A plot for canny gardeners Have you ever thought about investing in a plot? A garden plot, that is!

Community gardens are flourishing in the city and suburbs where house blocks are small and there’s often no room for the traditional vegie garden out the back ... or the front!

While most households across the Yarra Valley and the Dandenong Ranges still have enough backyard to put in the odd garden bed and fruit tree or two, the increase in unit develop-

ment and dual-occupancy means that for some, the pleasure of growing and picking from your own garden bed is no longer feasible.

But space is not the only reason to buy into a community garden.

There are almost as many reasons for getting together with like-minded gardeners in a communal space, as there are weeds!

Community gardens increase a sense of community ownership and stewardship, bring people of different

backgrounds and ages together, and make fresh, seasonal herbs, vegetables and fruit available at a low cost.

Community gardening is a healthy, inexpensive activity for young, old and everyone in between allowing interaction between the generations in a socially meaningful and physically productive way.

They promote shared knowledge, encourage sustainable, chemical-free food production, reduce food miles and the vegies just taste a whole lot better.

Firing up for a warmer winter

By Derek Schlennstedt Fire. The word resonates with residents throughout the Yarra Ranges and can bring back memories of Black Saturday and Ash Wednesday.

Each year in spring, residents in fire-prone areas clean up their gardens and remove plants to reduce the risk of fire.

But, just because you may live in a fire risk location, does not mean you have to sacrifice a bright and welcoming garden.

The Ash Wednesday Bushfire Education Centre (AWBEC) in Cockatoo has constructed an interactive fire-wise garden to prove not all fire-wise plants are dull and boring.

“No plant is fireproof, and all will burn but some are more resistant to heat,” Graham Simpson, Chairperson at AWBEC, said.

The new fire-wise garden is designed to help educate the community on how to implement a fire-wise garden and re-

duce loads.

With pebbles offering much more resistance than flammable mulch and various small but bright plants, the fire-wise garden offers a perfect example of how to beautify and reduce fire risk around your property.

“It’s to pick plants that don’t readily ignite, what this firewise garden does is that it has signs with a QR code, which will take you to the CFA website which can tell you if your plants at home have a low or

moderate fire risk,” he said.

“These plants are all designed so they don’t touch each other, so the fire can’t jump to the next one.”

All the plants at the AWBEC fall into the low to moderate fire

risk range and many are native indigenous plants, which are perfect for attracting wildlife and bird life to your backyard.

Some of the plants include winter delight grevilleas, birthday candle banksias, bright and

colourful lily pillies, and succulent red kangaroo paw.

Graham said it was not difficult to create a firewise garden and that anyone could do it with plants readily available and reasonable priced.

Monbulk’s Mike Coen is travelling much lighter these days.

Much, much lighter.

After selling his house and all his belongings - “Yes, all of them” - he’s preparing to “start again” and “give back to the world”.

At the ripe age of 65, the hills local next month will fly out to Spain and undertake the historic pilgrimage, the El Camino de Santiago, all while aiming to raise $100,000 to help Nepalese orphans.

With only a backpack weighing 10 kilograms, no guides and no accommodation booked, Mike will walk over 900 kilometres from Saint Jean Pied de Port, in the south of France, over the Pyrenees mountains and across to the north of Spain.

He will make a stop at the famous Santiago de Compostella, before trekking on to the Atlantic coast and finishing at Finisterre.

Mike openly admits some have called his quest a little crazy, but says there is method to the ‘madness’.

“Life’s been pretty good to me.

I’ve had a really good corporate life. I’ve raised three kids in this fantastic community of Monbulk,” he said.

“But sometimes you’ve got to give back what you’ve taken out. In my heart, I know I’ve got to give back to this world.”

Mike said he had found others’ accounts of the pilgrimage particularly appealing.

“This is a walk where I can get away from the material things of the world and get back to basics.

I’m also hoping to discover what to do in the next phase of my life,” he said.

“I don’t want to hang up the boots, retire and waddle off into the sunset. I’ve got far too much energy for that.”

The ‘giving back’ part of the journey will take the form of helping Albury-based charity, Meg’s Children.

Through a friend, Mike discovered and learnt about the charity, which he said resonated with him immediately.

Started by nurse Trish Ryan, Meg’s Children was born largely from her own experience as a volunteer at a Nepalese orphanage.

