The much-awaited opening of the extensions to Rose City Shoppingworld - including the new Coles supermarket - is finally here, or at least it will be this Saturday. The project is one of a number which are currently injecting investment into Warwick and surrounds, including the expansion of the Regency Park retirement centre and upgrades to the John Dee abattoir, another couple of major local employers. It's pleasing to see investor confidence in the Warwick region, and of course the Rose City redevelopment means more jobs for locals. In this week's edition we've featured many of those new Rose City Shoppingworld businesses - along with some of the existing ones - all of whom will be looking forward to benefitting from the extensions. It's also a win for shoppers, with many new retail options. The hope will obviously be that it will discourage retail 'leakage' to places like Toowoomba, and more reasons to shop and spend locally. TRAFFIC LIGHTS CALLED FOR Traffic lights have been recommended for one of Warwick's busiest and most dangerous intersections. Minutes of the meeting of the Southern Downs Regional Council's Road Safety Advisory Committee in March show the Warwick Police support the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Victoria and Albion Streets. The minutes note the police as confirming there have been "two crashes recently at the intersection due to people disobeying the stop sign". "It would be ideal if the intersection could have a traffic light as it is one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections," the minutes state. "There are a lot of near misses with people becoming impatient trying to turn right or straight across Albion Street as there are long wait times to make this manoeuvre." The committee recommended the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and the council "look into options including a road safety campaign and possible traffic lights".
The meeting noted there had been 21 road crashes across the Warwick and Stanthorpe regions since the committee last met in November last year, including a fatal accident at Spring Creek on the New England Highway near Clifton. Another issue discussed by the Road Safety Advisory Committee last month was lifting the speed limit near the bridge on Freestone Road from 60 to 80 km/h, noting this could be done as part of an upcoming project to replace the bridge.

Widening of the highway just outside Warwick at the intersection with Yangan Road was also discussed, along with planning for a safety upgrade at Accommodation Creek south of Stanthorpe, noting there is "still a long process ahead to secure funding for the detailed design and then all the steps required prior to reaching the construction stage." State Government funding for the Accommodation Creek works is yet to be confirmed. ●

Following international and national operatic awards and recognition, Emily has taken on many roles in a range of familiar operas including Dame Nellie Melba in Waltzing Our Matilda and Gilda in Rigoletto. DETAINED IN CUSTODY A Toowoomba woman charged over the brutal assault of a 15 year old Warwick girl last October remains in custody following her most recent court appearance last week. Shannon Angela Williams, 18, appeared in the Warwick Magistrates Court last Thursday 29 March via video link, with her application for bail release being denied. A 16 year old female also charged over the bashing, who cannot be named as she is a minor, also remains in custody. Both are charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm, after the vicious attack on the 15 year old in the early hours of October 12 on Canning Street. The girl was left with severe head injuries and was placed in an induced coma from which she later recovered. ●

HIGH DEMAND FOR HI-TECH eaders may recall our cover story from a couple of weeks ago on Warwick-based commercial drone operator Josh Plowman - well, Josh isn't the only Warwick technology success story hiding their light under a bushel. While agriculture remains far and away this region's chief economic driver, many locals may not realise we're also something of a hub for hi-tech manufacturing. Peter Rodeck's firm Environdata has been leading the way nationally in automated weather stations for around 35 years now - and is about to embark on its next stage of growth. The firm - which employs 12 staff -

expects to shift from its current unassuming digs in two former old-style residences on Percy Street to a new, purpose-built 600sqm factory in the industrial area behind Black Toyota, next to Ranbuild and We R Signs, by the middle of this year. The big move is being driven by Environdata's continual expansion, with demand for weather data increasing across a host of industries both here and overseas - with 20 per cent of their business being done overseas, primarily in China and the Middle East. The new site will allow Environdata to triple the size of its production area, which is currently somewhat cramped. "It's standing room only in here right now," Peter Rodeck jokes about his firm's current premises.
