Australia Day Award nominations now open Nominations are now open for the 2019 Casey Australia Day Awards.

Council is encouraging people to consider nominating someone who they think might qualify to be recognised in Council’s most prestigious awards program.

Fake money fraud Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two people following an investigation into the alleged manufacturing and use of counterfeit notes.

Detectives executed a search warrant at a Berwick address this on 6 September and

seized items including counterfeit notes, a credit card and electrical equipment.

A man and woman were arrested at the scene. The 41-year-old Berwick man was charged with 23 counts of obtain property by deception. He appeared at Dandenong Mag-

istrates' Court today and has been bailed to reappear on 13 September.

A 39-year-old Berwick woman was charged with four counts of obtain property by deception and has been bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates' Court on 9 November.

Where there’s a wheel there’s a way

By Jessica Anstice Berwick's Dale Sheppard will be pushing his wheelchair in the 42km Melbourne Marathon on 14 October.

Mr Sheppard's goal is to raise $200,000 for the Starlight Children's Foundation (Starlight), an organisation close to his heart that brightens the lives of seriously ill children and their families. He aims to grant 30 wishes for 30 families.

In 1994, Starlight Foundation granted Mr Sheppard's ill brother a Starlight Wish and sent the family on a holiday, where they were all able to escape the pain of hospital treatments and just have fun.

"It all started with a joking conversation with some friends and I said "I reckon I could

push it" their response was "well on then!"" Mr Sheppard said.

"So not ever wanting to back down from a challenge I registered the next day to complete the full 42km Melbourne Marathon.

"A marathon is one of those things that I want to be able to say I've done. It's a long way but I've trained really hard since January."

Starlight helped the Sheppard family to see that no matter how hard life can be there's always something to smile about.

"There are a lot of families in the midst of challenging times and with a Starlight Wish get the opportunity to create memories that last and shift focus from hardships to fun and laughter," he said.

"If I can make this happen the 42km is really going to be worth it.

"30 Wishes for 30 Families can only happen if we all work together. If we all do a little - we will get a lot done."

Mr Sheppard broke his neck in 1997 and has since - been a quadriplegic.

"The marathon is going to be a massive challenge but I'm up for a challenge," he said.

"I'm looking forward to sharing the marathon with my mate Matt Farmilo, who with his wife Andrea were the two who issued the challenge and sharing memories with the people who have supported me during my training.

"When I complete the marathon I think I will feel happy, sad and probably completely stuffed. But to know families will be receiving wishes will fill my heart with joy."

Jail for bikie gunman

By Cam Lucadou-Wells A Hells Angels bikie gang member who shot two men in the car park of Hampton Park Tavern will be deported after serving at least six years in jail.

Vince Tominiko, 26, of Hampton Park, shot one victim in the buttocks and the other into his lower abdomen at point blank range during a relative's party early on 19 November 2017.

He was sentenced at the Victorian County Court on 7 September for intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing injury and possessing an unregistered handgun.

The two victims - who were brothers aged 27 and 21 - were among a group of nine standing in the car park about 12.45am, the court heard.

A male punched one of the victims in the head. Tominiko produced a firearm - believed to be a cut-down 0.22 calibre rifle - and shot the victim in the buttocks. At one stage, Tominiko fended off a woman who tried to restrain him. He walked to the second victim and shot him twice.

After the first shot, another male dragged the second victim to ground, kicked him and stomped on his head. Tominiko then shot the second victim in the lower abdomen at pointblank range. Both brothers were taken to The Alfred hospital by ambulance.

In sentencing on 7 September, Judge Susan Pullen noted the second victim had suffered considerably since life-saving surgery to repair part of his wounded bowel. The victim faced mounting medical and travel costs for rehabilitation. He suffered nerve damage, a fractured pelvis, and nightmares - and had since been unable to work, Judge Pullen noted.

Tominiko told police he acted in self-defence, but did not pursue that argument in court. He argued there had been "some sort of issue" at the tavern's bar that carried onto the car park, but was unable to prove the victims provoked him, Judge Pullen noted.

Judge Pullen said she was concerned about Tominiko's "likelihood of reoffending" and the "extent of your remorse".

He'd been expelled from at least four schools due to fighting. Being part of the Hells Angels had encouraged his "tough guy" mentality, a psychological report to the court stated.

"You have a number of unresolved issues.

Until you address them and change your attitude towards violence and what is acceptable behaviour, I remain concerned for the members of the community."

He also pleaded guilty to disqualified driving on the night of the shooting. t the time, Tominiko was on a community corrections order for trafficking meth and hindering and resisting police, as well as on bail for alleged affray and intentionally causing injury.

The Department of Immigration and Border Control had cancelled the New Zealand-born Tominiko's visa in May. He would be deported after his time in custody, the court heard.

Tominiko was jailed for up to eight years, four months and 49 days, with a non-parole period of six years. He had served 292 days in pre-sentence custody.

What is something people don't know about you?

Nine years ago I shaved off all of my long blonde hair. I raised money but that was not my primary motivation. I was always known as 'the girl with the long blond hair' so in my quest for self-discovery I shaved my hair to ponder the questions about who I would be if I didn't have long blond hair anymore. Spoiler alert... I was the same Carmen I always was, but now I could feel wind on my head. The responses by others around me were fascinating.

Some people mourned the loss of my hair, others told me that I was brave and children were curious and wanted to approach me (but were advised by their parents not to).

What was your most memorable moment?

Having my children was very memorable.

With my first, I had a ceaser and was a bit out of it in the recovery room, when I looked up and I thought 'why is he holding a blanket in his arms?!' and then I realised that there was a baby in it! With my second I remember her being placed on my chest and her big eyes taking it all in.

What's the best thing about being a mum?

The constant reminder to stay in the moment and be fascinated by everything around me.

And cuddles too.

What is your favourite movie?

I don't have one. I don't watch many movies and don't watch any movies more than once.

Although if I do want some escapism, I'm happy to sit down to a comedy, drama or action movie.

If you were PM for a day, what would you do?

This one is hard because I understand that change in a democracy takes time and I don't think that I could have a huge impact in one day. The best way to leverage the position for one day would be to listen to people's perspectives and information that I would only have access to as a PM, synthesis this, put my two cents in and then share these insights with the lead-

ership that would take over the next day and where appropriate, the Australian population via responsible (non-sensationalist) reporters.