Ms Ryan was not only taken aback at the plight of the children, but frustrated over the “corrupt management” and “exploitation” of the children.

From this experience, she started the orphanage, which takes in children, feeds and clothes them, and assists in getting them back into school.

Meg’s Children is entirely volunteer-operated, with 97 per cent of all funds going directly to funding their programs in Nepal.

“They’re just good Australian people who put together a charity and it’s helping disadvantaged kids, who couldn’t even dream of what we have,” Mike said.

“It resonated with me, because I’m not just about going to Nepal and handing over a bowl of rice ... and walking away and feeling good.

Which is why some of the most important people in children’s lives are their pre-school teachers.

Two of those people are Debbie Haberfield and Leonie Stow who, between them, have spent more than 40 years at Sassafras Preschool.

To recognise the occasion, a surprise party was held by the Parents Advisory Group (PAG) of Sassafras Preschool on Wednesday 19 July.

Children, parents and Yarra Ranges mayor Noel Cliff joined in the celebrations.

Zoe Wood, a member of PAG, thanked both for their dedication to the

preschool and the hundreds of children they have guided. “Between them, they have taught more than 500 children, and seen them through the most important and formative years of the lives,� she said. “No matter what the issue or idea a family, parent or child suggests, both Deb and Leonie take it in their stride, taking the time to listen and often offering words of wisdom to so many of us.�

The surprise party lived up to its name, as both Leonie and Debbie said that neither of them had any inkling of a party.

During the celebrations, Leonie and Debbie received plaques in recognition of their contribution to the community, and the children and families of Sassa-

fras Preschool.

Cr Cliff presented the plaques and commended the duo’s incredibly important work. “Leonie and Debbie, as well as other teachers, are virtually setting children up for life, they have an incredibly important job and it's amazing to see their dedication,� Cr Cliff said.

There is only one year between them, with Debbie starting in 1996 and Leonie coming to Sassafras Preschool in 1997.

Having spent two decades working together in an enclosed area with children, they often joke that it’s like being 'married’.

But both agree they wouldn’t want it any other way, and look forward to another 20 years.

By Derek Schlennstedt Clare Di Stefano, goalkeeper at Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club is one of four Monbulk soccer players who have been accepted to go to America as part of a soccer scholarship.

All four players received different soccer scholarships at different schools which include studying a course of their choice and playing soccer at college level.

Clare, who has been playing the sport since she was in Grade 5, will be playing for Sussex College in New Jersey and said she hopes to improve her soccer skills while there.

“I get to play at a really high level, get extra training and develop as a player and also study at the same time so it’s a great opportunity for me,” she said.

That extra training is twice as much as she already undertakes and at the same time she will be studying exercise science at Sussex College.

Clare said she is slightly daunted by the prospect of having to juggle both study and soccer but is excited for the opportunity to go overseas and play soccer where she said it is more recognised.

“They take college soccer very seriously so I’ll get extra goalkeeper training - they train a lot so it’s quite daunting about what I’m going to step into,” she said, “There’s a lot more opportunity for women’s soccer in America than

The 18-year-old left on 23 July to make it in time for pre-season which starts on 1 August.

While excited to be given the opportunity to go overseas and play soccer, Clare said she definitely aims to eventually come back and play once again for Monbulk.

“I love playing sport in general but soccer is a team sport and the best thing is you’re working for each other so you have to work hard for everybody else.“ “I really like it here in Monbulk everyone is so supportive - I’ll definitely come back after I’ve had the experience,” she said.

president, Lisa Doolan, said their players’ success was indicative of the strength of Monbulk’s 600-player membership base.

“We try to provide an environment where junior players are encouraged to enjoy the game and constantly improve their skills, and this shows in the senior levels where universities are quick to snap up some of our most talented players,” she said.

The Ash Wednesday Bushfire Education Centre in Cockatoo will be celebrating its first birthday on Sunday 30 July.

The centre is dedicated to remembering the devastating bushfires that swept through Cockatoo and Upper Beaconsfield.

Belgrave Heights, Belgrave South and other parts of Victoria and South Australia were affected by the fires on Wednesday 16 February 1983.

During this time, the community sought refuge within the former Cockatoo kindergarten.

In later years the building fell into disuse and was only saved by a lastminute protest as demolition crews began work in August 2011.

