A group of Cranbourne East residents infamously featured on national media have denied claims that they are vigilantes or part of a ‘No Fear’ gang. It comes after police raided two properties following the airing of an A Current Affair (ACA) feature on Monday, 5 February which showed residents using deadly weapons such as a compound bow and nunchakus to protect themselves against a spate of burglaries. Cranbourne Police Sergeant Graeme Pearce said a pair of nunchakus was among “multiple items” seized at one property on Tuesday evening, 6 February. He said a Cranbourne man; aged about 50 years old was summons to court at a later date for weapons offences. Another male, he said, “had nothing of interest” to police. A resident, Dion Watling, said he owned a compound bow but was “disgusted” by claims he was a human-hunter. “I have a compound bow to go out rabbit hunting and deer hunting. That’s it. It’s not for turning around hunting humans.” “If I was in fear of my life and I saw blokes coming towards my house with weapons, I would go for a butcher’s knife, a compound bow, whatever I’ve got to deter them,” Mr Watling said. “If my life is in danger I will kill the b****** if I was left with no other alternative.” “I’m not a violent person; never have been. I don’t want to use it (compound bow) and I dread the day that I have to.” Mr Watling, who was taking legal action against ACA, said the ACA producer Luke Mortimer even tried to push him and the other neighbours in getting “together like we’re a big gang.” “This bit about Wolf Creek being my favourite movie, that’s crap. They didn’t even ask me any of that s***,” he said. Mr Watling said police raided his house on Tuesday evening, 6 February but they did not seize any items. He said he patrolled the streets at night because of the lack of police presence but adds “I don’t carry any weapons with me.” “We’re ringing the police and they’re not turning up. We do have people here that are petrified.”

Gun ute pursuit arrest By Brendan Rees Detectives have arrested a 36-year-old man following a dramatic car crash in Cranbourne on Monday 12 February. Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives say the man, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday and was currently assisting them with their inquiries. A firearm was also recovered during the course of the investigation. It comes after two heavily tattooed men, believed to be carrying a firearm were on the run after overturning a car just metres from a home in Cranbourne on Friday 9 February. Investigators believe the man was driving a stolen car that crashed into a road sign on Monahans Road just after 9am. The man fled the crashed car before getting into another stolen car, driven by a second man, police say. The pair, believed to have been in possession of a firearm, then rammed a police vehicle which had attempted to stop the car at the intersection of the South Gippsland Highway and Camms Road. A short pursuit followed but was terminated shortly after for safety reasons. There was no injuries to police members. The two men were believed to have travelled in a black Toyota Aurion sedan with registration WPQ300, which was last seen on NarreWarren Cranbourne Road. Both are perceived as Caucasian in appearance and heavily tattooed. One was wearing a blue singlet. … BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE The editor’s desk It’s easy to have tremendous sympathy with the victims of crime - not least because there are currently so many of them in our community. When it comes to easing the fearrs of actual and potential victims, police of course have a role to play, as does the justice system and the courts in general. But some members of our community, rightly fearful particularly of crimes against the person, now seem to be testing the boundaries of self-defence. Firstly, they need to understand that bodily harm from crime remains far more rare than ordinary thefts and crimes against property. And secondly, that a vigorous response on their part, if not tempered, has the potential only to inflame the situation. Much of the fear comes from the most extensive reporting of crime the nation has ever seen. In print, on the airwaves and in blossoming social media, the old theme of “if it bleeds, it leads” has never rung more true. All these outlets are delivering what their viewers, listeners and readers want. The danger comes when community members then over-estimate the actual prevalence and effects of crime in their communities. And what we can never allow is for good-intentioned citizens to take the law into their own hands. The concern, always, is that an enthusiastic over-reaction can put the purported victim in a position of facing charges themselves. Every citizen at all times retains the right to self-defence - but the concern comes when well-intentioned amateurs potentially go rogue, with devastating results for all concerned. As in all such matters, the desires of self-styled vigilantes to act for the good must be tempered with a realistic grasp of their limited legal freedom of action. - Jason Beck

Drugs seized in dawn raid By Brendan Rees Drugs including ice, cannabis and ecstasy have been seized after police raided a Hampton Park property early morning on 9 February. Dandenong Divisional Response Unit members arrested a 27-year-old Hampton Park man after drugs were allegedly found inside the home at about 5am. Investigators also seized a quantity of prescription drugs along with a small amount of cash. The male was charged with traffick methylamphetamine, possess methylamphetamine, traffick cannabis, possess cannabis, cultivate a narcotic plant, possess ecstasy, four counts of possess prescription drugs and deal property suspected to be proceeds of crime. He was bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 16 April.

