.

"We, as a community group running the pool, have had excellent support from all levels of government, which really proves how well-used and well-loved the pool is."

Landfill levy waived to help with our bushfire recovery The Andrews Labor Government has waived the landfill levy to help Victorians in the east recover from bushfires.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D'Ambrosio announced today that the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) will work with landfill operators and coun-

cils in fire affected areas to apply the exemption.

Local landfills will be able to apply for the exemption for bushfire waste through the EPA and will not charge the fee to people who drop off eligible waste.

"We're doing what we can to help those affected by these devastating bushfires - so they

can focus on getting back on their feet," Ms D'Ambrosio said.

"People cleaning up after a devastating event like this one shouldn't have to face a fee for doing it - waiving the landfill levy is one way we can help communities recover."

The waiver covers bushfire waste only and

applies to the levy component of the gate price.

The Labor Government is supporting impacted communities to rebuild and get through these difficult times over the next few weeks and months ahead.

The project's aim is to give teenagers an opportunity to be seen and heard in their community, and Ms Kayler believes there are not enough opportunities for young people to creatively and effectively have a voice within their communities.

The project runs in the first week of the Easter school holidays, with workshops taking place on Wednesday 10, 11 and 12 April, from 11.30am-4pm .

The Workshops will build up and culminate in a flash mob event that will take place in the streets of Belgrave on Saturday 13 April sometime between 10am-1pm.

The Here Me Workshops will also include group discussions exploring ideas, dramabased activities, learning contact improvisation skills and checking out the public and hidden spaces of Belgrave.

No drama, dance or performance experience is necessary, only a willingness to participate, says Mr Kayler She said the workshops are an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, have a voice and share opinions and ideas.

Hotel Mumbai has sharp sound design and visceral, uncompromising violence, and even the cinematography contributes to the frantic atmosphere. Before the primary attack in the hotel, the camerawork is fixed and steady in the opulent, tightly-controlled interior of the Taj Hotel, but looser and shakier in the bustling streets outside; when the horror of the attacks breaches the hotel, the camerawork inside the hotel becomes more unsteady as the situation breaks down.

Moreover, the plot keeps us dreadfully on our toes with its willingness to kill off characters we've grown deeply attached to.

Hotel Mumbai is a harrowing, exceptionally efficient thriller and a gruelling glimpse into a very recent tragedy.

Fresh menu for season Monbulk Bowling Club is pleased to offer a fresh new menu for the change of season.

The new menu is available this week and there is something for everyone.

The feature dish for the new menu highlights some tastes from Europe with a crumbed pork cutlet that will be accompanied by braised cabbage, ham hock and horseradish mash.

The club is also featuring Krombacher beer, which will be a perfect selection to enhance the German experience with meals. Krombacher is the leading premium beer sold in Germany and the club is pleased to be able to offer it for a great price to its customers.

The Basin on cloud nine

By Richard Millot The Basin have broken the hoodoo of the Division 1 premiership on their 9th time of calling, defeating Eildon Park in a dominant display at Batterham Park to seal the Norm Reeves Shield for 2018/19.

Set 218 for Premiership Honours, Blake Walter and Tom Edwards raced away from the start, 0/29 from the opening 5 overs against the Panther attack.

The Bears made it to drinks without loss before Edwards was dismissed LBW for 26 with the score at 1/64.

Joel Robertson was soon on his way after Monto Perera - shaking off injury from Day 1 broke though at 2/67 from 24 overs.

Yet still, the ever present skill of Walter was on display, belting 15 off a Perera over to notch up his half century.

Perera broke through again with the score 3/99 as Danny Rundle was adjudged stumped, with skipper Jayden Turcinovic joining Walter to see through to the tea break at 3/121 from 46 overs.

Thoughts of the match tightening up after the interval were soon dashed as Turcinovic and Walter continued as the Panthers struggled to find answers to contain the style the duo adopted.

The Bear pair raced through the middle overs, adding 36 in a 5 window gap to further close in on the elusive premiership.

A memorable moment for the Batterham faithful as Turcinovic brought up his half century in a key captain's knock before Walter reached triple figures soon after with a towering six that sent the stands into raptures.

The beginning of the 63rd over, Nathan Caton-Robertson signalled the end of the lo-

cal season as the Bears broke through for their first ever Division 1 premiership in the FTGDCA after an unbeaten 3rd wicket stand of 119.

Walter carried the bat to 106 not out, the 8th highest contribution in the FTGDCA Final and was deservedly named the Stephen Lee Medallist.

Turcinovic left the crease unbeaten on 70 not out, skipper of a team that delivered on the efforts of so many over so long ever since their Bears made their first appearance in the inaugural FTGDCA Division 1 final in 1947/1948.