"We're growing, but I guess it's a good problem to have. "We've increased our staff numbers by four in the last 12 months. "Up until five years or so ago we were just manufacturing weather stations, now we're installing and servicing them - we have four guys now who are travelling Australia doing that. "We are seeing demand from the agricultural sector - feedlots and abattoirs in particular - and the industrial market as well. "In the 90s we had a lot of demand from the cotton industry, where (chemical) spray drift is a big issue. "Then from 2000 onward the demand started to come from the mining sector mining has had a downturn but it's starting
to come back, it's not all doom and gloom. "About one-third of weather station use is driven by environmental regulations but the lion's share of what we are doing is in some way assisting a business, not just complying with regulations." Environdata's weather stations provide bottom line-critical, real-time data to their customers and things have changed a lot since the firm first broke into the market back in 1985, with Peter fairly sure his was the first operation of its kind in the country. 'Back in the day' as they say, their first weather stations held just 1800 bytes of data - which for the non-tech oriented is really, really small - and it has to be remembered this was all before laptop computers. "We had to build our own laptops," Peter recalls with a laugh.

"Back in those days our stations only generated one daily weather summary - now we are updating minute-by-minute. "That's actually better than the Bureau of Meteorology, which updates its data hourly. "These days our customers interact with our server, which is in Brisbane, where it has to be for power and security and backup reasons - plus we just wouldn't get the internet speed we need here in Warwick. "We went over to the server model three or four years ago - before that our customers would download our software on their own computer and they would be responsible for monitoring their data, and we'd have to educate them on how to do that. "Now they essentially log on to our server on a device or computer and access their data that way - they can also get historical data and graphs."

More about Environdata ... · Environdata supplies and installs around 200 of its automated weather stations a year - with roughly a two- to four-week turnaround from when a customer places an order. The father and grandfather of a Stanthorpe boy accidentally shot in the face earlier this year have appeared in the Warwick Magistrates' Court charged over the incident. Roberto Gabriel Calvisi, 29, and Antonio Giovanni Calvisi, 63, both appeared in the court last week. Roberto Calvisi has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of weapons and Antonio Calvisi has been charged with insecure storage of a weapon. The matter was adjourned until Monday 28 May. Five-year-old Cameron Calvisi was seriously injured after a young cousin accidentally shot him with a .22 rifle on the family property at Cottonvale on Tuesday 2 January this year. The boy required several rounds of surgery and is making a continued recovery. ●

NEW ROLE FOR SEE Former Southern Downs Regional Council Engineering Services director Peter See has been appointed to a senior role with Paroo Shire Council, based in Cunnamulla. The SDRC refused twice in recent weeks to confirm or deny if Mr See had left his role, following community speculation. Minutes of the March meeting of the Paroo Shire Council show Mr See has been appointed its Chief Operations Officer. The minutes indicate he was the only interviewee for the role.
