Fire burns tradie By Brendan Rees
Abdul Ahmadi cannot work work without his ute which was believed to have been deliberately lit. 176945 ed,” Mr Ahmadi said. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and Narre Warren Crime Investigation Unit is investigating. Detective Senior Constable Andrew Walker said it was believed accelerant was likely used. “Whether they’ve poured petrol over the items and they’ve set it alight or they’ve thrown something in it that was flammable, we haven’t
been able to work that out yet.” “Our crime scene officer’s will put a report together and we’ll be able to work it out,” he said. “The car wasn’t moved at all. It’s not like it was stolen and left burnt out like we normally see.” Detective Sen Const Walker said nothing appeared to be stolen.

“It looks like all the external front of the cabinet was undamaged. All the damage was kept to the rear of the ute and obviously some of the external panels were damaged as well.” He added there was no CCTV footage or witnesses who had come forward. Anyone with information on the fire should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Narre Warren CIU on 9705 3111.

A young tradie has been stripped of his livelihood after his work ute was allegedly torched in Cranbourne last Friday morning. Firefighters were called to Virginia Street at about 1am on the 19 January after reports of a car fire. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before it caused extensive damage to the rear of the vehicle. Devastated owner, Abdul Ahmadi, 22, believed his ute was set on fire deliberately, but did not know why. “I’m not sure what to say. I’m pretty disgusted. If someone had done it for fun, they should think about it twice how bad it’s affecting my life. I’ve got a little daughter who is 16 months old” he said. “I’ve have no arguments with people or the neighbours, everyone is nice. I’ve no idea who did it.” Without his ute, Mr Ahmadi says he is unable to work in which he runs his own tiling business. “It is very inconvenient. I’ve lost three or four days of work.“ “This has happened twice and we are thinking of leaving the neighbourhood,” he said. Mr Ahmadi said he picked up his ute on Tuesday 23 January after it was forensically examined by police. “Unfortunately they haven’t found anything as to who did it.” He said he may be up to $1500 out of pocket to replace all his work materials and equipment and a further $3000 to repair his ute. “I’ll probably take it to a mechanic and get an estimate as to how much it will cost me to repair it, do some paint jobs, change the window behind it and put in a new tub.” He said all his work tools and equipment were damaged including a wet and dry vacuum from the fire. “It’s bit of mess now. It’s disgusting. Everything is gone - I need to start again.“ You go to work, you pay your taxes and someone trashes your car. I’m really disgust-