At school I...... was uncoordinated. I never skipped rope or did handstands. I am changing that now. I can now skip rope and am working on double unders and handstand push ups.

Favourite holiday spot in Australia?

Anywhere with a beach or a mountain and not too many people.

Which six dinner guests dead or alive, would you invite to dinner?

Just my mum.

What's your favourite book?

I love books and read voraciously. I don't think I can pin it down to one. One that rocked my world recently is The Obstacle is the Way. Best concert you have been to?

The one in my living room where we put on loud music and dance around like crazy.

THREE ‌ Tips to getting a good night's sleep

Start calming your mind and body in the afternoon Tiring yourself through exercise will help but try to do it in the first half of the day. Four to six hours before bed, limit your intake of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine and two hours before bed, avoid using your electronic devices.

Be consistent around bedtime Avoid napping during the day, develop a bedtime routine and try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day (even on weekends) and keep your bed for sleeping only; don't read, watch TV or use your phone in bed.

Get out of bed if you can't sleep If you haven't been able to sleep after 20 minutes, get up and do something boring in dim light until you're tired and then try again. And repeat as often as needed. Write down any thoughts you're stuck on in a notepad to get them out of your head.

Woodworking is a fine gift Bob Blaker, who has been a Berwick Woodworkers Club member, for several years is also a fine leather-worker and has made several saddles for the club’s rocking horses.

Seeing as Bob will not accept payment for the saddles Pat Mahoney made a rocking horse as a gift for Bob. In turn, Bob, who has been receiving treatment for cancer, decided he would like to donate the horse to the Box Hill Cricket Club, to be used as a fund raiser for its Jane McGrath Day. This is a day when all the cricket club members wear pink hats and play with pink stumps. Funds raised are for the Jane McGrath Foundation.

The horse was duly presented to the president of the Box Hill Cricket Club, Andrew Minta, at morning tea in the Berwick Woodworkers' club-room at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick on Wednesday 5 September.

Some of the toys Berwick Woodworkers have made to give away.

Over the years the Berwick Woodworkers Club has donated thousands of well-crafted toys to several of the local welfare groups.

The toys are given away in late November each year in order that the different organisations can get them sorted and ready for their Christmas needs.

Facebook mugger grabs second chance from magistrate

By Cam Lucadou-Wells A Hampton Park man who used a Facebook buy-and-sell page to lure and violently rob unsuspecting victims has been praised in court for turning around his life.

Mabil Naghoy, 20, pleaded guilty to five robberies in which he and other males ambushed and stole two iPhones and $6220 cash from online buyers and sellers late last year.

Among his victims was a father - responding to a 'Facebook Marketplace' ad selling an iPhone X - met with Naghoy and was bashed in front of his three children on Boxing Day. A 13-year-old girl tried in vain to protect her father during the attack.

The man's primary school age sons, watching from the car were said to be "extremely traumatised" by the event, according to police.

After punching and kicking the man's head, Naghoy grabbed $1200 cash from the car's glovebox in front of the boys.

Naghoy and his associates set up ambushmeetings with victims in Hampton Park, Dandenong, Sunshine West and Melbourne CBD. They either offered iPhones for sale or responded to sellers' posts on Facebook online.

Naghoy committed the last three robberies - including the Boxing Day assault - while on bail.

He was on a community corrections order at the time.

After his arrest, Naghoy spent 40 days remanded in adult custody.

In February, he pleaded guilty at Dandenong Magistrates' Court and was bailed to a deferred sentence.

During the regime over the past seven months, Naghoy was required to live at his parents' home and to undergo Youth Justice supervision.

He was ordered to report to police three times a week, enrol in education, not associate with co-offenders and obey a night curfew.

On 10 September, defence lawyer Nick Power told Dandenong Magistrates' Court that Naghoy had "certainly engaged well" with Youth Justice, as well as studying and working a job.

Magistrate Jack Vandersteen praised Naghoy's "exceptional" performance since the spate of "serious" offending.

"You are somebody described (in a Youth Justice report) as polite, respectful and determined.

"You walk away from this process with your

head held high."

In February, Mr Vandersteen noted the "voluminous" "high-end" offending would have been "horrific" for each victim.

He said he had to balance the accused's rehabilitation with protection of the community.

"The purpose of deferral is to have you engage.

"If you engage, if you go back to school, if you stay with your family, don't commit any further offences, then ... you will not return to custody.

"However if you commit a further offence and don't comply with bail conditions, it's likely that you will receive a custodial sentence."

On 11 September, Naghoy was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order with conviction.

An Australian "cultural icon" was the star attraction at Casey Grange Village on Wednesday 5 September when the 2018 Melbourne Cup paid a visit.

The $200,000 cup, which was in Cranbourne as part of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour, was escorted into the village clubhouse by 1959 Caulfield Cup winning jockey Trevor Dyer. It was soon surrounded by people keen for a photograph or a selfie.

In the lead up to the running of the 2018 carnival, the cup will visit 37 destinations in five countries including, for the first time, the UK, Ireland and Seoul, where it will be present for the Korean Cup. "It is really about taking the cup to the people," said tour organiser Joe McGrath.

Cup Ambassador Keith Hillier, who has enjoyed a long career as a racing writer and broadcaster, said the tour was a rare opportunity for people to view the Melbourne Cup up close and even hold the famous trophy.

"It is the most famous trophy in Australia. It is a cultural icon," Mr Hillier said.

He said the cup was called a "loving" cup because of its three handle design, representing the owner, trainer and jockey.

"People love talking about the Melbourne Cup and they always have a memory to share.

People will tell me stories about when they were 15 and took a day off school and backed a winner," Mr Hillier said.

Fundraiser launch to help

By Jessica Anstice Narre Warren woman Kelly Warren was diagnosed with cervical cancer 12 weeks ago - a devastating shock to her, her husband and their five children.

There was no chance this disease was going to get in the way of her continuing to run her very own charity, BK 2 Basics.

Everyday her charity offers bread and nonperishables to families suffering hardship in her community and beyond.

Twice sometimes three times a week she also offers fresh fruit and veg.

"I first met Kelly when my husband had his third knee replacement and times had got tough, I have kept in constant contact with Bk 2 Basics and help when I can," Sarah Bateman said.

