Students at Nossal High School in Berwick have swapped their books to take control of a multi-million dollar fighter jet.

The Royal Australian Air Force brought its F/A-18F Super Hornet simulator for 33 students from four year levels to try out which aimed to develop interest amongst young people in aviation careers.

The experience included a flying lesson with an instructor, air traffic control games, and an aircrew life support gear demonstration.

Year 10 student Eunice said "It gave me insight as to what it means to be a pilot and opened up possible career paths."

An illegal reptile smuggling ring has been busted by authorities during raids in Narre Warren, Oakleigh and Clayton on 7 March.

The syndicate had been attempting to send Australian lizards to China and Hong Kong, concealed in toys, chip containers, powered chocolate tins, deep fryers and rice cookers.

The raids were part of a lengthy investigation by Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Australian Border Force and the federal Department of the Environment and Energy.

More than 150 lizards - with an estimated street value of more than $550,000 - have been seized during the joint operation since June 2018.

In the past month, three other search warrants were executed in Melbourne and Werribee, in which two people were arrested and charged with illegal possession and disposal of protected wildlife.

New lid means bowls all year

By Brendan Rees Narre Warren Bowls Club will look forward to playing bowls in all weather conditions thanks to Federal Government funding to secure a new green covers.

Through the help of MP for Holt Anthony Byrne the club will receive $390,000 under the Australian Government's Community Sport Infrastructure Grants Program.

Mr Bryne joined club member Eric Sydneham, club president Peter Groom, and Scot Nicholson from Bowls Australia to make the announcement at the club on Wednesday 6 March.

The unique roof structure will allow members to play in wet weather and allow the club to host major bowls events and public functions.

"This has been a project that I have lobbied for a number of years. I am pleased that we were able to secure funding as an important step to build this outstanding new facility," Mr Byrne said.

"This new and permanent roof structure will cover the existing bowling green at Narre Warren Bowls Club will be of great value to the club and the local community, as anyone can come down and enjoy a game of bowls and enjoy these new facilities. Congratulations to the Narre Warren Bowls Club on receiving this grant," he added.

Mr Sydneham, who is a past president of the club, said the rood would create a unique outdoor function room and cater for many events.

Corellas move in

By Brendan Rees For many they may seem like noisy birds wreaking havoc but for Lesley Bailey they are welcome any day.

"They absolutely demolish the trees along The Esplanade nature strip which is fine by me," The Berwick Springs Estate resident in Narre Warren South says.

"The seedlings of those trees take root real easy and they are a pest.

"I pull out hundreds of the seedlings in my garden, front and rear. The Corellas eat a lot of them before they can reach my garden," she explained.

"Those seedlings can grow very quickly and I have a fight on my hands every season."

According to Rohan Clarke, senior lecturer at the School of Biological Sciences at Monash University, the Corella, a small species of Cockatoo, is not native to Melbourne and are flocking in great numbers.

Mr Clarke said Corellas like to roost in areas here there infrastructure and lighting where temperatures slightly warmer.

"There's so many food opportunities in Melbourne now - onion weed in peoples lawns and all the grass parks, and big diversity of different plants," he added.

But Mr Clarke warned corellas can cause damage. "They just about get into anything - if you've got cypress pines with fruits on it, they hammer all of those."

Residents have overwhelmingly sided with the parrots, rallying behind calls to preserve their habitats.

"They're beautiful and bring me happiness.

I miss them when they aren't around," Michelle Lamoureux said.

"Love them. Leave them alone. We've done enough damage to their homes," Ali Uding said.

"Getting heaps fly over lately and making lots of noise! It's nice to see them, not wreaking havoc at all," Emma Fidler added.

Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following the theft of a credit card at a Narre Warren night club in January.

Investigators have been told a woman attended the Lauderdale Road night club on 27 January.

During the course of the evening the 18-year-old noticed a bank card had gone missing.

Upon reviewing her statements it was discovered that the card was used multiple times at the venue without her knowledge.