John Glazebrook's letter (Berwick Star News, 1 February), is correct about the wasting of ratepayers’ monies on junkets by City of Casey Councillors. In the same issue of your newspaper is a report about a campaign “Commit to Casey", a campaign that will cost the Casey ratepayers anywhere between $1-$2 million. The people to blame for the utter, and disgraceful waste, of ratepayers’ monies, by Casey councillors - whom I might add are continually bleating they need to increase rates annually - are the electorate, who blindly vote along 'party’ lines. Dangerous drivers engaging in hoon behaviour should have their car crushed “without any opportunity for negotiation,” Casey councillors say. Councillors voted at last November’s meeting to write to the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition calling for tougher penalties - but have yet to receive a response. “We haven’t heard back on anyone either side’s policy on crushing cars,” says Cr Amanda Stapledon. “I’m really keen to see if someone’s going to pick it up (council’s letter) because I think it’s going to be a huge disincentive to hoons if they’re going to lose their cars.” “What’s something that absolutely defines them (hoons)? It’s their car and so if you say these are the consequences they might think twice about the hoon related behaviour,” she said. Cranbourne Highway Patrol Sergeant Pat McGavigan said “It’s about being in the right place in the right time to catch them (hoons)”. He said police would take whatever action was appropriate to deter high risk driving. “If they spin the wheels, we’ll impound their vehicle, if they exceed the speed limit by 45 or more we’ll impound the vehicle.” “But we hope we’ll catch them before someone gets hurt because ultimately that’s what we’re trying to stop.” “They (hoons) are taking the risk they could hit a young child which is the last thing we want to attend,” he said. Families fed up speeders Speeding motorists are putting lives in danger along Paterson Drive in Lynbrook - with cars likely to “end up in someone’s backyard,” a Casey councillor has warned. Councillors Damien Rosario and Wayne Smith called for something drastic to be done to slow traffic on the road which is already 40 km/h. They were alerted to the problem after residents complained on their Lynbrook Social Page on Facebook about hoons driving at terrifying speeds. “Patterson Drive is a very narrow, very scary type of road,” said Cr Rosario during a council meeting held on Tuesday, 6 February. “It’s only meant to be 40 km/h but drivers (hoons) are going a lot faster than that,” Councillors voted for council officers to investigate the issue of hoon driving on the road, and in particular a request by residents for consideration of the installation of trafficcalming measures. Council will also consider the use of a speed-alert trailer as well as requesting Victoria Police to patrol the area. Cr Rosario, who has supported residents’ concerns recently for lights to be installed at Banjo Paterson Park in Lynbrook which also faces Paterson Drive, says pedestrians were at risk of hoons. “If you drift a bit, you’re already in the other lane.” He added: “One wrong move, you’re on the footpath, you’re in someone’s yard.” “To me it’s a very scary road actually.” Cr Rosario and Cr Smith say the installation of speed humps may not be the best outcome cranbournenews.starcommunity.com.au

Cr Smith said Paterson Drive was “such an attractive road for speeding because there’s nothing there to prevent you from doing it.” Lynbrook Residents Association President Jason Wood said in addition to Paterson Drive, Hutchinson Drive and Elliott Parade also annoyed residents with “poor drivers”. “The big problem is that these are residential areas with people trying to sleep at night, or children playing during the day,” he said. “Some of these are purely hooning, but others, especially Hutchinson and Elliott, are just constant poor driving with high speed and crossing traffic lines.” Mr Wood said the situation “definitely need to be looked at,” suggesting a stronger police presence. Cranbourne Highway Patrol Sergeant Pat McGavigan said Paterson Drive was not on their list of high priority roads in relation to monitoring hoons. “If we are aware of complaints of hoons and potential high risk driving we’ll take whatever action is appropriate.” He added: “We hope we’ll catch them before someone gets hurt”. According to VicRoads, there were no serious injuries or fatalities recorded in the year to August, 2017 on Paterson Drive, which is owned by Casey Council. What is something people don't know about you? I grew up on a dairy farm on the Mary River near Kenilworth in Southeast QLD. My parents were Dutch migrants and we travelled to Australia on a Lockheed Super Constellation chartered by the Australian Government. It took four days to make the journey. As a five year old I still remember the huge flames erupting from the rear of the engines. What was your most memorable moment? Apart from the usual such as getting married to my wife of 45 years and having four children and 12 grandchildren, my most graphic memory was watching my 3 year old brother, my mother and Grandfather fall through the ice as they took a last walk on the canal before departing for Australia. I watched as they finally found my brother and tried in vain to revive him. His little coffin was placed in our lounge and I remember almost being envious that he was now in heaven with Jesus. What would your last meal be? I love the sauerkraut and German sausage meals they serve in the pubs in Hahndorf South Australia. Matched with a VB it's amazing. Flathead tails freshly caught at Wilsons Prom are also amazing. What event, past, present or future, would you like to witness? I would have loved to be at the fulcrum of history - the crucifixion of Jesus and to witness the universe changing events that took place that day. Probably a long way back with the other disciples as the history of the world changed forever. What is your favourite television show? For it's incredible compassion and respect for the dignity of the poorest in society I can't go past Call the Midwife.
