MILESTONE FOR PARKLEA FOUNDER IN 1968 a young Andrew Facey started what would become a long and successful career in real estate. The grandson of Frank Facey, founder of Frank Facey Real Estate, Andrew rose from salesman to director and partner of the firm, taking the reigns from his father Angus in the 1970s. “When he started to let Andrew and I run the business we weren’t very old; in 1975 I was 30 and Andrew was younger than I,” said former Frank Facey Real Estate Director and long-time friend of Andrew’s, Brendan Rice. “Andrew was a gun salesman. Dandenong was starting to boom and there were lots of subdivisions, so Andrew became the go-to man,” said Mr Rice. At this time Andrew’s interest also turned to property development and in 1974, Parklea was born. “I was excited by the idea that I could be a part of building communities - places where people could live, work and play,” said Mr Facey. “That idea drove me to property development and later became Parklea’s ethos.” Parklea is now the biggest broadacre land owner in the Cardinia Shire and has residential and commercial developments from Gippsland to the Great Ocean Road. Recent developments in the South East include Timbertop Estate (Officer), Kaduna Park Estate (Officer South), Arena Shopping Centre (Officer), and Heritage Springs Estate and Heritage Springs Shopping Village (Pakenham). BUYING INTO MND FIGHT FOR THE LOVE OF THE BOSS STAFF at Pakenham’s O’Brien Real Estate have joined the fierce fight against motor neuron disease (MND), inspired by the heart-breaking ordeal of a company director. The tight-knit team have ordered more than a dozen “Big Freeze 4” beanies to raise awareness for the cause. While the headwear will keep their scalps warm during chilly weekend inspection mornings, their campaign has a more sentimental purpose. It comes two years after corporate director Stavros Ambatzidis lost his beloved father, Nick, to the illness. For Pakenham property consultant Brendan Langley, it was the least he could do to support those in need. “I’ve been involved for a number of years because I think it’s a great cause,” he said. “Usually I’d do it myself but as soon as I mentioned it to the staff, they were all on board to get a beanie and help out. “They were extremely enthusiastic and supportive of the idea. “We’ve obviously had one of our directors very closely touched by MND, so the company is very enthusiastic to provide support.” Every day in Australia, two people are diagnosed with MND and an additional two die from it. The condition - neurological and terminal in nature - deprives patients of their ability to walk, to hold a cup or shower unaided. It can cost as much $70,000 to buy the equipment a sufferer needs to fight the disease. MND Victoria helps by lending that equipment, free-of-charge. O’Brien Pakenham director Rob Capuano said the MND initiative coincides with the efforts of the recently launched O’Brien Foundation. “It’s a good cause that everyone can 2

TIMBERTOP residents are getting fit, having fun and getting to know their neighbours thanks to the estate's new netball team. The idea for the netball team came from a Timbertop resident who approached Community Development Officer Tammy Radford after taking part in a free yoga class hosted by estate developer Parklea. "The residents loved this opportunity to attend a yoga class within their estate and they loved meeting their neighbours," Ms Radford explained. "As a result, one of the residents asked if I would consider looking at putting together a mixed netball team." A Facebook shout out soon had enough interested players to register a team with the Pakenham Netball League. The Timbertop Netball Team plays in a mixed competition on Wednesday nights at Cardinia Life. "The great thing was that except for one married couple, not one single person knew each other, so again it was an opportunity for residents to meet and connect and make new friends," Ms Radford said. Timbertop resident Sally Groeneveld

said she was enjoying playing netball again for the first time in 20 years. "Thank you to Tammy and Parklea for supporting the initiative to form a Timbertop mixed netball team," Sally said. "For some of us it has been 20 years since playing and so far we are all having such a great time playing, forming new neighbourhood friendships and overall loving the workout." Parklea pays the team fees and weekly player fees, while building firm Orlara Homes has supplied the team polo shirts. General manager Brad Davidson said as a locally owned and operated company, Orlara Homes was keen to support community development. "We employ local staff and think it's important to support community events and sporting teams," Mr Davidson said. "We have been around for 43 years and we want to see the community thrive." Cardinia Life has also extended a charitable hand, offering to host a collection bin to support Parklea's upcoming winter food drive.