The SDRC had not yet advertised its vacancy at time of printing of the Free Times this week and has not advised who is acting in the role. ●
QUEENSLAND-FIRST ALGAE FARM APPROVED Goondiwindi Regional Council last week approved an application by Woods Grain to develop a seven-pond algae farm and a reservoir - the first commercial venture of its kind in Queensland. The development will utilise new technologies in low-cost sustainable algae cultivation alongside innovative harvesting systems. The Omega-3 product from the algae will be trialled as a food supplement to the Woods Grain feed mill on the neighbouring site. While the Omega-3 product is commonly used for human health purposes, its use as a high-protein livestock feed is a new concept and it is hoped the trial will open doors for brand new agricultural industries in the future. Mayor Graeme Scheu acknowledged that the development was a very sensitive issue for the community due to the unprecedented nature of the project. He said the council took into account the 13 properly made submissions as well as a petition that had been presented at the previous meeting. "Many of the 13 submissions shared common issues - concerns of health, odour, dust, mosquitos, noise and
environmental impacts," Cr Scheu said. "After considering the proposal, council imposed a total of 48 conditions - from waste retention and pest management plans through to noise, landscaping and hours. "Each condition was debated individually by council at the meeting." ●
RFDS BACKS TEXAS AIRSTRIP UPGRADE The Texas airstrip has been selected to receive federal government funding to invest in its provision of potentially lifesaving transport services. It was announced last week that the Texas airstrip would receive $11,250 of subsidy funding under Round Five of the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program following a successful application by the Goondiwindi Regional Council. The funding is a 50 per cent subsidy and the council will match the same amount for the project. The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) commenced daytime medical retrievals from the Texas airstrip in August last year. The RFDS inspected the airstrip and approved it for operations but suggested the proposed upgrades to bring the Texas airstrip to a suitable standard. Six emergency evacuations were completed at the Texas airstrip in 2017 since the inspection in August. One evacuation was severely disrupted in November when the RFDS aircraft became bogged, highlighting the urgency of the upgrades. ●

YOUR GUIDE TO THE NEW SDRC BUDGET BY JEREMY SOLLARS Ratepayers are looking at a rate rise of 2.75 per cent in the 2018-2019 Southern Downs Regional Council budget. Draft budget papers presented to the March council meeting last week show the projected rates, capital works and surplus forecasts for next financial year. The draft budget shows the proposed 2.75 per cent rate rise - applying to general rates and waste, water and wastewater charges - will raise $55.26 million for the council next financial year. Rates in the region rose by 3.4 per cent in the current financial year and the council has factored in an annual 3 per cent rise going forward indefinitely. The SDRC is one of a number of Queensland councils currently on the State Government's 'watch list', with its financial performance being monitored by the Queensland Audit Office and the Queensland Treasury Corporation. The draft budget also shows the council is expected to generate a surplus of $19.2 million in 2018-2019, below the surplus projected in the current budget of $24.14m. The proposed capital works program for the region for 2018-2019 is worth $45.73m, up $4.22m on the current year. In a statement released last week Mayor Tracy Dobie said the "good news" was that the draft Budget "forecasts a very good operating surplus of $643,000 as well as a further reduction of council's debt by around $1.5 million". "This means that as council repays its debt and repayments decrease, greater funds will be available for future Council projects and will give Council a higher level of financial flexibility," she said. IT is exciting news that the final phase of the redevelopment of Rose City Shoppingworld will be opened this coming Saturday 7 April. The McConaghy Group is pleased to announce the expanded Shoppingworld is now complete. The basement extensions, new travelators, new vehicle ramp and new mall entry are all open for use. Managing Director Robert McConaghy said the Group was "delighted to welcome Coles to Rose City and are excited to reveal their latest offer to the Southern Downs". "The new store looks fantastic and even has a view over Leslie Park," Mr McConaghy said. "The Coles team has worked hard to make the store the best it can be and I congratulate them." The redevelopment at the shopping centre has been a massive undertaking and the McConaghy Group would like to acknowledge the Southern Downs Regional Council for its efforts and cooperation. Having worked closely with the council over many years to bring this to fruition, the shopping centre group has managed to have kept major retailers concentrated around
the main street. This has been enhanced further by adding to the parking amenity of the CBD with many more undercover car spaces now available right in the centre of the main shopping precinct. This is a result that would be the envy of many regional cities and their planners. The McConaghy Group and Rose City have many people to thank. Home lending experts are on hand WESTPAC'S 2017 Home Ownership
Report reveals first home buyers1 have significantly reprioritised what matters most when searching for their ideal home. The research, commissioned by Westpac in September, surveyed over 1,000 Australian home owners and first home buyers, and features trend data from the past two years. The latest report demonstrates in 2017 first home buyers are less focused on buying a home in an area that is trendy or close to work, with both significantly decreasing in the ranking of 'essential features' by 83% and 48% respectively, compared to 2016. A quiet neighbourhood, access to public transport, and safety are features that have also become less important during the decision-making process, with each decreasing by 37%, 21% and 9% respectively. Head of Home Ownership for Westpac Group Andy Wright said in the face of housing affordability challenges and rising household costs, the research suggests first home buyers are becoming increasingly flexible and willing to shift their priorities in order to achieve their ultimate goal. "These attitudinal shifts among firsthome buyers towards home ownership suggest we may see more looking to buy in areas that they hadn't considered, with many previously thought 'essential' features now just 'nice-to-have'," Mr Wright said. "In fact, the market saw home loans to first home buyers rise to a four year high of 17.4% in September of this year, which suggests we may be already seeing the positive results of these shifts, combined

First home buyers are turning their attention to the inside of a home instead, as modern bathrooms and kitchens become more essential, increasing by 25% and 10% respectively since 2016. Nearly one in five first home buyers plan to support the purchase of their first home with help from family or friends, including guarantor loans. Meanwhile, home owner-occupiers are opting to maximise their current home and are increasingly considering renovating, growing 14% since 2015.