Police have released CCTV images of a woman who they hope will be able to assist with their enquiries.

Two left trapped Volunteers from the Pakenham Road Rescue Crew were called to the second serious car crash in Berwick in the space of six days on Thursday 28 February.

The crash involving two cars and a truck occurred 500 metres from the outbound Clyde Road exit on the Monash Freeway, leaving two occupants trapped just before 3.30pm.

Arriving on scene Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA volunteers at first struggled to make out the model of a maroon Hyundai, or how many occupants were in the vehicle, such was the damage from the force of the crash.

Volunteers could free the passenger who was trapped against the guard rail, while the driver was trapped in the seat for almost an hour before being able to be freed by the crews from Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA with the use of used hydraulic tools.

Both occupants were transported to the Alfred Hospital by Ambulance Victoria.

The Pakenham Road Rescue Crew is a joint partnership between volunteers from the Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA.

By Jessica Anstice Harry Dickson has always been a keen Richmond supporter and nothing has changed as he heads into his 100th year.

Turning 100 called for a week-long celebration surrounded by family and friends.

Mr Dickson has had celebrations with Aveo Edrington Park Retirement Village in Berwick, Freemasons where he has been a member for 75 years, Cardinia Club and Balnarring Racing Club where he has been a member since 1973.

About 120 people attended Mr Dicksons birthday party at the Berwick retirement village on Friday, including ex Richmond AFL player Francis Bourke, ex Hawthorn AFL player Geoff Ablett, City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon, Member for Gembrook Brad Battin, Member for Latrobe Jason Wood and One Nation’s Esther Baker.

“It feels terrific to turn 100. I really have

On a typical day, Mr Dickson gets up, and is “really happy to be upright and breathing,” he said.

“I walk around the village every morning and afternoon. I read the newspaper in morning.

“Every week I cook fruit cakes and share these. I love to talk with people and enjoy meeting new people.”

To stay young, he keeps active.

“You have to make yourself active, every day,” he said.

“Get out, meet people, greet everyone even people you don’t know.

“We can learn something from everyone, but you need to be active and get out.”

The best advice Mr Dickson has for a young person is to show respect.

“I think respect is important, respect yourself and respect other people,” he said.

Exhausted firefighters tackling the Bunyip State Park blaze last week received a welcome sight of icy-poles - but in a delivery van not quite what they expected.

Neither snags nor burgers were on the menu when the Brian's Gourmet Meats van rolled up to Bunyip fire brigade and the staging area at Nar Nar Goon Football Club on Sunday 3 March.

The Lyndhurst business decided to lend a hand to the hard-working firefighters by delivering icy-poles they had purchased at Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre.

Angela Rollason of Brian's Gourmet Meats said their employee employee Bernie Barrett came up with the idea.

"We just let Bernie use the business card, and we had a bit of a budget. She kind of went over it. Then two of the staff at Woolies actually pulled out their own purses and paid the rest," she said.

Bernie's daughter Tayani and and Angela's daughter Sarah went along for the ride who said "it was nice to be able to help."

"She basically described it was such an eye opener when they started handed out the icypoles. The firefighters were really grateful," Angela said.

"A lot them said to the girls they were so exhausted they couldn't even hold an icy-pole in their hand.

"Everything that everyone has done in the community it's really helped - it's not just our little one per cent," she added.

‘Disaster waiting to happen’ A parent fears it’s just a matter of time before someone is seriously injured as they make their way to Clyde Primary School.

Lisa Keppel of Cranbourne East says traffic “roars” through Clyde-Five Ways Road where the speed limit is 80km/h, putting at risk the lives of pedestrians who use the traffic light crossing near Oroya Grove.

“It’s a really chaotic road. I’ve seen near misses nearly every single day, it’s just a disaster waiting to happen,” Ms Keppel said.

“They really need to drop the speed limit and put a crossing supervisor on there.

There’s little preppies crossing the road by themselves.

“I’m really scared someone is going to die and I’m not over dramatising it; it’s scary everyday watching it.”