The site was redeveloped in 2015 into the Bushfire Education and Memorial Centre and has since been listed.

It is currently run by AWBEC volunteers.

Graham Simpson, who was CFA captain at Cockatoo during Ash Wednesday and is now the chairman of the AWBEC committee, said the centre aimed to educate people about

the impact of serious bushfires.

“The purpose is to be a museum to show people the destruction, the damage, the results and the recovery from a major bushfire.

“On Ash Wednesday, the fire went right through Cockatoo and the AWBEC building was a shelter for people.”

The centre offers educational insights into the impact of bushfires as well as an historical timeline of Ash Wednesday, including poignant photographs, an interactive touch screen and, most recently, an interactive firewise garden that educates people on what plants can be used to minimise fire risk.

Since its inception, more than 600 people have passed through the centre’s doors to learn about Australia’s long history of bushfires.

“It’s a part of Australia’s history,” Mr Simpson said.

To mark the one-year anniversary of its opening and acknowledge the contribution of volunteers, the committee will be holding a cake cutting, running colouring activities, and be holding an art exhibition for school children, with all pictures being displayed.

Ash Wednesday centre celebrates

Almost every resident in the Dandenong Ranges would have heard the subtle whistle of Puffing Billy as it choofs around the hills, a plume of smoke coming from its chimney.

That sound and that sight has been gracing the Dandenong Ranges for more than 100 years and Puffing Billy’s engine 6A turned 116 on 18 July.

The locomotive was one of the first Puffing Billy engines to be used when the line reopened as a tourist railway in the mid-1950s but it originally began work on 18 July 1901 and was used during the construction of the Colac to Beech Forest line.

The renowned green steam train is the oldest train the Puffing Billy line has and the engine has been restored as far as possible to its as-built condition, including early style side tanks, low level coal bunker and original size windows.

Puffing Billy workshop manager David Clowes said the train was probably in better condition now than it was all those years ago and that she’s still got a lot of years in front of her.

“She’s the oldest one we have and is really a collector’s item so we, of course, treat her like one.

“She’s probably running better than she used to,” he said.

Yarra Valley Water is urging residents in the Yarra Ranges to remain vigilant and not grant access to people claiming to be from Yarra Valley Water without the correct identification.

The notice comes as Yarra Valley Water has reported that it has received calls from members of the public regarding suspicious activity.

“People claiming to be from Yarra Valley Water, in a branded vehicle have been accessing properties claiming to be reading the gas meter or to be checking other utilities such as phone lines,” Steve Lennox, general manager, Retail Services said.

“While we do have water meter readers in the community, they have correct identification and can demonstrate that they are our employees.”

People who are concerned that someone is impersonating a member of Yarra Valley Water staff are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the police.

A 32-year-old Doveton man has been charged

by Emerald police after he was found dumping a truckload of rubbish at Bobs Park, Aura Vale Lake.

The man hired the tip truck for the purpose of disposing building site refuse and received an on-the-spot fine, and told to clean-up.

Dumping of rubbish is illegal and any information regarding illegal litter or rubbish dumping can be reported to the EPA hotline on 1300 372 842.

Need for a check-up From my

The importance of preventative health checks was brought home to me recently.

After a check-up with my doctor, I was advised to take a precautionary colonoscopy after a bowel test came back negative.

The doctor then delivered the news no-one wants to hear: I have bowel cancer.

Recently I underwent surgery to remove my tumour, which will be followed by chemotherapy treatment.

My prognosis is good - the doctors were able to remove the tumour, and are confident the cancer has not spread. So things are looking positive.

Others are perhaps not so lucky when receiving this news.

This diagnosis has given me an opportunity to raise awareness about the prevalence of bowel cancer, and the importance of bowel cancer screening tests that are freely available for residents over 50 years of age.

Bowel cancer is Australia’s second most common type of cancer.

In Australia, 80 people die from bowel cancer every week, and around one in 10 men and one in 15 women are diagnosed with the disease by the age of 85 every year.

When I think about these statis-

tics in the context of Yarra Ranges Council as an organisation, those numbers are alarming.

And if you look around the Yarra Ranges community, chances are we all know of someone who has been impacted by this terrible disease.

Bowel Cancer Australia says the bowel cancer screening test is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of dying from bowel cancer.