The number of those considering selling a home has decreased by 11% compared to last year, bringing it back to the same level as 2015. "Our data shows that home owneroccupiers are increasingly choosing to focus on improving their current home rather than selling and relocating," Mr Wright said. "The majority of home owners (62%) prioritising renovating plan to use their savings as their main funding method to renovate, and 17% of home owners who are dipping into their savings will complement this with their home loan,
possibly accessing the equity they've built up. "No matter what your housing priorities are in the next year, it is important to do thorough research, make a realistic plan, and consider the best pathway to purchase that suits your individual situation. To use his own words his "parents and grandparents and uncles and aunties" have all been in the fruit and vegetable trade - and he thinks seven-month old son Cooper might have it in the genes as well. Justin and wife Lauren established Rose City Fruits in October last year and are committed to bringing locals top quality produce with the right taste and price. As well as buying from local producers when in season, Justin makes several trips every week to the Brisbane Markets - with a 3am start. "We have a pretty simple philosophy - we buy the best of what's available at any given time," he said. "All of our tomatoes are local, along with zucchinis and stone fruit when it's in season. "The most consistent feedback we've had has been about taste - we've had customers say they haven't tasted fruit like this before, which is terrific." Locally-grown figs are particularly popular right now and stone fruit has been as widelyconsumed as ever of late. Justin and Lauren employ 12 staff and are hoping to expand once the redevelopment of Rose City Shoppingworld is fully complete, with plenty of foot traffic passing Rose City Fruits from the new mall from Fitzroy Street and Coles. QUEEN’S BATON PROUDLY BORNE The Queen's Baton made its triumphant entry to Warwick last Thursday, 29 March, ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games which commenced this week. The Baton was carried into Leslie Park to a rousing reception from locals by William Reardon, aboard his polocrosse mount 'Sinny' - the only baton bearer in Queensland to ride a horse. A community celebration was held in the park, including performances from local school children. From there the Baton did the rounds of Warwick, proudly borne by around 17 of our local baton bearers. ●

RICH HERITAGE TO BE CELEBRATED From Friday 20 to Sunday 29 April, this year's Southern Downs Heritage Festival will celebrate the history of the Southern Downs as part of the Queensland National Trust's Australian Heritage Festival, where the 2018 theme is 'My Culture, My Story'. Details of events of the Southern Downs Heritage Festival will be posted on the Australian Heritage Festival website at www.nationaltrust. org.au/heritage-festival-qld-2018) and will also be available on the Southern Downs Heritage Festival's Facebook page. Festival organisers say they are "very excited that there is great enthusiasm amongst our community groups from all across the Southern Downs", with more than 30 events to be held over the 10 days of the Festival. Warwick was the first free settlement in Queensland. This whole area was opened up by Patrick Leslie and his two brothers George and Walter Leslie. It was the "way in" for settlers heading to the rich fertile Darling Downs as Brisbane had restricted entry to those who held a special permit. The First wine region was originally near Warwick. The Assmanhausen Winery established in the mid1800s at Sandy Creek was a great exporter of German style wines to England and countries of Europe up until the Second World War. While some of the Festival activities will be free entry, some will charge a small entry fee - with something of interest for all members of the family. Jingeri, Gidday or simply Hello from GC2018. As this edition of the Free Times is put to bed things are heating up on the Coast. Our local baton relay runners shone last week in front of good crowds in Warwick. Now as the baton makes its final run towards the Opening Ceremony the once-sceptical local community on the Coast are getting behind the event. Large crowds are following the progress of the baton and you can feel the momentum building. As a volunteer I was one of a large