According to Ms Keppel said the school had grown from 150 kids to 480 kids in a “very short space of time.“ In a statement, VicRoads says there was no need apply a 40km/h school zone on Clyde-Five Ways Road due to school’s distance from the arterial road which is about 200 metres.

“The new traffic lights at Clyde-Five Ways Road and Oroya Grove were installed by a

private housing developer to manage extra traffic coming from the new estate,” VicRoads manager of movement and safety Sasha Yarwood said.

“We’ll continue to monitor the area to determine if any further improvements to the area are needed,” he said.

Casey Council has called VicRoads to reduce the current speed limit from 80km/h to 60km/h during school peak hours.

“VicRoads has indicated that they do not support this change,” Casey manager of city design and construction Trevor Griffin said.

Parents at Clyde Primary School have expressed their concerns, saying the speed limit needed to be dropped urgently.

“If the speed limit during school times was dropped, clear school signage and flashing lights were in place, this would certainly be a positive step to avoid a catastrophic accident from happening,” school council president Kerri Lightowler said.

“Our Clyde community is growing rapidly, new estates, shopping centres and parks, bringing more families to our beautiful area, “Our infrastructure is struggling to keep up so it’s absolutely important to keep the safety of our community as our number one priority,” she said.

Reaching for the stars

By Jessica Anstice Ladies of Casey celebrated International Women's Day at Bunjil Place on Friday morning with a networking breakfast and the opportunity to listen to one woman's remarkable story about her mission to Mars.

Around 150 people were taken on a cosmic journey by guest speaker Mars One astronaut candidate Dianne McGrath.

Ms McGrath is one of 28 Australians shortlisted in the international Mars One program that seeks to establish the first permanent human settlement on Mars.

The sustainability expert spoke about why she put her hand up to be part of the Mars One mission.

Should her application be successful, she will undergo 10 years of intensive training before heading off to Mars in 2031, never to return.

"The City of Casey events team have really vibrant ideas that are just out of this world," City of Casey events team leader Vicky Goodwin said.

"We wanted a guest speaker that is immersive and different with a sense of adventure and Dianne was just right.

"One thing I love about the team is they're always looking for something new. It's like a city experience in the suburbs."

Bunjil Place manager Colette McMahon

said Ms McGrath was chosen because she links in with a range of programs right across the precinct.

"There is a big focus at the moment on sustainability," Ms McMahon said.

City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon noted International Women's Day is a very 'significant' day.

"The theme is Balance for Better and to me that means gender balance is essential for

communities to survive," she said.

"We need to support one another in all that we do. We need to support, encourage and help each other."

Banker Sharon D'Silva said she attended the event because "work in the banking industry is more male dominant.

"It was a really good event. I met some lovely ladies who were very empowering.

"The venue was also quite beautiful."

Loads of love

By Brendan Rees Truckloads of donated pet food and hay will make their way to aid victims of the Bunyip Fire devastation thanks to a charity drive held in Cranbourne on Saturday 9 March.

A convoy of trucks and high-performance sports cars made their way to PETStock Cranbourne to accept donations of feed from the the public to help fire-affected farmers.

The people at Eye Candy Motorsports and Flash Market also joined forces and raised funds to buy feed.

They delivered 72 tonnes of hay and 10 tonnes of stock feed as well as other donations to Warriors 4 Wildlife.

Nigel Williamson of Nigel's Animal Rescue who attended PETStock for the charity drive said he was overwhelmed by the public's response.

"It turned out to be a lot bigger than what we thought it was which was just amazing," Mr Williamson said.

"We've already donated out over a 140 tonnes of goods in the last eight days that have gone out to people already.

"The generosity of the public and businesses has been totally amazing.

"It's been an amazing incredible feat by volunteers who have jumped on board with us."

Mr Williamson said there were 20 depots across Melbourne where donations were being accepted which would assist with injured wildlife affected by the fires.

"We're going out delivering it farmers and people personally," he said. "We still need more donations and we'll need them for over the next six months because once the fires are out we've got to keep doing food drops out there."