"When word got out about this diagnosis you would think it would knock you down, but no, she's continuing with her street family and helping the local community with bakery items ev-

ery day and the food hampers twice a week and she's being there for her incredible family."

Ms Bateman told Ms Warren she had contacted the Star News Group for a story, in her response Ms Warren said, "Seriously we are all good.

"Remember it's not and never about me it's about the people we help. There is always someone worse off."

She continued to say, "Ladies, I had my one and only pap smear when I was 15. I am now 47.

I was scared of a pap smear, I was embarrassed.

Don't be a cry baby like me. Go and get that pap smear, stand up, stand tall and stand proud. If you’re due or are a complete idiot like me go and get checked."

Being a New Zealand citizen unfortunately the family aren't entitled to financial benefits.

Ms Warren has 56 days of full on treatment, six weeks of daily radiation and six days of chemotherapy followed by two weeks of brachytherapy.

Berwick men took on the Kokoda Track Berwick's Michael Molloy and David Mounsey as part of the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) have just completed the most physically and mentally challenging trek along the 96km Kokoda Track which started at Owers Corner finishing at Kokoda Village seven days later, in memory of our World War II Australian Diggers.

This gruelling challenge had 18 trekkers and 22 porters (Fuzzy Wuzzies) complete the journey.

The Fuzzy Wuzzies were a necessary part in helping the men complete the trek as they carried their backpacks, set up their tents at the end of the day, and navigated them up and down the treacherous tracks, holding them and picking them up off the track when we fell over.

"Most of these porters walked in bare feet like they did when they helped our World War II diggers who were injured on the track," Mr Molloy said.

"A few of us trekkers gave our hiking boots to the Fuzzy Wuzzies at the end of our journey to help them out, as they would never be able to buy their own.

"To be one of these porters is like a badge of honour and it was a privilege to walk with them as they helped us out."

On day six of the trek the two men were descending onto a river in monsoonal rain when a landslide started on the hill they were about to climb. There were trees, logs and rocks tumbling down the hillside into the river taking everything with it, but the downside was that they all needed to get through this mess.

Very quickly all of the Fuzzy Wuzzies chopped up trees and secured ropes to try and make their passing a safe one, because there was no turning back.

These guys made a human chain and safely escorted everyone through the fallen trees, mud, debris and raging torrent to safer ground.

"It wasn't the most comfortable thing I have experienced in my life time but you move a bit quicker when the adrenalin kicks in," Mr Molloy said.

"How the locals performed displayed true heroism and would have duplicated how they looked after our predecessors fighting in the war.

Local business owner Simon Bennett will undertake the gruelling Kokoda Track in October to support ending family violence within the community.

Funds raised from the trip will go to Windermere Child and Family Services which provides family violence prevention and early intervention services in Melbourne’s south east.

Simon, the owner of Grill’d in Fountain Gate, is part of a team of 26 who have signed up to trek Kokoda and raise funds for Windermere. The team includes Simon’s brother-inlaw and nephew.

“Violence of any kind is terrible but violence within the family is even more insidious. A home should be a place where everyone feels secure and safe, for that to be a place of emotional and physical violence goes against everyone's values and must be stopped,” says Simon.

Simon is looking forward to being challenged and learning more about the history of Kokoda.

“I've wanted to trek Kokoda for many years. Once the opportunity presented itself I jumped at it. To do it with family and friends is a bonus,” he says.

Simon says he has been enjoying the challenge of preparing for Kokoda. His training involves completing long treks on steep terrain.

“I've just recently completed the 3 Capes Track in Tasmania. I've started to complete more walks up the Glasgow Track in Montrose and continue to do many walks from my home,” he says.

“I want to be part of the solution to fix family violence problems and donating to Windermere’s cause is a small part I and my Grill'd Fountain Gate business can play to effect change,” says Simon.

Last year Windermere provided counselling to 552 families and children experiencing trauma associated with sexual assault or family violence in Melbourne’s south east.

Haileybury’s best results

By Jessica Anstice Haileybury students have again produced the school's best NAPLAN results, cementing its position among Australia's best academic schools.

Haileybury students topped in all testing categories, at all levels.

A remarkable average Year 9 numeracy score of 691 placed the school's students 99 points, or several years of teaching, ahead of the national average.

The Grade 3 Haileybury NAPLAN average exceeded the national average for Grade 5 students in all areas of NAPLAN (reading, writing, spelling, grammar & punctuation and numeracy).

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy began 11 years ago to test Australian students' core literacy and numeracy skills at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

Haileybury has consistently finished in Australia's top 10 primary schools and top 10 open entry secondary schools for boys and girls.

This year an anomaly favoured 20 per cent of Years 3, 5 and 7 students who completed the writing task online as a trial. Haileybury students were not in the trial, but still performed

Council to push for reduction in roads speed limits

By Jessica Anstice City of Casey will continue to work with VicRoads to reduce the speed limit along Pound Road and Shrives Road, Hampton Park and Narre Warren South.

The current speed limit is 70km/h on both of these roads.

"VicRoads will monitor Pound Road for the speeds but they don't seem to want to reduce the speed at the moment," Cr Damien Rosario said.

"I still stand by the fact that at least

the stretch of Pound Road from the South Gippsland Highway through to Hallam Road and past Hallam Road to the roundabout at Pound Road, Shrives Road should be 60km/h.

"It is a very well used stretch of road and can also be quite dangerous."

Mr Rosario said a past report says that VicRoads do acknowledge that the visibility isn't very good on the stretch of Pound Road.

"As you elevate up you can't see what's over until as you come down," he said.

"I find that a concern and that's why I think

reducing the speed limit by 10km/h will make that stretch of road much safer."

At the 4 September general council meeting, Mr Rosario asked council to continue to work with VicRoads and to ensure residents are at ease.

In August this year, VicRoads conducted a comprehensive safety review of Shrives Road in Hampton Park.

VicRoads are currently installing a new two lane roundabout at the Shrives Road and Pound Road intersection and new pedestrian

operated lights on Shrives Road between Centre Road and Hallam Road to improve pedestrian safety.

"A review of the current speed limit on Shrives Road found the existing 70km/h speed limit to be safe and appropriate," VicRoads metro south east movement and safety acting manager Anitha Visanathan said.