crowd who attended one of the dress rehearsals for the Opening Ceremony and was impressed with what I saw. While the whole event will be far more spectacular on the night it is certainly going to highlight all that we love about our Gold Coast, with lots of references to our Indigenous community. I am preparing for my first shift at the Coomera Indoor Stadium which has been purpose-built to host Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Netball. The new stadium is quite amazing and shapes up as one of the major legacies of the games, and I am thrilled to be part of the action. Borobi, the games mascot, is certainly proving popular with locals and visitors alike and pops up everywhere around the coast. Borobi is a koala with fur the colour of the ocean and a passion for surfing and adventure. The mascot was inspired by a drawing by Brisbane school teacher Merrilyn Krohn, the winner of the GC2018 Mascot Design Competition. Borobi - the
indigenous Yugambeh language word for koala - will play a key role in welcoming the athletes of the world and bringing to life the true spirit of the Games. It is said that Borobi's outgoing and positive personality invites the world to Share the Dream(TM) of GC2018. THE SPIN
FALLOUT FROM CRICKET'S BIG SAGA DIFFICULT AND SOMETIMES CRUEL The Cricket saga has been difficult to watch play out and sometimes cruel. Thankfully things seem to have settled down as the Aussies fight for a draw in J'Berg. Boof finally fell on his sword apparently after seeing the distressing Steve Smith press conference. From all the reports and interviews, it seems clear that coach, Darren Lehmann was blindsided by a Warner led, Smith supported and Bancroft co-opted plan to ball tamper. What I found interesting was the venom directed towards Dave Warner by the media. He has already admitted to being the villain in the incident but his reluctance to answer if others were involved drew plenty of criticism. I wonder what the reaction would have been if he had pointed the finger towards three of four others - I imagine he would have been howled down for throwing someone under the bus and not accepting responsibility. Interesting to hear some of the comments from retired fast bowling legends one of which said he would have known if someone other than himself had spat on the ball. A point which raises its own set of questions. Serious sanctions have now been handed down. Whether they fit the crime is open for conjecture and no doubt will play out in the appeals process. Irrespective of the result of the final Test or of the appeals we expect to be confirmed in coming days or who takes the coaching reins going forward as cricket fans we all hope that the Australians will surprise everyone by the way they play - the next cricket chapter has begun. Let's hope the focus remains squarely on the game. VERY LITTLE EASTER JOY TIPSTERS There was precious little Easter cheer for many tipsters over the long weekend. Was the Easter Tipping Bunny kidnapped by the football equivalent of the "Grinch"? The Dragons and Warriors are now four and zero and while the season is still very new if you had suggested these two teams would be leading the way after round four even their most ardent supporters would have been calling for the men in white coats. While there are several results that blindsided tipsters it is refreshing to see some of the lesser fancies having such success. The Cowboys looked far from their slick and sleek best and for the first time in a long time had their pants pulled down at 1300 Smiles by a Panthers side who are shouting finals material at every outing. Tipsters should have run up the white flag then and there because that was just the start of the rot. The wheels look to have if not fallen off become very shaky in the Storm camp although after a game where 33 penalties were blown it's hard to judge who was on and who was not. Sure Bellamy and Sharks coach Flanagan will be addressing the penalty issues this week. Cam Smith found himself in the naughty corner for the first time in 12 years and looked a little lost as he left the field looking for the sin bin. The Bunnies did the right thing given it was Easter and all and scraped home with a come from behind win over the Doggies. Greg Inglis is slowly working his way back to his best. Bulldogs fans must be frustrated. Their team is playing well but is only one from four. Swaying towards the Sea Eagles sans Trbojevic