At Lakesfield Reserve, Lysterfield secured promotion into Norm Reeves Shield for Season 2019/20 after defeating South Belgrave in the Decoite Shield Final. Chasing 251, South were on the back foot early as Tim Chivers broke past Daniel Cormack and Mark Baker to be 2/22.

build before falling for 25. Jordan McDermott joined Ray to see through to the tea break at 3/87, but was on his way soon after as South sat at 4/96.

Ray reached 52 before his dismissal brought a quick collapse.

Chivers teamed up with Brad Paull to cause damage to South's chances, claiming 5/32 to wrap up a successful season for the Beavers, dismissing South Belgrave for 142.

Chivers concluded the match with figures of 5/38 from his 21 overs, whilst Paull claimed the final scalp of the season to return figures of 4/30 from 17/5 overs.

Nick McKay received the Ken Utting Medal for best afield in the final as Lysterfield taste Decoite Shield success for the first time in 11 seasons, ironically in a year where they defeated South Belgrave to the title.

The Yarra Ranges Athletics team recorded untold personal bests, while a lucky few managed to win a medal or two.

Emily Fiedler showed her potential with 2 golds and a silver from the weekend.

Other medals went to Kiara Flavel, Indigo Linde, Zoe Clarke and Summer Caldicott.

Three Monbulk sides play

By Jed Lanyon Tuesday pennant saw the holding of semi-finals with all Monbulk teams participating.

Monbulk 1 who finished in top place played at home against Mooroolbark.

Eric Markham's rink began slowly and after the sixth end was down by 8 shots, 2 to 10.

They then gradually pegged the margin back and when they obtained 5 shots on the seventeenth end had hit the lead.

However, Monbulk was able to win the last 4 ends to record a two shot win, 15 to 13.

This gave Monbulk a victory by 21 shots, 65 to 44 and a place in the section final.

Monbulk 2 played away at Glen Waverley on grass and struggled to keep up with their opponents.

Graeme Goller's rink started well on the first end with a 3, but was only able to win five more ends losing by 21 shots, 11 to 32.

Monbulk trailed by 12 shots after the eleventh end, but then bowled brilliantly to lose only one more end to take out the game by 4 shots, 24 to 20.

Monbulk 3 played at home against their opponents from the previous week Heatherdale.

Monbulk were able to get the upper hand on two of the three rinks which gave the team victory and a place in the section final.

Don Barnetson's rink had a battle throughout the game winning only 7 ends and losing by 15 shots, 11 to 26.

Monbulk 3 won by 9 shots, 62 to 53.

The section finals were held on Thursday 14 March with Monbulk 1 taking on Warburton at Boronia and Monbulk 3 playing Eastwood Golf at Mooroolbark.

Monbulk was able to hang on in a nail biting finish to win by 5 shots, 57 to 52.

Monbulk bowlers in action. the last 9 ends only scoring 2 shots to lose by 11 shots, 15 to 26.

Eric Markham's rink led by 10 shots with 7 ends to play but with the Warburton team lifting their game scores was level with one end to play.

Monbulk was able to gain one shot on the final end to win the rink 18 shots to 17.

Andrew Bell's rink took control early in the match and came away with a convincing win by 15 shots, 24 to 9.

This meant that Monbulk were section

champions for this season and will be promoted to Division 1 for the next bowls season.

Saturday pennant saw Monbulk with all three teams participating in the finals.

All Monbulk teams were in the semi-final with a win meaning they would contest the section final.

Monbulk 1 played Croydon at home and was playing well early which gave them a comfortable lead.

Richard Cookson's rink was 8 shots in front after the tenth end and went on to record a

convincing win by 14 shots, 26 to 12.

Eric Markham's rink were one shot down after the seventh end, but then obtained the maximum eight shots to take control of the contest and eventually run out winners by 17 shots, 32 to 15.

Brian Smith's rink trailed by 10 shots after the fifteenth end but then rallied to draw the rink.

Andrew Bell's rink bowled consistently well to record a big win by 19 shots, 35 to by 10 shots after the fifteenth end but then rallied to draw the rink.

Overall, Monbulk 1 won by 50 shots, 108 to 58 and earned a place in the final.

Monbulk 2 played Cardinia Waters at home and on their home green was never in any trouble.

Case Broekhof's rink won the majority of ends and cruised to a 22 shot win, 31 to 9.

Eric Furby's rink bowled consistently well and with one multiple won by 10 shots, 22 to 10.

Peter Francis' rink controlled the game all day and won by 26 shots, 37 to 11. Graeme Goller's rink had a closer contest but maintained control to win by 7 shots, 20 to 13.

This gave Monbulk 2 an overall win by 67 shots, 110 to 43 and a place in the final.

Monbulk 3 played away at Vermont South and was able to get bowls in the head early to give them the lead.

Peter Hiscox's rink got right on top and went on to win by 27 shots, 34 to 7.

Alan Brooke's rink had a close contest but eventually went down by 4 shots.

This result was Monbulk 3 won overall by 23 shots, 51 to 28 and this meant that all three Monbulk sides had progressed to the final which is a club record.