"We are completing major upgrades along Shrives Road to improve safety and traffic flow.

"We will review the speed limit on Shrives Road once we complete these upgrades."

"The trader I spoke to has been a Berwick institution for a very long time," Cr Aziz said.

"The key priorities to emerge included Council increasing enforcement around schools, reviewing the supply and enforcement of disabled parking, providing more education about the use of heavy vehicles in residential areas, and sharing more information with the community around Ride Share schemes.

"As part of our commitment to the Parking Strategy we have also employed a new Parking Management Unit to commence operation in September who will be working to implement these top priorities and helping to educate our community on their importance."

Ms Williams has two children and runs a profitable business transforming health care for the community.

"I was very excited to have my name called.

I had bonded with the people on my table (many of whom I had met for the first time) and it was wonderful to have them cheer and support me," Ms Williams said.

"Winning this award honestly made me look within myself to reflect on what is important to me.

"It is nice to receive external validation but I think it is more important to measure my own success.

"Having my mum pass away this year, really made me see things clearly and reflect on the legacy that I will leave and the fun that I can have while I am here."

Narre Warren North Primary School (NWNPS) recently signed up to the Schools Water Efficiency Program (SWEP), thanks to South East Water sponsoring their program registration.

SWEP provides data loggers to Victorian schools to track their water usage which means they can detect leaks, save water and teach students about the importance of water efficiency.

Participating schools also receive access to a tailored curriculum program, which incorporates the school's water data in mathematics and sciences.

NWNPS's environment club were enthusiastic about saving water at their school. Environmental leaders Hayden, Luke, Oliver and Lyla recently spoke at their school assembly to encourage their peers to use water responsibly.

"We need to turn off the taps when we are not using them. Even if you see only a little bit of water dripping, please turn it off," said Grade 3 student Hayden said.

"Also, we could collect excess water and use it wisely - the environmental club will be look-

ing into ways to reuse excess water, such as the water used from cleaning our compost tubs to feed the garden," added Grade 3 student Luke.

With the help of their teachers, the environmental club have been proactive at checking their water usage on the SWEP portal daily and are hoping to see the school's usage decrease as they raise awareness about using water wisely.

South East Water currently has 298 schools in its service region signed up to the SWEP program - almost half the schools in Melbourne's south-east.

In 2017-18, South East Water sponsored 40 SWEP school memberships and another seven schools over the last month.

Since the start of SWEP, South East Water's schools have saved more than 913 megalitres of water, worth an estimated $3.7 million.

School’s gift set to grow Berwick Chase Primary School will receive $1000 in funding as a recipient of the 2018 Stockland CARE Grants program to purchase gardening equipment for the establishment of a new student group with a green focus.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Stockland's Edgebrook community in Clyde and will help the school to establish 'The Green Team', a group of students who will be responsible for educating the school community on how to care for the local environment.

The Green Team will also design and create a special anniversary garden to celebrate the

school's 10th anniversary this year.

Funds from the grant will be used to buy equipment including a green house, wheelie bins, gloves, pick up tools, high-visibility vests, seedling trays, seedlings, cultivation tables and raised garden beds.

Now in its fifth year, the Stockland CARE Grants program has donated over $1million to more than 1000 community groups across Australia.

More than $270,000 has been awarded to almost 300 local organisations this year alone.

The money assists with the delivery of community-led programs and services which are aimed at creating more inclusive and engaging neighbourhoods.

Mike Davis, General Manager for Stockland Victoria, said local organisations were the backbone of healthy communities and the Stockland CARE Grants helped to support a wide range of programs and opportunities.

"We are thrilled to be able to support these organisations with funding as thriving communities are built on the efforts of people working tirelessly behind the scenes to help

local residents through a range of different services," Mr Davis said.

"During the application process each group demonstrated how they would use the grant.

We're looking forward to seeing their funding being put to good use."

Unloved heritage site ‘devaluing homes’

Concerned residents of Alarah Estate in Cranbourne West are urging the City of Casey to start maintaining the poor appearance of a heritage listed property located nearby their homes.

The heritage listed property, located between City Vista Circuit and Ercildoune Court, is a neglected dilapidated house with broken windows, shattered glass and rusty metal around the property.

Resident Jennifer Fitzsimmons said when the development of Alarah Estate was tendered by Wolfdene it included a proposal to restore the house and landscape the property into a communal area.

The property was handed back to the council around three years ago.

"Nothing besides securing the house from intruders has been done for over five years," Ms Fitzsimmons said.

"This has affected the overall appeal of the estate as it lacks this integral community infrastructure and affected the value of the proper-

ties immediately surrounding the park.

Ms Fitzsimmons said many of the residents purchased their properties due to its view of the park and advertised development of the park.

"However residents only have a view of a paddock and a dilapidated house," she said.

"Myself and fellow residents would like to know when this will be rectified.

"We believe there is much potential for this property as a valuable communal area, with its well established fruiting trees and open grass area, something sorely lacking within the Alarah Estate."

City of Casey city planning acting manager Kathryn Seirlis said the Council will commence preparation of a Master Plan for the parkland surrounding the Ercildounde Heritage building in early 2019.

"As part of the Master Plan, Council will consult with the community regarding their suggestions for this property," she said.

Two young girls assaulted Dandenong Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives are appealing for information following two incidents on the same bus line two weeks ago.

Investigators have been told a 17-yearold girl was on board the 893 bus from Cranbourne to Dandenong about 6pm on Tuesday 28 August.

She exited the bus at Waverley Park Drive, Cranbourne North where a man had been waiting at the stop.

He started following the victim before grabbing her and kissing her.

The victim fought back and the man verbally abused her before producing a knife and punching her. She sustained minor scratches and the man fled.

About 2.30pm the following day, a 17 year old girl was waiting with friends at a bus stop on the Princes Highway near Harmer Road, Hallam waiting for the 2.38pm bus.

A man crossed from the other side of the road towards the bus stop and began shouting abuse at the victim and her friends.

He grabbed the victim and pushed her into a bus stop before abruptly leaving. She sustained minor bruising during the incident.

Police are warning the community to be wary of a telephone scam targeting the southern suburbs.

Members of the public have contacted police stating they have received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office and that the victim has an outstanding tax debt.

The caller further states the victim has an outstanding tax debt or arrest warrant due to the unpaid tax debt and if they don't pay they will be arrested.