Barrie Tapp of Animal Cruelty Hotline who has teamed up with Nigel's Animal Rescue and Warriors 4 Wildlife, said the flood of donations was impressive.

"It's unbelievable and that it's all being delivered by truck and trailers by the volunteers," he said.

"The public went into PETStock and purchased a lot of the feed and donated it straight back to the convoy.

Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon said she was blown away by the generosity of people donating at PETStock and "shows the heart of the community."

"I think it's another example of great people doing great things," she said, She added Casey Council would also be donating $20,000 to the Casey Cardinia Foundation Relief Fund to aid victims of the Bunyip Fire.

"Thank you one and all. Thank you PETstock and thank you Casey!"

By Brendan Rees Hampton Park Tennis Club could be demolished and relocated as part of a radical Casey Council draft master-plan for Robert Booth Reserve.

Cairns Road Reserve has been earmarked as a proposed new site for the tennis club and its 200 members; however Casey Council is lobbying the Federal and State Government for $6-8 million in funding to secure a new clubhouse and courts.

Club president Ron Lamb says the current facilities at the Somerville Road site are in badly need of an upgrade.

"The club's been there over 50 years with

the same sort of amenities, just getting a bit beyond it now," he said.

Mr Lamb said the club was excited to move to Cairns Road Reserve which would boost its membership and resolve a lack of car parking: "It gives it a central location too; we're hoping to get people over from Lyndhurst way and Lynbrook."

"We're looking forward to the move because it'll mean new facilities and plus more courts hopefully."

"We're stuck in a little corner and we sort of can't move anywhere. It's just not contusive to expanding, that's the main problem," he said.

"It's been passed by council to do it so it's just a matter of time I think of getting it done."

At their 19 February meeting councillors voted for the $11 million draft master-plan of Robert Booth Reserve to be placed on public exhibition from 25 February to 24 March to gather feedback from the community.

However, City of Casey acting manager of city planning Keri New said that the Robert Booth Reserve draft Masterplan had been temporarily removed to enable a further conversation about the draft plan with the landowner.

"The Draft Masterplan will be back on display next week and the consultation period extended until early April," she said.

The Hampton Park Progress Association which owns Robert Booth Reserve, declined to

comment to Star News.

Councillor Wayne Smith expressed his excitement for the master-plan, saying it's a "win-win for everyone."

"It's timely that we put some money into it because it's ageing," he said.

"It's just a matter of coming up with the funds to do the tennis. We've got the funds for everything else but not the tennis relocated.

"We're lobbing federal and state governments to come on board and support the tennis component," Cr Smith said.

He said the State Government had committed to providing $3 million for the redevelopment of the pavilion to cater for all user groups including netball change rooms.

When asked when works would begin, Cr Smith said "I suspect it will start whenever the state money can come through. Just because there's election promise, doesn't mean it happens in the first year."

Under the plan, the existing netball courts would be demolished and replaced with new competition netball courts and floodlighting, as well as a new player shelter shed and a new half netball court for warm ups - which would be installed at the current tennis courts.

Also proposed in the master-plan is: A new playground and picnic area Improved cycling paths, Improved car parking and entrances Retention of existing trees A new CFA training track with gated access to replace existing track behind the pavilion A new secure store for turf wicket maintenance equipment Removal of the northern panel of fencing of the practice nets to widen the pedestrian access between the practice nets and the oval perimeter fence.

"All this happens in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance" said Juan Carlos Loyola OAM. All longstanding volunteers in a variety of community groups are encouraged to nominate.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of local residents and active community members, including Juan Carlos Loyola.

Patchwork quilt designer/artist Yan Pring from Newcastle NSW will be conducting a patchwork workshop in Warragul on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March ($200 entry) and also on Wednesday 20th - Sunday 24th ($500 entry) which will be a wonderful time to 'bust your fabric stash'.

