If there is one organisation that represents the spirit of the Dandenong Ranges it’s the UpweyBelgrave RSL Sub-branch.

Colloquially known as the ‘heart of the hills’, the branch has had a long and difficult journey back from the brink of collapse.

On 27 September, the State Government announced $100,000 to upgrade the RSL’s parking arrangements, assuring its future within the community.

President David Eaton said the Save the Upwey-Belgrave RSL chapter was well and truly over and that he looked forward to growing and expanding the already community loved sub-branch.

“Financially we are substantially better off than this time last year,” he said.

“We were struggling 12 months ago, but our results are considerably better than they were than this time last year."

Monbulk MP James Merlino and Veterans Minister John Eren visited the RSL and announced the $100,000 to cheers of joy from members.

Mr Eaton said the small gravel allotment that served as the parking space posed safety risks for members, many of whom were veterans or elderly.

“The car park is just going to be great, it’s like a river out there when it rains and rocks just seem to grow,” he joked.

“It’s quite dangerous and we have a lot of elderly members and it’s really a safety issue, so this is brilliant and it will change the visibility of the place - it’ll look sensational.”

Upon arriving at the RSL, Mr Eren was surprised at the state of the car park and described it as looking a bit ‘shabby’.

“I know that you do it tough in terms of raising money to keep this place going,” he said.

“Your car park I just turned up in looks pretty shabby and I could only imagine on a rainy day it would be terrible.

LETTERS Monbulk refuge worry At Monbulk on Thursday 20 September we had an incident where a helicopter had to land to pick up an injured man who was in a car accident in Olinda.

Normally the Monbulk football ground would be used but that is under repair.

Next would have been the Monbulk High School but that is also under repair.

is also under repair, so the Monbulk soccer pitch was the last resort.

Seeing that the Monbulk football ground is a refuge in case of fires in the area, where do the residents go as it is a huge project and may not be finished for the fire season?

Ladies gathered at the Lilydale RSL on Monday 17 September to accept thanks for knitting, crocheting and felting 5000-plus poppies.

They'll be planted in the garden surrounding the cenotaph in the Main Street ready for Remembrance Day on 11 November, 100 years from the end of World War I. Judith Shiel will also make a poppy wreath featuring names of the Lilydale soldiers who died in WWI, to be displayed at the Lilydale RSL. Sharon Chuck co-ordinated the project with support from the sub-branch, and Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe provided a thank-you morning tea.

The Healesville Hotel posted the news on Facebook, and said that it was time to "change and to use the space for something new and different".

The cafe's last day of trading is Sunday 7 October before they begin to work on a new project.

Labor promises millions for Angliss

By Derek Schlennstedt The State Government has promised to expand the Angliss Hospital if re-elected in November.

Premier Daniel Andrews unveiled the new $20 million intensive care unit at the Upper Ferntree Gully hospital on 25 September, plus a second short-stay unit, refurbished paediatric area and new mental health spaces in the emergency department.

The State Government promised those facilities at the 2014 election, and delivered 20 extra beds and a fourth level above the main hospital building with a 14-bed critical care unit.

Mr Andrews this time pledged $170 million for 120 aged care beds for the outer east plus the Angliss expansion.

“The sickest patients can get treated here rather than having to be taken to another of Eastern Health’s campuses, forcing families and loved ones to travel away from their home to visit and car for their loved one,” he said.

“When you finish stage one that then begs the question of getting on with stage two.

“I’m very, very proud today to announce that a re-elected Labor government will invest $170 million to fully deliver stage two of Eastern Health’s master plan for the Angliss.”

Stage two will add another 25 hospital beds plus a new 120-bed aged care facility at the nearby Wantirna Health site.

It would include 60 high-care beds and 60

it does on top of the completion of stage one guarantees the future of the Angliss Hospital for good,” Mr Andrews said.

“This is a special place.

"It is so well-regarded and loved by the local community and we’re going to make it better than it has ever been - from our smallest local resident like Levi, all the way through to seniors who need the comfort of knowing that they and their families will get the best care from the best staff in the very best facilities.”

Foul play ruled out in historic pub blaze

Foul play has been ruled out in the investigation into a large blaze which gutted Gembrook’s historic Ranges Hotel.

CFA investigators deemed the fire, which completely destroyed the pub on the morning of Monday 24 September, to be an accident which started from a machine in the laundry room.