What is your favourite book? That's easy - The Bible, especially the Gospels. The Narnia Chronicles are also special. What six guests, dead or alive, would you invite to a dinner party? Jesus of Nazareth, Mother Teresa, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, George Whitfield, Bono, Corrie ten Boom What has been your most embarrassing moment? Telling a joke to half a dozen colleagues and my former College Professors and getting the
punchline wrong so it made no sense. Also at school I was initiated by having my face planted in a cow pat but I accepted that as par for the course. I managed to win most academic awards, win every running race except the 100 yards dash and become a House Captain but I also led a gang of shanghai (slingshot) wielding boys in our constant gang battles. O the joys of a country school with 45 minute Little Lunches for playing endless games of cricket.

For the next little while, Pakenham cricket legend Eddie Lewis may just be unrecognisable to generations of locals. On Saturday at Toomuc Reserve he sat still as the hairs from his bushy, white, iconic beard blew away in the breeze all thanks to another iconic Pakenham figure, Graham 'Uncle' Treloar. Eddie hadn't been seen without a beard for over 45 years, but that all changed on Saturday as part of the Pakenham Cricket Club's Pink Ladies Day to raise awareness of breast cancer and funds for the McGrath Foundation. Hundreds of ladies gathered around the RL 'Cracker' Jackson Stand on Pakenham's front oval to watch Eddie do his bit for the cause as his stunned family watched on. "I felt a bit rough at stages, but we got there," Eddie said after the shave, which was a key component of the cricket club event that raised a staggering $10,487 for the McGrath Foundation. "When the beard was half off and I felt that side of my face, I thought this is a bit of a worry!" After the shave, back in the rooms, Eddie admitted he became emotional - particularly when presented with a Mark Knight caricature of him with his beard. "I was talking to a lady who'd gone through breast cancer and she just about had me in tears," he said. "I just said 'I'm only shaving my beard off you've gone through the hard yards. "Whether my beard grows back or not isn't a major drama, but you've got to go through life getting tests all the time which is always a worry in the back of the mind'." ANZAC spirit lives By Brendan Rees Emily Gardiner is eager to keep the ANZAC spirit alive. The Alkira Secondary College year 11 student is one of 22 student recipients of the Premier's ANZAC Prize who will visit Canberra in April. Emily's winning entry, an essay which reflected on Australia's war heritage has earned her a spot at the Premier's ANZAC Day luncheon after being announced as a regional finalist on the 5 February. The 16 year-old said it was an honour to be chosen. "I would just like to say the study tour that I have been awarded is a fantastic opportunity to
learn about Australia's war history," she said. "I am extremely excited to travel to Canberra in July and it is a privilege that I was chosen as a candidate from all students in Victoria," she said. In the July school holidays, Emily will also spend three days in Canberra visiting the War Memorial, Parliament House, Australian Film and Sound Archive, National Portrait Gallery and other places of national significance. Rider taken to hospital A 48 year-old Cranbourne North truck driver came to the aid of a motorcyclist after a collision on the Monash Freeway on Tuesday, 13 February. It is believed a motorcycle clipped a grey Toyota RAV4 and crashed into the back of a stationary truck on the Monash Freeway near Springvale Road in Mulgrave at about 6.10am. The male rider, a 35-year-old Langwarrin man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver and the driver of the car, a 21-year-old man from Rowville, were both uninjured and stopped at the scene to assist.