Yan has been quilting and playing with fabric for 40 years. Her specialty has always been playing with colour - and letting the fabric do the hard work. EVERYONE is capable of finding the ARTIST within - let her guide you there and find your JOY. Along with her workshops, Yan will be conducting a number of show 'n' tell trunk shows in the area. Evolution Music Entertainment presents Tillerman - The Cat Stevens Songbook at Lynbrook on 30 March.

After an absence of 12 months Tillerman is back at the wonderful Faith Theatre in Lynbrook to start the 2019 season.

With an all new production featuring sound, lighting and visual, the team, led by vocalist Michael Prizeman, promises an experience not to forget.

“It has taken just on 12 months to get the production just right and now we can give showgoers the ultimate experience," Michael said.

“This is more than a tribute show. Cat Stevens' music is so intertwined with the 70s and the sounds so distinctive, you are instantly brought back to that era when the first note is struck."

Evolution Music provides the technical and promotional support. Michael and lighting and sound expert Mark Symonds have years of experience in live and theatre shows.

“And it shows”, said Mark.

“We have put all our technical expertise into this show so it sits well above other tribute-type shows.

"Along with a three piece string ensemble, we have a full rhythm section and five vocals that give the Tillerman Orchestra its depth of sound."

The team, consisting of 24 people, reigned supreme by taking out the Team Award at the Spartan Australia Race held at Tooradin Estate.

The event was the first time to be held in the City of Casey where participants encountered a rope climb, sandbag carrying, running through mud, jumping over fire, tackling monkey bars, throwing spears, ring obstacles, jumping over fire, crawling under wire and more.

Owner of NewFit Personal Training Michelle Newman said her team was overwhelmed with their victory.

"It was a really successful day and outcome," she said. "It was definitely challenging and really good teamwork.

"Everyone is feeling really energised and pretty proud of themselves to be able to complete such an event."

The team trained for about three months which included boot camp classes.

When asked taking on the extreme obstacles on the day, Michelle says some were "petrified."

"It's also been a bit of a mental battle for some of them; trying to encourage them to get their head around what they're up for and change their way of thinking.

"Some people have never even run a kilometre before now I've got them running 13 kilometres," she said.

"We've got signs in my gym about positive vibes only and I don't want to hear 'I can't.'"

Michelle says she hopes to organise more teams in future events.

"Hopefully trying to get bigger and better and be able to go in other events, and double the amount of people that would be amazing for me.

By Hayley Wildes The world's richest 1600-metre race - the AllStar Mile - is set to take over Flemington Racecourse on Saturday.

Boasting a $5 million prize pool, the All-Star Mile is in its first year and is the only race in Australia where the general public play a role in choosing the final field of 14 horses.

Cranbourne-trained Mr Money Bags was one of 10 horses voted into the field, finishing 10th in voting with just over 5000 public votes.

Four horses were also added to the field as wildcard entries.

Cranbourne Turf Club CEO Neil Bainbridge spoke about how the club rallied behind local trainer Robbie Griffiths and the four-year-old Mr Money Bags.

"The club got behind the horse and it's great for Cranbourne to be represented in the

All-Star Mile," Bainbridge said.

"Robbie Griffiths is a wonderful Cranbourne person and the club is very excited for him and his team to get a horse in the field - we wish Robbie and all the connections all the best in what will be a pretty special day on Saturday."

Having won at Flemington previously, the appropriately-named Mr Money Bags has proven himself as a strong performer at the track and while Bainbridge acknowledges the tough field he will go up against, he believes Mr Money Bags can come away with the win.

"He's performed well there in the past and he's in very good hands with Robbie and his team, but it's going to be a very difficult assignment," he said.

"When you put $5 million of prize money up, there's going to be a number of quality gallopers in the field and that's the case here.

"He'll be there to give it his best shot and

he'll have everyone in Cranbourne supporting him and we're all hopeful that the horse will perform very well."

With plenty on the line in the richest 1600-metre race, Bainbridge highlighted the strength of the Cranbourne stables in producing world-class horses that can compete with the best of the best.