The caller then directs the victim to stay on the phone and attend their local bank and

withdraw a significant amount of money.

The victim is then directed to attend a specific ATM and deposit the cash.

Dr Paul Hemming AO has announced his retirement from his role as Chancellor of Federation University Australia.

Dr Hemming joined the University Council in 2007 and was appointed Chancellor in 2012.

He presided over the University’s name change in 2014 when the institution, formerly known as the University of Ballarat, became Federation University Australia (FedUni) after expanding its reach into Gippsland. Since then new campuses have been launched in Berwick and Brisbane, and the university has undergone significant transformation.

He was appointed Chair of the Federation University Australia Foundation in 2012 and became Patron in 2016.

“There have been many challenges and highlights over 11 years, but conferring awards on thousands of our graduates, especially our first cohort in Gippsland, will always hold a place in my heart,” Dr Hemming said.

“It is so rewarding to engage with students from all our campuses, and to feel the excitement and expectation as they progress into careers where they can contribute so much into the communities where they studied.”

Professor Helen Bartlett, Vice-Chancellor and President, paid tribute to Dr Hemming for his unwavering support of the university during his six-year tenure as Chancellor.

“Paul is an extremely dedicated and giving person. His service and commitment to FedUni have been exceptional,” she said.

Deputy Chancellor, Mr Steve Davies, said the University Council was grateful for Dr Hemming’s guidance and strong leadership during a time of considerable change.

Before becoming Chancellor, Dr Hemming, enjoyed an outstanding medical and professional career. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2018 Australia Day Awards for distinguished service to higher education administration, and leadership in medicine and general practice.

Dr Hemming’s last day will be Friday, 12 October, and while he is looking forward to the next chapter in his life, he says some habits will be hard to break.

“I’m going to enjoy being at home and spending more time with my wife Linda and our family, especially our six grandchildren, but I will continue to take a keen interest in the University and its achievements,” Dr Hemming said.

The University will announce a new Chancellor in the coming weeks.

Police search for teen over series of armed robberies

The City of Casey has welcomed the announcement that the 2019 Sikh Games will be held in Casey next year.

The Minister for Sport, the Hon. John Eren attended Casey Stadium yesterday morning to announce $100,000 in State Government funding for the event, along with a $50,000 contribution from Council.

Members of the Australian Sikh Games Organising Committee were there to welcome the news, with the games scheduled to be held from 19 - 21 April 2019.

The Sikh Games will include 14 sports held across seven of of Council's facilities, with more than 90,000 people expected to attend over the three days, and 3,000 athletes competing.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett welcomed the news and said Council is over the moon to showcase its facilities and is proud of the investments made into local sporting hubs.

"We are very excited to display our sporting facilities throughout the 2019 Sikh Games and would like to thank the State Government for the funding of this great event," he said.

"Our host facilities will include Casey Stadium, Casey Fields, Casey RACE, Bunjil Place, the Hunt Club and Clyde Recreation Reserve.

"As part of our vision to become Australia's most liveable city, Council has placed a strong focus on delivering premium state of the art sporting facilities, which we are proud of today."

Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance to help identify an offender after a series of armed robberies in Hallam last month.

Four incidents occurred between 5 August and 29 August.

On each occasion it is believed the same offender has approached a number of women who were on the walking track on Gunns Road Reserve, threatening them with a knife and demanding they hand over their possessions.

The first incident occurred on 5 August about 5.45pm when a 41-year-old Hallam woman was jogging east along the track when she passed a teenager who was riding a bike in the opposition direction.

The teen came up behind the woman and produced a knife and made demands for her to hand over her possessions.

He fled with the woman's phone.

The second incident occurred on the same track on 12 August about 2.30pm.

Two women, a 55-year-old and 29-year-old both from Hallam, were walking up the hill towards the Power Road overpass they were approached from behind by a teenager.

On this occasion the offender demanded the women hand over their possessions, however the older woman used her umbrella to fend off the male and he ran off and concealed himself in nearby bushes.

The third incident occurred on 26 August about 2pm.

The victim, a 21-year old Endeavour Hills

woman, was walking along the track when she saw a teenager riding a push bike in the opposite direction.

A short distance later, the woman saw the same teen approaching her from behind.

He produced a knife and demanded she hand over her possessions.

She handed over her phone and he fled on foot in a westerly direction along the track.

The fourth incident occurred on 29 August about 4.30pm.

A woman was running along Kevin Adlard Reserve towards Gunns Road Reserve.

The victim, a 55-year-old Doveton woman, observed a teenager with a push bike on the side of the track.

She continued running and a short time later was grabbed on the left shoulder.

The woman turned and saw the same teen, African in appearance holding a sharp object in front of her.

He demanded the woman hand over her possessions and the woman ran off.

The offender fled back to his bike and rode off empty handed.

The teenager involved in all incidents is perceived as African in appearance, about 15-year-old with a skinny build and short dark hair.

A door to free study opens For Halle Taylor of Hastings, the Victorian Government's Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative offers the chance for her to study what she's been hoping for.

Free TAFE ensures eligible students like Ms Taylor from across Melbourne's southeast region will be able to access free training at Chisholm in a range of courses that lead to jobs most in demand from Victorian employers.

Through free TAFE, the Victorian Government will cover tuition fees for 20 priority TAFE courses and 18 pre-apprenticeship courses from 1 January 2019 for eligible students.

Ms Taylor has completed a Certificate III in Pathology and is considering a Certificate IV in Mental Health.

Until now, Ms Taylor and her family have found it challenging to meet the costs of vocational study, which can make it difficult for many to gain the skills they need to establish a career.

"I am passionate about my career," Ms Taylor said.

"Not having to pay for tuition fees would be really beneficial because instead of stressing and worrying about paying fees I can worry about my school work and doing the best I possibly can."

Free TAFE removes the financial barrier for students in the south-east who want to undertake quality, accredited TAFE training

that gives them the skills they need to secure real jobs building the state and caring for the community.

Victoria's unprecedented building boom of road and rail projects, new schools and hospitals, as well as increased support for Victorians living with disability and historic action to curb family violence has created a massive demand for skilled workers.

More than ever, the skills required for these high-demand jobs are learned at TAFE. "Chisholm is proud to offer these free priority courses and play our part in making sure all Victorians can get the training they need for a good job, and help deliver the skills mix needed by industry," Chisholm CEO Rick Ede said.