Tomorrow's cricket stars will soon be enjoying better facilities at Lawson Poole Reserve Cricket Oval, with the announcement of funding through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund - Cricket Facilities. Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera announced a $100,000 funding to upgrade facilities at Lawson Poole Reserve Cricket Oval on 15 January. The ground is the home of the Cranbourne Meadows Cricket Club and the funding will enable Casey City Council to go ahead with the Cricket Oval Surface and Irrigation Upgrade. The project is one of 25 across the state in this round of funding. The projects are part of a four-year initiative by the State Government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to improve cricket participation opportunities for all Victorians. Funding of up to $100,000 is available to local councils or organisations for development of new facilities - or the upgrade of existing
cricket facilities - at clubs around the state. Works can include upgrading change rooms, developing training facilities such as cricket nets, improving access for players and visitors, and ground surface/draining improvements. Mr Perera said Victoria was the fastest growth state for cricket and was honoured in creating better facilities for the next generation of international superstars. "This funding will inspire even more Cranbourne boys, girls, men and women to sign up for the mighty Cranbourne Meadows Cricket Club and enjoy the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle," he said. School drop-offs on the rise By Brendan Rees Parents say it’s important for their children to walk to school but only a third think it’s safe for them to do so. New figures from the LiveLighter public health education campaign revealed one in four parents say a lack of safe routes or personal safety were reasons their children did not walk or ride a bike to school. The campaign’s survey of 2000 adults also showed 64 per cent of Australian children were driven to school most days. This is despite more than 50 per cent believing it was important for children to be able to walk to school without adult supervision. City of Casey delivers the largest school crossing program in Victoria with 190 crossings and provides more than 11,400 hours of pedestrian crossing supervision per year. The man, who wished to be known as 'JMM' says he retired in 2016 after working 21 years as a storeman but says his fortnightly pension of less than $300 was too low to pay off his home. JMM says he's still very fit and healthy and highly motivated to work, adding he would take any job. "They called in me for some interviews but nothing has happened," he said. The judge noted the accused had also paid little heed to his community corrections order. "He does what he wants," the magistrate said. The couple had since varied the order to allow the accused at her home but it was too late for him. His corrections order was cancelled and he was sentenced to two months' jail. The man was bailed to appeal the sentence at the County Court of Victoria in April.

Fernando was a pure professional and it’s great that his pups are doing so well and that breeders are using him. “The Wheelers are still breeding litters but not as many as they used to. The West Gippsland Warriors will take a mixture of youth and experience into their assault on Division 2 of the VCCL’s Melbourne Country Week next week. More than half of this year’s 15-man final squad are returning players from the group that emerged victorious from Division 3 last year. Skipper Dom Paynter and vice-captain Aaron Avery will once again be joined by Mark Cooper, Chris Bright, Rob Elston, Josh Lownds, Ben Spicer and Jason Williams while Tooradin star Tom Hussey has also joined the mix. While a number of other, experienced players were unavailable for selection this year, WGCA Country Week coordinator Phil Anning said he and the selection panel are “absolutely rapt” with the final squad. “Dom had a good chat to the young blokes in the side on Sunday and told them to just enjoy the experience,” Anning said. “We’re really looking forward to taking Nick Sadler, Mitch Cammarano, Mitch Thomas, Tyler Clark and Kallan Braid-Ball. We just think that those five young blokes will bring some youthful enthusiasm, and they’re in good form too so they’ve deserved their opportunity to go. Once we knew some of our more experienced players were unavailable for whatever reason, we had no hesitation in going down the path of taking some of those kids. “When you’ve still got a blend with blokes like Huss (Hussey), Dom (Paynter), Robbie (Elston), Wombat (Bright), and Coops (Coop-