"Cranbourne has always played a pretty significant role in the major Autumn and Spring carnivals," he said.

"At the moment there are 158 licenced trainers training out of Cranbourne and it produces around 7500 starters a year - it's Australia's biggest and busiest training complex.

"Nearly one in five runners at every Victorian race meeting are trained out here at Cranbourne.

"It's great for our trainers to be able to compete in these $5 million races."

Locals will be right behind Mr Money Bags on the weekend.

If his name is anything to go by, Mr Money Bags will be right in the thick of the action when they turn for the Flemington straight on Saturday.

Cranbourneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s moving forward

By Nick Creely Cranbourne president Gerry Kelly understands that there will be "chatter" surrounding the club heading into the AFL Outer East season, but insists the club is in tip-top shape and can't wait to get the season started.

The Eagles kick off their season on 13 April against Beaconsfield, and will have a new-look about them in 2019 after going down in a brave preliminary final defeat to Narre Warren, with several senior players departing, most notably legendary sharpshooter Marc Holt to Karingal.

But Kelly said that it presents an exciting new opportunity for the next batch of Cranbourne stars to step up to the plate in the Premier division.

"I'm sure there's chatter about Cranbourne going around everywhere, maybe some people will be surprised when we actually get the season started," he said.

"The boys have been training really well, we're ready to go.

Kelly said that the club did all they could to be part of the MPNFL in 2019 and beyond, but once that passed, the AFL Outer East competition provided a tremendous opportunity for the club to continue building its brand and branching out into the Yarra Valley.

"We've behind the eight ball a little bit, because we weren't preparing for Outer East, we were hoping to get into the Peninsula league," he said.

"But that didn't work out, so we're really looking forward to being in the Outer East, maintaining our old rivalries with the clubs and looking forward to playing some new clubs, going to some new country towns, it's fantastic.

two clubs once again on Saturday and Sunday, with Bloods skipper Craig Slocombe winning the toss and electing to bat at Alex Nelson Reserve.

Star Bucks seamer Jurgen Andersen (4/17) loomed as the danger, finding the wicket of both Nathan King and Michael Vandort early, and when Daniel Watson (1/15) managed to claw out Tim Ford without scoring, the home side well and truly had their backs against the wall at 3/22.

Association legend Steve Spoljaric (24) looked comfortable amid a sublime spell by Andersen, but he eventually snared the key man with a ripping caught and bowled to leave them hanging precariously at 5/50.

The score soon became 7/56 after Rob Peat (3/64) went to work to pick up Slocombe and Jarrod Armitage in a matter of four deliveries, which included an absolute stellar catch from Ben Watson, and the very real prospect of the Bucks winning the match by the end of day one was a feasible reality.

But, this Bloods side never gives in, fighting their way back from despair to somehow post a competitive 147, with Malinga Bandara (25), Liam Hamilton (23), Matt Wetering (31 not out) and Straker (12) showing nerves of steel to rummage together enough runs to defend.

At stumps on the first day, the Bucks seemed home at 2/65, and despite star captain-coach David White falling in the final moments of the day and the ball appearing to turn square, the visitors were well and truly in the box seat.

And they couldn’t have seen it coming at all, with one of the great finals spells from a spinner that has taken 22 wickets post-Christmas and become arguably the most dangerous tweaker in the competition.

Straker (7/34) completely dismantled one of the most seasoned batting orders in local cricket, turning the ball a mile, bowling with pin-point accuracy to have the Bucks searching for an answer to stop him.

But they just couldn’t, falling for just 116 in 61 overs, a dramatic collapse of 8/51, with Daniel Watson contributing 43 of those runs himself.

Straker’s remarkable spell included 28 overs, with 12 maidens, while Malinga Bandara (3/51) provided plenty of support as the pair bowled 55 overs between them.

The Bloods then made sure of their work despite losing 2/10 in their second dig, batting out 29 overs to finish on 3/52, and more importantly, a well-deserved grand final spot in a few weeks’ time.