Chisholm is now taking enquiries for Free TAFE courses that begin in 2019.

Chisholm is offering most of the pre-apprenticeship and non-apprenticeship courses on the Free TAFE list, including Certificate II in Plumbing, Certificate III in Community Services, Certificate IV in Cyber Security and Diploma of Justice.

Learn about backyard microbats - they’re our little mates Go batty these school holidays with a special afternoon focused on microbats at the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens.

Dr Casey Visintin is an environmental conservation researcher who has studied microbats for a number of years and will reveal much about these amazing animals in a special presentation on Sunday 23 September.

Microbats are among the most common animals in suburban backyards and in bushland. They come out at night to feed on insects.

Children are much more likely to hear their high-pitched squeaks at night than adults.

The tiny creatures use echo-location (sonar) to navigate and hunt and consume huge numbers of insects each night, including mosquitoes and other pest insects. Through the day they roost in tree hollows or crevices in tree bark.

Dr Visintin will talk about how important microbats are and there will be an opportunity to see one or two living microbats up close.

This lecture is in school holidays so children are especially welcome to bring along parents and grandparents.

The talk will be held on Sunday 23 September between 2 – 3:30 pm at the Australian Garden Auditorium, Cranbourne Gardens.

Police search for gunman Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after the body of 33 year old, Clyde North man was located in bushland near Blind Bight, near Tooradin, at around 1.40pm on 10 September.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation as per standard protocol when there is a death in police presence.

Police were searching the bushland for a man who was threatening self-harm.

The man was armed with a firearm.

Traffic to Blind Bight was closed off and residents were asked to remain inside and lock their doors while the search continues.

Special Operations Group along with Critical Incident Response Team and local mem-

14yo boy arrested following shocking crash Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenage boy as their investigation into a crash in Hampton Park continues.

Investigators have been told a gold Nissan Maxima lost control at a roundabout and struck a pole at the corner of Ralph Crescent and Cornell Place about 5.30pm on Tuesday (4 September).

The car had been reported stolen from a Springvale address on 30 August.

A 15-year-old Cranbourne girl who was in the car was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Three other occupants, a 15-year-old Cranbourne East boy, 13-year-old Cranbourne girl and 14-year-old Cranbourne North boy, sus-

tained minor injuries.

The Cranbourne North boy was last night charged with theft of motor vehicle and is appearing before a children's court.

A fifth teenager, a 14-year-old Hampton Park boy, was arrested shortly after the incident and has been released pending further enquiries.

Detectives are yet to establish who was

driving the vehicle and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision, has dash cam footage or saw the car driving prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

The Berwick Pipers INC is interested in attracting new members to its group, particularly experienced bagpipe players. The group play B Flat chanters in our bagpipes as it gives them the greatest chance of helping concert bands and orchestras. The Pipers are a group of musicians who play the Great Highland Bagpipe. They have assisted Berwick Rotary on Australia days at Pioneer Park by playing in the Official Party and providing incidental music around the grounds.

They perform around the City of Casey at a variety of venues to entertain the public but we also teach learners to play the great highland bagpipe. Despite the group currently having a midyear break, lessons for their learners continue.

It’s a match made in heaven - a full-strength Berwick defending its premiership crown against the competition benchmark of the season, Narre Warren.

Names such as Tuck, Andrews, Rutherford, Magner, Smith and Riseley will clash with Collins, Scalzo, Quirk, Scanlon and McNamara.

What more could a grand final ask for? It will be tough, relentless football.

Taking away the fact that these two powerhouses clashed in the grand final last season, this Saturday looms as an epic that will have many sharp turns of momentum.

As it stands, the evenness of both teams should have an expected monster crowd in anticipation of what’s to come.

Can Berwick once again inflict the Magpies with a grand final loss and lift the premiership cup for the second year in a row? Or does Matt Shinners’ side - with all of its experience and fearless youth - turn the tables and end the season just like they began?

By 5pm on Saturday, these questions will be answered, and one team will go down as the final premiership team of the SEFNL. Back in April, Berwick coach Stewart Kemperman spoke about his side not being known as a “one-off”, and wanted to write yet another chapter, and not just be satisfied with the one premiership.

“Our club’s been around for 134 years, and we’ve only gone back to back once - if the team gets it right this years and the coming years, this Berwick side could be known as the best the club’s ever seen,” he said.

This time around, the Wickers didn’t achieve the perfect home and away season.

But something clicked as the season wore on.

Gradually, the Wickers found their mojo they defended with the stinginess of a champion team, and ran in waves, cutting the opposition to shreds when the moment to attack arrived.

Great rivals and champion teams Berwick and Narre Warren will do battle for more silverware on Saturday. 184742 portantly, had Narre Warren scratching their heads to figure out just how to bring down this champion team. The break is something Kemperman - from his experiences last year - is not taking for granted.

“The season does come with a toll - it’s (the week off) allowed us to prepare each individual,” he said.

“We should have a few boys available.”

The big stage - something the Wickers have relished in, is what Kemperman is craving, and he said the group understands what lies ahead.

“From when we knew we’d be in the grand final, as a club we’ve certainly been excited,” he said.

“It’s hard to block out (the expectation), but we’ll just embrace it - it’s an exciting week.”

Kemperman expects superstar midfielder and skipper Madi Andrews to slot straight back in to take on a brilliant Narre Warren team, who he has viewed as the “benchmark” all season.

“They are a very, very good side,” he said.

“We’re under absolutely no illusions about what they can do.

“They’ve been the form side of the year, so we know we have to be right on our game.”

For Narre Warren coach Matt Shinners - a two-time premiership coach for the club in 2008 and 2010 - he said that his mix of youth and experience can carry his team to the pinnacle once more.

“I’ve got such a young group, despite the experience of players like (Brad) Scalzo, (Michael) Collins, (Nick) Scanlon, (Trent) Shinners and (Dylan) Quirk,” he said.

“But we’ve got so many youngsters running around for us, and they’ve got to have role models.

“It not only sets us up for this year, but it sets us up for an exciting future.”

Conquering the Wickers will be no easy task, but Shinners believes if they can get it in to their electric forward line quick enough, a winning score can be achieved.