er) it’s a good mix and I think the boys will equip themselves really well. “They played a very important part last year in getting us up into Division 2 so it’s really good that they want to come back and cement and consolidate our position in Division 2 for years to come. In the past we’ve been promoted and dropped back pretty quickly the next year or two, so what we want to do now is consolidate our position in Division 2 and really give a good account of ourselves.” The Warriors will open their campaign on Monday at Yarrambat against Bendigo and District before also taking on the South West Cricket Association at Ivanhoe, and Sunraysia at Greenvale. For 14-year-old rising baseball star Marcus Graham, it's all about achieving his goal of making the Australian team to Panama. The Berwick City Cougars youngster, who also attends Beaconhills College in Berwick, is hopeful that he has done enough for the selectors to have no choice but to pick him for the Under 15 World Cup, which kicks off on 10 August. Only recently, Marcus returned from New Zealand, as part of Australia's World Cup qualifying team from 18 to 21 January, and said it was a great experience in learning more about the game. "I just did the Under 16 Nationals in Blacktown, and from that they chose bottom aged kids to go to New Zealand for the Under 15 World Cup Qualifier, and we played Fiji, New Caledonia and New Zealand," he said. "I was really excited, I didn't think I was going to get in but I did." Marcus' baseball journey takes him back to childhood, where he tried other sports but settled on the sport he felt most passionate about. "I started T-Ball when I was five, and I just kept doing it; I did heaps of sport, like tennis, swimming, basketball, and karate, but chose baseball," he said. But the road to Panama is going to take a lot of hard work for the ambitious youngster, who acknowledges he still has some areas he'd like to improve on, but has strengths that he prides himself on. "I feel like my defence is better than everything else I do; I usually catch, and when I don't catch, I play a bit of outfield," he said. "They will announce the squad a month before they leave; I still need to improve my hitting and everyone keeps telling me that. "I need to swing faster and with more intent to hit it harder. "And when I strike out, not showing you're upset is important; when you're in tourna-

Berwick: Can they Bear it? By Nick Creely DDCA TURF 1 REVIEW - ROUND 10 (DAY ONE) If Berwick is going to play finals this season, the first hour of day two will be the most telling. On day one; in the most crucial Turf 1 match of the season; Hallam edged its nose ahead to bring itself one step closer to cementing itself inside the top four, and pushing the highly fancied Bears to the sideline once and for all. Hawks skipper Steve Gilmour elected to field at Hallam Reserve and despite a solid start to openers Jordan Cleland (11) and Darren de Souza (9), Gilmour (3/29) brought the undoing of the pair, taking three wickets in a matter of balls. Experienced duo Matt 'Cheeks' Chasemore (64) and Nathan Pilon (41) rebuilt the ship, with Pilon playing the aggressor and Cheeks playing the occupier, and the pair put on 63 runs to level out the first session. Young gun Jordan Hammond (2/37) then managed to trap Pilon in front with a searing delivery, and once again the Bears lost a clump of wickets to be 8/124. Chasemore remained steady despite the middle order collapse, defending solidly on the good balls and cashing in on anything loose to pull out his trademark pull shot, and partnered with a more restrained Jarrod Goodes (17 off 65), the two rode a wave of Hawk momentum to pull their side out of a hole. After putting on a grinding 38 runs, the Hawks rallied late to remove both Chasemore and Goodes to bowl the Bears out for 163. It left 11 overs for the home side to bat through, and despite some pressure filled moments, experienced openers Leigh Booth (9) and Ben Hillard (3) were rock solid to finish on 0/13, leaving the Bears with plenty of work to do early on day two.
Down at Casey Fields, a sensational performance from an emerging Cranbourne has Dingley in danger of ending the round on the bottom. Eagles stalwart Cam Kelly (4/9) was the engineer of a stunning bowling performance, skittling the lowly Dingoes for just 48 in 30.3 overs, with only three batsmen reaching double figures. Without regular opener and coach Matt Hague, the Dingoes were made to look second rate by Kelly and his band of bowlers in Tim Fathers (2/14), Steve Miller (1/16) and Josh Dinger (3/9). At stumps, the Eagles raced to 5/133. Heinz Southern Districts also had a day out at Park Oval against premiership favourites, Buckley Ridges, racking up an imposing first innings total. Batting all day, the Cobras made 290, with Adam Semmens (89) and the ever reliable Michael 'Slick' Davies (73 not out) slicing eight sixes between them. Narre Warren also enjoyed another impressive weekend, with young gun Imran Laghmani striking his second century in a row to put North Dandenong to the sword. A more resilient Magpies outfit were sent in at Sweeney Reserve, and once again it was Laghmani (113) and Janaka Liyanabadalge (55) that steered the home side in the middle order, with the pair putting on 120 runs, only a week after sharing a 204 run partnership. Laghamani struck 15 elegant boundaries and a maximum in a cruisy innings as he starts to take the DDCA by storm, while Liyanabadalge played a second fiddle, as the Magpies scored 268 in 74 overs. Mordialloc, meanwhile, continue to snarl at the right time of the year, and finished day one against St Mary's in a strong position. The Bloodhounds made 197, and took a late wicket to leave the Saints 1/2 at stumps.

