Rocks in their head By Jolene Ogle RESIDENTS have been left shocked after vandals defaced the rocks at the popular Fairy Pools in Noosa National Park. Local Pat Isaacs wrote to Noosa Today sharing her outrage at the graffiti on the rocks that includes statements such as “skinny dipping allowed” plus other illegible words. “I’m absolutely outraged this has happened,” she said. “Is this what we want here and how do we stop it?” Ms Isaacs said the graffiti had been on the rocks for up to three weeks and has called on the community to stop any further damage to the rocks through vandalism. “It is heart-breaking to see the abominable way this pristine pool is being abused,” she said. Ms Isaacs also raised concerns over a growing trend of rock stacking at Tea Tree Bay, saying people shouldn’t disturb the natural landscape. “Many piles of precariously stacked rocks were evident (at Tea Tree Bay) and a child narrowly missed being injured when unstable rock towers tumbled,” she said. “The possibility of litigation cannot be ignored were such an injury to occur. The stacking also damages the rocks themselves. Last week two concerned locals removed the stacked rocks and returned them to their natural place. It will be interesting to see if the stacking occurs again.” Continued on page 2

Gentle title hat-trick

NOOSA Triathlon’s darling Ashleigh Gentle has claimed a hat-trick of Noosa titles, taking out her fourth win at the weekend to make it three in a row. The Rio Olympian soothed the sting of a disappointing Olympic campaign with her fourth Noosa title, while Dan Wilson, who was twice the bridesmaid in Noosa, finally added Australia’s most coveted title to his trophy cabinet. Wilson, who is based in Brisbane, said it meant a lot to finally snag the top spot. “To finally win, after not only being so close before, but also to join the honour roll of Noosa winners means a lot,” Wilson said. “Especially given I live just two hours down the road in Brisbane.” Gentle, who was 1.06 down after the 40km bike leg, joins Australian triathlon royalty Emma Frodeno (nee Snowsill), as the only Australian to claim four Noosa Tri titles. “At times in that race, I had to dig deep and think about what the Noosa title means,” Gentle said. Turn to pages 6 and 7 for all the Noosa Tri action from the weekend.