“The game will be won in the middle, and if we can get some ball through there and get it forward, we can do some damage - we’ve got a very good forward line.

“But we need to win that area, and make good decisions under pressure.”

Shinners said that the preliminary final against Cranbourne was a great chance to re-

discover their attacking flair, and was pleased with the response of his group after being challenged for three quarters against the Eagles.

“We were a lot better against Cranbourne, and we showed some great character after being just six points up with a quarter to play,” he said.

“We played a really good last 30 minutes, and managed to get the game on our terms.”

ognised for his achievements was Cranbourne legend Marc Holt, with the league celebrating his years of service and his 1000th goal as an Eagle, which was crossed in 2018.

With Holt also unable to attend the presentation evening, Cranbourne football director Manny Vella spoke about the impact the lionhearted spearhead has had on the competition, praising his loyalty, consistency and impact on community football in the region.

Other major football awards on the night went to Doveton youngster Mitch Cotter, who capped his team of the year selection with the MVP award, while Hayden McLardy and Nick Russo shared the reserves best and fairest award and Max Sheppard - the under 19 leading goal kicker - took out the top gong in the Under 19s.

In the A Grade netball league best and fairest, there was a three way tie, with Cranbourne star Tara Cecil, Beaconsfield’s Danielle Cameron and Tooradin-Dalmore’s Jess Cox sharing the award on 16 votes.

Cecil - who now has four medals next to her name - told the crowd she wasn’t expecting to once again be crowned the winner.

“I went away to Europe for four weeks, so I didn’t really expect to win it,” she said.

But she wanted to thank her club for their support over a number of years.

“It’s a lot of the girls I’ve played with over the years, a lot of them are the same girls,” she said.

“They bring me up each game - I’d like to thank everyone from the Cranbourne Football and Netball Club, everything they do is amazing, and my amazing team.”

Cameron was also awarded for an unbelievably consistent season for the Eagles, and deservingly shared the medal, while Cox - who was unable to attend on the night - was a colossal for the reigning A Grade premiers, and will be a key player in the grand final on Saturday.

Premierships and league best and fairest medals seem to go hand in hand for Berwick star Madi Andrews.

The Wickers skipper will be hoping he can make it three from three after claiming the Norm Walker Medal at the South East Football Netball League presentation evening on Monday evening at the Cranbourne racecourse.

Andrews - who is certain to return for the grand final on Saturday against Narre Warren after being injured the last month - took out the SEFNL’s top honour for the third term, just edging out Magpies legend Michael Collins by just a single vote.

Ironically, Andrews won the medal in 2015 and the Wickers went on to claim a premiership, and then last year, the champ achieved the very same feat.

Andrews played 15 home and away matches this season, and despite a slow start to the year, managed to claim the maximum votes on four occasions, and finished on 20 votes.

His gut-running and incredible ability to win the football was on show for all to see in 2018, and as he slowly warmed into the season, Andrews once again proved his standing as the best player in the competition. His best on ground performances came in Round 4, 10, 13 and 14, and also polled votes in Round 1, 2, 8, 9 and 11.

Berwick president Glenn Gambetta accepted the award on his superstar’s behalf, with Andrews unable to attend the awards.

Andrews told the News on Tuesday that he was humbled to win the award for the third time.

“I was a bit shocked - I thought there was probably a few of my mates at Berwick that had better years, but it’s a great honour,” he said.

“It was a bit of a disrupted year, I popped my shoulder out a few times, but I’m proud of the season.”

While Andrews acknowledges the incredible achievement of winning a third Norm Walker Medal, winning a premiership on Saturday with his mates is the only thing that matters.

“I’m definitely proud of it (winning the medal) - but for me, I only play footy for three reasons, to play footy with my mates, have fun and to win premierships,” he said.

“A few things went wrong this year, but as a group, we’re relentless, and its how we have got through this year.”

Andrews also confirmed that he will take his place in the grand final after missing almost a month with injury. He said he can’t wait to get out there and lead his team.

“I probably could have played a bit earlier, but there was a risk of re-doing the injury,” he said.

“I’ve been working extremely hard in rehab, and I’m ready to go.”

Pies rise for the occasion

By Nick Creely SOUTH EAST FOOTBALL NETBALL LEAGUE REVIEW - PRELIMINARY FINAL It was a game that had almost everything. Until midway through the final term, a grand final spot was truly in the balance.

Both Narre Warren and Cranbourne electrified the crowd in an absorbing preliminary final, moving the ball with speed and skill to put on a show for a sizeable crowd at Pakenham’s Toomuc Reserve.

In the end, it came down to which side could capitalise at crucial times, and as they have been for the entire season, Matt Shinners’ boys came out on top and earnt themselves the right to meet Berwick in what looms as a grand final for the ages.

Despite a masterclass by Marc Holt - who compiled one of the great finals quarters of recent memory in the second term - the Magpies had their noses slightly ahead at every change, and responded every time they were challenged.

It’s the mark of a good side.

In a fluent, fast starting game, the Eagles could only score through Holt, while the Magpies used their speed to get it in to forwards Mitch Cox (two goals), Aaron Wilson (two goals) and Nick Scanlon (one goal) quickly, taking in a 16-point quarter time advantage.

Desperate to cut out the running power of Nathan Foote, Trent Cody and Hayden Stagg - who were all finding plenty of space in the middle - the Eagles became more aggressive, isolating Holt in the second.

And he took complete control of the game.

With the crowd on his side, it loomed as the biggest headache for the coaching box of the Magpies.

Powerless to stop the momentum of the 1000 goal legend, Holt was masterful on the lead, in the air and on ground level, snaring three and having a hand in several others to see his side claim the lead.

But a classy goal to Jack Toner, followed by a sublime leap and major to Cody saw the Mag44 STAR NEWS

pies steady late and reclaim their control over the contest.

The midfield battle began to even up in the second half, with Luke Bee-Hugo in particular a standout in the third quarter, booting three goals - including a dashing, team-lifting major to finish the term and bring the margin at the final break to just one straight kick.

Shaun Marusic, Michael Wenn and Anthony Vella all started to get their hands on the ball, helping their side mount a charge.

The tension was palpable as both sides emerged from the huddle, with one side playing their final quarter of the season.

Sensing the moment, Mitch Cox rose high to pluck a big grab early in the final term, slotting the most important goal of the day.