When identified early, 90 per cent of bowel cancer cases can be successfully treated.

The free bowel screening test could very well have saved my life - and it could save yours, too.

I urge anyone in the Yarra Ranges who is over 50 years old to make the most of the free bowel screening test.

And of course, regular check-ups at your doctor are also an important preventative measure for overall health. I have regularly practised annual health checks including blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate and other men’s health issues. It was while undergoing one of these checks that my GP recommended another test, which then alerted me to my current health issue.

Much, however, remains to be done by governments and consumers.

To prevent plastics from entering our oceans, the Victorian Government should join with other states to implement a statewide ban on lightweight shopping bags and introduce a 10-cent refund system on plastic bottles and cans.

Better sewerage

By Derek Schlennstedt Yarra Valley Water is planning to implement a modern sewerage service for the Monbulk area, as part of the community sewerage program.

About 160 properties in Monbulk town centre are connected to the Monbulk Sewage Treatment Plant, with many other properties instead managing their own wastewater via on-site treatment systems, such as septic tanks.

The program to provide better sewerage services comes after Yarra Ranges Shire Council’s Domestic Wastewater Management Plan identified that poorly performing septic systems were damaging the local environment.

Yarra Valley Water said that leaking septic tanks in the Monbulk area were discharging nutrients into the environment that were the equivalent of dumping over 1200 bags of fertiliser directly into waterways each year.

Chris Brace, general manager growth futures, said delivering new sewerage services to Monbulk was a challenge due to the area’s hilly nature and its distance from Melbourne’s existing sewerage network, but community feedback had been invaluable.

“Through regularly consulting with the community, we have been able to gather as much information as possible to find a solution which works for Monbulk,” Mr Brace said.

“During earlier small group consultations, the community said they would only like to see a couple of preferred options, instead of several which could be confusing.

“Considering this feedback, we are presenting two sewerage servic-

Of the two options, the first option involves Yarra Valley Water providing an upgraded septic system to properties that are not capable of containing wastewater on-site and new pipes in local streets will be built to collect any excess treated wastewater, which will be kept in the local area where it will be further treated and used for irrigation on local parks and reserves.

The second option is based on a pressure sewer system which involves building new pipes in local streets and connecting properties that are not capable of containing wastewater on-site to Melbourne’s metropolitan sewerage network.

Yarra Valley Water will be providing a sewerage service to about 80 per cent of the 836 properties, with septic tanks that they assessed through Land Capability Assessments, which consider a property’s size, available land area for irriga-

tion, slope, and closeness to local waterways.

Only properties that are incapable of containing their own wastewater on-site will be affected.

Yarra Valley Water will hold a consultation meeting at Monbulk Living and Learning Centre on 25 July from 5pm to 7pm.

Mike is set to leave Australia on Monday 21 August and he expects the journey to take more than two months to complete.

He admits he feels some trepidation about what lies ahead, but urged others to show their support.

School DJ a hit

Fallen leaves for fun Avid Mail reader Robyn Kuys was minding his grandchildren over the school holidays when he snapped this great image of two of his nine grandchildren, Paityn and Huntyr Kuys, who were having fun with the autumn leaves at Emerald Lake Park.

What a great way for children to pass the time on their holidays.

If the mark of a good DJ is that their events are packed with dancers, then Ian Cranage is among the best.

Particularly when talking about primary school students hitting the dance floor.

On Friday 21 July at St Paul’s Primary School in Monbulk, DJ Crano marked his 30th year DJ-ing for the school.

To celebrate the milestone, St Paul’s Primary School presented DJ Crano with a golden record in recognition of the many years of entertainment he brought to generations of students.

Mr Cranage spoke to the Mail as he was setting up for the disco at St Paul’s and said music had always been a big part of his life.

“I’ve been doing this for 54 years - I’m a big lover of Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and the Comets, and that era of music,” he said.

Although he said he enjoyed the early years of rock‘n’roll, Cranage has no trouble getting the kids involved and listens every week to the top 100.

“Well, I love seeing the involvement from the kids, watching them have a good time because when we were growing up there were no discoes at school,” he said.

“I still download the Aria chart on the Sunday morning so I can keep up with it all.

St Paul’s Primary School presented Crano with a golden record to recognise his 13th year DJ-ing at the school. 70859 “I’ve, basically, got every song that’s ever chartered in Australia, from right back in the ’50s.