It was an even more extraordinary contest down at Frawley Road, meanwhile, with the heroics of Matt Chasemore almost stealing a win from the clouds against Hallam Kalora Park.

But cricket’s a cruel game, and there’s no tomorrow for the Bears, who fell agonisingly short by just the seven runs.

Once again, it was a game where momentum shifted as quickly as wickets fell, with the Hawks winning the toss and batting on day one.

Reliable openers Ben Hillard and Leigh Booth knocked around 38 for the first wicket, but the Bears went to work to rummage through the top order, with the Hawks falling to 5/75, before a stunning surge by Chasemore (4/26) saw the home side in disarray at 7/87, after snaring the dangerous Jordan Hammond, Ryan Hillard and Ciaron Connolly without them getting away.

It took a brilliant, brave knock from Kevin Kean (60) to turn the tide, combining superbly with Peter Sofra (24) and Chris Pereria (19) to completely shift the momentum and lift the home side to 206.

The Hawks managed to snare a wicket right before stumps, with Will Whyte (4/53) breaking through with only minutes to play to leave the visitors 1/1.

But a new day brings a fresh start, but the Hawks were simply unstoppable, with Whyte and gun quick Jordan Hammond (5/60) piercing through the top order with precision, snaring the dangerous Nathan Pilon in his final innings in the DDCA for a duck, and suddenly at 5/27, the Bears may have been already thinking about Mad Monday.

But not Matt Chasemore, who knuckled down with the same intensity that has served him so well throughout a glittering career.

Starting slowly before gradually accelerating, Chasemore looked indestructible, combining for strong partnerships with Jack Phillips (20) and Brendan Rose (17) to keep his side in it.

Batting with the lower order, the skipper plundered a glorious 101 off 181 balls, batting for over five hours to draw his side within reach.

‘Cheeks’ passed 100 with a shot through the slip region, but was out moments later, caught behind off Whyte, with another 14 runs required with a wicket remaining.

Hammond, who simply bowled superbly through the innings, snared Jarrod Goodes (30) to seal the win, with the Bears falling over for 199.

It now sets up a mammoth preliminary final between Buckley Ridges and Hallam Kalora Park. The Bucks lost the corresponding fixture to Mordialloc last year at Park Oval.

The winner of the match will take on Springvale South in a standalone grand final on 23 and 24 March at Carroll Reserve (St Mary’s).

Keogh’s back in the fold

VICTORIAN PREMIER CRICKET ROUND 15 (DAY TWO) Highly respected cricket coach Brian Keogh is back at Casey-South Melbourne, after the Swans announced on Thursday that he will be returning to the top job for three years.

After leading the Swans to a shock finals appearance in 2016/17, and being lauded inside and outside of the club for the way he manages players and gets the very best out of them, 'BK' was forced to resign at the end of that season due to work commitments. But, now he's back.

Keogh told Star News Group that there's a little bit of unfinished business, and can't wait to get back "home".

"There was only ever one club I wanted to go back to, I always felt like I was going to go back eventually," he said.

"But they are really privileged positions, and when you do walk away, you always have uncertainty about whether you can come back or not."

Keogh said negotiations happened pretty quickly, and once he knew he had the time to once again commit to the job, he didn't hesitate in saying yes.

"I watched a fair bit (this season), and have kept a pretty keen eye on the boys," he said. "(The discussions) started not that long ago - It got me interested, so it was a no brainer for me at all."

Keogh said he doesn't want to change much of what's already been built at Casey Fields, and hopes the club can continue to be as inclusive as it can be to the community. He simply wants to pick up where he left off.

"What's important is the infrastructure around the club - there's a lot of people doing a lot of work," he said.

"I want to build this community part of the club - in a lot of regards its been built, and the support we get from parents, grandparents, and the local community has been great. I want to come in and be as inclusive as I can, and we can continue to do more.

"I want to also keep building our relationship with the Cranbourne Cricket Club, the Gippsland region and the DDCA. "Hopefully I can lead it, and have some fun."