“The fire has been confirmed not suspicious,” Acting Senior Sergeant Corrigan said.

“The ignition point was deemed to be in the laundry.

“We understand the fire started in a dryer in the upstairs area.”

Police believe the dryer was turned on about 8pm the previous evening.

The Mail understands that a build-up of lint in the dryer caused the fire.

More than a dozen fire-fighting vehicles and abount 50 firefighters were on scene, as well as police and other emergency services.

It’s believed the hotel was well alight by just after 6am and was deemed under control shortly after 8am.

Unfortunately crews were unable to salvage

Foul play has been ruled out in the large blaze which gutted Gembrook’s historic Ranges Hotel on 24 September. the heritage-listed building.

“The fire was well and truly going when we got here and had got up into the roof,” incident controller and Gembrook CFA firefighter Chris Pearsal said.

CFA crews allegedly responded to a laundry fire of a similar nature at the same pub almost 10 years ago when it was held by a different owner, raising questions about possible connections

between the two incidents.

However Gembrook CFA Captain Andrew Clark put the speculations to rest.

“There was a fire nearly 10 years ago, but it wasn’t in the same laundry,” he said.

“From memory it started in an outhouse out the back, almost two owners ago.

“The connection is simply speculation; this fire had no connection to the previous one.”

Since the incident residents have taken to Facebook to show their solidarity, though some comments slandered the Gembrook CFA for looting.

In a post on the Gembrook CFA Facebook page, Captain Clark dispelled the accusations.

“The Gembrook CFA has been entering the pub area...we have been checking to see if there are any hot spots, but we will always wear our turnout gear to identify us to the public driving past,” he said.

“As to the rumour of us looting from the pub, this is entirely false.

“If you see anybody in the pub area and they claim they are from the CFA they should have their turnout gear on or CFA ID.”

Drink driving Police arrested a drink driver after allegedy spotting an airborne vehicle in Ferntree Gully on Monday 1 October.

Knox police officers allegedly noticed the Ford Falcon travelling erratically through a roundabout on Mountain Gate Drive at the intersection of Hancock Drive about 12.40am.

Police tried to intercept the car but it failed to stop, and a short pursuit followed.

The car crashed into a concrete barrier on Parkview Drive and two men exited.

The driver allegedly fled the scene and police arrested him following a short foot pursuit.

The 21-year-old Ferntree Gully man underwent a preliminary breath test and returned a positive reading.

Police took him back to their station, where he returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.108.

They charged the man with traffic offences, including dangerous driving while being pursued and drink driving.

He was bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

His passenger, a 25-year-old Ringwood man, was released without charge.

Jewel thieves Thieves stole more than $100,000 in jewellery from a home in Monbulk.

Yarra Ranges CIU said the break-in occurred between 7.30am 7.30pm on Monday 24 September.

Thieves entered the Carcoola Road house via a rear sliding door.

Council sheds raided Thieves stole computer and radio equipment from the Yarra Ranges Council headquarters in Lilydale.

Yarra Ranges CIU officers said they cut chains to enter five sheds on the Anderson Street site between 5pm on Friday 21 September and 8am on Monday 24 September.

The break-in followed another at the council’s Nelson Road depot on 30 August, where thieves broke into vehicles and stole thousands of dollars in garden maintenance tools.

Police are investigating whether the two are linked.

Two Beaulieu break-ins A black bag filled with opals was among the items stolen during a raid on a Lilydale home.

Yarra Ranges CIU is investigating the Beaulieu Avenue break-in, which occurred between lunch time on 16 September and 9.30am on 24 September.

The homeowners were away and thieves entered via a sliding door.

They also stole other jewellery and a Holden Calais valued at $3000.

Police said it could be linked to another burglary that occurred in the same street between 10.30pm on 24 September and 7am the following day.

In that case, thieves forced ntry to a locked garage and stole a blue Subaru WRX and a silver Mercedes CLS.

The need for quality care During the last election, I promised we'd give our community access to high quality and affordable public hospital-care close to home, and I was so incredibly proud and humbled to attend Angliss Hospital recently to unveil their $20 million expansion as part of that pledge.

Our community - and generations to come - will reap the benefits of a new intensive care unit, a second short-stay unit, refurbished paediatric area and new mental health spaces in the emergency department.