“If asked, I can do a whole night on one particular year, I’ve got around 20,000 songs on CDs and a lot more on records.”

The 75-year-old Seaford DJ is part of the St Paul’s community and Principal Michael Watt said he was practically family.

Summer Wine’s a full glass of gags

By Derek Schlennstedt Uncorked at last, the 1812 Theatre will be unveiling its new play Last of the Summer Wine.

The stage production is based upon the classic and popular British BBC sitcom which ran for more than 30 years.

All the infamous characters are back with Nora, Compo, Clegg and Foggy getting up to their usual misadventures.

The stage adaptation, directed by Pip Le Blond from 1812 Theatre, tells the story of a trio of elderly gentlemen in West Yorkshire.

“These three guys live in this little town in Yorkshire, in a village, and they just get up to mischief every week, it’s always something ridiculous,”

Le Blond said.

Audiences are guaranteed an hilarious evening full of Monty Pythonesque humour with Cleg, Compo and Foggy delivering hilarious renditions with well-versed accents.

The production, which involves seven cast members, follows Compo Simmonite, Norman Clegg and Walter ‘Foggy’ Dewhurst as well as Nora Batty and her niece Constance.

Without giving away too many spoilers, the production involves a flasher, an evening of entertainment for the benefit of Nora’s niece, and, as usual, all of it descends into farce.

David Ayliffe a Dandenong Ranges resident who plays Foggy, said the biggest challenge was not learning two hours’

worth of lines, but having to remain unaffected by the humour, which often resulted in the actors laughing on stage.

“It is great fun and all the cast members have found that it’s not only learning the lines but there are parts so funny you have to get through laughing at them because you are on stage,” he said.

While there is a flasher in the play, Le Blond promises that audiences need not worry and invites all age groups to come for an entertaining night filled with laughter.

Last of the Summer Wine will play from 3-26 August in the Lowe Auditorium at 1812 Theatre in Ferntree Gully.

After forming through an appreciation of the same music in 2015, the trio has honed its musical skills through several Battle of the Bands in Melbourne and surrounds.

The band’s origins lie in humble beginnings in high school jamming sessions when Liam and Michael sought out their talented violinist Dylan to further their sound in a chance meeting in the Dandenong Ranges two years ago.

Away from Dylan’s studies at ‘jazz university’, the three found common enjoyment in writing and recording vocal harmonies, a dynamic which has held true to the present from their debut as a three-piece at the Belgrave Busker’s Festival in February 2015.

“He’s been coming twice a year for the past 30 years and he’s also come and DJed other school events, such as our country fair,” Mr Watt said.

“He’s really a fixture of the St Paul’s community.

“The golden record was just to say thank you and that we all at St Paul’s appreciate his dedication and everything he’s done for us over the years.”

As winter of 2017 thaws and the sounds of spring warm up, Sparks will be there to lift listeners into the summer and keep in a mood where they can reach out, dance along and make new friendships and hear timehonoured beats and melodies in a new way.

Dunkirk, a true-story war epic about the massive Allied withdrawal during World War II, is as bold, ambitious and oblique as any of director Christopher Nolan’s other works.

The film depicts the evacuation of the title beach from three interconnected perspectives: the evacuation of the soldiers themselves, taking place over the course of a week, a civilian yacht conscripted to aid in their rescue during one day, and a Royal Air Force pilot protecting the civilian fleet over one hour.

Dunkirk is a remarkable technical achievement with seamless effects and thrilling battle sequences.

While the Dunkirk beach is framed as a vast purgatory of near-constant suffering and set-backs, the film derives much of its suspense from more claustrophobic settings, such as sinking ships or crashed planes.

The film allows for heroic moments while never glamorising war, keeping the stress and desperation of the evacuation at the forefront.

Unfortunately, the film’s innovative structure is its biggest handicap.

The narratives dovetail together effectively in the climax but the transitions between them can be jarring, and the way time is extruded and compressed throughout the film makes it hard to tell what is happening at what point.

If events of heavy dramatic weight can be accomplished in a day or hour, the impact of the week-long struggle on the beach is diminished.

Dunkirk is a film of phenomenal parts in an impressive but frustrating whole.