Panthers to inflict more pain on the Eels NIT PICKING OR TAKING CONTROL There is one thing that has galvanized all fans in the opening weeks of the NRL season and that is the outrageous penalty counts. Thirtythree in the game against the Storm and Sharks two of our top teams. There are two schools of thought - One is that it is over the top nit picking. The other that the refs are just doing their job (finally). Rugby League has been bent out of shape in recent years by coaches exploiting some of the rules as refs allowed for a free-flowing game with low penalty counts. Canny coaches have coached the offside rule and the wrestle to slow down the playthe-ball and other tactics which the fans hate. The game went this way with the scrum years ago and now everyone realises what we have lost. Too late that horse has bolted. Why there were 33 penalties in the Cronulla-Melbourne game? Because there were at least 33 infringements. With former South's coach Michael Maguire taking up residence in the ref 's camp the cat is out of the bag. As fans we have all been crying out for these areas of the game to be cleaned up - now people are crying over the penalty counts and the stop start effect on the game. We as fans should be careful what we wish for. - The genie is out of the bottle now and it looks like it is the players and coaches who will have to change because it seems the referees aren't going to. Simply players are being asked to adhere to the rules. Referees are finally enforcing the rules, they haven't made any new ones. Penalty counts like we saw on Friday are not good for the game and I am sure we will not see a repeat performance as coaches and players get their head around the whistle. freetimes.com.au

LAST SUMMER START The golf croquet brigade hit the court last week for the final time at their summer start time of 8.30 as the days grow shorter and winter isn't that far away players will no doubt be happy going forward to enjoy the 9.00 am start and that extra half hour indoors. Numbers were up for the first game of the week in this popular mallet discipline. Bev Sullivan and Val Fancourt were the first pair to hit in their game against Elaine Brown and newest player Kath Hopgood in what was an excellent game. Three players scored six apiece and the other five. The more experienced duo of Sullivan and Fancourt went on to record a narrow 2-11 win. Kath Hopgood may be a newbie but she is learning fast and it looks like she will be a force to be reckoned with. Dianne Wren (7) and Justin Liddy (6) both played extremely well to defeat Teresa Pyne and Pauline Inglis 13 - 7. Sharyn Roser and Judy Lock were left to play two balls each in a game that Roser won 10-7. Numbers thinned after the break and the remaining group of six played a very social game of triples. Elaine Brown Dianne Wren and Justin Liddy had a 10-6 win over opponents Bev Sullivan, Pauline Inglis and Sharyn Roser. Wren and Brown topped the scoring over the two games, each scoring 10 hoops. A reminder to visitors and locals the welcome mat is always out for anyone who would like to have a go at the most informal of the croquet disciplines or would just like to know a little more. MAKING THE MOST OF GOOD CONTIIONS In the lead up to Easter Mallet Players made the most of the good conditions. In Association Croquet games played on Tuesday, March 20th Jenny and Peter Tunbridge scored 22 hoops against the team of Effey Russell and Pat Schnoor. The final score in a close game was 23-22 to Russell and Schnoor. Heather Widderick and Val Fancourt proved no match for Grace Howard who had a 21-14 win. In week's games Effey Russell took on Val Shepherd and Heather Widderick and went on to win 26 - 14. Peter and Jenny Tunbridge teamed up again and this time scored a 15-13 win over Joy Newman and Val Richardson. Ricochet has resumed on Thursday mornings. Margaret Dickenson partnered Bron Southgate in a game against Sharyn Roser and Peter Tunbridge. In was a close game that ended in an 18 all tie, scoring