The Angliss Hospital will now be able to offer even greater, accessible and efficient healthcare when it's needed most.

IN BRIEF Doors open to $6m kinder Lilydale's littlest residents can enjoy new kinder and childcare rooms, a toy library and children's garden at the new Lilydale Lakeside Children's Centre.

Early Childhood Education Minister Jenny Mikakos visited Box Hill Institute in Lilydale on Tuesday 25 September to officially open the $6.6 million facility.

It will cater for 50 kinder and 76 childcare places as well as provide families access to maternal and child health services, community playgroups and other family services.

The kinder service brings science, technology, engineering and mathematics into play and activities, and has an early childhood educator who speaks in Mandarin.

The State Government contributed $6.1 million towards the centre.

For the moment he is busy perfecting his gold award-winning chicken and banana curry pie, which he said still needed a little work.

“We all love the work and I love the baking so we keep trying and experimenting,” he said.

Animals get a blessing Lillydale Lake will host a Buddhist animal blessing day for the first time.

The Sunday 28 October event will be the 10th annual animal blessing for Nalandra Buddhist Institute's spiritual director His Eminence Zimo'g Rinpoche.

World Animal Day inspired the ceremony, which is dedicated to the well-being of all animals past, present and future.

All pets attending will receive blessing cords, blessed water and food.

Animals unable to attend or who are deceased are not forgotten.

Their loved ones can bring photographs and provide their name at registration.

"My father has now turned 100 but I intend to take him," Susie Howard told the Mail.

"Last year we were blessed with lovely weather and my father loves animals.

"I don't think he really understood the ceremony but being in an open setting, the sun spilling through the branches of the trees, seeing the dogs and being able to stroke some of them - and at the end he said to one of the organisers he felt he was in heaven.

"There just seems to be an amazing energy, which I think he must have picked up."

Ms Howard said it was a special moment in time.

"It gives such happiness knowing your beloved pet, past or present, is at the centre of this spiritual blessing," she said.

Burrinja invites artists, makers and creators who live in the Dandenong Ranges to apply for Dandenong Ranges Open Studios 2019.

Held annually in autumn, it celebrates the region's rich and vibrant artistic practice in an interactive and eclectic weekend event and group exhibition.

Burrinja's community cultural development officer Toni Main said there were five funded spaces on offer for emerging artists.

Ms Main said this could include painters, ceramicists, performers, makeup artists, costume designers, writers, graphic designers, architects, sound artists and even tattoo artists.

The Open Studios weekend has attracted art-minded visitors and tourists since 2004, and last year welcomed 7500 studio visitors.

Next year the group exhibition will be held in partnership with the Sherbrooke Art Society at the Sherbrooke Art Gallery in Belgrave.

Dr Pain puts up his hand Geoff Pain is the Health Australia Party's number one candidate for the Eastern Victoria Region.

The Monbulk research scientist will vie for a seat in the Legislative Council, Victoria's upper house, at the 24 November State Election.

Dr Pain resigned from the Australian Labor Party after 47 years membership, citing a lack of democracy within the party, sanctioning the Trans Pacific Partnership, and pressure from federal "People are looking for alternative new parties and HAP fits the bill," he said.

Dr Pain will be campaigning strongly to stop fluoridation in Victoria, which is official HAP policy.

He studied?biochemistry, chemistry, information science, mathematics and physics at Monash University, then completed his bachelor of science and PhD specialising in

organometallic chemistry.

He's since worked as a researcher in anticancer drugs, for Telstra Research Laboratories in Clayton, lecturing in photonics, and as a consultant in environmental pollution and toxicology.

Most recently he was employed as a consultant by Felton Grimwade and Bosisto's for projects in natural products and hydration.

Dr Pain said he'd reviewed extensive research over the past 17 years on the effects of fluoride on living creatures.

When not campaigning against environmental pollution and fluoridation, he has enjoyed various hobbies including rifle and shotgun target shooting, gliding, bushwalking and photography. The Eastern Victoria Region includes the Gembrook, Monbulk and Evelyn Legislative Assembly, or lower house, electorates.

Inner peace for all means the hills are truly alive

By Derek Schlennstedt In the spirit of creating a time and place to 'learn peace', the hills community and Tecoma Uniting Church came together for a peaceful festival.

