dent Les Fraser said riders will be keen to get in a last carnival in South East Zone before the Queensland State Titles at Wandoan in the first weekend of September. He said teams for the carnival are expected from as far away as Tambo in the North and Cassilis to the South. Mr Fraser said based on previous years, the weekend is likely to attract more than 2000 spectators. Established in 1953, Warwick Polocrosse Club is thought to be one of the oldest if not the oldest club in Queensland and boasts one of the world’s premier polocrosse facilities. He said the club has seven fullyturfed polocrosse fields, one of which is floodlit for night games, undercover seating for 200 people, plenty of grandstands for outdoor viewing of the action, and impressive facilities for the horses, including undercover stalls, which is why the Warwick carnivals are so well attended. This unique sport originated in Australia in 1939 and is dubbed the “King of the One Horse Sports”. Polocrosse is currently played in 18 countries and boasts more than 10,000 players worldwide. The Saturday night program will feature live entertainment until late in the Clubhouse. During the weekend the Club House Cafe will be open for all meals. Bar facilities will be available. Admission is only $25 per weekend or $8 per night and entry is free for children under 16 years old. For more information, visit www. warwickpolox.com.au.

THE best polocrosse riders in Australia will be on display in Warwick this weekend as the club counts down to hosting the world’s best in 2019. Earmarked as hosts of the World Cup in three years, the Warwick Polocrosse Club this weekend will host the Australian Squad Series titles at Morgan Park. The Polocrosse Association of Australia selected Warwick Polocrosse Club to host the Australian Squad Series in conjunction with its annual IOR Rose Bowl Club Carnival. The series will comprise two men’s and two women’s teams chosen from the Australian squad. These squads are made up of “probables” for the World Cup which will also be at the Warwick ground. The 32 selected players have been drawn from all states in Australia and will arrive in Warwick to go head-tohead in their first match on Friday on the main field. Australian selectors will be in attendance to check the form as they look on. The four teams will battle over two nights and three days with the curtain-raiser being played under lights. The grand finals for the Australian Squad Series will be contested on Sunday. As part of the weekend extravaganza of polocrosse, approximately 75 club teams from Queensland and New South Wales are expected to compete in a separate competition the IOR Rose Bowl Championship Carnival.