honours were shared by Dickenson and Tunbridge who each had break of two. Andrea Denkewitz played one out against Jenny Tunbridge and John Draper and had a comfortable 26-13 win. Breaks of two were recorded by both Andrea and Jenny. After play in Gateball was washed out in the previous week players got together on Good Friday for a few games. Andrea Denkewitz and Sharyn Roser formed one team, while Val Fancourt. Bill Golding and Joy Newman made up the second team. Val, Bill and Joy had the best of the day's play, winning three of the four games. In game one they had a 15-9 win. The second game ended in a 10 all tie but was awarded to Fancourt's team after a count back. Their opponents finally found some forma and a little Easter luck in the final game scoring a 15-7 win. HUNTER AND KELLY - GET THE CHOCOLATES In a good team performance Max Hunter and Rick Kelly combined to win the Easter medley 4BBB Stableford played on Saturday. The pair returned a combined score of 50 points for the round. It was Kelly who was the mainstay on the front nine which saw the pair card 25 points. On the back nine Hunter took the reins leading the scoring for seven of the nine holes. They carded another 25 points. Santo Cavallaro and Ian Henderson believed they were in with a winning chance after they also returned 25 points on the front nine and knew that scoring wouldn't be easy after the greens had been cored during the week. They returned 22 points for the back nine but it was not enough for a win. They were however rewarded with the runners up prize. The day's event was sponsored by club member, Ian Harvey, and the club is not only grateful to him for supplying the trophies for the day but also for bringing along a few Easter visitors to swell the field. Alan Accurate Kerr went sooo close to achieving a 'hole in one' at the third hole. From his tee shot the ball came to rest just a few centimetres from the pin. He missed that elusive hole in one but on the flip side he did get his birdie and the "play of the day". Tom Fittock collected the pin at 12, Kay Webb at the ladies three while Lyn Ludlow had best approach at 17. Pro-pins went to Darryl Boekholt at 1/10, Mike McAuliffe at 5/14 and Rob Rigg (Toowoomba) at 9/18. In the run down, Brendon Barker and

The Final award of the day went to Aaron Simmers and Linda Kelly for their valiant efforts over a very trying 18 holes. As April has rolled around Saturday's play will be for the April monthly medal and putting competition. The day will be sponsored by club captain, Richard Reardon. Tee off is scheduled from 11.30 am and there is a time sheet on the board. TRL BACK AFTER BREAK The TRL competition kicks into full swing this weekend after the Easter break. Warwick will host the Goondiwindi Boars on Saturday in Under 18 reserve Grade and A Grade with games starting at 2.30pm at Fr Ranger Oval. The Cowboys will be looking to get their season back on the winning track after going down to Dalby in all three grades at their last outing. At Platz Oval Wattles host Brothers will be looking for another A grade win after beating the Hawks in round Two. The reserve grade side will be hoping to go one better than their 28 all draw with Gatton. Fans will be hoping the Under side play better than they did against Gatton were they were on the wrong end of a big scoreline. The main game is set down for a 7.00pm kickoff. In the Clive Berghofer second division Stanthorpe play their second TRL game at home when they host Toowoomba Brothers and will be hoping to open their winning account. down for a 2.10 pm start on Sunday LADIES SHOWING HOW TO PLAY THE GAME While the reputation of the Australian Men's cricket team is in tatters the Aussie Ladies are a beacon of shining light after winning the final of the T20 tri series in India last weekend. One of the stars of the show was Warwick product Delissa Kimmince who took two wickets in the final. Meg Lanning and Elyse Villani have belted Australia to a 57-run defeat of England in the final of the women's TriNation T20 series in India. In a thrilling series which included a hat track to Megan Schutt in an earlier game against India the Australians posted 4-209, a record score for women's T20 internationals in the final against England. In an inspired innings in the final, Captain Meg Lanning hit 88 not out off 45 balls including 16 fours and a six. Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner gave the Australians a solid foundation early in the innings to leave them at 3-66 in the eighth over, before Lanning and Elyse Villani (55* off 30 balls) smashed their way to the record. England made a disastrous start to its run chase on their way to 9-152, with opener Bryony Smith run-out without facing a delivery and never recovered. Shame we have not heard more about the success of this team and less about the indiscretions of the men. ●