At the Tecoma Uniting Church Can We Make Peace mini-festival on 22 September, Paul O’Halloran moderated a lively discussion around peace with a panel of people representing diverse perspectives and viewpoints.

Barkat, an asylum seeker and Muslim man who spent years in detention in Naura and Melbourne, suggested at the event that we have to “remove our suspicion of others who may seem

to be different, by getting know them”.

Alannah McPeake, a local Year 11 student said “when we impose beliefs on others we rob them of their freedom”.

“In order to have a peaceful society we need to allow different beliefs,” she said.

The inaugural event was not just a celebration of peace, but a challenge to all who attended to reflect on how to create peace both personally, locally, within Australia and globally.

Gary Detez, who represented the Indigenous voice, made it clear that “if we do not treat our planet with love and respect we will have no possibility of peace".

He said that the first Australians were “not connected to the land, they are the land” and others could start to “join them and walk with them as Australians together”.

Panelist Julie O’Donnell, from the Tecoma Buddhist Rime Institute, and Richard Jupp, a Catholic Chaplain, both agreed that “peace begins within”.

The event, which was held on International World Day of Peace, is a first for the Tecoma Uniting Church.

The church hopes that following its success the event will become a regular feature of its community outreach and social justice program.

During the proceedings, participants had the opportunity to experience meditation using Roderick McLeod’s soundscape and a quiet room was set aside on the day for personal reflection.

Tecoma Uniting Church and members of the community said that they intentionally worked collaboratively with the local community; wanting to provide an example of peaceful collaboration by coming together and reaching out.

“Hopefully we challenged and inspired people to better practice and embody peace,” organisers said.

Something for everyone Coonara Community House's term four programs have something to offer all members of the community.

From children to seniors looking at making new friends and learning new skills, there's something for everyone.

Christmas craft and cooking workshops for all ages will help fill those spaces under the tree, and if anyone needs tips on gardening or working with wood, Coonara Community House has the professionals' onsite to help.

"Perhaps you've always wanted to write a novel or make your own clothes? Or if you're just looking for fun and friendship, then one of the monthly community lunches, the upcycled craft group, the garden club or the charity knitting group might be of interest," Ashleigh Mythen of Coonara Community House said.

"Or, if you like a bit of a challenge, the Introduction to Plumbing for Women Course could help you save lots of money and maybe open a new career path.

"But we can also help you with career options at our over 50's Job Search Workshop."

And for those who don't like throwing things away, they can learn how to spruce old items up at the centre's clothing Repair Cafe and Upcycling Furniture Program.

There’s a unique quilting group in Monbulk helping to keep children around the world warm.

Quilts for Orphans has been around for more than 10 years and started after members heard that orphans in India slept on the floor.

They had a deeply-felt desire to do something about it.

Group members volunteer their time and talent to make quilts which are sent to orphaned children in India, China, Indonesia, Afghanistan and other places where they are needed.

To highlight the plight of children in other countries and to demonstrate the skills of quilting, the group is holding a quilting festival.

“This year, because we haven’t been able to have it at the usual location, we’re having it at Mont De Lancey,” member Annette Stone said.

“We’ve extended the time and completely changed the format.

“We’re going to have a maker marathon which is a 'ready set go' and see how much we can sew in the day.”

Ms Stone said there would be workshops and activities that revolved around quilting and were suitable for all ages.

Since the group's inception, the membership has grown to more than 20 women.

Over the span of 10 years they have created 3000 quilts which have been gifted to those in need.

Ms Stone said Mont De Lancey was a great location for the festival as quilting fit with the theme of lost arts.

She encouraged everyone to come along and to join the group if they were interested or

“It’s really about having a bit of fun, enjoying our sewing and getting together and I think that’s one of the things - you meet up with other women for a common cause and learn from each other as well,” she said.

“I think we all enjoy working on something that is going to bring comfort to people who really don’t have a lot.

“You can only have so many quilts in your home so it’s really good to be able to play with quilts and make them for a cause.”

The festival will be held at Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead, 71 Wellington Road, Wandin North, from 9 to 18 November and entry is free.

The Yarra Ranges community is invited to a day of free entertainment at the Montrose Town Centre.

The Len's Backyard Open Day will run from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturday 20 October.

There'll be entertainment for children, community and information stalls, and live music.