Only moments later, young defender Jesse Davies bravely jumped in front of a contest with Holt coming like a steam train the other way, taking an incredible intercept mark that resulted in a 50 metre penalty.

For such a young kid, it was a moment that had the Narre supporters in awe of his willingness to put his body on the line for his team.

Those little game changing moments began to be won by the Magpies, who were placing the Eagles’ defensive unit under serious heat.

Steve O’Brien’s side had urgency, taking the game on at every cost, but the likes of Davies, Col McNamara, Joel Zietsman and Ryan Quirk repelled everything.

Holt breathed some life into the contest by snaring his fifth goal with around eight minutes left to play, but Brad Scalzo put the game to rest and the Eagles’ resistance ended after snapping a goal only seconds later.

The Magpies slammed on another couple to bring the margin out to almost five goals, and have advanced through to yet another grand final.

On a day where each team was tested at various points, Dylan and Ryan Quirk, Nathan Foote, Cody and Cox were all influential for the Magpies, while Holt, gun defender Brandon Osborne and champion midfielder Ryan Davey were all valiant.

Casey prepared for prelim

By Hayley Wildes Having earned a week off after demolishing Geelong by 91 points in the qualifying final, the Casey Demons return to action this Saturday as they look to book their place in the VFL grand final.

Casey's opponent Essendon has come from the clouds, roaring into the preliminary final having beaten Collingwood and minor premiers Richmond in its two finals games after finishing eighth on the ladder.

"They've got incredible momentum and they've had a really good run coming into this weekend," Casey captain Jack Hutchins said.

"We're all really excited about the weekend and hopefully we've created something where it doesn't really matter who we play, our brand can hold up when it needs to."

The Demons had a minor hiccup in the final two home and away season games, but rediscovered their identity against Geelong by playing the Casey brand of football - a tough and uncompromising thirst for the contest.

"We pride ourselves on the contested ball, being aggressive at the contest and outnumbering at the contest," he said.

"To me, that's certainly what transpired [against Geelong] and it was one of those games when everything just clicked and every player played their role."

Casey and Essendon have met once this season and the Round 13 clash was an enthralling battle. In windy conditions at Craigieburn, the Demons claimed a hard-fought eight-point win.

In his first season at Casey, coach Jade Rawlings has turned his team into a defensiveminded and ruthless outfit. Their willingness to firstly compete at every contest and then spread with width and use the ball with composure makes them a tough team to crack.

Rawlings' season was recognised at Monday night's VFL Best and Fairest when he was awarded 2018 VFL Coach of the Year. Having led his team to a 14-4 record, finishing the home and away season in second position, it was some very well-deserved recognition of a coach who has brought his team together.

"Full credit to Twiggy (Jade Rawlings) - he's had a great year and he's a fantastic coach to play under," he said.

"The same with the two boys who got in the VFL Team of the Year - Corey Wagner and Jay Lockhart - they've had tremendous seasons

Teams for Saturday's game are yet to be named, but Casey will most likely boast the likes of Melbourne AFL-listed players Tom Bugg, Jeff Garlett, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Jayden Hunt, Declan Keilty, Harrison Petty, Tim Smith and of course Cam Pedersen - who finished equal fifth in the 2018 J.J Liston Trophy at Monday night's best and fairest.

While there is plenty of skill and experience among that group, the VFL-listed players are just as important and have consistently stood up for Casey. Corey Wagner, Jay Lockhart, James Munro, Josh Wagner and the skipper have been vital to the Demons' success.

Hutchins has been a part of some tough finals losses with Casey over recent years, highlighted by the 2016 grand final loss to Footscray, but he believes the resilience of the 2018 Casey Demons makes them a different side to previous years.

"In times gone by, there has been games when it's only taken 10 or 15 minutes when sides have got a run on and we haven't been able to peg it back," he said.

"The group we have this year is really resilient in terms of in any situation, we've been able to work through it and I think that's showed in different games throughout the year."

Casey faces Essendon on Saturday at North Port Oval from 2.10pm.

Falcons soar to grand final as footy reaches fever pitch

By Hayley Wildes SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 2 - PRELIMINARY FINAL Keysborough almost pulled off one of the great comebacks against Highett in their preliminary final on Saturday but fell agonisingly short.

The Burras will be kicking themselves about their slow start that saw them trail by 39 points at the first break. Highett came to play and Keysborough was left reeling, but the second quarter was the start of a spirited Burras fightback.

As Cory Hargreaves (three goals), Riet Pal and Michael Downie got heavily involved, Keysborough fought tooth and nail for every ball, reducing the margin to 20 points with a quarter to play.

In a back and forth final quarter, it was on for young and old and when Chris Bryan kicked his third goal of the quarter - and sixth for the match - the Burras trailed by just four points with eight minutes to play.

The final few minutes of the game were frantic as Keysborough searched for the match-winning goal, but a late Ed Turner major gave Highett some breathing room and they held on for a 14.15 (99) to 14.4 (88) win.

Highett moves onto the grand final and will face the Doveton Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barker Oval. The Doveton Eagles will enter the grand final as clear favourites, having soundly beaten Highett in their semi final clash two weeks ago, 18.20 (128) to 10.9 (69).

will face off in the grand final on Sunday afternoon at Power Reserve. Springvale Districts claimed two wins from three meetings this season. In Round 16, the Dees claimed a comprehensive win over the Falcons, 13.9 (87) to 3.7 (25).

DIVISION 4 - GRAND FINAL Lyndhurst was unable to overcome a goalless opening term in its grand final match-up against

Cerberus on Saturday at Keysborough Reserve.

League-leading goal kicker Hamish Browning did all he could, but the Lightning couldn't get their offence going, falling to Cerberus 12.14 (86) to 8.6 (54).

Despite having kicked just four goals in three quarters, the Lightning was still in with a sniff, trailing by 23 points with a quarter to play.

Lyndhurst kicked three of the first four goals in the final quarter to trim the deficit to 11 points with 15 minutes remaining, but it wasn't to be as Cerberus responded with three of the final four goals.

Browning booted six majors in a dynamic display, while Jesse Walia and Anthony Besim also produced fine performances.

For the premiers, Samuel Corcoran and Jimmy Miller (three goals each) played pivotal roles in helping their team claim the flag.