The Swans have confirmed that Nick Jewell has departed from the club after just one season as coach.

Dandenong, meanwhile, has ended the home and away season in fourth spot and will now turn their attention to the Victorian Premier Cricket finals after a seamless win against Kingston Hawthorn on Saturday at Walt Galt Reserve.

On day two of the Panthers' clash with the Hawks, the visitors resumed at 1/50 after the surprise loss of the in-form Brett Forsyth for 20, and with a little bit more work to do after the home side posted a lowly 150 in the first dig.

Tom Donnell (31) remained patient through the morning and early afternoon to help steady the visitors, combining with a classy Cameron Forsyth (61) for a strong 52-run stand before the skipper fell to leave the visitors 2/87, but still well and truly in the box seat.

Forsyth continued to play his shots in what was a vital innings in the middle before finals, and his highest score in the ones for the season, launching at the target with Comrey Edgeworth (72 not out), who made the most of his chance in the first XI by posting an assured half-century. Edgeworth carved nine boundaries in his fine knock coming from just his second game in the top side for the season, and ultimately putting his hand up to earn a finals spot.

After crossing for the first innings points with seven wickets left in the shed, Lincoln Edwards (53) also took the chance to gain some

Noble Park has advanced through to the preliminary final against Mt Waverley after a dominant win against a disappointing Bayswater over the weekend.

The home side could only muster up 167, before Parkers skipper Luke Wintle carved an unbeaten 72 to guide the visitors to a brilliant victory and within reach of a grand final.

They will play the Mounties at their home deck on Saturday and Sunday, with the winner to play either Brunswick or Plenty Valley the following week in the grand final.

Cranbourne ladies storm into decider CRANBOURNE BOWLS Cranbourne ladies playing in the combined Division 1/premier competition have stormed into the Sectional grand final defeating Montmorency by 25 shots.

It was a happy trip home from Montmorency on the Trios bus after the sensational win.

The third mid-week Cranbourne side defeated Mulgrave CC in the Div 3 sectional Semi-Final, but lost to Churchill/ Waverley in the sectional grand-Final. A great effort for everyone who played in the side during the year.

The six-a-side Cranbourne team lost to Cardinia Waters in the Semi-Final in a close game.

They also had a great year and it was pleasing that many players at the club had an opportunity to play a game in this team during the year.

Cranbourne Ladies Division 1 Cranbourne ladies come up against Clayton in the Division 1 Sectional Grand-final to be played this Tuesday at Edithvale. The form against Clayton has been good during the year and the ladies go in confident after the great win against Montmorency, but grand-finals are tough to win so it will come down to the form on the day.

NARRE WARREN The season ended for Narre Warren's Division 2 team on Tuesday after a loss to Dandenong Club.

Despite the loss, it has been a good year for the team, finishing in the finals. On Tuesday, Narre Warren was in front at lunch but failed to continue their form on the resumption. Eric Sydenham, Wally Finlayson, Arthur Scheurer and Jim Millar were the exception, winning 2917. Judy Naughton, Reg Young, Geoff Ampt and Rod Lane went down 11-32 and Keith Mark, Wilma Haringsma, Colin Groom and Wilma Stevenson went down 9-35.

Narre Warren (1) 49 lost to Dandenong Club (1) 84.

Narre Warren's pennant teams completed their year with a loss to Berwick in the section semi-final at Fountain Gate. Despite the loss, it was the same as midweek pennant, a successful year for the team. They were promoted from a lower division after last year and to make the finals was a big effort. Keith Mark, Alan Mark, Wally Finlayson and Norm Hosmer were the only winning rink (21-20) while Mark Groom, Jim Kempf, David Wilkinson and Ralph Devonshire drew 17-17. Michael Graham, Graham Dodd, Stan Robinson and Carl Lapham just missed, going down 21-22, but Wilma Haringsma, Peter Lister, Philip Howard and Geoff Miller were not allowed into the game, going down 15-27. Narre Warren (2) 74 lost to Berwick (5) 86.