Yarra Ranges Mayor Len Cox has lived in Montrose for most of his life, and said he was looking forward to hosting the community day in his back yard.

"Some of you will know the Irish strawberry tree which stands outside the Montrose Town Centre," he said.

"For me, the strawberry tree is iconic to Montrose and highlights the history of the area, connection to the orchards of the Yarra Ranges and to the festive season.

"It's fair to say I consider it to be part of my back yard."

Cr Cox said guests could meet up with

council teams, including staff from Karwarra Garden at Kalorama, and enjoy family activities and entertainment from a very talented magician, circus performance and theatre.

Representatives from the council's outdoors team will have tractors on display for children to climb into.

The safer communities team will be there with Montrose CFA to talk about getting ready for the fire season.

The Dandenong Ranges Music Council (DRMC) and Ruccis Circus will provide entertainment and Eastern Regional Libraries will host a story time.

Parking is available on-site and at the Montrose Recreation Reserve, across the road from the town centre.

The entire festival will be fully accessible to people living with a disability.

Montrose Town Centre is at 935 Mount Dandenong Tourist Road.

Entry is free of charge.

A textual experience Visitors to the Let’s Talk About Text exhibition should bring their reading glasses because they might feel like they're reading a novel.

The Growing Pains display in Upwey will have patrons thinking differently about text, type and words.

Whether it is the main feature or a subtle element in a composition, text brings another dimension to artwork and Growing Pains are excited to showcase young artists utilising this graphic element.

Artists Paul Prato, Jeremy Swan and Georgia Stelle all use text differently and are exhibiting at Burrinja.

Prato writes poetry as part of his practice and has chosen one line to use, "when you are who you are", in his visual work.

This is manipulated digitally to create depth in the composition but also to create the sense of glitching.

Steele described her work as ephemeral and based around nature.

It's executed through layering, whether that be combining different mediums or collage.

With a background in print-making, her work is process-based and she said it was all in the making of the work, not just the end product.

“Both text and image can convey meaning to get audiences to think in different ways,” she said.

“As an artist I can use this as a vehicle to shed light on certain topics and create a conversation.

For Swan, text is a part of his analytical approach to drawing, assisting with the translation of what he sees into lines and tone.

Let’s Talk About Text opens Saturday 22 September at 1pm with refreshments.

Exhibition catalogues will be available for purchase on the day and the exhibition will be held at Burrinja Cultural Centre until 14 October.

Film goes far for laughs Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara Rated M Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot is an endearing yet scattershot biopic about John Callahan, a quadriplegic who becomes a popular newspaper cartoonist while grappling with alcoholism.

Phoenix portrays John with wry humour and understated pathos, and John undergoes a gratifying journey of personal growth, assisted by tough-love Alcoholics Anonymous coach Donnie (Jonah Hill) and his friendships with quirky fellow AA members.

A major sub-plot involves John slowly taking command of his life by forgiving the people who wronged him (including himself).

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot is a sensitive drama about a man healing from his past and discarding bad habits, but we gain little sense of John's growth as an artist.

Save for him sketching his estranged birth mother, to whom John feels lingering resentment for having abandoned him, his newfound artistic drive essentially appears out of nowhere.

Within the enjoyably loose pacing, the film's structure is overcomplicated, using at least three separate events as framing-device springboards for exploring John's past. This makes it difficult to pin down when (or for how long) the film's events happened.

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot is a poignant, uplifting film despite its clunky structure and strangely incomplete view of its fascinating subject's life.

The winners were announced during the National Community Bank Conference in Bendigo on Wednesday 12 September.

Since opening its doors in 1998, Dandenong Ranges Community Finance has returned more than $4.4 million in sponsorships, grants and donations to more than 470 local groups.

Chairman John Waters said it had also returned more than $1.7 million to about 350 local shareholders. He said the company had funded $250,000 for new community facilities in Upwey and Olinda, $100,000 in contributions to a community sports pavilion in Belgrave South, and $50,000 to a sporting club facility in Emerald.

"More recently, we've granted seed funding of $250,000 for a new community centre under construction in Emerald," Mr Waters said.

"These events were devastating to local communities, and the outpouring of generosity and support of Australians far and wide at times like these helps make a little lighter what are very difficult situations," Mr Waters said.

"Our community bank company is here to build communities, helping them to grow and thrive through the power of banking, and we're pleased to do this in any way we can."