In Division 1, the fight for the minor premiership is wide open with only four points separating the top four. In Division 2, it is really between Belgrave and Seville for the minor premiership, but a good backend to the season for Yarra Glen could see them challenging.

In Division 1 netball, Olinda are holding fast on top of the ladder with now Woori Yallock and Wandin fighting it out for second spot, but they are all safe in the top three. In Division 2 netball, Belgrave are undefeated and clearly on top of the ladder and favourites for the minor and major premierships.

Yarra Glen holds onto second spot with Yarra Junction and Yea fighting it out for third spot.

The lead at three-quarter time was 28 points and the game was in the bag. Healesville really kicked away in the last holding Mount Evelyn goalless while they piled on six for themselves.

in the second quarter kicking 5.4 to 2.5 and the lead had swung in Monbulk’s favour by 11 points at halftime. Both sides kicked four goals in the third term and the momentum was still in Monbulk’s favour.

Warburton staged a comeback in the last outscoring Monbulk by kicking 3.1 to 2.4, but the points finally went to Monbulk.

The third quarter was a battle of defences with Olinda only managing to kick one goal but they did hold Gembrook scoreless. The last quarter was freer flowing as Olinda kicked 4.6 to Gembrook’s 3.1 but the game was well and truly won.

Wandin had advantage of any wind in the third quarter and kicked 2.5 to 3.1 but could not convert when it was needed. Inaccuracy was the order of the day as Woori Yallock kicked 2.5 to 3.2 in the last but managed to hang on and come away with a celebrated win.

Alexandra kicked five straight in the second quarter while Thornton kicked 4.4 and could have had a real impact if they were accurate in front of goal. Alexandra stepped it up in the third term with six goals to three and their lead had blown out to 38 points at three-quarter time. The scoring seesawed in the last with seven goals being kicked but the honours went to Alexandra at the final siren.

Kinglake got the advantage in the first term and held a slim lead by five points at quarter-time. Powelltown regrouped and got their game going in the second quarter and kicked 4.2 to 1.5 to take the lead by 10 points at the main break. Kinglake played some good footy in the third term and if they were accurate in front of goal the margin could have been well and truly out of reach but they recaptured the lead by 16 points at three-quarter time. Powelltown had run out of steam by the last and could not find the gear they needed to put this one away. Both sides only kicked one goal but it was Kinglake in the end.

They started off in fine form kicking 5.2 to 1.1 in the first term and they looked like they were in for a big one. An eight goal second quarter and the writing was on the wall for Yea as Seville took a 68-point lead into half-time.

They came out and kicked another six goals in the third term and the lead was now 75 points. They certainly put their foot down in the last and held Yea goalless but kicked an impressive 12 goals to finish off the game.

The first quarter was an even tussle but Belgrave took a lead of 15 points into the second quarter. The second term was much of the same with Belgrave kicking 4.6 to 4.5 and the lead to Yarra Junction’s credit was only 16 points. It was a low scoring affair in the third quarter, Belgrave could only manage 2.3 to Junction’s 1.3 but they still had control of the game. The last quarter was a different story when Belgrave fired up and kicked 12.1 to 4.2 and the win was convincing at the final siren.

Monbulk juniors bring their best in hunt for finals MONBULK JUNIOR FOOTBALL Monbulk Junior Football Club held themselves in good stead on Sunday with some must-wins needed with the finals series fast approaching.

Many teams are beginning to bring their best to the field at the crucial time.

With only two rounds left in the home and away season, all the signs are looking good for the Monbulk Junior Football Club.

UNDER 9 The young players are coming and improving every week. They’re learning that being in front and running at the ball are the keys to playing footy.

UNDER 10 GOLD Although out-classed, the kids tried really hard. The tackling was great and chains of possession are improving every week.

By Jamie Strudley YARRA RANGES ATHLETICS Yarra Ranges Athletics competed at the Little Athletics Victoria Cross Country Championships on Saturday 22 July.

Set at the spectacular Cruden Farm in Langwarrin, the club's athletes excelled in the cold, windy conditions.

All athletes competed with traditional hard-but-fair attitude, with every athlete giving 100 per cent.

Performances were also boosted by the sensational support provided by all our supporters.

Medal-winning performances came from Kiara Flavel, Maddie Laven, Indigo Linde and Georgia Laven.

Georgia gets a special mention for winning her seventh consecutive LAVIC State Cross Country Championship title.