By Nick Creely For a day and a half, the young Casey-South Melbourne side certainly took it up to the benchmark of the competition, and they almost walked away with a memorable victory. While the Swans lost at Schramms Reserve in the Saturday/Sunday clash to reigning premiers Fitzroy Doncaster, it made two great strides in its season, climbing off the bottom of the ladder and showing enormous fight and pride. Big Trent Lawford (4/55) struck early, removing both Dev Pollock (2) and Luke Manders (6), to expose an inexperienced middle order into the fray. Michael Wallace (22) and Chris Benedek (37) did a fine job in getting the scoreboard ticking over, and put on 42 runs to set up a decent platform. But the wicket of Benedek; courtesy of consistent spinner Ejaaz Alavi (3/32); also brought the undoing of Lachlan Sperling (5), Wallace and then Dylan Hadfield (11), and suddenly the Swans were 5/84. Youngster Joel Mitchell (55) and pace bowler Brendan Rose (62) then got together, combining resilience with class, to spend some valuable time out in the middle, and the pair put on a brilliant 92 run stand. The pair both crossed their maiden first XI half centuries, in a milestone for the two talented players, as the Swans reached a competitive 211. The Lions were shaky on day two, with Rose (2/38) and Jackson Fry (1/34) taking three early scalps as Nathan Lambden (leg) missed with injury, and suddenly the Lions were on the back foot at 3/13. Skipper Peter Dickson (90 not out) oozed class and eventually the Lions fought to a hard fought four wicket win, with Lawford (42 not out) helping guide the home side to victory. But Swans coach Prabath Nissanka was proud of his troops for fighting tooth and nail; especially with the bat; and almost clinching the upset of the season. Cranbourne clean sweep CRANBOURNE BOWLS It was a happy day at Cranbourne on Saturday with all four sides recording wins and the midweek ladies team continuing its winning streak. Cranbourne chief Chris Griffiths was giving high fives to all club members during the night as Cranbourne celebrated. "This is a great day for the club, the ladies side just keeps on winning and is sitting on top of the ladder, the top side is sitting strongly in fourth spot, while the second side is in third spot, the third side is making a run for finals and the fourth side is undefeated and on top of the ladder," Griffiths said. It was a tough day at Hampton Park for the Division 2 side with Cranbourne chasing the lead for much of the day until the last few ends when, with a lot of determination, they hit the front and won by three shots. Skip Neil Drummond and his rink of Ron Lyfield, Paul O'Day and Maree Taylor were outstanding, winning by 15 shots. The combination of Neil as skip and Ron as third was an inspirational change by the selection committee, which paid off handsomely. Cranbourne 85 defeated Hampton Park 82. For the Division 1 ladies side, a 25-shot win against Berwick was a great result with another strong display of bowling by skip Freda Farrall and her team of Maree Taylor, Joyce Pearce and Kath Dudink, who won by 16 shots. Skip Sue Hudson also had a good day with support from Lynne Wood, Shirley Venville and Isobel Partington, who won by 9 shots. Cranbourne 68 defeated Berwick 43. A huge 55-shot win at home against Berwick was a welcome result for the Division 3 team. Skip Sue Hudson had a great day with an impressive 19-shot win with some high standard bowls played by her and her team mates Joe Byrne, Chris Griffiths and Tony Collins. Not to be outdone, Skip Peter Colthup, Noel Hardy, Stan Myers and club legend Ray Boskell also had a great day with a 17-shot win. Skip Gerry Dudink and his crew of Roger Roscoe, Nick Arnold, and a steady-as-always Vic Butera won by 16 shots. Cranbourne 100 defeated Berwick 45. Cranbourne's Division 5 side travelled to Cockatoo and was up against the ladderleader and the home team probably thought it would win this game, but Cranbourne had other ideas. From the beginning skip Gary Farrington and his crew of Bill Sherriff, Joy McLisky and Harry Van Soest were determined to win the game and managed to get up by eight shots. Skip John Kent, supported by Sofio Raiti, Mardy Tankard and Rob Dickson, also did well - winning by five shots. Cranbourne 81 defeated Cockatoo 72.