Wandin goes five for five

Wandin got off to a good start, kicking 4.2, but Woori Yallock was hot on their tail with 2.3.

Wandin outplayed and outran Woori in the second quarter, holding them to just 1.5 while they took advantage of the breeze and kicked 3.5 to take a lead of 25 points into half time.

Woori Yallock could not inflict any damage on the scoreboard in the third as Wandin ran all over them, kicking 4.1 while Woori Yallock was only allowed to put on three behinds.

The margin at three-quarter time was 47 points and the last quarter was a goal feast, with 11 kicked.

Woori Yallock got a few of them early to reduce the margin until Wandin found the big sticks again to seal the deal.

It was deja vu for Olinda as they lost by two points in the 2017 Grand Final.

Olinda got off to a great start, kicking 3.2 to 1.5 to take a lead of nine points into the second quarter and the early signs were that Olinda was more in control.

Mount Evelyn came back at them in the second, kicking 2.2 to 1.1 to reduce the lead to just two points at half time.

The third quarter was tough contested footy with both sides making the use of the wide-open spaces.

The margin at three quarter time was Olinda by three points. Mount Evelyn had the ball on a string but was making hard work of it with its inaccuracy in front of goal but in the end, they prevailed and gave their supporters something to cheer about coming home with a heart stopping two-point win.

UNDER-18S Gembrook Cockatoo 12.7.79 d Healesville 6.8.44 Gembrook Cockatoo took home its first Under-18 Premiership after accounting for Healesville on Friday 28 September.

Gembrook started well, kicking 3.3 to two goals to have a lead of nine points at quarter time.

The second quarter was low-scoring with only two goals kicked, but Healesville had reduced the margin to eight points at the main break.

Gembrook came out a different team in the third and took control of the game kicking 5.1 to 2.2 to have a very handy lead of 25 points as they went into the last.

Healesville was left wanting in the last and could just not get the run it needed to try and peg back the lead.

Gembrook ran out winners by a very convincing 33 points.

Coach Steve Manning made special mention of the fire that destroyed the Gembrook pub on Monday 24 September.

NETBALL A-GRADE Olinda Ferny Creek 58 d Belgrave 51 Olinda finished Minor Premiers in 2018 and has also gone back-to-back Premiers after a win over Belgrave on Friday 28 September.

The first quarter was tight and Belgrave had a lead of one goal at quarter time. Olinda shot 20 goals in the second and Peri Stewart was on fire, shooting 15 of them as Olinda went into the half-time break with a nine-goal lead.

The contest tightened up in the third, but Olinda did increase its lead to 13 goals at threequarter time. Belgrave came home with a late charge, shooting 16 goals to 10, but the margin was too big to chase down.

Bloods go back-to-back

By Michael Doran Olinda Ferny Creek has triumphed again, winning back-to-back Premierships in the AFL Yarra Ranges Division 1 A-Grade Netball.

The Bloods defeated Belgrave 58 to 51 goals and have now won a remarkable three out of the last four A-Grade flags.

In his first year as the team’s coach, Tim Smith brought in a high-performance program based on his experience in the Victorian Netball League. “We pushed the girls outside their comfort zone, sometimes into the unknown, but we did it in a safe environment,” Smith said.

“I call it having an unconditional belief in your athletes. “We have a very close group in the team and we are also a very close club.

“We introduced a high-performance environment and focused on both the technical and tactical aspects of our game.

“Part of the challenging process was to move players into new positions, such as Elli Stewart who shifted from goal shooter into goal attack.

“These are high-end athletes so to keep them learning in a collaborative environment brings out their best.“ The teams met four times in 2018 for two wins each, but the one that really mattered belonged to Olinda Ferny Creek.

Olinda’s Peri Stewart top-scored with 37 goals, 15 of them coming in the second quarter to set up the win after scores were level at quarter time.

Lauren Bennett led the way for Belgrave with 22 goals and the best on court award went to Brodie Smith of Olinda Ferny Creek.

The team summoned up some well-known Bloods spirit to overcome serious knee injuries to experienced players that threatened to derail their season.

Smith is already looking forward to having these players back in 2019 and building on this year’s success.

With such a professional program in place it would seem a three-peat is not out of the question for Olinda Ferny Creek’s netballers.
